Feeling bleugh! I know why but just wish I didn' tfeel so down as it makes me tired and grumpy and someone I don't like very much!! Also feeling desperate urge to run away and set up home somewhere completely different but I know I can't! So need to get some perspective and focus on pleasures - so pleasures for the weekend-

    1. Nice day at village fete that DS was doing cadet duties at on Sat

    2. Sunday - after an almost full on meltdown (as not allowed to play x box all day) we headed to North Wales to Walk to Aber Falls - what amazing scenery and kids loved playing in the clear running water - fantastic day

    3. DD3 off on school residential - she was so excited and its nice to see her growing up!

    4. DD2 back from travels to Ireland safe and sound - seems like she had a good time

    5. Gardening volunteers at work doing a fantastic job - had to stop and smell the roses on my way past this morning - real significance in that!!!

    Morning all

Mrs LW - I love Alpacas. OH won't let me have some, which is mean :p
Judi - I also love Aber falls, my DD had a full on stroppy meltdown there once :rotfl: But it was about not wanting to walk, not Xbox
marmiterules - was watching the tennis in a sportsbar here in HK. I couldn't help but notice how much Wawrinka looks like John Finnemore (of cabin pressure fame). John Finnemore (via twitter) has also just noticed this :rotfl:

    Pleasures for yesterday

    1. Did some fire prevention rather than fire fighting regarding work :T
    2. Went for a walk with colleague / boss and had lunch. Went to HK island by Ferry (cost of about 20p) and the central mid levels escalators - a superb idea where you travel up the hill on escalators. In the morning they travel downwards, in the evening upwards to help get people to work
    3. Very warm and sunny again - and humid. Still no sign of the rain I was told would be here. Forecast today though
    4. Chaired a board of studies (opportunity for students and staff to discuss modules and air grievances). haven't chaired one for years but it went well. Last time the students merely said how good everything was, (i was an observer), but that isn't very helpful. This time we got some good stuff come out and areas for improvement.
    5. Boss and i went for dinner at a rather nice italian. Had sea bass on a bed of spinach, fish had slices of potato to look like scales :D

    Have a good day all.
I wanna be in the room where it happens

Evening all...sun is just setting and the sky is a very pretty colour of lilacs and greys with a smudge of orange. We've had a nice day , chilly but the sun was shining for a bit this afternoon.

Today I phoned friend from home, then took DD2 to school in my jammies....I had never in my life driven anywhere in my jammies! However, it takes all of 90 seconds to drop her off , 3 mini roundabouts to drive through and same on way back...no accidents occurred and I was not shamed!

Moved furniture around, found 3 balls and a little pottery bowl that Haggis found in the garden when he was a little boy and claimed as his, he was delighted to be reunited with it! They had rolled under a low chest that I moved from one side of the room to the other.

Changed curtains in front room. Last year I bought heavy silk curtains from Salvos but they had the most awful gold blackout lining that was visible from outside. I'd rehung them a few weeks ago but wasn't really happy about them anyway today I took them down ( have re- donated them to Salvos) and replaced them with my curtains from home, these were from a huge window we had in our living room and I had them made. I ( stupidly) cut one in half and instantly regretted it anyway, they are now in place and look so much better than the silk ones.

Donated 2 teddy bear teapots I had that were gathering dust, ( washed the dust of them first :))and a wicker basket. Then saw a little wall plaque with a folk art design and hooks in the window of one of the other op shops. So a few things out and another in ...hmmm!

DD1 and I went for some lunch at local cafe, had the usual pumpkin tart.met a friend from PTA which was nice to see her and have a quick catch up as I missed the last meeting.

Then it was time to pick up a sofa at Salvos, between me and DS and DD1 we got it home. It's in the dining room at the moment but may not stay there . I shall just say that as its cream and the dog is brown and had muddy paws after a walk with DS ....the two don't mix! The sofas in family room are also chocolate brown....so not so noticeable if he gets on them!

OH was very unwell this morning, this really upset me as we have been progressing slowly but surely. It was a bit of a shock and a reminder that he's still very poorly. However , we have hospital tomorrow so can have a chat with doctors.

Received some nice cards today from UK, post takes ages. I think people have struggled this time with OH having cancer again. They don't know what to say so don't say anything, ....if you don't know what to say ....just say I'm sorry I don't have words but I'm thinking of you.....don't say nothing. I have found that very hard this time. Anyway, it was lovely to get these cards and the notes inside them.

