5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Good afternoon all.
Please excuse me if I seem a little confused this afternoon - I've just got home from work and found a chunk of what looks like plastic plant caught in my hair. What is it? Where did it come from? How did it get into my hair? I can't begin to imagine!
niksyg - I'm glad you had a nice few days away and your OH is feeling better (the time away helped, I'm guessing)
nuttybabe - I'm glad you're having a nice time at your new caravan site.
Caterina - WTG! :T:jIt must feel really good to have that lot sorted out, finished and done with.
Megs mum and Blimus - I'm glad you both had nice weekends. I hope you get your campervan, Megs mum.
My five for today:
1) I finally sorted out the theatre tickets after a weekend of fighting with the theatre's recalcitrant online booking service. Buying the tickets wasn't a great pleasure - they're flamin' expensive for a local theatre - but it's nice to a) get it sorted, and b) find out that it was the website that was faulty and not my credit card.
2) A little sweetshop opposite the theatre that sells lovely but very expensive HM sweeties is closing down, so I got two bags of their delicious fudge for less than they used to charge for one bag. It rather sadly occurred to me, though, that they might not have had to close down if they'd sold their sweets at a more reasonable price in the first place.
3) Wore my new, bargain earrings to work today, and kept sneaking admiring glances at them in the mirror every time I went to the ladies'. Sad, I know.
4) My aster seeds have started to sprout.
5) It's my favourite tuna and pesto pasta bake for tea tonight, followed by some of the pear cake (if I can get it cooked this time).
Have a nice evening, everyone.Back after a very long break!0 -
LOL at the plastic plant, CCP! I don't have hair long enough to get anything caught in it!
Well, I'm pooped so thought I'd write early, trying to eliminate my naughty staying up late excuses. I never get to bed before midnight, I just pootle about doing little bits and playing on the laptop.
Anyway, 5 for today.
1) Boys have played reasonably well together with occasional arguments which bring on bigger son's sing song voice... "Muu-uuuum! Te-eeeelll hi-iiiiiiiiim" etc.
2) Dashed off 2 letters this morning - one to the CSA as I haven't had any payments since October and one to NPower as they took £1200 out of my account on Thursday and I haven't been a customer with them for 8 months! Glad to get those sent off recorded delivery (or special delivery or whatever you call it).
3) Went to mum and dad's so dad could drive my car about. There is still something not right about the steering but of course dad said it was fine and (I quote) "Nowhere near as wandery about as the pickup".... Hmmm. Mum had made us a simnel cake (the disciples didn't last long!) and gave us a dozen eggs. Also went up the wood there with the boys in attempt 2 of trying to wear them out.
4) Went swimming with the boys and my brother later. There is no lifeguard or staff since it is a school pool (and its the holidays so even more deserted than normal). The pool man had left a hosepipe running, topping the pool up and I'm slightly ashamed to say we didn't leave it neatly looped and trickling into the pool, we made rainbows with it (very sunny) and sons and brother took it in turns to squirt each other, both whilst in the water and occasionally whilst on the side! Blimey, it was cold! We were in there well over an hour.
5) Had a very cheaty tea of veggieburgers in buns whilst watching Top Gear. Am going to see to the boys getting ready for bed now and we will all sit in a row in my bed watching Holby City on the laptop.

Hi Folks,
Not a good day here I'm afraid.
1. Dentist at 10.20.
2. On the way stumbled over uneven pavement and pulled a muscle in my leg, the same one I pulled two week's ago and and now in agony.
3. £27.50 to pay dentist today and a follow up appoinment which will cost £85:eek:
4. Because of my injuries I have not been able to get my seeds sown as planned.
Now lets look on the bright side.
1. DH was a home so I was able to phone him to run me to the dentist and bring me home.
2. Painkillers - at least they're helping a bit.
3. Painkillers - they wiped me out for two hours this afternoon and I had a lovely sleep.
4. Reading all your positive thought on here whilst waiting for the clouds to roll by.
5. I can still walk.
Bella.A man's life consisteth not in the abundance of things which he possesseth. Luke 12 v 150 -
Hugs BELLA, you have had a gruesome day, hope the painkillers (and ice packs, elevation of leg etc etc, the usual) help very soon for you x0
-
Evening,
Bella - You sound like you've had a rotten day, hope your leg is feeling better soon
Acey - Hope you get the Npower issue sorted quickly, that is disgusting of them
CCP - I always find regional theatre tickets cost more than West End tickets, they don't seem to do the same deals as you can get for London. Hope you enjoy your show though.
Niksyg - Glad you had a good weekend with your mum and OH is feeling better
Mollythewestie - Your risotto sounds yummy
Caterina - Big cheers for you having finished your last day at work.:j:j:j:j
Megs Mum - Good luck with the campervan shopping
Blimus - Glad you had a lovely visit with your mum. I love catching up with my parents as I only see them every couple of months
Mine for today:
1. NSD as another manic day at work so didn't get away from my desk
2. Catching up with my niece on the phone as we missed each other at the weekend. She arrived in the North as I was leaving.
3. Very OS dinner, using left overs from the last two nights to make dinner for OH and me. He had the left over lamb and I had some chicken, just added some extra veg and a yorkshire pudding.
4. Three lots of washing line dried today
5. Phoning the train company I travelled with last week and they are going to refund my tickets.
Hugs to all who need them especially Bella. Ollie hope you are OK and back with us soon as miss your lovely posts0 -
Evening all -
Thanks for the advice... I'll send the soon to be ex cleaner a text this evening asking for her to come round one evening this week. I am used to sacking people with work so I don't really get too worked up about it. I had a chat to a colleague who also uses the same lady this afternoon and she is also having problems...
Work has been really busy again... got so much to try to get through...
