Well done Mr Lahey en famile! I am particularly impressed with your daughter... I have a absolute spider phobia so can't even contemplating holding one of the little blighters... infact I feel a little shakey at the mere thought!!
    Man plans and God laughs...
Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

I'm a bit tired tonight. Got a very snotty phone call from my brother this morning saying I was late (?) Apparently, he had arranged to take my younger son out with him for the day. I KNOW this isn't quite right as younger son just wouldn't go without me or his brother and if I HAD discussed this with my brother, I would have written down the pick up and drop off time and asked if little son would have needed sandwiches etc!

Anyway, I said all this in the phone call and my brother said it was now too late and he was going. So I said OK and we would do something else today and I started to plan... 30 minutes later, my brother turns up on my doorstep saying he was here now and was smaller son ready to go!? Aaarrghgh! Smaller son said he wasn't going to go (quelle surprise) which led to swishing out and door banging from brother. All this by 9.30am.

I spoke to my brother on the phone this evening and decided not to mention the morning at all but was wittering on about life in general then said I was making provisions for smaller son to go to Beavers and how bigger son would have to go with him a few times and I will tell the leaders about his selective mutism. Then the phone went dead. I'm hoping it was a bad connection but I phoned back and there was no answer... Sometimes I think my family imagines that smaller son behaves this way for a laugh!

Anyway, the drama this morning led us to swiftly think of something to do today so here is my 5:

    1) Jumped in the car and did a day of castles! Drove past Hereford Market where brother and my dad were spending the day (and allegedly where smaller son was supposed to be going) and gave a mental "tutt"! We first went to Goodrich and particularly enjoyed the Easter rabbit hunt and both boys got some chocolate for finding all the clues. The also liked the cannon (Roaring Meg). Bigger son did astonishingly well with the map reading to get us there in the first place.

    2) Left Goodrich and went to Raglan, much excitement at passing the Wales sign as always. (Not that its far from here!) Had lunch there than castled. This time they liked the moat (and the goldfish), bought some tin soldiers that they played with and there was a resident cat.

    3) Stopped in Hereford on the way home to look at the cathedral (my favourite building in the world). Also popped into Primark for boys' new pants and socks.

    4) Stopped again for sweet and sour from a Chinese (easy to eat in the car).

    5) Got home and found anxious sounding answering machine message from NPower. I sent them a rather strongly worded letter yesterday after they helped themselves to £1200 from my account last week in error and it seems they are in a hurry to talk to me!

    6) Oh yes, in the car we got to talking about Beavers and after a great deal of negotiation, smaller son said he would try it again! Bigger son is going to go with him and I have to tell the couple who run it that he doesn't want to speak to them. (I think I'll phrase it better than that!) We did try Beavers once before and I didn't say anything about little son's funny ways. The lady Beaver leader is lovely, very motherly but very.... loud. She chatted non-stop to little son, fired questions at him, more questions when he didn't reply to the first lot, tried to manhandle him into the hall at which point he started running and had cleared a nearby field before I caught up with him!

Well, this is an epic post so I'll stop now.

Good about your olives, puss14. Mine is only 40" high and produced some very tiny fruit last year, nothing like mature enough for picking. Another 10 years and I'll catch up, perhaps...
Poor you Bella, get better soon. Which Henley did you go to? I was brought up in HoT and DM still lives there,(though I've a feeling I've mentioned it before:o) Oh, just looked up Henley ice cream and realise it's HiA. :)
Sounds like you had a great weekend house elf, you certainly packed a lot in
molliethewestie well done on staying positive AND doing the laundry! ;)
emilyka 'Will take in one of my old suits tonight so it fits me'..aghhh, I'm jealous! :D
Megs mum great decision to get a camper, they're ideal for just going aroving when the mood takes you
newlywed you've got more skills than any man, just remind yourself of that from time to rime and you'll feel much more confident ;)
lol wsla00, keep us informed of the goings on, sounds all very dramatic!
niksyg well done to Bodie handling a 35 minute separation, what a good little pup he is :)
Good news about the 2lb loss Blimus, and I know what you mean about crossing jobs off, except I seldom reach the bottom of my lists :o
Are you in the Stevenage area Ladyhawk? If so we're very nearly neighbours . Many congrats of the marks for your presentation
Parsnip biriani doesn't sound too inspiring CCP, hope you managed to find something a bit more exciting. Love parsnips but there is a limit, lol
Mr Lahey what wonderful news! But like Ladyhawk I have a dread of eight legged things, can't even bring myself to type the name! Well done, all of you :T
Sounds like you had a fun time at Cabot Circus GirlySquare, it sounds like an amazing place with loads going on
Caterina I have a feeling you're going to exhaust us by relating all of your 'retirement' activities as much as, if not more than, when you were at work!
Was it the peony on one of the freebie boards Tealady? I ordered one too, hope it's as good as it sounds but perhaps your mum and dad have greener fingers than me :o
ACEY so sorry to hear about the ruck your brother caused, hope it didn't disturb your DS too much. Good for him for wanting to try Beavers again :D
nuttybabe so pleased the chores got done without you asking. Great news about your DS, it's scary how quickly they learn things and grow up but at the same time lovely to see their achievements :)
katholicos another River Cottage fan here, his life seems so idyllic (even if there's a whole team working behind the scenes) it's nice to see the OS way of doing things

    1. The local hardware emporium giving me some advice and having exactly the right thing I wanted for pennies and saving me having to call a plumber
    2. Visited DD and the DGK's, seldom catch them all together so it was a bonus
    3. Stopped at the farm shop on the way home and got 3 big bags of potting compost which were on offer for £9 :D
    4. At the same time got 3 bunches of double daffys for £1 :T
    5. Out with friends in the fellowship this evening, always a cheap evening and lots of fun

    Night night (((everybody))) sweet dreams

Wow, well done Mr Lahey and family, sounds like a very well-deserved win :)

Bargains at B00ts - 2 huge photo albums for £4.25 as they were on clearance (original price £20 each!!) and they were on BOGOF! I am planning on getting lots of photos of DD printed off as I've been useless in the past with making up a record of our lovely life together.

