SYA. Tut tut tut. Ibrufen. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Yous see, Mum BoP, RIP. She had big C. Now BoP gets bum checked every five years. Still every five years. Bin inn group for near twenty years. On last bum check, was told only 16 from original group not got big C. BoP in that number, hence every five years.
But I had to gave samples ripped from me bum bits, well the top bum bits. There was scare tissue. At the top end. Quack enquired as to whether BoP had taken an Ibrufen, some, say ten days earlier. Yep, just one. He lit up scar tissue. Looked like volcano. Ibrufen tablet passed all way through BoP, landed on top colon. Than dissolved into gut wall. Leaving mark. Only one mark.
Not had Ibrufen since. Ignore. Use dissolvable paracetamol. And fluid. And rest.0 -
Had an awful day of dealing with the fallout of an argument not of my own making at the weekend so I decided to make myself feel better by:
1) Hugging my kitten
2) wrapping up in my fluffy dressing gown
3) Enjoying a warm meal
4) Putting more decorations onto my Christmas tree
5) Spending a week's worth of grocery money on buying stuff for my local food bank - tins of fruit, veg, soup, rice pudding, meatballs, various beans, spaghetti, stollen, pasta, rice, potatoes, chocolate coins, oats, toothbrushes, toothpaste, nappies, wipes & cat food.“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A. Pleasures for today (Monday).
1) Bigger son went downstairs 6am-ish to find NO MESS!! He took dog out for a walk. No howling or noise of any kind overnight.
2) Rather miserable day at work including being undermined by the same person as last time... 4 days to go!
3) Got home to find the dog had managed to open the door from the living room to the rest of the house. How lovely. There were sweet potatoes everywhere and he'd tried to eat a cooking apple. He had pulled down oven gloves, coats, chewed the handle off my bag. The Flying Scotsman Hornby box is no more. The lava lamp is no longer full of liquid (no idea how he managed that as the top is still on!) A toilet roll shredded across the landing. And a nice wee on my quilt and on smaller son's quilt. Oh, and dozens of pieces of pink plastic that I just couldn't place. Until I found the rubber part of the sink plunger, with no handle left at all! He'd also eaten a kg bag of granola (my breakfast) which has probably done him no harm but his farts this evening have been evil. He'd taken down one photo frame (only one!) and it looked rather sinister to have my smiling family looking up with half
their frame chewed off.
Anyway! He's been out 3 times this evening and done 3 wees outside. He didn't like the hoover (his fault it was out!) so left me a little parcel to teach me about that.
4) Got round to buying dog insurance.
5) At least the house is tidy after having to be hoovered, steam mopped and new sheets put on. Smaller son is in bed in a sleeping bag as his quilt is in the washing machine now.
6) Went swimming with sons and brother but it was shut with a big sign saying mechanical failure. So we had our usual Christmas lights competition on the way home to see which side of the car passengers had most on their side of the road. It's a bit poor when there's a 2 miles stretch with no houses and rubbish lower down the valley where the left hand side people get the river and no houses at all.
7) Watched an old DIY SOS that I hadn't seen before.
8) In bed now ready for ISIHAC.0 -
Quick few from a very laid back day.
Made brownies whilst the day was still cool.

Made tuna pasta for late lunch.

The dog :-( He had already turned on smaller son a couple of times. This morning bigger son came in saying it had been impossible to walk him as he had attacked the lead. Came back to the usual mess. Tried to walk him and he attacked the lead, biting nearer and nearer to my hand until there was about 5cm of lead left. If I had let go, we were on the edge of a main road and he would have been killed.
He does not relax for one second. We have been taking it turns to sit on the sofa so he will stay on there for a bit. If you go somewhere and shut the door (e.g the loo), he messes right outside the door.
He had a snarling fit over a blanket, then a fit at smaller son over moving a cushion. Then I tried to take him for a walk this evening and he wrestled the harness from me and destroyed it. :-/ I couldn't get it off him, he was too angry.
He looks so unhappy all the time. I was actually in tears watching him rip his harness up. Everyone I ask says their dog never growls at them. My sister is going to phone the kennels tomorrow with a view to taking him back tomorrow night.
There are no pleasures for today. I'm really upset.0 -
Frith sending huge hugs to you, a difficult decision but you have to protect you and your boys. He sounds a very unhappy and troubled dog more than likely from possibly being previously ill treated.0

So my day began with messages from DD1 that her 'pal' is leaving her mid journey and returning to Australia. I have spent the day being very upset about this as it leaves my girl on her own . However, operation mammy went straight into full steam ahead, people called, emailed, messaged to let them know change of plans. DD will be home in Scotland on Saturday morning, will be picked up and loved and looked after by family and friends.
Seems my cousin will be getting a Christmas jumper meant for friend! I had sent some gifts for the girls to open in christmas day .
A day of much heat, to be hotter tomorrow and by the weekend to be absolutely roasting!
Call to friend in Sydney and good chat with her.
On phone to friend From home this morning when DD1 was messaging me, so she listened to my sobs and rants and raves and offered to pick up DD1 for me ,totally going out of her way /plans to do so .
Other friends offering to step in and help . Love my friends x
Went as far as local supermarket for mince and mushrooms. Have made lasagne for dinner.baking in an already baking hot kitchen!
Have a great day0 -
Dear Frith, much advice and sympathy on here re the dog. My experience was similar, a black lab who was quite the most disturbed dog of all the 12 I've owned. He was quiet at first no doubt because of the confusion of moving, within a couple of days he was so aggressive to my ex OH we were amazed as he's always wonderful with dogs, training etc. Sadly we had to make the decision to return him for fear of putting our 2 DD's in danger. It was the best decision we could have made, none of us walking round in trepidation of him throwing himself at the door as it opened, snarling at anything that moved when he didn't expect it, and so on.
If you do want to try a little longer with him he may be happier with his own space, a cage with the door left open and a familiar blanket, toys etc in with him, it would be his territory and no-one enters there! He could come and go as he pleases and feel secure.
As & suggested, training or socialising classes might help, but if he has got psychological issues they may refuse to accept him on their courses..
The comment " What a terrifying looking dog!" was crass. Certainly doesn't help your son's confidence walking him! I understand other owners moving their dogs away but only because Staffs have a (undeserved) reputation due to some owners lack of handling knowledge.
Certainly consider that hip. Other than a transplant there's really no cure for dysplasia which can be a life-long, expensive problem to have to live with. You have to be devoted to your dog to live with that, at the moment it's a bit early to say you are.
Good luck whatever you decide but do not feel guilty about taking him back. He's not your problem and it sounds very much like you've been 'sold a pup' - pun intended.0 -
Frith - how upsetting for you and your boys, it does sound like he's a very troubled little soul and it does make you wonder if all necessary checks were completed by the kennels before deeming him appropriate for re-homing? Some good advice from Sparrer re a cage etc, it's something I have always done with my pups, certainly to start with as it does give them the feeling of having a space that's all their own and the security that it brings.
Staffs are no more likely to be aggressive than any other dog but have had a bad press in the past purely because of what is humans have used them for, ALL dogs can get defensive in certain situations. Even my dear old lady, an 11 year old Lab can wrinkle her nose if for example she gets woken with a start and she is the softest dog going.
All that said, some little souls are too badly damaged, the least the kennels can do is take him back and try some behavioural therapy.
Love and hugs to you Frith x0
