5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Evening all from land of much heat.
I decided to drive to work today as I wanted to be in early. Saw hot air balloons on my way....it enhances my day!
I actually had the nicest day at work that I've had in a long time, no meals ordered to cook until midday. I baked and baked and was quite happy , I made apple and raspberry muffins, carrot cakes, yoyos, butter cookies and lemon meringue cupcakes. I had my break , which hasn't always been happening.
Went for a cold drink and shared some chips with main colleague after work, it was very hot but we had a good old moan! Her turn to pay!
Came home and booked my holiday ....22 weeks to go. Deposit paid and some financial contribution from older ( young adults) children asked for and agreed on, we are staying in a cottage with ocean views, a direct path to the beach and Haggis is looking forward to it! We will take an overnight ferry and a few hours drive and its so nice to have something to look forward to.
Made lasagne for dinner with potato salad and salad . It was so hot and the last thing I felt like doing was cook but I did. There will be some portions for freezer.
Watched Call The Midwife whilst lasagne was cooking.
3 days off ahead, a list of things to make a start on. An even hotter day ahead tomorrow so shall get as much done in the morning.
Have a lovely Monday0 -
Greetings all!
Brought to you from under infection control duvet (at home, it's just a cold but I haven't kicked it off yet) whilst felling distinctly unchuffed with life, Til I Got Reading. Have decided to live out of curiosity.
VJsmum - oooh fingers so crossed for PhD! "Started as a student should by leaving early"!!! (How many wouldbe PhDs can't drive a library? Or was it All Students? (Got an .ac.edu address? New licensed office software? NUS card for the discounts?!) pressure socks for SA flight?!
LaineyT - howling lamentations at wicked Fates.
Frith - &'s sartorial guidance vehemently seconded. If that is the best they can do supporting their staff They Do Not Deserve You. (Mind you, not sure what my boss did to deserve me but I'm sure she's very penitent.)
Ampersand - amidst the sniffling, coughing, upbraiding etcetera I have addressed stern words to any deity listening on the subject of cherished heirloom relatives - hoping intelligent planning works too! Huge hugs with the 'progress' that is international communications. Ye Gods rhubarb supposed to be in bed under cardboard? Minion! [dash. All in school.]
DundeeDoll - why is it bishops never do the h2only? Just work requirements?! Venice?! Congratulations!
BoP - even I've enjoyed the cricket! Pancake season open already?! We raced that snow front home & in part that's why I'm flattened - adrenalin burning stuff
Purple kitten - splendid haul at Mr.T! And all DF's shopping - he's a well-loved man.
Skint - the right dog *will* find you. Til then Castle is a delightful distraction!
sparrer - top kick footwear! Casserole sounds superlative...
Mhagster - heron! Botheration job forgetting it's Monday-Friday agreement but at least (a) paid (b) busily appreciative (new year resolutions going clonk around your creations?!) The 8 year old gossip sounds blissful! Holiday booked - excellent & hot air balloons for the soul are as hwb for the body.
Mrs m - when next vertical for over 20 minutes I must try that recipe! The one good thing about being confined to bed is that the snow, ice & generally ick weather don't impinge as much.
VickyA - where the positives escape you, read a few pages of this thread? They do return...
Judi - happy new year & wow, two tip runs. Convince children by all extraneous items into box under table, 1st of ea month, box to tip. (As long as they believe, it works...)?
There have been OS pleasures!
The first commute of the new year achieved. If not quite a pleasure, certainly a reassurance.
New Elements! What will our beloved Professor Lehrer do? Other than outlive the naming committees, and swoop in for a triumph? (Please?!)
I have the last Pratchett book the Shepherd's Crown. Now I'm wrestling with myself: I want to read it but that would mean accepting it's the last. [Ulp. Read. Sniff.]
"Digital sundown" also known as switching the router off at 8pm - I think we need to try this in our house. How I'll get my bedtime fix of Italian I haven't figured...
Meditating on standards - just seen a colleague walk the length of the office to rinse a teaspoon. Whoever trained him did the job Thoroughly.
A daft soft toy for youngest's Christmas arrives at Epiphany - it's Studio Ghibli designed grin triggers a smile response. I wonder if he'll understand I call it one of the Magi? [Listening to the lad trying to read the word Zoroastrianism was another pleasure!]
Frankly laughing at the Creme Egg display. It's that or weep, & thinking of greedy Bunny vs itinerant Wisdom has my grin twisting a little wryly.
Wassailing my apple trees. [That my nocturnal perambulation with toast & bottle startled one neighbour & triggered a minor manhunt by my menfolk lesser but still pleasures. Dress code dressing gown & Wellies on their part.]
Lift floor number bingo. A new game to me & moderately amusing. I think I prefer 'negotiate the farm track' though - it's more a game of skill...
Son has sudden itching on donor site of skin graft & little brother helpfully suggests "it's leg syphillis!"....
Youngest's expression as he cut the string on the helium balloon & it sailed up to the point of the roof. Eldest cheerfully inhaled the other balloon (experience tells) and squeaked happily. [Fine old family traditions, both. I inadvertently loosed a balloon into the Bodleian library & was stuffed with intended-for-Christmas chocolate to muffle the lamentation. Not a mistake m'father made again, nor my response to annoyed-with-self son.]
Whomever mislaid the safety pin on the powder extinguisher would be well advised to apologise - however the cleanup does mean the floor is clear & clean! [Was, anyway.]
OS pleasure in *not* buying a lotto ticket - my stats training overcomes the "it could be me" daydream awfully swiftly. Besides which, all those millions Would change me & I'm passably content with the status quo.
