Pleasures for today (Friday, hoorah!)
1) Surviving another day. A bit of a weird end to the day with the very first instance I've seen of someone just perhaps overstepping the mark with the discipline. :-/
2) Dog basket arrived in the post! Smaller son had a lie in it and looks the cat will be in it overnight.
3) Tasty tea of what was left in the cupboard - a mix of spaghetti and fusilli, a tin of chick peas and some tomatoes and cheese sauce! Made a pasta bake which was very tasty.
4) Lit the stove and was glad of it.
5) Thank you, Mr Sainsburys for calling at 9pm. Got enough for a fortnight now and I ordered the cat food incorrectly so we have about 80 tins. :-D
6) Lots of television watching in the warm - especially enjoyed I'm a Celebrity but also Gogglebox.
Busy day tomorrow as it is my only child free day until after Christmas. So basically everything has to be done!
Bigger son is doing his first paid day at work tomorrow, going to work on the estate with my brother and my dad. Think he'll need something very waterproof and a flask of hot chocolate, the weather has been shocking and the flood defences went up on Wednesday.0 -
Some pleasures for yesterday (Friday)
Decided to take the girls for an extra long walk round the fields first thing, lovely clear morning and enjoyed hearing all the bird song coming from the hedges.
Took a far few bits of stuff to the dump inc DM's old tv, they have a section for things to go for charity so de-cluttered a couple of old lamps.
Popped into farm shop on way home and picked up some of my favourite cheddar, so fresh bread and cheese for lunch.
DB's present arrived, lovely book about old ruins around the country and the walks you can take to get to them, sooo tempted to keep but will play nice.
Nice meal out with friends in the evening, much hilarity and reminiscing.0 -
Hullo! Oh good, you are still here. Things Happen, y'know?!
PK! Belated happy birthday (have still *more* cake?!) & wow both fence AND clean cooker! So impressed at all the paperwork hurdles you are clearing for dad. The correct amount of dark chocolate cheesecake is very tricky to estimate but my lads run on one bite short of upchuck...
mhagster - just reading November I can't see Mr WorkIdiot making it through to December. All UK Cards done? Awe! And yes, your boss rightly prizes you far above Idiot. Phew, but days off? Ah, no school uniform ironing - bliss! The first Mince Pie - yum! Australian Christmas Countdown - brilliant! Love it when trading standards agree with you & good luck with new sandals hunt. Gulp releasing DD into wild, but touching faith she has enough of your sense to survive.
Mrs LW what a rainbow - just Wow! Hadn't realised Leonburgers could be such a protective breed but hurrah new pup being introduced so matters start on the right paw! Well done to you & DD2 taking next steps.
BoP - photo of cake? I do love to hear your cooking.
Frith - Macbeth is splendid family viewing, if you like Gore. Enchanted by preparations for arrival of dog, not least son testing dogbed.
VJsmum - you are Allowed to be happy! Even faced with 18 photo albums. So long as DS Can Charm. Mine currently not bothering overmuch Anywhere.
DundeeDoll - you're over 50?! Never... Glitter poinsettia - well, it makes misunderstandings over edibility (toxic) less likely. "we never liked that porch" = *superb* reponse to dry rot! But cat...
LaineyT - that moon - just glorious! Friendly farrier a darn good start. Clear diagnosis & path forward for your boy - hurrah!
sparrer - very glad to have you back with us, & please recover in full?!
Skint yet Again- I can get youngest to agree & cooperate on Almost All points if bribed with pulled pork!
OS Pleasures recently
Nigella:"Now, has everyone got tentacles?" - Ye gods some programmes need to be watched carefully...
Having scrunched through snow, I think I can reasonably declare collard seed season closed, but I have the satisfaction of saving seed. The herb infused oil plans will have to wait for another season though!
Teaching the boars head carol to my son by call & response - fun & giggly as the errors in words & timing are merry foolish.
Someone's trying to sort their broadband out, but hasn't realised they're broadcasting it on the train tannoy. Ooops!
Huge pleasure that school presentation evening is in Formal dress for pupils & whatever's to hand for parents. Another son the Official Photographer so camera (& phone) optional!
Unexpected quotes "You'll struggle to find anyone here with a bad word for your lad" (brother snorts) & "I know the will of my people" from son...
Puttering around a shop & remembering I already have bought things, I just need to Find Them.
Listening to customer services & their good tempered charm in the face of idiot colleagues & yet more demanding customers. We discussed Black Friday - it's "unEnglish". "James Bond wouldn't do it." Truer words....
We dived off the Mway to get the lads fed. As they inhaled burgers I listened, charmed, to a young lady rehearsing her Nativity lines with her grandfather. Hearing her gave me a glorious huff of nostalgia with no transport or costuming or theological questions, just the concentration and satisfaction. I miss Nativity plays...