So.. my 5 pleasures for today are...
1) my furbabes being so happy to see me this evening. Ok they probably wanted supper but that's not the point!
2) a colleague brought in loads of sweets for us (his brother runs a sweet shop) so I spent the day eating apple bon bons and pear drops... YUM!
3) Arranging a leaving lunch for my boss.. she goes on maternity leave on Friday. We haven't always got on, but she is a really kind person and I know that she didn't feel comfortable arranging her own leaving lunch and was a little sad that no-one had done it for her.
4) CBA dinner... beef stew from the freezer with fresh broccoli from the garden.
5) Having a brief chat with Kiwiboy on my way home from work... he sounded pleased to hear that I am back in the country...
Have a great evening everyone.
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
ACEY omg have you got in touch with your bank and told them to credit the direct debit payment immediately? If I recall correctly, your bank has to do this as NPower debited an amount without giving you notice which is against the terms of the direct debit agreement. Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
alisong welcome back! Well done to you and yours, what a lovely, relaxing day
bellaquidsin whilst reading your yesterday post I had a sudden flashback to my childhood. Sorry to hear you've been in the wars today, hoping you feel better soon
BlimusOreilly glad you've had a lovely few days with your mum
Caterina congratulations on 'putting a line under' your old job
CCP well done for getting so much done yesterday, despite the world. And for all you achieved today despite the attack of the plastic plant
katholicos well done on your gardening
Kittikins Glad you enjoyed a lovely Easter, and your dd is enjoying developing her writing skills
Megs mum great you and your doh are both keen on your campervan, although my dd and dsd are both to young to emigrate I'd be torn between encouraging them and missing them hope all works out well for you all
mollythewestie well done on your bargains this weekend
niksyg glad your oh is feeling better and that you're both having a great time at your mum's
nuttybabe glad you found a lovely site, and you got great customer service. Well done your dd, a moneysaver in the making!
Patchwork Quilt welcome back! Well done for your hard work on your allotment, lovely to have a visit from your brother
savingforoz great that you're up together with your finances, and ensuring you keep in touch with friends
sparrer glad to hear you had a great evening with your friends
Tealady now you know why my dp brings me breakfast in bed every day, lol! Great to hear you've taken time to relax and enjoy yourself.
wssla00 I can feel my inner Margery Dawes 'Oooooh, I love a bit of cake...'
My five for today:
1) Tea and toast in bed courtesy dp
2) special cuddles from dd this morning as one of her best friends visited today
3) day trip to Bristol Zoo with dp, dd and friend enjoying themselves completing an Easter Egg hunt and spashing through Dora Creek (Dora the Explorer)
4) getting back early afternoon forgot the time as dd and friend were enjoying themselves so much and rang dd's friend's mum at 6:45pm(!) crossed wires they thought we were dropping her off and we thought they were collecting
5) enjoying a glass of wine whist watching QI, reading your pleasures and writing this post. dp is now enjoying Lego Indiana Jones on the Wii"We have to be kind because everyone is fighting a great, great battle" - Sir Richard Attenborough
"There is a special place in hell for women who don't help other women" - Madeleine Albright0 -
Just popping in briefly to post my 5 for today:
1. Getting a text out of the blue from a former colleague. We may meet for lunch next week. It was good to hear from her.
2. I may be getting Penny and Gizmo back - their new owners have already emailed the liaison officer to say that they think their flat may be too small for two cats, especially one as active as Gizmo.
3. Back to the gym after failing miserably to go over the Easter period.
4. Organising some meals out for my birthday, which is later this month.
5. Yummy spicy pasta for tea.Life is not a dress rehearsal.0 -
Well, I've not had the best day money wise.
My annual service of the central heating has turned into a new boiler and system upgrade. The boiler is only seven years old.
So much for upgrading the manky avocado bathroom suite this year.
But while I recovered from the shock, I grabbed a damp cloth and spent a couple of hours using it to "upgrade" the kitchen/hall/stairs/lightswitches/anything I could reach.
And the house definitely does look betterimport this0 -
Im sneaking in to say HUGE CONGRATS to Caterina
bet it feels so liberating!
I laughed and hugged as I read posts, but I have limited time yet again! Its lovely to see so many people replying to posts individually, Ollie has alot to answer for now we know her secrets! I miss not having time to reply, but I am thinking of you all.
Trying to put 5 together, not that its not been nice, just that finding old style ones is hard!
1) Rain rain and more rain - may sound bad however, the burns (waterfalls draining the mountains for the non scots or uninitiated like moi!) look STUNNING! they are raging! Although the loch is looking pretty high!
2) Rain = wet hens, and I shouldn't laugh but its so heart warming to still see them being so happy despite the rain! They are soaked, yet still come meet me, and are out and running around, not locked up in some shed being forced to lay.
3) My wonderful dog playing "tug" with 2 toddlers under 3, and letting them win! Seriously, he is a big boy, and boysterous, but takes his meet and greet role so seriously. And today was playing with his sausages, with 2 little ones (he adores children) and he was letting them win every now and then! He is amazing.
4) My rocket is surviving! Despite said rain and the un predicted frost! Ok, so everything else seems to have died, or not appeared, however, I grew some rocket that is surviving! (can you tell I never grew anything before!)
5) I have enough bottles for my greenhouse door! Ok so who knows when or if I will get a door, but I have enough bottles!
On a side note, first valuation is in, based on figures we sent and a convo over the phone as its a way to come for the agents just to tell us a value aparently... and its not great but its not bad. However, a different agent is coming out to us in a weeks time, so I will take what he says probably mroe serious, its a case of having to be there - you need to see it to know
have a nice evening all
JexI will pay jexygirl the compliment of saying that she invariably writes a lot of sense!0
