Happy Easter! Would stay longer but desperately loading germinators...

Chatting with car park bloke, seeing how railway bridge arch lined with cork for storing bananas & two overriding thoughts - solid brick: glad I'm not a hod carrier! & with an eye on some new flats built "we are a fallen race". Suspect we may be doing today's architects etc an injustice but the vivid ingenuity is if not lost, concealed.

Seen two magpies! Not wildly superstitious, just prefer them in pairs.

Huge car boot win. Christmas chinaware sorted, and it's my beloved Denby!

Godfather's expression on being given a new seriously nonstick frying pan & appropriate tools. Bless the man - he also teaches my lads to cook, least we can do is give him 21st century kit!

Son trying to 'get' the difference between Internet by wifi & internet by phone signal & giving me a Very confused look. Last I saw it, I'd explained water was made of two gasses...

"A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools."
    Plus
"It is a well known fact that those people who most want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it. To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job."
Ah, Douglas Adams. A realist & under appreciated prophet...

There is a certain pleasure in wrapping parcels, thinking of happy faces. (Also my eBay earnings are my mad money, money I can spend any way I choose & feel no requirement to account for.)

Youngest spotted in his early morning state - almost fully dressed in uniform but with bare feet, the tie under the bedside table & the child restfully gathering energies under a throw....

Cracking conference - new names & faces learned, old acquaintance re-established & oh my the food! Eschewing at Easter is not easy but I've only two pairs of cooperative trousers.

Splendid time in the garden (even if one pair of trous might disagree) with a plum tree planted, rhubarb repotted, poundshop blueberries potted to have a go, a friends loganberry (described as delicious, hyperactive & only-to-be-harvested-by-those-who've-annoyed-you it's *that* prickly) & now to defrost freezer [hah! victor ludorum!] before settling down to load germinators with seeds.

On the "windowsill of doom" (my ever optimistic non-gardening menfolk), a full dozen cuttings of assorted hedging! To be repotted & relocated so germinators have a chance.

Easter surprise for sons - their choice of stuffed pasta washed down by their choice of gruesome fizzy drink. Happy cooperation abounding.

Easter rain bouncing off flagstones - glad all my plants needed watering in! Also lid off bin so harvesting rainwater for seeds.

I am being upbraided for making more fuss over a (delightful) book on grammar than I do over crates of Denby.

Bullfinch singing in a tree sounds melodious but territorial!

Father Brown - both on TV & kindle. (Old friend's father has kindle but lacked the *essentials* of vintage crime - now rectified! In 'return', introduced to Andrey Kurkov & the penguin! Shall not wonder what our kindle tastes say about us as my assortment of corpses cannot reflect on me with any credit...)

Not been giving Night Inspector my proper attention, in part as past bedtime, in part just lax. However, overhearing Laurie as an Englishman & Bad Guy (Dear Americans, why *must* Bad Guys be English? May we renegotiate this bit of the Special Relationship?) then reading of Young Hiddlesbum, I will now try harder.

Church bells calling all to Easter, as I hefted laundry over lines. (Then repeated parts of the service hauling towels etc back off once the rain started. Of course, Drier has packed up, Again.)

May the Easter be happy & the weather sit lightly upon you!

I can't imagine why I am stuck on the sofa with a headache! It'll be unconnected to what I have eaten today...

    Pleasures for today (Easter Sunday).

    1) A lie in! Or was it, with the clocks going back?

    2) Easter egg hunt for sons.

    3) Went to parents for a cup of tea. Mum more mobile now - a month since bowel resection.

    4) No proper cooking for today. Just sandwiches and wraps to pick at. And lots of chocolate.

    5) Drove to nearest field with goalposts to watch sons playing football from the comfort of my car. Bigger son found some metal in a skip that was useful later in the day...

6)...bigger son worked hard to nearly finish the hen run. :-)

    7) Have been making a start on the list of 22 jobs I had written out to do whilst sons are away (they go to their father's tomorrow). One of the jobs was to check my credit score and naughty Halifax (who paid me £80 or so in apology for messing up the closing of my a/c) HAVE NOT sorted out my credit rating. So I shall be back there during the week to complain. Also found bigger son's school summer uniform in the airing cupboard to wash (not as posh as it sounds - just blue polo shirts with the logo).

All getting very excited about going on holiday when sons are back! Have ordered train and other tickets.

ETA - nearly fell over laughing earlier. I was sitting next to smaller son when he had gone to bed and he was showing me his iphone. He said, "Siri, show me pictures of local motor racing circuit" (starts with S) and Siri said, "Showing you pictures of seduction". Smaller son said, "No, Siri, stop!" then "I'm going to throw this phone away, get out Siri, no more Siri tonight!!"