Photographed my grandmother's recipes for the young light-house-keeper (to use), and an Aunt's for Christmas Pud plus yet another aunt's haddock mousse! Family history & recognisable handwriting, bliss....
Mother teaching me her Working Family Recipe for Christmas Pud - take the shop bought works of Mrs Peak & Mrs Frean, crumble them into a bowl & add brandy to moisten - stir, wish, add sixpences & pack into bowls. (Sorry, BoP!)
Unpleasure - sitting waiting for overpriced meal as I didn't check & freak at the door as I should have done.
My son's delight in how the bubbles fizz in my lemonade - he thinks there must be a hole in the glass somewhere...
Well done the Murray lad! What a month he's in for, with the baby expected too...
Finding son listening to Vivaldi on YouTube! And pachelbel's canon - aww & slightly ulp as I think that's a wedding theme.
St.Andrews day & cute google doodle - planning haggis & mash for supper...
Grandparent musing on an electric car "but where would I put the cello"? Scapegrace grandson murmured "First World Problem..."
Waved to the tailor, got a wave back of equal gravitas and blessing as an early Pope's. Felt like a blessed lamb of the flock all day!
Eldest startled consultant by seeming to have grown considerably - he's been 5'10" long enough for the novelty to me to have worn off a little....
Caught up with an old Scout friend - not currently a well man, but very good to see him, hear him, hug him. I have not &'s hard-learned wisdom & support to comfort the afflicted, but I can hug for Britain.
If the penalty fit working late is listening to I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue, then I'll see less of my family & reckon it reasonable. Although the lovely Samantha was worryingly inert, those lovely young chaps (GG, TBT & BC) were still scalpel bright...
Parked in what appears to be becoming "my" slot in the carpark, the naughty corner - seems I'm one of few who are OK with precision reversing before 8am. The joys of serial Mondeo ownership include knowing exactly how to replace a tail light unit (not a skill recently required!)
I phone home to find out that in a currently showing science fiction program, a much loved actress is wearing tight leather & therefore promptly send them love & hugs & let them focus on her not my absence...
Blimey! Sandi Toksvig, desert island discs & just *wow* Poppa Toksvig. Ma T sounds pretty astounding too, & I grin hugely at Mrs T's robustly firm "no new ideas before the first cup of tea" policy... Chase it on iplayer - she's superb!
Blimey. Never seen a morning commuter train with the ticker "no alcohol to be consumed on train"...
A recently refurbished Ladies' has a sloped shelf rather than sinks. It works, but baffles slightly. I dimly wonder if an intoxicated Gent would find it more approachable!
I'm intrigued to find that in times of peace, tranquility & solitude, my fingers itch to knit, or sew, or create.
Splendid young mum on train draws our attention to smiling preverbal child & asks us to remember this when he starts yelling - wonderful wave of reassurance from all in line if sight!
Blimey but getting home is good. Putting toothbrush & hairbrush in the proper places. Laundry sorted. Expenses anticipated over nice cup of tea. Good times!
My own bed...
Huge hugs to all who need them, nice solid roofing in the face of all these high winds & may health strength & calm be yours in the coming weeks!0 -
1. Monday. Went to the cinema on half price day to see The Lady in the Van, it was a little slow but that's typical of Alan Bennett. Quite enjoyable in parts, and treated myself to an ice cream
2. Tuesday, DD and I went to Stevenage which was crazy, like a hangover from Black Friday. We did what we had to do then had a super, relaxed, excellent value carvery lunch. We always want pudding but are far to full!
3. Wednesday. Had my mane cut on reduced-for-ladies-of-a-certain-age-day. I can see now. A meeting in the evening to organise a post Christmas meal for the fellowship.
4. Thursday. Went to my exercise class for a breakfast meeting with several related organisations. Came home with lots of info and a full tummy after being served with a bacon roll and some delicious pastries
5. Friday. A no-go day, slept through most of it when I wasn't coughing but had a lovely phone call from DS. Always makes my day
6. Today, Saturday. Did a little bit of local shopping, kale, parsnip and 4 pints of skimmed milk for 9p each. The milk goes in the freezer in small containers, the parsnips also in the freezer, the kale has been turned into soup with some blue cheese. Got the C-word dec's out, some in the bin, some for the charity shop, the few that are left will be put up in a week or so.
Sweet dreams0 -
Quick pleasures for today. Pithered about ineffectually and got little done of what I wanted to do.
1) A lie in.
2) Bigger son had his first day at work! He got £25 :-)
3) Smaller son went to his father's.
4) I did a bit of Christmas shopping.
5) The car had its annual valet. It seriously looks a different colour :-/
6) Lots of TV watching.
7) Scampi and chips from the van.
8) Worked on my Sinter Klaas present for tomorrow. Not impressed this year but had no good idea.
