5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Hello All,
Thanks for the good wishes for Sport Relief Mile! :jIt was a lovely morning, so I was able to wear my jacket round my waist. Very important for disguising 'hippo' rear view!:rotfl:Kids enjoyed it...... well enjoyed moaning about it anyway!
Ollie - It would be lovely to be compared to John Alderton in 'Please Sir'. Just don't make me wear the tweed jackets!
5 for today
1. Sport Relief Mile in the sunshine.
2. HM LO stew for lunch. Despite several interruptions to break up fights!
3. PE teacher took my group bowling this afternoon, so I caught up on some work. Swapped her some resources, but still feel I owe her a big favour!
4. House to myself when I got home. It's never quiet in our house, so lazed around doing research on the laptop until DS1 phoned for lift home. Should have done some housework. but the silence was lovely.
5. YS Fish and Bubble & Squeak for tea. DH does not like fish, but as he is at his DM's being fed lots of low fat healthy food from M&S, (we've given up trying to tell her about additives), I thought I would have a little treat. He's going to love the smell when he gets home.:D
Feel ready to tidy up now....lets get the vacuum out and annoy DS2:D
Happy Friday! HE x0 -
Evening all,
So that's friday done and dusted and I am up to 62 hours work this week. I have to write a presentation tomorrow (slides are done I just have to think what to say) and then drive up to Telford on sunday to set up the conference venue and reherse the presentation... I reckon I will be over 70 hours this week... I made sure that both my line manager and my boss are aware of this!!! I am going to sign my contract afterall, though have written to the Head of HR explaining the situation. Hopefully in the long run it will pay off for me, especially since I have just asked for the pay rise!
Jexy - I decided to give KiwiBoy another chance. We were both exhausted last time we had dinner which is probably why conversation didn't flow.
So... trying to think of some pleasure for today...
1) 1 week until I am on holiday!! WOOHOO!!
2) I had my half year review today and my manager was very complimentary on everything, though said I have to work on my moodiness... she has a fair point...
3) One from yesteerday which I had forgotten... I walk down to our office in the city through Lincolns Inn Fields which was such a calm and tranquil alternative to the hussle and bustle of High Holborn. It was also beautifully warm and sunny... I love London in the summer.
4) Filled up my car and it was only £1.13 per litre... I know that is extremely expensive... bu it was the cheapest I have seen in weeks
5) Having a very large vodka while I am typing this... cos' I'm worth it!
Night night...
Sleep tight...
Don't let the bed bugs bit...
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Evening all
Acey - glad to hear the results of the tests were not so bad, even if the process left you a little weak at the knees!
Sparrer - sorry to hear about the WM, I agree these things are not built to last at all - I was sad when my nans finally died after it was about 20 years old and had also literally fell off the back of the lorry when moving, but survived!
Bunny - hope the bedroom got sorted and the toffee cake worked out, I searched my books but cant find something like I think you want sorry
Houself, sorry but I laughed at the comment about the fight not inc. your schools kids! Glad DD has regained focus. And also on your mile! well done!
Ollie - hope my "sisters" (your DD ;p) new house was good!
Megsmum, what a lovely thing to think of doing for your friend, she is lucky to have you! As for the hens... I cant be cross at you buying them grapes, I included cornflakes and muesli in the porridge I made this morning lol.
CCP - agree the broad band adverts are definitely misleading in many cases. Portsmouth is also close enough to count as IoW! Although the ferry prices are horrendous! Bad news about the car, but at least you had cake!
Nutty - Hope fakeout went well again, I love that name!
Caterina - I think you are very strong and brave about your work decision and its absolutely right for yougood that you are also not on call anymore and that all are doing well. Hope you dont lose the quiz by one point like someone else on here did *whistles*
:D:D
Niksyg well done on being a good role model and admired, I am sure that made you feel ace
Girly - Gratz to DP, and lets hope the new role works out, keep us posted!
Bella, wd on your new purchases / bargains, and the tea and cake sounded lovely!
Tealady - lovely surprise on the bills accountand also on the using stuff up! Its good to feel on top of things isnt it.
