so made some leek swede and potato soup for dinner
today was waiting for new fridge to be delivered as arranged with c***ys to have phone call saying van broke down and have to sort out another day:mad:
so went to bootsale and bought two little vintage glass jellymoulds for £1.00
roast chicken for dinner yum
no work for next week as half term:D0 -
BoP - your posts always make me feel so hungry!
village life - so sorry to hear of your loss.
Some pleasures for today:
1) Very long lie-in, despite Isis' best efforts to get me up.
2) Yellow stuff galore.
3) My favourite Sunday brunch - smoked salmon on seedy bread.
4) Isis snoring on her beanbag by the radiator- so cute!
5) Dinner will be chicken Kiev, chips and baked beans. I do love the occasional orange meal!Back after a very long break!0 -
Mr Sod has been making His Laws again in &world. Just limped in with mangled offside front tyre, which sees off yesterday's...
Pleasure no.1.
When & drew 'ITA 8' from The Alma's '1st try+player' tankard before albion vs azzurri, well- 'they came to jeer but stayed to cheer.' There was general 'Oh NOOOO' to any poor sod with ITA player.
& said 8 was her lucky no. of choice...and then realised 8 is bonus Big Boy Paresi[a good 'un even in World XV terms], which was luverley, as was that 1st try:-)))
& £30 to the good amid rowdy Alma-wide good-natured disbelief and huge hugs/pics from patron D.
2. 'Excuse me, I think these are yours.' Et oui, &'s glubs had eased from poche on free bus ride back to &obile. Hugged him with Thankyou's and he was unembarrassed. Speaker was 9, & learnt, so that was quite something. Told him hug passed on was actually from chap in emporium the previous day, who upped and orfed, leaving i-phone on table. So purposeful was he, I'd been sure it was but a brief sortie for Forgotten Item. But no, he was leaving check-out when & caught up, restored said obj!t. 'I'll pass it on to someone who does something nice to me' said boy 'I bet it won't be my sister....'
But 2 lovely man hugs, all the same...more than a dozen, if we add The Alma-)
3. Dusk ce soir - 3 deer on outward stomp, 2 more on way back[certainly last time's same 5] bounding, checking, running right across my path, long 40secs easily, within 10 metres both times. Much much bigger close to than previously thought. &'s shoulder height for sure and the trio leader roll-called back to both followers, who made little cough-bark answers. Brief whiff of horse-backy livestock.....& lurves. Camera back in bag in car, of course. But so? That lack never un-happens any Memory Bank happening.
4. Slowly leaning into grauniad, this will hit the spot with many hereon:
http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2015/feb/14/archers-fans-angry-modern-tribes-catherine-bennett
Good Head Girl speak and CORRECT in dark plotting thesis.
5. Medics refused 4 more callouts chez person of &posts passim yesterday, but one was there as & rtnd last night. As usual, all checks done kindly; nothing more TO be done. So, &>Lenten countdown at HC/0800h felt needful, then back>Morning Prayer@11, dkw, both intervals until late afternoon spent defusing, dispersing the s-word while absorbing it, but couldn't deflect further 999 calls. Spoke with them reluctantly, & being merely & and nothing more in a 'watch' pastoral situ. Person doesn't let & go throughout. Ambulance promised 'as soon as we can,' which is never enough for person, who doesn't want hospital. High praise for this NHS - steady, clear, patient, gentle, but necessarily persistent, when answers='I'm so ill' rptdly. Pray to whoever you choose to Save EVERYONE'S kind of NHS from persistent, deliberate, by stealth, by boast, gumment shafting.
VOTE FOR IT.

brrrr it's been cold in Dundee today. Now under the duvet, catching up on wolf hall. will watch episode 3 then walk dogs then make a cuppa then dive back under
1) lovely breakfast of bacon, tomato, lo pots and mushrooms.
2) scouts pace to cathedral saving on bus fare
3) after church, lunch at pub then to irish friend's to watch the rugger. as we were both supporting scotland we drank edinburgh gin and tonic
4) decided to treat myself to a bus trip home and found a big issue in which there was an ISA leaflet. i do need to start saving again, and probably need to get financial advice. xoh is spending more and more time with the bf so i guess i need to be prepared.
