    Very strange day!!!

    Pleasures:

    1. Closed 2 unused bank/CC accounts by 8.30 am - pleasure as I have been procrastinating for ages!!!

    2. Been headhunted for a job - fab job and massive promotion - sadly can't go for it (90 min commute each way is not do able as a single mum!) but nice to see my skills being noticed!!!

    3. went to see a retirement apartment with the Reverend mother - I'm not convinced she is ready for it but she is! and that's what counts! she loved it and will effectively save her £150 a month - and she will let them replace her hip now - she wouldn't consider it due to steep stairs and downstairs bathroom in current house!!!

    4. Reasonable day in work - lucky I have the job I have!!! It could be worse!

    5. Friend with back pain problems a little better today after hospital visit yesterday (her birthday!)

    Pleasures for today:

    1) Not a bad sleep.

    2) Have had worse days at work, I think. Shoes unnoticed, of course. Thank goodness for other new colleague (same post) whose worries that are whispered to me each morning, match mine!

    3) Got a few jobs done after work - cleaned the stairs, more washing, lit the fire etc.

    4) Tasty Quorn pie for tea, with sweet potatoes.

    5) Went swimming with sons and my brother and met a young man in there I had been working with just hours before! (That happens a lot).

    6) In bed with 1 hwb and iplayer poised...

Catching up on all things OS and oh lovely, big big pleasure of reading that & beloved Uncle has been spoken to by & and is surrounded by caring, lovely nurses, whoop whoop :j

Other pleasures include, as always DFV momentous post, sending mucho love for a speedy recovery m'dear.

Fate be a funny thing, not an hour after Lainey (after much deliberation) turned down offered job was made aware of another opportunity, far more suited to experience and qualifications, CV duly emailed off.

Time spent walking equine pal in wintry sunshine, he stepped out with purpose and only slightly baulked at scary hedge trimmer, not seen but audibly apparent. As always, down the rein into the brain so as long as Lainey stays calm, so does Billy E.

Oh and purchased Sir Billy a cosy new stable rug...

Must not forget delicious apple cake handed over as left darling Mum on Sunday evening, warmed with proper custard it's a thing of beauty.

Hello from day off number one.

It's been a hottie but it's dropped by about 10o to 28o so feels a bit cooler at the moment.

Combined a dog walk with a drop off of 2 more bags of stuff for salvos.

Finished a book and half way through another.

Moved furniture around a bit. Had moved stuff to accommodate Christmas trees and hadn't got round to moving back. Done now though.

Went back into salvos later and found a pair of almost new shoes ( suitable for my weird feet) took the removable orthotic insoles out and they are are perfectly fine. The soles don't look like they've been walked on.
I have such a problem getting comfortable shoes, so hoping these do the trick.

Made macaroni cheese with some bacon and onion through it.

I've had to change holiday dates . DD2's school calendar came in the post, her debutante ball is on the night after we left! So emailed and changed dates ....then we realised there wasn't a ferry on that night so had to email again to change dates again! ( thought woman must have thought I was crazy!)

I'm watching 'Made in Dagenham' and enjoying it.

& so glad you got to speak to your uncle.

    Have a good day :)