Jollymummy, I would love to be a fly on the wall with that age group and baking, sounds like loads of fun!
Ladyhawk cheers! Im having a large brandy! but its not unusual for me lol! Glad kiwiboy is getting a second chance to woo you
Mine - well its been a mixed bag today started REALLY well with...
1) I WON A HAMPER!!!!!!!!!!!!! no really I did! apparently I entered a competition in "our december issue" (no idea what magazine lol it doesnt say!) and taaa daaaa... Answered the door to the parcel man this morning and he gave me a HUGE box full of about 8 sorts of pastas, (some I have never seen or heard of!) 6 sorts of tinned beans, 5 different flavoured olive oils, a 5 litre tin of EV olive oil, 2 types of balsamic vinegars - it was ACE! I never won anything ever!
2) Did I mention I won a hamper????
3) Let the hens out at 6.45 A.M. yes AM!!!! and went beck to bed:D:D we had decided to have a slightly later start
however, we were quiet at lunchtime, hence no leftovers, and I serioulsy almost got linched when I filled the seed tray, and 14 hens were waiting around the leftovers tray... and I walked past. I am so not popular, but resisted the urge to come and make pasta for them ... specially after it being a 6 egg day! ( And I won a hamper with lots of pasta in, not sure I mentioned it...)
4) My ma broons cookbook arrived
5) did I mention I won a hamper?????
Its been a rough old day in some aspects, but life goes on, hence the focus on the hamper.... did I mention the hamper yet???
gnight allI will pay jexygirl the compliment of saying that she invariably writes a lot of sense!0 -
1. Managing another NSD today.
2. Baking and making; pizza, bread, veggie lasagne, oat cookies.
3. Helping out my elderly uncle who has just come out of hospital, we went to fetch his very boisterous dog from the kennels.
4. Doing some more crochet, i only do basic stitches at the moment, my blanket/possible bedspread is going to be massive but it is a lengthy project that i will work on intermittently throughout this year and maybe the next too. It's a labour of love.
5. Watering my seedlings - bit disappointed that so many have failed to take off, but pleased about those that show the signs of life and prospective successes otherwise.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200
NSD Challenge: October 0/140 -
congrats on your mile house elf, wish I could do that but if I ran up the stairs I'd be grabbing the nebuliser :rotfl:. Mothers tell your children NEVER, EVER smoke a cigarette!
Lol Ollie I have to pick my moments to phone DM between her soaps - if I phone too soon I can almost hear the tut tutting, if I phone after 9pm it's 'why are you so late?' - can't win!
CCP IoW holds many warm memories, I spent 2 years there with my Grandmother when I was a child while my parents were divorcing/setting up homes, and had many very happy times at her home in Ventnor before and after that. Lol at the squeaky in the shop queue
Caterina so pleased the baby has arrived safely, and you can breathe easier now. Until the next time
ACEY poor you, what you went through sounds really horrid. That on top of the court/ex issues and you can still write your 5. I admire you so much :A
Ladyhawk your petrol was a great price. I always check the local filling stations and it's 117 for the cheapest atm
Congats on your win Jexygirl :T - what was it again?!
My 5 -
1. after much searching and changing of mind I found a wm for £190 ( plus nectar points lol) so have ordered it to be delivered on Wednesday. A huge relief to know I'll be able to turn it on without risking electrocuting myself
2.Arrived early for my appt with the bank so had a mooch around the shops first and didn't buy anything - though it's not really surprising as I'd left my purse at home by mistake :rotfl:
3. A very nice mansorted out all my bitty pieces and put my (very meagre) savings into an ISA with quite a respectable rate. It feels good to have all the ends tied up
4. The day started with beautiful sunshine so I only needed a light jacket when I went out. It finished with rain so the garden got a good watering and the water butt is full
5. Watching Sport Relief and laughing at some of the antics on there. Then falling asleep on the sofa and have only just woken up and got myself to bed
Night night (((everybody))) sweet dreams
S x0 -
Morning all! Jexygirl, good to see you back with us.
