    Hi Everyone,

I am absolutely shattered today and was slightly relieved when KiwiBoy called to cancel our date tonight... though I am disappointed I am not sure I would have been much fun!

    1) Posted off a eBay sale...

    2) Made a batch of potato and leek/ onion soup... it was rather yuck to start with, but I have managed to retrieve it. A little annoyed the seal on the liquidiser wasn't quite sealed and leaked a lot of liquid all over the floor... oh well.

    3) I'm going to crack open the bottle of champagne that I was given at work the other day and drink it in the bath... pure decadence but I need it!

    4) NSD - because I parked a little way from the post office so that I didn't have to pay for parking so I got a little walk as well. I also went straight to the PO and was not tempted by any of the other shops

    5) Listening to the radio - they are having an Americana weekend so are playing a lot of my favourites... White Stripes, Pixies, Pearl Jam, REM... though they haven't play my requests :(

Anyway have a good week everyone and looking forward to catching up on your news when I get back from my conference in Telford.

    Afternoon all.

It's been a miserable old day today - I debated with myself for some time over whether to make use of the voucher for free entry to a National Trust property and eventually decided to go. I think it was the wrong decision - I got very wet and very cold (I'm currently wrapped in two jumpers and a fleece blanket and still can't stop shivering) and the place wasn't even particularly interesting. :(

I just hope everyone else had a better day!

Ollie - :T:T:T on your award. WD on scrounging free danishes, to - it sounds like you need to make the most of it if you usually just get fruit. (As a cost cutting measure, we don't now get anything in our meetings - if we want refreshments we have to make them ourselves. :( The senior staff still get cakes though, which is double :(.)

savingforoz - I'm glad Gizmo's OK - that must be such a relief for you.

katholicos - are the ones that have taken off rocket seeds, by any chance? (Sorry. :o) I'm glad some of your seeds have come up - I'm going to try and get mine in tomorrow, if it's not too wet and cold (the seeds might not mind, but I certainly would!)

jexygirl - congrats on your hamper win, and :p at your comment about the quiz. ;):)

house elf - well done on your sports relief walk. :T

ACEY - poor you at the hospital. Even the thought makes me _pale_. I hope everything went OK at the contact centre today.

Ladyhawk - enjoy your champagne and bath - it sounds to me like you need and deserve it. I hope your conference goes well.

    My five for today:

    1) Free entry at a NT property. OK, it wasn't terribly interesting, but it was still a free day out.

    2) Afterwards I popped into a pub for lunch, and had a very nice free range sausage sandwich and chips. It wasn't cheap, but I probably won't need dinner tonight as it was so filling.

    3) Getting home, changing out of my wet, muddy jeans, and sitting down in the warm with a cup of coffee.

    4) The daffodils I bought yesterday are out already. (And I'd never realised before that daffodils make a noise when they're opening. Several of them 'popped' open in the middle of the night, and scared the life out of me! :o)

    5) There's a song thrush singing outside my flat as I type. That's such a rare pleasure, these days. :)

    Have a nice evening, everyone.
Back after a very long break!

It's been a while, but I've really got to start thinking about things a bit more carefully. I've gone a bit off the beaten track (read, a lot) and as a result I've not been around. I'm hoping that by posting here a bit more regularly I can manage to stop spending on pointless frivolities and save as much money as I used to do. So, I thought I'd start by doing some OSly pleasures:

    1) Getting all the ironing done. I don't feel positive about it, just relieved. At least I don't have to do it later in the week.
    2) Having a tidy up in the kitchen and the bathroom.
    3) Sending an email to my friends with my mealplan to try and help motivate them.
    4) Making a pie.
    5) Doing a bit on the Wii Fit this morning.

    That's all. Thanks everyone.
Trying for daily wins, and a little security in an insecure world.

Evening all, well done ollie on your voucher prize, hope you've got something exciting planned to spend them all....I'd always plan to buy myself a new wardrobe or something frivolous, but then spend them on DD, it's much easier to buy things for her than it is me!

    1. A lovely freecycler gave me a bin liner full of gorgeous, mainly N£xt clothes for DD, just finished washing and drying and they're the kind of clothes I'd always like to buy but would put back on the shelf to find something cheaper or more likely to go with everything else, so it's wonderful to have them :)

    2. I had a great night out at the quiz last night, our team was so funny and we came a respectable middle of the pack. It was also nice and cheap as we all took our own vino, and had already paid for dinner in the cost of the ticket. Yay!

    3. DD had a sleepover at her best friend's last night down the road so I was able to stay out late and have a bit of a lie in and a soak in the bath this morning. I'm glad I rarely drink as this is the 2nd Saturday I've been a bit delicate and I really don't like the feeling.....

    4. Thankfully, however, DD had had lots of fun and a bit of a late night (I'm sure it wasn't midnight as she told me, lol) so after doing some crafty stuff and helping me grind cardamon seeds (I couldn't find ground in the supermaket, so had to bash up pods and do it myself), we both went up to bed for a nice long nap this afternoon.

    5. Am half way through making Swedish cinnamon/cardamon rolls for the first time. We LOVE them with a passion in this house so I hope they turn out delicious.

