mhags I am so sorry to hear your DD has been left high and dry but well done on a sterling job getting her sorted and settled from afar. We may complain about them but where would we be without the input of mothers? Wonderful people! Sounds like the other girl was just homesick, missing Christmas with family etc., hope your DD goes on to enjoy her travels, she'll be all the richer for the experience.
DFV death by Pat Val, oh what a way to go!
1. Time out from everything today, no housework, laundry, no nuthin thanks to the HA who are installing a new boiler, rad thermostats, etc., etc. Much as I regretted having to 'downsize' from my own home/business thanks to the 80's recession I'm so very fortunate to have these things paid for me.
2. Pre-C-word dinner with friends on Sunday, had the most delicious roast lamb, which I seldom buy for myself due to cost. After sharing tid-bits with others they wished they'd ordered it. Also got a 241 voucher so DD and I can eat there in Jan on one of our Tues shopping trips
3. Yesterday pulm exercise class to jolly C-word music thanks to physio's. Slow down girls, none of us can move that fast any more! Good fun trying though, more laughing at each others antics than working out. Took hm shortbread, coffee cake for a small get-together afterwards.
4. Shopping with DD, little to do as we've both finished the dreaded present stuff and I've paid for dinner which she'll cook. Went to a retail park so lunched in a burger place. Different. But cheap. Maybe try again another time - maybe.
5. I've had an invite to a rather posh party tomorrow, not really a great mixer but I'm quite looking forward to formal clothes again, it's ages since I had that pleasure. Luckily it's not going to cost anything, most of my long dresses have come round again in fashion, my hair's been cut and my nails being done by neighbour's DD. But Cinderella I will not be, I need my bed well before midnight!
6. As I've no water etc I need pop down to the local sm for some wee thing, if you get my meaning. Heard there's a lady there selling The Big Issue - first ever in our small town - 8 months pregnant and living temp accomm of a single bedroom with her 11 y/o. I remember how it was and the help I was given, so...
Have a good day, poorlies please get well, now and take care all0 -
Dear Frith,
Cranked this into working mode hoping to find better newboy news.
We're all saying same things, aren't we?
Early damage can leave non-salvageable behaviour probs in 4-foots, sometimes in 2-foots. With the latter, & has more dealings and if life is long enough:-), these are salvagable, not the applicable parallel here.
Given kennels' first response, I'm glad you'll have your sister with you when returning him. I've re-read their Adoption Policy and many get-out clauses thoroughly. PLEASE DON'T BE BULLIED.
Poor lad - if kennels must rely upon what previous unreliable owners may have said I can understand some of their chary language... and how many previous owners? How thorough that vet. exam was is not convincing.
His 'best face forward' may well have come from having his own cage space. Do you know how long he'd been with them? Something similar could be true, yet hidden, with all of those re-homing c.v.s.
All of us care about you and your household and I'm sure all of us know that somewhere, a good 4-foot fella longs for Family of Frith, even if not this chap. Don't be put off, please.
You also have that undercurrent at work again and you do not need the one colliding with the other. I'd love to think you could simply shake your head in an Oh Dearie Me! sort of way, smile back and say AUDIBLY[remember mhags' old advice to dd from a couple of years back?] 'Merry Christmas to you, too. Do you feel better now?'
#
Something of Frith's predicament carries over, mhags.
Nothing surer than that dd's friend will look back and regret her decision.
Was going to offer any help poss., but see all is in hand:-))) You'll all have a brilliant Christmas and Hogmanay North and South, 36 hot and cold hours long:-)

1. Made vjm's fudge, merci millefois, in fridge as we speak:-) Mr T moment[their 85% cocoa solids choc is excellent, currently £1] - 2 blocks needed, went through as 3. CS dtd refund meant 1 choc. gratuit)
2. Located one of these for a family nearby:

[but @£15 post-free]
Heard good sillies about it. And, as & knows and does, famberley box+1 or 2 friends excepted, crimbo is no longer 'done' by &.
3. We all know how bop adores his sprouts, or possibly the opposite:-)

- in enzed famberley box, still sitting here.
4. Rugby teatowels have had loads more washes on the line. Still there, still happening. Day of yuck again, observed from kitchen while eating scrummy new marmalade[clementines/cardomom/vanilla #32854]on seedy h-m toast. I liked using pestle and mortar on the cardomom pods. Something cathartic going on there.
5. Gloomsbury, love it, want to be in it))))))). But this was the last in series 3, last night.