Spent a lovely morning spring cleaning and knowing I didn't have to go out in the wind and rain!!

Lots of de cluttering done, lots given on freegle.

Re arranged upstairs, and it looks and feels lovely and fresh and revamped.

Found a memory box whilst cleaning, lots of nice memories to think about.

Sitting having a cuppa with the cat nearby after having a lovely hot bath.

Not very money saving so to speak but I bought a half price hotel chocolate egg. I have wanted one for years, and tonight I bought one.

I made some cupcakes, not from a recipe, just what I found in the cupboard. Standard fairy cake sugar eggs lour butter etc. But I added a teaspoon of ground ginger and one of cinnamon. I grated zest of lemon and orange and also chopped up some pumpkin seeds and added them. The pumpkin seeds were really nice in the cakes, I will do that again. I finished them off with icing sugar mixed with lemon and orange juice, tangy but lovely.

Just had one now with my cuppa. Lovely :D

    1. Methodically changed all the clocks last night then discovered one was an hour fast this morning - I wasn't to know the new boiler thermostat did it automatically!
    2. Went out for the first time in a week, it felt good to breathe fresh air and to speak to other human beans
    3. New SW eating plan not going too well but I enjoyed the hot x buns :). Spent extra time on the tm to try to burn off the extra cals
    4. The rainbows, there were five throughout the day
    5. I turned the heating off today which meant I didn't need to tuck the curtains behind the radiators, and I didn't need to turn the lights on until almost 7pm. At last, I think I can safely say Winter is over :T

    Sweet dreams :)

    1. Chocolate :)

    2. Still pinching myself that the first school I interviewed at this week for a new job have offered me the role :) They have chickens!! Small classes! Polite children (well the ones I taught for my interview were :) )! A shorter drive along v. rural roads, which will be gorgeous in the summer! (I'll worry about going 2 miles uphill on a single track road on an icy morning when the time comes....)

    3. I've started a major decluttering task in my study - it was cathartic to put lesson observations from my horrible PGCE placements in the recycling bin! I have the lessons saved electronically, I don't need to see the horrible, unhelpful handwritten comments ever again :)

    4. Still enjoying cooking for everyone :)

    5. DD and I had a girly shopping trip on Saturday, I bought her some much-needed leggings and jeggings - she bought me some sunglasses!

    6. Fresh, clean, lovely bedding on my bed - hopefully it'll help me sleep better than I have been recently...

    Evening all!
Work is done for one whole day ! So, so busy today....just stay at home and eat weetabix folks.

Bit chilly this morning, jumper and a gilet...Yep, that cold!

OH met a friend over from UK and was just leaving and bumped into other friends in Melbourne for weekend from Tasmania and Queensland...totally coincidentally .

DD2's creme egg...I may have eaten it. It was even tastier !

    Jammies on

An evening of UK telly watching, Casualty, Night Manager and Thirteen

    Time for bed.

Ooooh Vicky I've just joined the CCC, there's a Melbourne branch!

    Have a lovely day
  • I have had enough chocolate! Thanks.

5 Raffles is a bit upset, poor kitty, taken two days to dislodge a fur ball. Lovely. Furred like his keeper! He is now sat in a monk licking his paws!

4 Popped to the inn last night, drank responsibility, got home, watched Liz on telly! Poor Charlie still in the shadows! Wearing blue, yet forgetting the kites he managed to wreck and his loss of licence! Hic, Bottoms up!

3 PM2DDE, the race is on, UTM are in line for some catch up today!

2 Day for tea, will be pancake fest! BoP will be flipping tossing! Just seen an advert for some upstart kind of unreal programme, where some none entity says they are facing starvation. No you are not! You are not even close. Avoid! Don't know what it is called as I do watch goldfish bowl instead, you get a difference every time you look!

DfV Cannot comment on your assessment of designs, but we call it Humaine Fracas!

    For Yesterday:
    1. Up early and off out to a local steam gala, pre-paid member tickets saved us £12 total on the entrance.:money:
    2. I prepared and took a frozen bottle of coconut water and a couple of drinks with some hot x buns to save a few pennies.:money:
    3. We were shattered when we got back so napped.:o
    4. I made a shepherd’s pie that was really lovely.:p
    For today:
    1. A loungy lazy day, brunch was cooking bacon sarnie.
    2. I moved all the seeds out to a water tray in the green house as they all appear to be going wrong in the house.
    3. I forgot to food plan for today so leftover ham and sausage will become pasta bake.
    4. It’s rather like everyone was against the taking it easy today:(, while not very relaxing ignored it all.
    5. Used up fruit by putting it in the blender and calling it a smoothie.:rotfl:it's got to be part of the 5 a day surely...