5) finished 'housekeeping' by marilynne robinson. cant say i got into it at all but a) it's next book club book and b) it's from the library so didn't cost me owt.MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

& Is it right that nearly 21 years after my degree, I still got 20/20
1. Cuddles a-plenty with DD
2. Half term, yippee!!
3. Going to Hampton Court with her tomorrow, can't wait. Haven't been there since I was her age.
4. Due to major issues with DD's school, I have made the enormous decision to send her to a lovely independent school (the one I spent a happy fortnight at before my training). She is happy with the idea - especially after her visit to the school and seeing not only the gorgeous library, but also the science labs!
5. My parents - for accepting that we will now be living with them probably until DD is at least 16!
6. Tickets for HC bought online - v. MS!
7. I've nearly finished inputting data that is due in tomorrow.
8. Had a great time helping at the school disco on Friday - although I did feel properly old, as I didn't recognise most of the tunes played!0 -
Evening all
Today's pleasures:
1 - Nice relaxed day. Not feeling as bad as this morning so hope it's done
the trick.
2 - Watching the rugby. Made for some good banter as OH is Welsh and I'm
Scottish.
3 - Yummy corned beef hash for dinner.
4 - Meal planned and did an online shop. This is a pleasure as it's definitely
help me spend less and eat better.
5 - Chat with family around what we are giving up for Lent. We've all made
tough choices again so hope we can be strong.0 -
Absolutely spot on & about NHS and saving it! We are heading for a national disaster if we don't do something soon!!! Its a black place - but do you know what's interesting? (to me anyway!) that many frontline NHS staff are pulling together against all odds! Its like a war situation! Supporting each other to try to do their best (always an exception to the rule I know!) but its a very harsh environment out there for sick people! (read local hospitals new eviction notices for patients classed as medically fit the other day! Horrified is the term I would use to describe my reaction!) - Steps off soap box and get on with my 5!
1. Cake maker friends hubby came to the rescue and brought me letter moulds to finish cake :T
2. Cake went down well - looked and tasted good!!! Better than paying £50 for someone else to make! (enjoyed doing it too!)
3. Birds tweeting in tree outside bedroom window this morning- first time I have heard them this year - must be nearly spring (and still haven't had tree trimmed - going to be too late soon if birdies nesting!!!)
4. Call the midwife with DD3 - enough said!
5. Only 1 day in work this week!:j0 -
Gah, lost yet another post.
Pleasures for today:
1) A lie in.
2) Builder returned to fit fireplace and put curtain pole up for me.
3) Wasn't sure I liked the curtains (from Laura Ashley sale) but they've grown on me as the day has gone on!
4) Went to mum and dad's to borrow their superior hoover for the post plastering tidy up.
5) A day with no painting - hoorah!
6) Got Skype working yesterday so have been chatting to smaller son on and off all day.0 -

Up late meditating on garden plans. Nothing on paper yet!
BoP - thanks for the reassurance the time to age a stew or curry is time well spent. In matters of taste (eg broad beans) I am to be found hiding under the table. Hear hear shrewd timing to optimise fun per penny - sons born to make most of January & Spring sales. S offered you nicer vouchers *and* they let their petrol price sneak up a bit. Snorkers a grand start to a day & Lemon tart sounds glorious. How come just looking at your pics makes me put on a dress size?
Frith - stacking a tonne of logs sounds blooming aerobic. Ah yes, high volume happiness...
CCP - when you "lift the bonnet" on e-readers, they all run on files. It's usually pretty easy to figure where to drop new ones in, & wherever Intellectual Property Rights are not enforced vigorously, you can often buy a disk with a collection of books on. Soup & pudding night sounds wonderful. (Youngest & I have a special soup-based relationship not shared with other siblings.) The occasional orange meal can only be good for you!
ampersand - why did you correct that record? I'd have kept it, & had something to chuckle at with every bill. Can *see* the squirrels, such vivid description! Laud your call to discuss the discovered gorgeous blokes with their guardian. Typos in a Persephone publication?! Tush tush. Blast the tyre, but hurrah the Alma & the deer. Hurchers sliding & hear hear on NHS. Splendid folks. Love the french slang quiz!
judi - like your tutor's style! All best with dissertation idea (no prodding, let it grow!) & aw DD3 aglow with London. DS called & retrieved his own PE kit? Awed! Found chocolate becomes choc chip cookies? Not wolfed on the spot? Lucky family! Hurrah the cake, all the effort fully rewarded - very pleased for you.