My 5 for yesterday:
1. Doing a Reverbe - cash on floor at gym.
2. Short day at work - left at 2pm to go to one of my favourite clients, who's only 5 minutes from my house.
3. New season The Mentalist on 5 last night.
4. Finding out that Gizmo's poorly eye is just conjunctivitis, which is easily sorted. And he was such a good boy when it came to taking him to the vet. He's a wild hooligan at home so i was expecting the worst!
5. Getting in touch with a former work colleague who has been in Australia for four months, and arrangingt o have lunch. Not very MSE, but definitely a pleasure.
Right, must go, am on the 9.15 coach to London and am not even showered or dressed yet!Life is not a dress rehearsal.0 -
Good morning  - though it's not all THAT good at the moment - dull and drizzly - yesterday's sunshine turned to rain by late afternoon and I don't think it's stopped since.
Megs mum - thanks for you kind comment about my posts- I love reading little snippets of everybody's lives. wd on your pedicure (I wouldn't DARE ask anybody to do my size 9's - only the chiropodist gets to see them and that's very rarely) and what a lovely gesture for your friend's birthday. Love the sound of the natural environment that you live in.
CCP - as you see above, our sunshine only lasted till around mid afternoon - but do have to admit that it waswhile it lasted. wtg on having 'rescued cakes' in the afternoon - there have to be some perks
. Our firm has recently decided on 'healthy foods policy' for freebie lunches so have cancelled ALL cakes - fresh fruit platters and yoghurts for us in future - nice but NOT quite the same thing
.
nuttybabe - well done on dealing with persistent callers, can't stand them myself . Have a great gardening day with the kids and hope the weather stays good for you all.
Caterina - wd on being involved in the safe delivery - shame that the lady and baby had such a rough time delivering - can't have been a good experience for either of them, so I'm sure she was grateful for a friendly face and familiar language in the room with her :T. Hope you enjoyed your Quiz Evening.
niksyg - what a great compliment from your student :j - hope you manage to find the idealfor your home.
GirlySquare - wd on the Shirt of Hurt sponsoring - we had similar going on in our offices yesterday - these kind of things dont normally apply to our team as we don't work with other colleagues.
bella - wd on your bargain voucher shopping AND on your visit to the garden centre :T. great skirt and tops finds :j. I know what you mean about aching back while baking - I find the stooping gets to me these days and sitting down isn't the same.
ACEY - omg  - you've been having a rough time all round recently. wd on navigating your way there and back to the hosp - amazed that they allowed you to drive back home again after fainting like that. Hope all goes well for today's supervised visit with the boys - surely the supervisors won't allow him the opportunity to behave inappropriately like that with them - certainly hope not!
Tealady - great news about your new toaster :j - and wd on your utility bills :T.
jollymummy - :hello: again! wd on the swimming session with your ds and wtg on chanigng mortgage provider - teach em a lesson!
house elf - lol at your no.5 - that's what my OH does when I'm out for the day - cooks himself yellow fish/trout while I'm out of the way :rotfl:. I DO buy it for him (only on whoopsie though) then it goes in the freezer until I've got something planned. How kind of your colleague to take your group bowling for the afternoon :T.
Ladyhawk - wow after all those hours you've put in this, you've now got to spend part of your weekend writing a presentation and then driving to Telford to set up a conference - you must be dedicated to your job!
jexygirl - wtg on your hamper prize - it HAS to be some kind of Trade Magazine to get a prize that includes a 5litre can of EV Olive Oil. lol at your hens being disgusted at no left-overs for them :rotfl:. wtg on the Ma Broon's Cookbook :j.
katholicos - wd on the marathon baking session - very productive. Great of you to help your uncle out like that - hope he and the dog manage to settle back down now that he's home again. wtg on the blanket crocheting - I used to make them the size of the top of a double bed (but to go on a single size bed), by just doing the equivalent of a one GIANT granny square - changing colours whenever I ran out, even in the middle of a round. They were always very colourful and very random BUT, most importantly for me, no sewing up needed. Great for covering your knees in the winter while you were working on them too.
