  • caterina - well done on finishing up with your job. Freeeeee!
Bella - so sorry to hear you're in pain. Hope it starts to ease soon.
Megsmum - Love hearing about your campervan dreams. I would love to do a campervan tour of the whole of the UK (if I had the money!) :T
laurel - oh dear about your boiler :(. It's so horrible when big-spend problems surface, isn't it?
Jexy - you reminded me of how much our hens (when we had them) hated the rain but they wouldn't actually go into the shelter! Durrr
puss14 - 2 kgs of olives! That's amazing. And well done on completing your degree. :T What did you get a degree in?
newlywed - sorry to hear about your car expenses.:(

I'm just attempting to be a bit of a kitchen goddess today. Have made up some marinade for my Vietnamese chicken for tomorrow night and have baked some Bruschettas to go with tonight's tea. 'Cept the first batch were left in a bit too long, but they have been turned into delish garlic croutons instead.

Here are my 5 from yesterday:

    1) A lovely day. Perfect drying weather.
    2) The sound of the boys playing in the field at the back of the house for most of the day and DH mowing the lawn in the early evening.
    3) Lost 2 lbs and have finally got past that yo-yoing block of last month. Into my next weight-loss target range now :D
    4) No lessons - so getting on with tidying and gardening jobs. Made a list and had fun crossing the jobs off.
    5) Using up the last of last years leeks from the garden in leek and potato soup.

    Hi BlimusOreilly,
I was also impressed by the amount of olives, the tree is quite special as we planted it over our beautiful dog Tara, who was like a daughter to us and is still badly missed. My degree is a Bachelor of Indigenous Studies which tbh Im not too sure where it's going to take me, but I am still glad I did it (regardless of what certain members of my family thinks;))

Good save with the bruschettas *cough- croutons:D, sounds like something i'd do. I need to join you in losing weight I'm fast approaching 40 and would like to be fit and fantastic when I reach this landmark:rotfl:

    Evening all -

Firstly well done Puss on your degree!!! Wow... I am impressed, but what is a degree in indigenous studies entail?

    1) I LEFT WORK ON TIME!!! 5.15pm and I was out that door

    2) Arranged to meet a friend for drinks on Friday night in London. I am down there for work so it makes it doubly worthwhile.

    3) Went to the fancy dress shop to get my dress for my brothers birthday party on Saturday night. The theme is 20's. If anyone is ever in the Stevenage area and needs a fabulous fancy dress shop let me know. She is making me a gorgeous dark turquiose (if there is such a colour) dress, with head band, cigarette holder (I don't smoke), beads and feather boa for only £20!! And she is such a lovely lady as well.

    4) Going to MrA after work and getting a huge pack of smoked salmon for only £3... YUM

    5) Plugging in my iPod as I drove home, which has added to my really good mood! :)

    6) Finding out that my company has retained a really important contract which I had some input into.

    7) Getting the highest mark for my presentations that I did a few weeks ago at the conference. We didn't have the most number of attendees but at least the ones that did come enjoyed themselves and actually learnt a thing or two.
    Have a great evening!

puss14 - :T on getting your degree - Indigenous Studies sounds an intriguing subject. WD on your olives, too - that's quite a haul from one tree.

Blimus - your bruschetta / croutons sound very tasty, whatever name you want to call them by ;)

wssla00 - it sounds very interesting round your way - I'm not surprised you don't watch soaps if you have that going on outside your window! :)

newlywed - I'm sorry to hear about your car - no-one on this thread's having much luck with their cars at the moment, are they? Fingers crossed you find a nice new one very quickly. I haven't had malt loaf since I was a kid, and really fancy some now - could you send me a slice down the wire if there's any left, please? ;):D

emilyka - my seeds are being a bit slow to germinate, too - so far I've got lots of broccoli, but not much else (the main problem here being that I don't like broccoli much - I only grew them as they were freebies and I thought I might as well)

mollythewestie - I know the fried risotto things you mean - I tried them in Italy years ago and they were yummy (I think they're called arancini, but I'm sure Caterina will correct me if I'm wrong! :)). I'll have to try making some - from your description, they don't sound as tricky to make as I thought they were.

Bella - I hope you're recovering from your injuries - e-hugs are flowing in your direction. smiley-hug008.gif

Jex - :T on your rocket. I've never had a lot of luck growing it - maybe it prefers the cold conditions you've got at the moment?

laurel - I'm sorry to hear about your bad day yesterday, and I hope today was better.

savingforoz - that's such a shame about Penny and Gizmo - they obviously didn't realise how much room a cat (or two) can take up. At least you're there to take them back if necessary, so they don't end up homeless - WD you! :T

Right, let's see if I can find five pleasures. I might struggle a bit as it's back to normal at work today, but sadder than usual as so many people are on holiday and it's depressingly quiet. :(

    1) Porridge for breakfast this morning, and I got the consistency spot on for once (my porridge-making skills usually leave quite a lot to be desired :o)

    2) LO favourite tuna pasta bake for lunch - it's not quite as good cold, but still pretty tasty. :)

    3) Got a 10% off code for a fairtrade website I'm fond of, so I might treat myself to a handmade mini chopping board I've wanted to a while (it's the perfect size for chopping fruit for porridge and veg for sandwiches, so it'll be pretty useful to have).