9) The dog's Halti collar, lead and chew toy came through the post. :-)0 -
Evening all, Sunday evening and I've had a most pleasant day off , my last Sunday for a while so made the most of it.
Worked Saturday. My last shift with the @rse. Told boss that if he wasn't leaving I definitely would be. A man most horrid. Boss doesn't understand why I let him upset me....er...because he's rude, he's arrogant, he's a mysoginistic prat....I could go on but don't need to see him ever again.
A beautiful drive to work sun had just risen, birds were flitting in and out the trees,( there are so many trees over here) amazing jacaranda trees in bloom, wonderful, wonderful trees so purple. Hot air balloons so low in the sky.
Came home. It was so hot. OH, DD2 and I went into the city, we parked where it was free, walked through 2 parks and then a bit more and had a wander round Fed Square. The centre of the square has a Lego Christmas tree , rather fabulous. It's made from half a million Lego blocks.
We had some dinner in a restaurant overlooking the tree. It cooled down all rather pleasantly.
Walked back through the 2 parks and then home to bed.
Today , after a rather bad nights sleep, got up and phoned friend from home .
Dropped DD2 off at her work and the we went to a very rich part of the City , again, parked for free and walked down a big hill, I'd a croissant for breakfast. We then walked back up the hill and went to a Scandinavian christmas bazaar. I bought an advent candle , which I always had at home but I've never seen them out here. And another heart decoration for my tree. Lit a candle in the Swedish church .
Then a drive through the hills and stopped for a late lunch in a country town we like. I had soup.sat outside on verandah with cockatoos swooping and squawking in the eucalyptus trees. Lovely.
Just a day to work tomorrow then on 3 days off again...I can do it!
Enjoying my emails from DD1... Having her adventure,
Happy Sunday0 -
Greetings from my bed in my dads house where the quilt is a little too thin so i have been awake since 5.30. I may pop to Tosspots and buy a new one in readiness for next time.
Skint - hope you feel better soon - you too Sparrer
Mhags - glad the @rse has gone...
Yayy a post from DforV - always a pleasure.
Pleasures for last few
1. One of the big bosses came over to say sorry i was leaving but wishing me luck. The big big boss is avoiding me like the plague - coward... It doesn't take much to say a few nice words like the above.
2 Teaching was ok - not going to set the world alight, but I am not feeling it right now.
3. walks to and from station - in the dark which i love. Particuarly as it is so mild
4. chopped the christmas cake in half to marzipan and ice dads bit. I "may" have cut either side of a centre strip and I "may" have eaten some.... :rotfl:
5. Interesting circuitous train route to dads yesterday - largely to avoid replacement bus as i had a big heavy and, subsequently discovered, broken case full of presents. At least i got lots of work done.
6. Takeaway and glass of vino with dad last night.
Back home later but am meeting DD in London first to take her for Din Dins, work tomorrow followed by a trip to Ice Cream Town..:T
Have a good day allI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
... Pithered about ineffectually and got little done of what I wanted to do.Skint - hope you feel better soon - you too Sparrer
Thanks for the good wishes VJsmum but unfortunately it looks like I have developed a chest infection as well as laryngitis so I will be off to the Doc tomorrow
Am determined to find some pleasures -
1. the parcel I arranged to have re-delivered by Royal Mail as I was not home mid-week arrived at 8.30am - meaning I could go back to bed and doze off again - mind you I must have looked a fright to the postman in my jammies and dressing gown and hair sticking up everywhere
2. sausage sandwich for brunch
3. caught up on some recorded TV - am enjoying Jekyll and Hyde The Blacklist and Sleepy Hollow at the moment but How to Get Away with Murder is way too "dark" for me
4. afternoon nap
5. nice "chat" to DM on phone although a bit one sided as my voice has gone and I was coughing and spluttering throughoutbut still nice to hear what DP's have been up to over the last week since I last spoke to them
Another day of not doing much predicted for today, although DS insists he will get the xmas decs down from the loft and put them up. Going on previous years experience he will be bored after 30 minuteswe will see. Have a good sunday x

Ah so another movies gets through Rainbow Bridge. DfV. Live cooking coming soon! Yeah, BoP will be steaming!
5 Six more nights away. Then new roses. Bump! No more SparraShire, for a while!
4 PM2DD UTM. Monday night! Here goes!
3 Finally sorted link to website. More later!
2 Nites tea was Plaice pieces, game chips, peas and batten carrots. Some people call them Juliene carrots. You can buy bags inn emporium, for bucks, or as BoP does, buy three or four and chop them up himself. Two styles, batten or door stops. Nice in stew with dumpling. Still undecided about chromosome dinner. Cake and pud done. Whisky sauce. Should I put Brussels on?
Good to hear fathers lad is an orator as well.0