skint yes as VJsmum says NAD is no alcohol day. Decided it would be a) good for my health b) good for my diet c) good for my wallet, and tallying on here would be a good way to keep track. Am aiming at 50%
dfv wassailing your apple trees - lovely. i do enjoy a good wassail (which is most definitely not a NAD!)
& fab news on unc. forgot to update on the archers christmas santa. The jigsaw once done had been released to another archers / jigsaw fan (so again enjoyed). Instead I gave her a 99p calendar with the ambridge calendar girls photo shamelessly lifted from auntie's page, resized and stuck on front; a bottle of cider with Grundy's Scrumpy label, bar of chocolate with 'to tease Shula at lent' label, bar of soap with 'Grey Gables Spa' label, tin of organic chick peas with 'Bridge Farm Organics' label, my 'day phil archer died' poem, and an almost good as new copy of Jennifer's Pantry, purloined from the Oxfam book shop. New colleague very touched that santa had been so thoughtful, santa delighted to have the challenge!
judi24 well done on the head hunt, and good news re. rev mother
laineyt good luck on the job
5 for yesterday, which now seems a very long time ago!
    1) weather horrid, was pleased xoh offered me a lift.
    2) took advantage of her kind spirit to get her to stop en route at coop where i purchased this week's office milk and a bag of decaf ground coffee, fair trade and reduced from £2.50 to 49p
    3) lost 1.5 pounds at slimming world (i guess the NADs are working!). Another 5.5 pounds and i won't have to pay the weekly fee :D
    4) walked to mum's (had at least stopped sleeting). we are eating through her overcrammed freezer. very nice fish cakes, turned down alcohol so another NAD
    5) home to cosy bed with cosy cat and Dickensian episode 3
    MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

  • 1) Being on the fixed side of my dentist appointment for a big filling this afternoon, much better now!

    2) A beautiful sunny day has been enjoyed very much here today, super walk with Cookie and Charlie retriever and his mum and cerulean blue skies, so pretty.

    3) DD1 has been encouraged by the head of the school she currently teaches at to apply for the Deputy Head position that will be starting in September, she didn't think she would when the job description was published but has decided to apply and see what happens, exciting times.

    4) A most gorgeous camellia bush in a garden I passed on the bus this afternoon, absolutely covered in double flamingo pink blooms, breathtaking!

    5) Porridge for my supper, told not to chew tonight and I LOVE porridge! yum!
  • For those watching in black and white, BoP is wearing his pink Bertie Bassett top!

5 That chicken roasted by BoP on Sunday last, is now a curry. And, most like last week, is maturing on the stove. It will not see Friday, due to circumstances.

4 Heating optimised early this moving due to frost. Latest temperature controlled thermostat was fitted in September 2014. Previous gas consumption was 13,200kW per year on pervious thermostat. Last year down to 12,300kW. Money in BoP purse. New thermostat uses an optimise function to predict how long it takes to get warm, and adjust. This morning rise had a frost. CH is on 24/7. No thermostatic radiator calves are used.

3 Just fixed to Jan 17. No saving on Tarrif this month, but new Tarrif due in ten days. It lays to keep on top of them. Checks toes. They're warm. Lovely.

    2 Night if I don't get a Monroe, I am ...

In our rush to diversify, we gave become increasingly intolerant.

    BoP thermostat.

    Day programme. 7:30 18C, 8:30 15C, 14:30 18C, 21:00 14C

To heat front room, use the blooming fire!

Our house seems a constant 15, BoP, with the bedrooms a lot less. That's with the stove going from 3.30 onwards.

    Pleasures for today:

    1) Not a bad sleep.

    2) 2 dreadful hours at work followed by reasonable ones.

    3) Went to see my friend for a cup of tea after work.

    4) Bigger son had a chat with me about the day they had today telling them about their forthcoming work experience.

    5) Watched Holby City.

    6) In bed already with 1 hwb.

    Pleasures since Sunday evening

    1. A nice evening Calling the Midwife and Walking the himalayas. And Knitting.
    2. Students did an exam yesterday - start of my marking fest. Picked up papers as soon as exam finished. Took them on the train to bristol and back, question 1 done. Then sat at table when i got home - question 2 done. Got up this morning and set to - thrid and final question done. :T Nearly a record - i did mark a set overnight once.
    3. Some good papers in the above Was particularly pleased at a 47 for a resit, and a 91 for a student who thought he wouldn't go on to a degree but is now storming his way through it.:T
    4. Treated myself to a bath when i finished. Had said if it were done by 11 i could. So i lay in bath and watched Hinterland.
    5. Cooked a yummy chilli for tea tonight - had with half an avo.