sparrer - lol at your smoking warning - I've never been a smoker, but my DD and DS2 started in their very early teens. DS2 has stopped for about 10yrs now and so has his dg/f. DD is another matter - but she won't smoke in front of ME. I'm now busy training dgd2 to say 'pooh dirty ciggies' every time she lights up. I also filled in a Quit Smoking Pack request in her name and had one delivered to her address. Have to admit though, that she's finding coping with life difficult enough at the moment, packing in now would just be an added stress. What I find annoying is that my mother encourages her to continue smoking  - fortunately DD finds it rude of my mother to interfere between us :rotfl:. wd on finding a washing machine for such a bargain price :j. wtg on your bank appointment - it DOES feel positive when you've been to visit them doesn't it :T.
savingforoz - what a sweetie Gizmo was - glad it wasn't anything serious. Enjoy your weekend trip to London.
Mine for yesterday:
1. Out early for the work presentation - £250 in LoveToShop vouchers :j. Plus a great chance to mix with other colleagues. Two other Scheme Managers were receiving the same amount - only those receiving 5yrs+ awards go to the main presentation. Boss Lady came to support us and was delighted that 9 out of 12 in our team had received 100% Attendance Awards - 75% of us :T.
2. IT Manager (also receiving an award) came over to chat and congratulated me on NOT doing anything wrong with my laptop recently- he's used to my pleas for help after once pressing one of the 'F' keys and completely wiping EVERYTHING off the darn thing - I'll let your imagination tell you what he says I've to keep my fingers off since then :rotfl:. Anyhow, I've now wangled myself a Wireless Connection for my laptop so I can work from my living room instead of my pokey little (6ftx7ft) office upstairs :j. We were offered Danish Pastries and coffee at the presentation, but it was too early in the day for cakey stuff for most of us - brought some home for lunchtime though - so much for the Healthy Food Options!
3. Local gardening service came round - they promised to do people's lawnmowing and garden tidying for £10. I did tell the guy that my garden is HUGE and he should come and view it first before quoting a price. He agreed to £20 for the first cut of the season (wasn't cut for half of last year as my lawn-mower and strimmer BOTH broke down) and then £15 per visit after that. Sounds good to me - AND it'll save me buying new ones :T.
4. Really good Team Meeting in the afternoon - hardly seemed to be on-site all day. Now need to decipher my own handwriting and get the minutes produced and emailed out to everybody. Boss Lady and colleagues all said thanks for me doing the minutes each time - just wish I'd persevered at the shorthand though - flipping dipthongs finished me off every time I tried.
5. Visit from DS2 with dgs3 at tea-time. Managed to dig some Turkey Casserole out of the freezer to feed them with - DS2 was most impressed. While I was 'tunnelling' through the freezer contents, came across a container of Oxtail Stew so OH and I had that with mashed pots and cut runner beans - didn't really need to have had the mash though, as discovered that there were quite a few dumplings in the Stew - that'll teach me to label stuff a bit better in future.
6. Also found some Root Veg Soup lurking in there, so that can come out for tonight's meal - will head off to Asda later, to see what whoopsie bargains I can find in the bread section :j.
7. Family Tree stuff last night. Made a real effort to track my grandmother's maternal family a little bit more. Found that they had owned a public house in St.Helens in 1881. THEN found a link to a 'St.Helens Public House Project' that lists EVERY pub that ever existed in the town with landlord's names - and hey presto there they were AND a photo of the pub :j. That then followed back to find her grandfather (my gggf) working as an Ostler at a hotel in Melton Mowbray in 1841 - sounds like a Coaching Inn and he looked after the horses - it's also where he met his future wife who was a 'domestic servant' at the same place.
Oh well, the morning is getting on and it's time I went for a shower - lazy mare once again! May just have ONE morefirst though! Hope everybody has a great OS/mse weekend - speak again alter - love Ollie xxx

Just a quickie to say BIG CONGRATULATIONS on your award Ollie, you're amazing to do all you do work/family/MSE-wise and deserve the recognition plus a huge round of :T:T:T:T:T for it all.
I had to laugh at the Danish pastries, perhaps they see the apple, apricot etc fillings as the healthy option :rotfl:Good for you for rescuing some to take home. Have a good (I was going to say peaceful but stopped myself just in time) weekend
