Quick pleasures for today:
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Hens doing well. Bigger son got up early to see them this morning.
3) Work passed - the worst day of the fortnight timetable today.
4) Went to see my school friend after work for a cup of tea.
5) Did some paperwork for various legal and boring things.
6) Checked bank account and (surprise!) no money has gone in since the CSA became Child Maintenance and everything became voluntary. :-/ So they will have to prise money off him, which is what I asked for in the first place...
No guesses who this one is!0 -

Good evening ....wrapped in a wooly shawl typing this , I've felt cold all day. Though it's been dry and sun was doing its best there was a cool wind.
Awoke early with a start, had a weird dream. Phone call to friend back home.
Potter, potter, tidy up here, tidy up there, I now have a clean cupboard under my sink and a tidy hall cupboard, have cleared a shelf for DS to put some stuff, we are getting him some new bedroom furniture so he needs to have a declutter.
Took 4 bags of stuff to Salvos. 2 were DD1's who has severe hoarding tendencies !
Pharmacy, veg shop for a turnip, bakers for loyalty card free bread and some RTC plants at the florist, where I was very kindly given a bunch of pink lilies for free! I always have a chat with the owner when I go in for my bunch of flowers each Friday ( my treat to me...because I'm worth it!) , anyway, she popped Her head round when I came in and came out with the flowers ...lovely and very kind.
Managed to get washing dry outside. A very soggy back garden after yesterdays heavy rain . Swept my back porch several times after naughty dog Haggis kept bringing branch after branch , twigs after twigs that had been blown off trees.
My tawny frogmouths were in the back garden tree ...watching me and definitely watching that dog! I've not seen them for a few weeks , thought they'd flown North for winter.
Emailed a friend a lengthy letter .
Made lentil soup for tea ( with free bread , lovely) and a very delicious upside down Apple cake.
I have a tidy bedroom and ensuite !
Think thats about all. Sparrer I hope you're okay? Frith I'm going with Barbara Chooky?
Have a lovely day0 -
1) A lovely fresh picking of asparagus from the garden bed for part of lunch today.
2) Rhubarb fresh from the allotment and cooked in the slow cooker with vanilla extract, it must be SUMMER!
3) Having a right old giggle this morning when He Who Knows asked me to go to the allotment to help fold up the weed suppressant plastic sheet, 30 metres by 5 metres in a stiff breeze, hilarious!!!
4) Lunch in the sun in the garden again, Oh YES!
5) The trees are in leaf all round the lanes and footpaths and it looks like it might be a Mast year from the amount of flower on the Beech Trees.0 -
5 Just done an egg custard tart for tea. Topped with mature cheddar and spinach. Rubs Tum. Spare off cut pastry was churned into two jam tarts, already eaten, and mince pies. Rubs Tum.
4 Still no news from the coast. Argh. Nor from double destination place either! Argh.
3 Raffles is reducing the populace of vermin again. one last evening, and two this morning. It is the season. He probably frequents the newt pond. Please remember the newts are protected!
2 Night we may get the Captains Mistrees out again. Itis a strategy game on balls and quick.
Your request is being denied!0 -
Sorry to have been MIA just trying to work into this new routine, nice to see both old posters posting again, and new.
1. I’m MIA because while doing the new job, I am also doing some proper training but on my own time for proper qualifications it’s great getting the brain matter working but hard when I realised I’m now outdated effectively and having to re learn completely new ways and technologies. I am juggling 3 courses at the moment and have my eye on a long p/t qualification as well, I am going to research it a little tonight.
2. A lot of vouchers and offers have been acquired through both work and right place.
3. A lot of food planning, about another week or 2 living from the freezer should make a bit of space.
4. I have been ordering online for DH’s birthday the last of it arrived today, I just need to pick up a cake at the weekend, I know it’s not baking it, I will bake him some millionaires bread through.
5. Loving watching the garden get colourful, the days get longer.
6. Tonight is pasta bake, and while that’s cooking I prepared tomorrows stew0 -
Quick pleasures for tonight as am tired.
1) Poor sleep so glad to get up!
2) A nice drive in to work this morning (it is the most ridiculously scenic route in every day, but I don't always notice).
3) 45 minutes on the phone to Legal Aid, Land Charges, Legal Aid again. Terrifying. I couldn't have told you if I owed £2.50, £250 or £25,000. When the divorce paperwork was done finally (2006), I was beyond caring. Anyway, spent most of the calls speaking to a lovely man who was almost my cheerleader by the end! His supervisor was checking and possibly half the office. Turns out, some of it I didn't have to pay for, most had been paid for by my remortgaging the house to do so and they had waived a "forgotten" £100! Such a relief that I did a little dance afterwards! Now just got to get back to original and not great solicitor to get some house deeds stuff re-worded...
4) Went to see the hens (bigger son now loves them more than anything in the world). Tonight they have had normal food and he also tried them with grapes, tomatoes, raisins, cous cous and peppers. They eat right out of his hand now. :-) He wants to get a metal green house frame to make them a run extension so he can sit inside with them more easily.
5) Had pulled pork for tea plus made cous cous salad (hence the hens' scraps). Smaller son made some cookies later.
6) In bed with 1hwb. Stove was lit this evening but think that'll end soon. Might watch Holby just now.
ETA
7) Smaller son went on a school trip to Birmingham City University today.
8) Smaller son and I getting muddled up as neither of us knew the word "sift" (he was cooking). I got close with "strain... sieve..." and as he always calls a sieve a "fizz", he couldn't help!0 -
Hi everyone, I now find myself taking much more notice of little day to day pleasures and feeling grateful for them. Today's included;
The sun was shining and my rural drive to work was beautiful.
Leftover jambalaya and salad for lunch - really tasty and much nicer than a sandwich.
Was able to cheer up an exam stressed DS
Had a bowl of HM popcorn whilst watching missed episodes of Marcella
Turning off 5.30 alarm and replacing it with 7.00 one - later start at work tomorrow. Yippee!Original mortgage £112,000 . Final payment due August 2027.
Mortgage neutral achieved August 2020 - 7 years early!!!0 -
Yesterday's pleasures:
1. Saw a pair of buzzards circling the canal along the river valley. Watched them for ages standing in the sunshine.
2. The sunshine!! It was such a glorious day.
3. A fascinating talk about 'The Real Robyne Hood' at my history group last night. Lots to speculate about there.
4. Watching out small Border terrier playing chase with an enormous husky on the football field.
5. Eating our own produce in tonight's salad, three different sorts of lettuce, really crisp spring onions and peppery Japanese greens.0 -
Day 3 off. It's been a bright but cool and very windy day, perfect for getting lots of washing dried.
I now have a tidy cutlery drawer , a sparkling laundry room and the bottom of my pantry cupboard is very tidy, I have far too many 'bags for life ' , have recycled an overspill of tub lids, sent a bag of foody magazines over to salvos, have another pile for colleague and have a big bag for hospital next week. One of my customers brings me mags in and then I bring home the older ones from magazine rack at work to take in to the waiting rooms. Not sure why I was hanging on to 2 irons that obviously weren't working which is why I bought new ones....they've now gone.
Had some tuna pasta for lunch and making lasagne for tea. It was in the freezer from last week but just needed a top layer of sauce added ( had ran out when I made it)
I've traveled as far as the physio round the corner to pay for DD2's Pilates and the local shop for corn flour and milk. Other than that it's been a quiet day spent in the comfort of my ugg boots! Aaah! Forgot how comfy they were!
My roses are having a late autumn bloom , dahlias look stunning and my pansies are perfect!
Have a lovely day0