I've ordered takeway for dinner for me and kids , I could cook but can't be bothered really. I've spent all weekend cooking for others. This will last us 2 dinners.

Mrs LW I'm sorry to read about Docky, I thought I must have missed it here but read back and saw it on another thread. Sad days but hopefully you have many, many happy memories to look back on.

Have a happy Tuesday :) ( I've thought it was Monday all day as it was a public holiday yesterday and I'm slightly confused!

DundeeDoll - Freddo frogs live short anxious lives around my lads. Awed at the h2only ongoing!
Frith - covet pigs as earth movers & diggers. (Sons much more hassle IMHO.) Higgidy pie sounds glorious!
mcculloch - middle names changes? Agree, there's a Story hidden there!
MrsLurcherWalker - love "bargainous"! Alpacas are glorious - a sunlit riverside walk with them sounds very special.
Purplekitten - all best versus bug.
    sparrer - Croatia? Wonderful!
VJsmum - "mucky fat" sounds dreadful, although I notice it has All Gone Already... Golly that sea bass sounds spectacular!
mhagster - hoping sofa finds the perfect recovery/ snoozette site! So sorry to hear of the incoming silence but amidst the racket, I keep on thinking of you & your family.
kittikins - worry not, Saxon clothing is very non-time specific - it's the decoration that dates it. Accessorise & enjoy!
    VickyA - Happy Birthday Mr.VickyA - enjoy the jelly & pass-the-parcel...
judi - well done Making Time to smell the roses!

    OS Pleasures recently
A child's Duckula mug is delighting The Candidate. (Last week's egg cup was appropriated with unexpected glee.) Perhaps carboots are not the cold wet boring trudges of misery he thinks... And "Duckula could thrash Edward's glittering backside" - a concept that, if repeated, will disconcert tomorrow's Maths marking team something wicked.

A smashing gent, with an emphatic preference for Yorkshire Tea over English Breakfast, sold me two empty tins & a Tri-ang controller. Youngest & I may get the Cornish Belle back on track yet... Never having had a toy train (daughters), I'm intrigued by the (still sizeist) alternative universe.

All this sunshine! With my fate sealed & kit prepared, I was able to go dryad (barefoot on green grass) again at mother-in-law's, observing lads relocating roses to shield them from harm & myself relocating a forget-me-not similarly.

Greater love hath no mother that she buy Call of Duty for her child based on his assertion that it triggers his convulsions. (This is what the medics will be wanting, post-exam season, and will only work on my near-vintage Nintendo.) Still hoping I do not end up berating myself vehemently.

It seems West Yorkshire refuses to pay for cod & so it's haddock & chips or nothing. Himself is now proven safe back home in Lancashire & a roundly happy man. Whose youngest has tidied away all the remaining chips.

"Lean back under a tree, put your arms behind your head, wonder at the pass we’ve come to, smile and remember that the beginnings and ends of man’s every great enterprise are untidy." Sebastian de Grazia, author of 'Of Time, Work, and Leisure'. Clearly, I live surrounded by great enterprises...

Big hugs to all who need them, sunhats fleeces and all needful for changeable weather comfort likewise, and good teachers are worth their weight in *rubies*. Which I can't afford, so cherish them with brews instead.
  • MHAGS thank you, we miss the lad very much and are completely out of routine, we'll get used to it but life is odd at present!

    1) a surprise trip out with a kind friend who didn't mention dogs and did make me laugh, thank heavens for Sue!!!

    2) a lovely walk this afternoon down beside the church, along the lanes, past the nature reserve and then back along the river to the village with He Who Knows.

    3) we saw and heard two skylarks, haven't seen larks for years and there was one hanging in the sky singing its little heart out and gradually descending downwards, magic.

    4) we sat beside the pond on the nature reserve and watched the swifts and house martins hawking for insects, there were a pair of mute swans with cygnets, half a dozen shelducks doing handstands(well!) and dabbling tails up in the pond, many assorted gulls and waders all doing thier own thing on the margins too, lovely.

    5) as we walked up the river a beautiful old fishing boat came up the river and passed us, it had those lovely oldfashioned rust red sails and she slowed as she got level with us and they furled the sails and then continued up the river under motor power, lovely old lady she was.
