1 Back to the nest. See you later ............
    1. I know it’s a bit close to the day but my first ever attempt at a Christmas pud is complete and actually looks and smells like Christmas pud, made with everything we had in and lurking already, except suet at 60p and 3 hours of gas….:)
Steaming eh? For the sauce, we use a tired and rusted method. Two tbsp. corn flour. 2 tsp sugar. Vanilla essence . glug of single malt. Mic withy pint of boiling milk. Then, at 6 pm, as it is dark, dust the pudding in sugar, coat with single malt, light and be careful with your paws!
Sit, eat, enjoy. Oh, Demerara sugar!
  • Frith you can be my secret santa any time with those goodies ...nom nom

    Pleasures for today (Friday).

    1) Not a bad sleep. Had a lovely dream that I met up with my friends from sixth form college.

    2) Feeling better from on-going cold/sinusitis thing.

    3) Had to laugh at work when I got a text from my friend who had been wrapping presents. She couldn't find the sellotape in its dispenser anywhere - then realised she had wrapped it up! Then our HR lady found me and I had signed a form in my married name :-O Of course they had no idea who Mrs X was! I was rather embarrassed to explain that I got divorced nearly 11 years ago and I have no idea why I suddenly used that signature!

    4) My secret santa recipient looked a bit bemused but not horrified when she opened my present. I opened mine at home. Did not recognise the writing at all. I got some blackboard style signs for the garden (so you can label your plants) and some gardener's soap from Lush.

    5) Smaller son arrived home before I did but my dad popped up to see that he was OK. He had already cooked himself toast and fried eggs by the time dad got there!

    6) Quick pizzas for tea.

    7) Sons went role playing with my brother and brother in law.

    8) Smaller son has been invited to watch Star Wars tomorrow. The first time he has been out with a friend/to a friend's house in years.

    9) Then got a phone call from my sister who is going to take them swimming tomorrow! Giving me time to do some shopping.

    10) Wrapped stocking fillers while they were out this evening.

    11) Enjoyed Gogglebox.

    12) In bed with 1 hwb and about to watch HIGNFY.

vjsmum Happy Birthday! A little late but I like the ones that go on for days ;)

Lainey little bucks were called jumping daisies when DS was 5, learning on his first pony (a beautiful girl, 11.2hh Welsh Section A, cremello with the biggest blue eyes). It used to make him giggle helplessly :)
Frith well done for having the courage of your convictions, you couldn't have done anything else.
BoP good for you, chase the beggars off. Not a good organisation at all, the smaller ones are more level headed by far. And their pts policy stinks - just my humble opinion, you understand :p. Are you done in this area now? If not we'll have to look at dates for a coffee sometime in the NY.
mhags I do Not envy you the heat. Sounded like a nice place to sit even if the lunch wasn't up to much
PK I saw that programme, 1400 would be almost 2 years groceries for me and they spent it on Christmas week . Hope you're feeling better today

    1. The weather is wonderful, did a bit of pulling and pottering, even took a chance and planted the last of the sack of daffies
    2. New boiler etc installed, it will take a bit of getting used to but will play with the dials etc until it's how I want it.
    3. Airing cupboard put back together, very little left out for cs etc. I have to have a tidy airing cupboard, it gives me great pleasure to open the door and see all the folds to the front and in size order. Just one of my little quirks :)
    4. Put the star and nativity scene in the window, decorated the staircase with holly and draped the mirror with lights. Deckies all done :D
    5. Gogglebox/First Dates
    6. Clean bed linen calling

    Sweet dreams :)

Morning all, thank you very much for the birthday wishes. I had a lovely day - s little marred by going to work, but even that was ok.

Frith - sorry about bad doggy experience.
Ampersand - fudge is lish isn't it? My DD says it is more like ganache
Sparrer - it is going on for days :D DD and I are going to Kinky Boots (musical) today and OH and I are hopefully going walking tomorrow. Then probably Star Wars for Dd and me in the evening

    So pleasures for the week

1 last full week of teaching. For the foreseeable EVER :T it was all I could do to get through it. But get through it I did
2 some very pleasant walks to and fro. Apart from spying two fat rats in some gardens in Birmingham
3 Theatre again this week for DD and I - the Garrick in London for a Kenneth Branagh production "All on her own" a monologue by Zoe Wanamaker and "harlequinade" a Ratigan farce with Branagh, Zoe Wanamaker amongst others. Excellent production and made better that we could shuffle to the dearer seats before it began
4 preceded by dinner in Ask. Courtesy of Mr T vouchers
5 got the Christmas cards written and sent. Not sure I will send so many in future
6 lovely BD pressies, white stuff Jim jams what I chose from OH, a Coldplay CD from DS, Lush products from DD, money from dad with which I bought a dress (and some very lovely words in the card, dad is really my step dad but I think we often both forget that :)), Simply Nigella cookbook (from the cuddly toys :rotfl:), lovely scarf - and a bizarre eye massage vibrating thing from my sis - which instantly gave me a sick headache and is destined for the chazzer but at least made me :rotfl:
7 DS being very nice ("are you sure you don't want us to get up early to open your pressies before you go to work") but as they didn't need to get up otherwise, we did pressies when I got back. Glimpses of a rather decent man, post - teenage. Gives a mother hope :rotfl:
8 girlie lunch with friends. Hoping for more of that during the studying years
9 nice email from new supervisor. All getting a bit real now
    10. Put the tree up - with my decorations collected from my travels over many years. Always brings back happy memories. New additions include a tea pot from Hong Kong, and "thing" from the gardens by the bay in Singapore, a Big Apple from.... Yes you guessed :D, a moose from Germany, and a rocking horse from s charity shop in Derbyshire.
    Have a lovely day all.
I wanna be in the room where it happens

On a more positive note I've had a lovely chat with my girl on her train, in her first class carriage , enjoying a cup of tea and a pastry!