    6. My 13th NSD of the year - I know, I know, some people knock that out in 15 days every month, but I seem to be addicted to supermarkets!! *sigh*

    7. Picked a daffodil from the front patch for DD, she was so thrilled :)

UPDATE: The buns are amazing, I'm just testing one for quality control purposes , but hopefully DD will love them as much as me :):)

    Evening all

Another day of being tired for me due to a very drunk sil phoning at midnight but it was nice to speak to her! I usually dont have my phone with me at night but as dh is away I tend to keep it beside me all the time, and then dd up in night with earache!

Ollie - well done on the award :T

Jexy - How brilliant winning a hamper. Oh, and I nicked the name fakeout off my mate!! :p

    Mine for today:

1 a much needed lie in even though it wasnt very long until I was woken up by ds1 singing outside my bedroom door!!

2 Sausage and bacon rolls for breakfast

3 As it rained ALL day I let the kids choose the veg they want to plant and we planted the seeds in pots so hopefully by the time they have grown we will have dug the garden!!

4 An afternoon of crochet cuddled up on sofa with dd

5 a few loads of washing done so the house smells like the tropical fabric conditioner that i used!! :rotfl:

    have a great evening everyone

    Well done, Ollie!

Better get the bad news over first, I think. Mum and I took the boys to the contact centre. Afterwards, it seemed to have gone well and they are looking forward to going again next time. Dropped mum off at her house and, as I drove off again, bigger son said (and I quote) "Why did Daddy try to commit suicide? Will he kill himself like C's Dad?" (boy in his class). Well, what a lovely topic to chat about with your 9 year old after a 6 week break! Why couldn't he just have a nice chat and play with the toys with them??

    Anyway, 5 for today...

    1) Got woken up to 2 boiled eggs and soldiers. :-) Bigger son has become obsessed with cooking over the past few weeks, even making drinks and peeling things makes him happy!

    2) Had a quiet morning, playing on the PC with smaller son and watching bigger son do some drawings.

    3) Took mum to B and Q whilst the boys were at the contact centre and she got her bathroom paint so I can paint their bathroom and loo while they're away for a few days later this month.

    4) Got the Guardian and there's a few booklet about pets.

    5) Feeling better today.

    6) Had a quite nice tea of lasagne, green beans and we made our own garlic bread. OK, it was brown sliced but worked surprisingly well!

    Hi all

    Ollie
, warmest congratulations on your work award, hope you have fun spending the win!

Thank you everybody for kind words about the birth (Nicksyg, the baby belongs to a mum I supported in childbirth as a birth partner, I was on call for what seems an eternity!) and for the good wishes for the quiz. Jexy, we did miss first prize by 2 points, after all, but got a better prize, see below!

    Update pleasure for yesterday:

The quiz was fantastic, a team of 5 (DH, DD, her BF, another friend, me). Lovely vegan food and very nice atmosphere. We had a really fun time and laughed a lot. We came second, but the second prize was better than the first! First prize was a free meal at the cafe where the quiz was held, which would have meant having to travel back there soon - it is very far from where we live, so just as well we did not win that.

BUT: the second price was a spectacularly lovely looking vegan apple strudel cake, gorgeous tasting too. Much better than a meal there as we could take it away with us! The only sad bit is that we hadn't realised that it contained walnuts and when DD's BF ate some he did not feel very well (he has a slight allergy to walnuts) and so he could not have any more cake. Luckily he is ok now.

Ok, here are mine for today:

1 - Breakfast with DH and my friend, who came to visit. She is also a doula ( but she is full time) and I had an opportunity to debrief my experience of the birth with her and I feel better now. When a woman does not have the birth she hopes for I always feel a bit responsible, as if I hadn't done enough to make it happen, I know it is irrational but that is why a good debrief with a colleague is very useful.

2 - After breakfast and debrief we just lazed about drinking tea and putting the world to rights.

3 - Lunch with Savingforoz who is in London to see some friends. We nearly missed this because of the uncertaintly about dates for baby, but it worked well and it was great to be able to chat about our lives over a nice Chinese meal in Soho!

4 - After lunch I went to John Lewis to get a gift for the baby and some control underwear to wear under the nice dress I got a few weeks ago, for tomorrow's party (friend's 60th in a nice Italian restaurant). Hopefully I shall manage to breath, that thing (the control underwear, not the dress) is TIGHT!!!

5 - I met someone I had not seen for a good decade at least, who I used to know when we both home-educated our kids. Her kid is now 30!!! We reminsced (like the old ladies that we have become LOL).

6 - In Soho, in a lovely old-fashioned Italian food shop (Lina Stores) I found that they sell my favourite soup pasta (grattini) and I bought 4 packets, two for my family and two for the woman who just had the baby, as it happes to be her favourite too.

7 - Back home, grattini and peas soup for dinner, bliss!

    Good night everybody xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

A very quiet day today so was able to do some odd jobs I've been putting off
    My 5 -
    1. Emptying all the waste paper bins/baskets and giving them a good clean
    2. Doing some hand washing to try to keep the laundry basket down - I'm so messy, I always soak myself as well as well :o
    3. Making a stir fry from odds and ends, it was really tasty and cleared a few bits from the fridge
    4. a nsd
    5. Realising this afternoon that I haven't had the heating on for 3 days, thanks to the milder weather. Long may it last :)

    Night night (((everyone))) sleepy tight