Oh, &, I love the sprout crackers! As they're on offer I just had to buy some. My DD will think I'm nuts but I don't care a jot, the DGC will love them too! 2 boxes promised for before the Big Day
vjsm thanks from me also for the recipe, I bought the ing's for the micro fudge, looking forward to trying it tomorrow when the house is back to it's usual state of organised chaos.
Retired to bedroom as it's cold downstairs, nice to sit here all cosy with a cuppa. a slice of Stollen, albeit not as good as MrsLw's real thing, and listen to all the work going on down there.
Au revoir0 -

Dog went back at 10 this morning. That can go on my list of most horrible things I've ever had to do. :-(
The dog looked rather pleased as we drove through the gateway (of course, he behaved impeccably in the car!) and trotted off without a backward glance. He went straight to his old kennel, apparently.
The sofa throw and cushions are in the washing machine now. :-/
ETA - Ampersand - he'd been in the kennels for just over a year, from 7 months old. Re: work - I did tell boss what Mrs Know All said and boss said, "Hmm, very helpful!" Mrs KA has also undermined a much tougher colleague of mine...0 -
Oh Frith, things seem to be self-timing@&utah today for me to find new news from you.
So, fella has spent 2/3rds of his formative life in Kennels/'institutionalised', which proportion can only increase.
Can the word be spread via your own/family networks?[parents' Church? market/farm acquaintances?]
Well done for boss off-load. Reaction promising? Tone of voice?
Thought of other Squashers for Mrs KA, prob. not for posting here :-)CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

oh Frith so sorry to hear your doggy woes. It sounds like you have done your best and he's just not for your family please don't be put off but perhaps try a different kennels - they don't sound very professional and surely most decent kennels do a trial for the sake of the dog as well as the family involved ?
Please don't feel guilty - you have all given him 1-2-1 care and attention and invited him into your family it just wasn't meant to be on this occasion
Mhags - sorry to hear your DD has been left in the lurch by her "friend" but glad to hear she is continuing on herself and will still get to spend time with the family
Work just horrible this week - so I am finding some pleasures to cheer me up !
1. feeling much better
2. lots of chocolates at work
3. leave available so I have booked Friday off - tomorrow is now my last day and then have 2 weeks off
4. mum and dad have sent me a cheque for Christmas which will help pay for new garden fence needed after Xmas - was rather overwhelmed and had a long chat with DM on phone
5. looking forward to meal out with friends tomorrow evening

One snore night on the edge of SparraShire. Not inn Bedford the day!
BoPsie on tour next week. All hail the current BoPsie!
1 It is a wrap. 44k in detail. Words. No repeats. Kerchief. Cheque in post. Best is not lost over Christmas.
2 Nite, celebration biscuit, with some mead. You know BoP. Bread and pure unrefined dripping for the natives! Rubs Tum.
3 Just presentations left to do. Think, see rules elsewhere. BoP speaks good words! Job done.
4 Did anyone else for exciting things this day.
Forget the quality, feel the wait!0 -
Sorry, bopping inn again. Think sometimes, you can want to care, but it is not right. As hurt and previous can ruin your love. Better, that they don't suffer more.
Minds me of the visitation from the self anointed animal protectorate in years gone by. We had a couple of cats, and a few hanger ons. Needless to say, man from society turned up. To question why cats were sleeping in an old crisp box! He had been tipped off, and was rushing blood to his over egotistic head, and wanting his first conviction. Obviously, numerous cats sleeping rough, in crisp box, would secure him fame, fortune, and glory. He ventured inn, with local gendarmerie. He wanted to see what facility cats had, as he had been tipped, for greatness.
I showed him their food tray. Fresh. And supplies. And our cats bedding. Untouched the bedding. He warned me about reports of this inadequte box, cats were forced to sleep in, throw our, in the cold!
I showed the nosey Parker the flap, and said box, on porch. It was untouched, as cats had not feasted! I said come back later and judge for yourself. He was worried. It was never big enough. He coughed.
Later he returned. Ready with cuffs. A conviction surely would be coming? I took him to the rear. Cat basket, untouched! Food eaten. Water had been drunk. Then he looked at the box. It was full of cats. Some ours, some not! After nine were, he reckoned rescued were counted out, half asleep. He was ready to pounce. Accompanying him.
Alas, as he had retrieved the last cat from the box, their startled looks frowning, one by one, they clambered, jostled and moved back in. He gasped for air. Said nothing, and departed. The cats were happy. To this day, the Royal animal inspector is given short from BoP.
Sometimes. Whatever our want with paws, we neglect what we should do!0 -
Spot on, bop. Same for Mrs KA with Frith and Others better herded into same non-crisp category box.
It's what they're fit for.

Those animal peeps have not enjoyed squeaky clean press in latter times.