Giddynmg - the special necklace sounds a very special pleasure. Thirds of jambalaya - it must be good! Corned beef hash is one of my easy-to-bribe-with dishes... All strength with Lent!
VickyA - clean bedding! Bliss!
VJsmum - I do worryingly little with the dehydrator, but where there's a glut, if I can't preserve it in kilner, I can try dehydrating. Well done getting a grin out of a session with Mr.Professional Depressive! That is a stonking Line of the Day! You also tap?! Freezer surprise for one sounds utterly scrumptious, almost worth marking for!
Purple kitten - lamb casserole? <whimpers quietly with envy> So impressed by the side effects of redecorating! Some days rain means we're heading towards planting season.
sparrer - A Whole Length?! Already?! <beams with vicarious pride> Rainbow bridge a wonderful book. Regret MS Circus not your cup of tea, but some experiences have to be tried. Hope ticket fuss worth the show?
mhagster - eeep spiderwebs! Broken fridge? Yikes, so not good. Labyrinthitis even worse - very glad you can spot the preliminaries & that you have a day off to take things gently in. (Though I suspect you may/[did] not.) Well done DD2 settling in so well! That brooch is adorable - absolutely understand DD1 buying several! The heat! Aw Haggis & rawhide bone!
villagelife - ow. Even the right decision hurts. Big hugs & soft absorbent handkerchiefs. Glad your chickens are fun to watch & hope seeds thrive even without 4paw guardian.
Skint yet Again - thyroiditis sounds rough but chicken & chips sounds restorative. Chicken soup at some stage? For a day fuzzed on painkillers those are lovely sunday pleasures!
DundeeDoll - hurrah email trail proves you blameless & well done wrestling with visas & immigration! "need to start saving again" - um, yes. Sorry, but the rainy day/nasty shock/expected financial ding might come at any time & with my luck the Rapture will be afterwards.
greywitch - well done in the allotment & isn't half term a pleasure - all those lie-ins!
kittikins - Hampton Court is glorious. Keep an eye out for the leather-machee ceiling mouldings! Sorry there have been issues with DD's school but hurrah that there is an alternative and that she is keen to jump!
OS Pleasures recently
Car sick son, clutching bag & tissues, managed to wait for a party of lasses from his school to gaggle out of sight & sound before achieving digestive relief whilst retaining shreds of young male dignity.
Excavating propagator trays from the heap & pondering what to start. I'd like to get nasturtiums going but there may be other plants my family would like too!
When my hand is better (still duff after the December gardening) I have four pretty summer frocks to convert to shopping bags. (All charity shop finds bought for aesthetic fabric & generous skirting.)
The Euro rate means Himself now has a US Dutch Oven thermometer from a French supplier & is carrying on like a pup owth two tails.
The aversion therapy continues. Son slurped from the bottle of Newcastle Brown (*before* they change the recipe to please the Americans) & promptly commented "eww that's nasty". Love that inflection!
Finally got to the Monuments Men & Himself is to be heard crooning happily that sundry articles of kit have been properly blanco-ed... (Ordinarily he hisses over The Wrong Kit, or weapons-spots during SF films - he is not easy to watch films with!)
"Family shop" across Lidl, b&m, Tesco & Asda. I *think* we saved money but not as in one cheap shop more as in needs wants & futures laid in. Oh & lifting youngest to reach top shelf definitely not a trick I mean to repeat. When he was five, yes. Fun! Eyeballing thirteen, not so much.
Sat with my seed stash, packets spread out around me like a demented tarot layout. So many good memories, as well as hopes, in these packets.
Big hugs to all who need them, courage strength healing & hot water bottles right alongside & the earth will be warm enough soon...0