    4) I've had to abandon my mealplan for tonight (it was supposed to be veg biriani but the only veg I've got left are parsnips, which I'm not sure I fancy just on their own with curried rice), so I'll go freezer dipping instead - now, what have I got lurking in there? smiley-char054.gif

    5) Might try and track down the latest installment of my favourite travel show on iplayer to watch later.

    Have a lovely evening, all.
Back after a very long break!

    Thankfully - a better day for me today;

    1. Managed to sit in the car without too much discomfort to the pulled muscle in my leg.

    2. Hobbled round Henley Market.

    3. Bought 4 back issue 'posh' magazines for £1. Should satiate my thirst for Country Living and the like for a while.

    4. Another OS and very MSE picnic in the car.

    5. A Henley ice cream - well they're famous and it would be rude to pass them by.

    **************Thank you******************

A while back i explained how my kids and i had been voted for a competition to find Britain's most adventurous family. I asked if people would vote for us and the response was great and very supportive.
I reported back and said how thanks to your votes we had made the final 3.

Well, yesterday (Tuesday) we travelled from the North of England down to Chessington World of adventures. Today (Wed) we took part in a number of challenges with 'Wierd Creatures' presenter Nick Baker which included doing a presentation on penguins and getting to feed them! Hunting down and feeding some Binturongs (bearcats) I had to put my hands and arms in bags which had all types of bugs in, my daughter had to hold a tarantula and my son ended up with a Python around his neck!
It turned out to be a fantastic day and one which was made better by the fact we won :)

We would never have got to the final without votes so for everyone who took the time to vote for us i would like to say a huge thank you. Without your support today just would not have been possible.

    Thank you all so much

    Hello,

Puss14 - Can you grow olive trees in UK or are you somewhere abroad and sunny?
Blimus - Surely you have my life? When I was at Uni I imagined I would settle down in the country and teach my children at home. Well done! I now know I would not be self diciplined enough. My children would run wild and I would not be able to cope without supermarkets and 10 o'clock shops on every corner :o

Didn't get very far with the Flylady thingy today, but I tried!

    Yesterday

    1. Lots of Flylady tasks completed.
    2. Few nice finds in CS.
    3. Took DS2 bike to bike shop to enquire about fixing the chain. They were soooo helpful.
    4. DD and DS1 having friends over to stay. Nice to feel they can invite people. House can't be that bad!!:rotfl:
    5. Stroganoff for tea with lots of double cream as it needed to be used up!;)

    Today

    1. Collected DS2 bike. Cost £10 to fix, but DS1's happiness is priceless!
    2. Used the plasic packaging from our easter eggs as seed trays and sowed tomatoes, peppers, marigolds and garlic. :money:
    3. Watching the Italian Job.
    4. Nanny McPhee (Orange Wed) with DS2 this afternoon.
    5. Walk round the park this evening with DH, happy doggie and v happy son on his bike. :)

Hope tomorrow is a great day for everyone. HE xx

    Hi all

Thank you for your congratulations re. finishing my job! As Bella pointed out, I am already wondering how I managed to fit any work in my life, as there is so much to do!

Mr Lahey and family, well done on winning! Is it just the prestige or do you get something too (a holiday, a cup etc...?). You must be very proud and your kids must be very proud of their wonderful dad!

Here are my pleasures for the day:

1 - Morning spent tidying up and sorting out home things.

2 - Free facial in central London, courtesy of magazine voucher

3 - Felafel lunch (very cheap and unlimited salad included). I reckon that from now on this will be my affordable monthly treat, £3.90 gives me a lovely, healthy and veg.-rich hot lunch.

4 - Tea and pudding (scone with jam) at M&S cafe, where I paid with the vouchers I get from the credit card, so the total bill (in money) came to 35p! Another treat that is going to go because in May I am giving up the Privilege credit card, so I am enjoying it while I can.

5 - Tonight my ex-colleagues (director and one of the trustees) gave a talk to the local WI about the charity I have been working with. Great success, the leaflets and donation forms went like hot cakes, hopefully they will get regular donations from this!

6 - I rejoined the WI and might even go for the post of secretary (to keep myself out of mischief while unemployed LOL).

    Love to all xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    Evening everyone,

    Mr Lahey - Congratulations:j:j:j

    Mine for today:
    1. Got through lots of work in the office today, still a massive amount to do but we seem to be making progress. Plus I am learning something new everyday.
    2. Ordering a peony plant for my mum and dad using a tip off MSE.
    3. Chatting to DD on the phone today, she is having a great couple of days away with my mum and auntie and cousin.
    4. My bargain clothing order from Mr.T arriving and all discounts had been applied
    5. Night out with OH to cinema (Orange Wednesday) to watch Clash of the Titans then had dinner in a local restaurant which had a buy one get one free on mains.

Hugs to all who need them