Oh dear. Eavesdropping on son searching for something, along with my filthy mind - y'know sometimes I wish I could turn my imagination *off*...
The Bronze Age discoveries near Peterborough/Cambridge - just wow what a site!
Went for a swim - sole pool user with very benevolent lifeguard. When I'd finished swimming (he did have a shift to end) we chatted - bathtubs for The Tall, life guarding changes (two folk to retrieve an unconscious person now - definitely a step forward but we recalled & cheerfully abused those who solo dragged us over the lintel & let heads bang on poolsides!) and first aid (life guarding but drier). Splendid chat & a welcome change of topic from unending computers & politics!
Oh, and I got into a swimsuit that I thought would not fit! Lycra is *wonderful* stuff. To be praised for a neat powerful front crawl is a startling & pleasant change, but I can only attribute it to excellent teachers in childhood.
Mindful of the chorus of approval, resupplied on Aldi's Kanpur Garden jars of Tikka curry sauce. *Remarkably* gets whole family approval.
The tailor is back - that or I quit at a sensible hour. Gosh that hand raised conveys heavy duty ecclesiastical goodwill - I just hope my widening grin conveys anything similar in return.
New scaffolding in the carpark - clearly it passed the weight test as it corners neatly over onto the bridge. HS2 here may yet come.
Son hugely enjoying the Wipers Times, esp the met report - 3 to 1 odds of mist, 8 to 1 odds of chlorine...
Backed up, wiped & reinstalled iPad - it all works! Exactly as promised but faster!
Son has just walked in clutching baking tray (& tablet blaring "back in black" - he does Love to make an entrance!) to impressed amused & bemused responses - it's blown the planned meal schedule but we don't discourage baking!
Huge hugs to all who need them, heartfelt thanks to all who post as it really helps when you feel gruesome to hear familiar voices carrying on cheering the good stuff and the to do list for returning schoolboys now includes the rhubarb pit....0 -
For those under the Duvet :heartpuls, even if the music plays loudly
5 In emporium, well, went inn as BoPsie needed dressing, down! Successfully removed from display an airgun magazine from view, 9 copies. Was on bottom shelf where children could see them. Now behind a tv on another shelf. They wont get sold, and maybe a child stops thinking about wanting one. As Father of BoP never bought me a toy gun, he said if I wanted one, grow up and serve. Also removed twelve copies of war video games.
4 After that, had bacon butty and free cup elsewhere, inn w8rz caff. Did not want to give too much to other emporium.
3 Just updating profiles on inked in. If I can get in!
2 Film night. I ant a Monroe, but I guess I will get a BoPsie. Oh well, dreams are made!
The things that blondes say!0 -
Evening all its been a busy spendy Monday
1. food shop done and came within budget.
2. visit to 99p shop but it was shut ! Its being turned into a poundland .... not going there anymore far too expensive :rotfl:
went to B&M instead and got misc bits was going to get in 99p shop - all 99p in B&M
3. also treated myself with xmas money from DP's - have switched bedrooms with DS and colour scheme changed from teal to brown/cream. Got a double quilt set priced at 16.99 but went through the till at £9.99, a light shade for £1.99 and a lovely throw reduced to £8.99
4. resisted KFC for lunch and instead had a reduced micro meal bought in Aldi with 30% off
5. remembered to make phone calls to rearrange appointments for dentist and breast screening. Also remembered to pick up repeat prescription ordered before new year - oops - completely forgot I am supposed to take simvastatin every day hopefully 2 weeks without wont make much difference
6. had my hair done so no longer mistaken for a badger ! Colour / cut / foils / blow dry was £40 but so worth it - I just cant manage to do it myself - I struggle with pain in my hands and the results are not great. Had a good chat with lovely lady who does it for me - she works from home and we set the world to rights for 2 hours

Tonight is nearest thing to winter this time round yet.
1. 2 hwbs ready and waiting. Did you find the rest of yours, Frith? - and were The Shoes noticed :-)?
2. Strange REM sleep dream this morning, for which & felt self deliberately staying in sleep, to see what would happen next, whilst also noting that Les Calanques weren't quite like this and yet they somehow were, despite being inside a galleried antique-place with lapping Mediterranean etc.etc...........
Yes yes, of course you had to be there:-) You know how dreams go. Fortifying yet unsettling stuff.
3. Toulon escaped. Again. Just. 15-11, thanks to[rictus admission]An Orstrylian - Drew Mitchell. We'd better start playing soon.
4. Coal-face times resumed, as limited by me. Human basics seem to have completely by-passed some, or been avoidance paydirt in whatever was their early life. X seemed to welcome old normalcy in a few moments of snatched chat. There is a boom in damaged, flotsam, uncoping people among us 'out there'. They've never been taught, didn't learn, have had neither example nor mentor, don't understand that they are not even monolingual in human planet terms, let alone any other.
5. The lovely soup was even lovelier tonight. Other 'me, too's from recent posts here:
- skirt steak - yes, lovely stuff and also used by & for biltong.
- & came to halt tonight when one deer, only last-second visible, leapt into road from dyke-side, then followed by 4 more.
- Mrs LW, that's a very more-ish sounding risotto you've conjured. Might purloin with tweaks - emporium aubergines all rtc 14p. They are beautiful things in themselves.

Even car radio seems affected by notspotness now. In last few days, have had to be several miles off before it functions. Now about to see if enzed phone works..................'BONJOUR. le num!ro que vous composez n'est pas attribu!'....... & is dialling enzed. Repeatedly. Now, 3 rising tones again.......