Then had a quick chat with friend from home ( again!) already spoke to her this morning and then a good chat with my favourite 8 year old....who is going on an adventure today but doesn't know where! So we had fun guessing!

Yay to vjsmum onwards and upwards .....happy new PhD!

VJsMum - apologies for tardy Birthday wishes, fantastic that you are extending the celebrations but even better that it's your last week at work.
Sparrer ha, jumping daisies, love it. Unfortunately Mr B Elliot tends to let rip with what some would call a Broncs cheer when bucking so daisy like it ain't :rotfl: Ah, first ponies, mine was a 12.2 cob with a hogged mane and viscous nature called Trooper. Lainey spent just as much time on the floor as on said pony.
Mhags my, what heat! but good you have spoken to your girlie.
    Some pleasures for yesterday,

Lovely veterinarian confirmed that farty equine can go out in paddock for two hours a day.

Weather stayed dry and even saw some sunshine, albeit watery.

Successful trip into BuryStEd for final few pressies, lovely coffee and cake in Apex cafe, avoided overpriced and busy well known coffee shops.

Cheese and wine for supper, catching up on quiz and comedy shows.

    Cuddles with Captain Scarlet.
  • Today is called by the media, Panic Saturday. Oh dear! Goat, not sheep.

1 Last evening Raffles had ten minutes of emergency lick paw. We knew it was going to happen, but not when. As Raffles spends twelve hours of every day asleep, and the other twelve wanting sleep, he got into the small basket, and, well, slept. And slept. And slept. Well past closedown. We waited downstairs, and then it happens.

2 CAT DOWN. Thud. BoPsie, eager to see damage, found basket upturned on floor. Cat decked. Licking laws, seriously. Basket, contents were retrieved. Raffles recovering well, has eaten, now asleep. Again. In basket.

3 Snorkers feast Saturday again, served with grilled toms, bacon. Fried egg this week. Toast and mushrooms. Washed down with tea. Rubs Tum.

4 Usual rule at BoP house. If we not got it, you not having it. As for sweets, did not succumb to ever shrinking tub. We have old decorative watering can, and get bags of sweets. Filled. Loaded. Makes good with guess work. Rubs Tum.

All last night's keystrikes went white, self-deleting erratically before my eyes. &utah thaw version of global warming. Posting impossible.

Anyway, it's now today so not 'Just in'. More 'should be out' - will be after this. More sprouts crackers to uplift ex emporium after !!!!-up. & was unaware. They advised, have refunded too. Excellent o-s JL service again.

    1. Big mthly mtg last night, Frith - 90 in attendance! Most unexpected. After state of current albion gumment gloom, excellent freshly mulled wine, munch and pertinent silly games. Much wit, laughter, good talk and big fun. Good for the soul.

    2. Fence fixing yesterday and what do I see? Rhubarb! Yup, one crown bursting has 7 babies, another with new leaf fully open, palm of hand size. Seriously wrong, but still intriguing.

    3. In spirit of not doing crimbo, as & no longer does, have found self doing a few things even so:-)

    4. Off somewhere of own choosing in middle of nowhere in a few days:-). People mean well, but & does not wish for substitute famberley times.

    5. The phantom re-writer is at work in town of Uni again. 'BAT_MAN STREET' has matching decal. where the 'E' used to be.

vjm - thought I'd try some dried cranberries and walnuts in recette this time, spray with edible gold. DD is right - def. a ganache consistency. v.v.rich.

bop - that's not a pud.sauce I've seen, but intend stealing it thenking hew. Really feel the tallisker or laphroaig[haven't decided which, have both]/brandy combo. will be delish
Raffles' embarrassment - it's always fault of 2-foots i.e.you and good Lady Bopsie. Prob. loading guilt, ahead of your joint gallivanting.

sparrer - ditto re: grox spends. Might pull that up on i-player if the rubber bands will stretch that far. Very much like the 'jumping daisies'. 'Cavaletti' jumps were proudly learnt from that year's Pat Smyth Annual, another crimbo regular. Made with old fenceposts, cornstalks etc. and baler twine. Still holds most of enzed together in genomic memory.

Do your best during another record-breaking hot December day+night - 14-19.2C & heard foretold this morn[so prob. wrong] & still needs hwbs.

So, it's not only warm in Oz, mhags. Trouble is, comes with rainy gales and gloomy grey here:-), not blue sky and sun, as dd will doubtless soon be telling you.

    Bons weekends everyone.