Scrummy cake at a colleague's baby shower, chosen by me :)

I was feeling all fat, frumpy and grouchy during a horrible day at work and a friend who'd not seen me other than at my desk in ages saw me walk up to her and said how slim and gorgeous I look now :) Bless her, I've not lost a pound since the start of the year, but have to remember that I am over 5 stone lighter than I was this time last year, so I am good really!

Had a nice call with a colleague in America who was having the same kind of morning as me and we had a good vent to each other and both came away feeling better, lol.

Went to a lovely friend's house for a great evening last night helping her celebrate her birthday with lots of other nice people - ate and drank far too much and am suffering this morning!

    Hi all,

Been keeping an eye on this thread for a wee while, nice to see how positive everyone is even when the chips are down! Really great thread this me thinks.

Figured I'd have a go so here are my 5 for yesterday:

    1. Really enjoyed my work day, I project manage so everything is always changing activity wise, and yesterday it was all quite fun and satisfying!

    2. Mom bought some mags for us both (and Dad if he so chooses!) which I've found some interesting articles in to research.

    3. Someone lent me some CDs so I don't have to go out and buy them to put them on my iPod. Must remember to give them back though!

    4. Had a great personal planning day yesterday, feel all sorted and ready to achieve things.

    5. Phone calls and texts from my lovely boyfriend telling me that he missed seeing me yesterday (after spending the entire bank hols together, I thought that was very sweet). Reminded me that I'm lucky to have him after all the wallies I spent my time with before I met him!:smileyhea

And here's one to kick off today:

    1. It's sunny!
    2.... TBC

Hope ya'll are having a great day

Can someone please inspire me as to what this thread is all about? I'm looking for cheap/NS treats so I don't go and buy a new bike basket today...I was thinking like something for the bath (works very well...my bath budget is minute) but maybe just a cycle ride to Asda will do the trick? Just don't want to spend but feel the need to....any ideas????

Am already on the FL board (though don't think I'll make the 4k this year...)...

    Thanks

Gee you guys are great responding to everyone personally, I dont think I can manage that atm or I will be overwhelmed and end up not posting. Ok now to answer some questions:
    1. I live in Melbourne, Australia and I had the olive tree for years, not doing too well in a pot. Then when my girl Taradog passed away my Oh and I planted the tree over her grave and it has flourished. This is the first year tho that I have picked the fruit and they are huge olives, it's quite amazing.
    2. My degree is about gaining a better understanding of Indigenous world views by exploring past and present histories in a culturally diverse and supportive environment.
This degree increases awareness of Aboriginal and other Indigenous peoples' histories, ways of living, and social commitments while raising understanding between people of all matters relevant for a shared and valued future. (blurb from my uni)
Basically I have always been interested in Indigenous issues and have seen some appalling displays of racism in this country as well as being told things by my mum and aunty. I find it unbelievable when people say that there is no longer racism in this country towards Indigenous Australians, it is so firmly entrenched within our society. My aunty told me when she was working in Tennant Creek in a hotel in the 70s (in the Northern Territory, central Australia) an older Aboriginal man had tears in his eyes after she served him in the bottle shop and when she asked him if he was ok, he replied "You are the first person at this pub to give me correct change " It is so appalling and when I was living in the Northern territory in the 90s it wasn't much better tbh, people would take any opportunity to rip them off. Anyway sorry for going off track, it just makes me very mad:mad:

    5 pleasures today
    1. My Oh coming home from volunteering with an Easter egg a lady had given him as a thank you and then him giving it to me:)
    2. My dogs always making me laugh and my naughty old cat with her feisty spirit.
    3. Waking up and thinking Im not looking too bad lol (rose tinted glasses:rotfl:)
    4. Lovely chicken sandwich from leftovers last night, for lunch.
    5. This site it always brightens me up esp the OStylers:T

    Welcome, Shadowsfall!

And :j:j:jref Mr Lahey and family - fantastic news!!! Well done.

    My 5 for yesterday:

    1. New season NCIS on TV - love that show. Following by Law and Order: Criminal Intent.

    2. Absolutely delicious (though I say it myself) homemade curry for tea.

    3. Staying chilled whilst retuning my Freeview box - took about 6 goes before I got all the channels - for some reason it just didn't work the first few times. Normally I get ratty about that sort of thing, but not yesterday.

    4. Staying chilled at work even though things aren't great - we have very little work on hand right now. Still, it will soon be water under the bridge, as per my signature!

    5. No news ref Penny and Gizmo - maybe they're settling in OK now. Although I would have them back straight away if need be.
Life is not a dress rehearsal.
