Comments
-
Evening everyone, my 5 for today.
1. Food shopping, tried asda for a change, came in well under budget. Result.:money:
2. CS find, silk blouse to match skirt that i already have. Might wear this to posh do next month.:j
3. Hm pasta turn out very well, and so easy and cheap.:money:
4. Have booked the local training college to have my hair cut and coloured. £15.00, have been playing around cutting and colouring it myself, so this will be a real treat. Roll on next Tue.
5.Heating not on as much, weather seems to be warming up a good bit.:)
Ollie, good idea about the crunchie, will give that ago, just stir crumbled bits into the sponge. Then carnation toffee buttercream on top.Yum Yum
Sleep tight, hugs to all who need them :A. Love BTxx0 -
Evening all! My 5 for today:
1. Yummy spicy pasta for tea (and a big plate of it!) with enough left over for a second meal.
2. Being a domestic goddess and doing a big batch of spicy lentil soup in the slow cooker, ready for tomorrow's lunch, with a homemade roll.
3. Having some good laughs with work colleagues. The much anticipated staff appraisal didn't happen for me today; looks like it will be next week now.
4. Getting an unexpected banking into my bank account - OK, only £8, but it's all good!
5. Treating myself to a book that will come in useful for my trip - it was only £4.99 so not a huge splurge!
Right, I'm off, I need to portion out the soup and go to bed. I could easily stay up for hours yet, but with work tomorrow that isn't such a hot idea!Life is not a dress rehearsal.0 -
evening all
Sparrer, hope you get the leccy sorted, its almost like people dont want to work sometimes isnt it!
Housey - share the cream eggs! havent had one for years!
Katey - sounds like a great day - can we see the pics?
Oz - You are doing the tease with the story again! I laughed at the appraisal lol
Ollie Mum! I cant believe you teased with emmerdale, I dont get tv remember! Whats happening!
Megs, please come and sort my growing out! I would have eaten that much HG cabbage and more! You are so lucky, and truly do reap what you sow, you inspire me! Yes my girls are like yours, they are in a 9 meter by 9 meter pen, which is still free range apparently, but the "extension" will make me feel better, even tho they have so much space its untrue!
Pepsi - isnt it the daftest things that bring the throat lump! When you least expect it! but what a pleasure
CCP what a lovely day, didnt realise you were on IoW you lucky thing! Its beautiful! I got married on Hurst Castle - is this another small world thread!
Nutty - what a day, hope it all works out ok, thinking of you all.
Girly, as always loving number 2you are so lucky!
Kitti, isnt the innocence / lack of embarassment of kids great, would have loved to have the impromptu dance show, sounds ace
Lady, you sound shattered and busy *hug* but erm... forgive me, but kiwi boy was a no go after date 3 wasnt he?
Newly - that sounds like a fab day, use of voucher denotes a MS day regardless of other spends, its counteracted! GJ on showing OH the OS way too!
Zara - again sounds like a great day- next time the kettles on, mines black decaff coffee no sugar! WD on the over payment too, iykwim!
Wssla - I found another twin! I love both programmes, and have been watching master chef too on catch up! As for the grey - it isnt grey, its strategic highlightspeople pay loads for it!
Carolyntia - you didnt rant, it was good you felt you could "vent" thoughI love reading all posts, good and bad, its nice we feel we can, I know i make you all suffer, but I dont mind if people scroll!. Glad it helped you sleep too, we undervalue a good nights sleep dont we! And.. you didnt lose a pound, you gave it to me im sure! Well done, I am going to give it back though soon!
Mineallmine, good job on your pleasures, hope the early night did you good and you slept well
Tealady *rasies right hand to signal brownie silence!* Im glad you cheat too! Sounds gorgeous! Also a twinks devotee, amazing how popular they make you, glad you met some new colleagues!
Bunny - good job on the hair front, its always good to have a pamperI looked for toffee cake with toffee sauce recipes and its still a work in progress! not the sort of thing i usually make so a good challenge, will get back to you with the ultimate! Im trying to meet all requirements and its hard!
mineif you didnt scroll! ( this is the hardest bit, I like replying but having to think of 5 is hard! Which is why i stick around, you make me feel commited! (perhaps should be commited!)
ok
1) there is NO sadder sight than 14 wet hens! Truly, it rained all day, as it does here, and the girls were SO wet, despite having their house and a designer shelter ! But as it was raining and the run was a quagmire, I might have made a little too much spaghetti (which they love!) for the staff dinner of bolognaise! It was an accident honest! *whistles!* At least Roadie had a bath! even if it wasnt of her own volition! she isnt the cleanest of hens! They may have been wet, but looked so happy !
2) Catching up with my best mate from school. We havent spoken for about 8 years or more, but I got an email from friends reunited which led to msn, and a great catch up! We sat at my parents table in about 91 writing a " what will we be doing in 10 years time" letter which we sealed and signed... he was amaze dI still have it, and may come up to visit and open it even though we are a few years late! before he goes to rhiyhad in 6 weeks time. Was great to chat on msn.
3) got caught up with prep, including scones which I hate making!
4) OH went to our caravan down the road to show one of the new staff that cycles here where he can stay. None of my seeds have survived but my new plants seem to have survived! ( yes im using it as a propergator atm!) am gutted about the transplanted seeds, but have learned for next year!
5) realised I have enough bottles for my front panel of the greenhouse and the door - watch this space for pics!
JexI will pay jexygirl the compliment of saying that she invariably writes a lot of sense!0 -
5 for today.
1) Working at school all day, feeling quite useful.
2) Being spoken to nicely by all the teachers in the staffroom at lunchtime. (Not that they usually speak to me in a horrible way, just they were all especially chatty this lunchtime! And there was cake).
3) Going swimming with the boys and my brother.
4) Being invited to Chelsea Flower Show. My auntie (in the US) likes to go when she can and I've never been so I will go with mum and meet my auntie there. I haven't seen her for a few years.
5) Getting my college homework done and only crying a bit whilst doing it. Its the new module "Loss and Grief", its really quite tough especially when you have to write your own reflections about it.
6) Watching the last part of the Eddie Izzard Marathon programme. :-)
7) Going to have a hot bath now then listen to radio on iplayer.
L
P.S Tomorrow, just to round this week off nicely, I'm off to the QE hospital in Birmingham to have all the nerves in my left arm tested. This involves sticky things, needles and electric currents. :-S Next week is going to be a dream in comparison with this one!!0 -
Followed your link house elf but says firefox can't fine the server...I've no idea how to do links - far too technical for an oldun like me! - but the note about needing a local address is on the application page. Not to worry, am still hoping DB will buy it for my b/day, he can afford UK prices
Ollie and Jexygirl...the wm has finally had it. Less than 3 years old, that's about £100 a year. I read somewhere that wm's are built to last approx 3/4 years these days. Unbelievable. So now the hunt begins for a new one which has everything I want at a price I can afford... highly unlikely, ha ha :rotfl:
Hope your Aunty's worries are unfounded GirlySquare, it's hard being any distance from a relative who's been so poorly. Your DM is fortunate having so many people care about her, too often I saw older people left to fend for themselves by families who made any and every excuse not to visit or just phone occasionally.
Have a good date Ladyhawk, nothing wrong with being single OR committed, whatever suits at the time. Mind you I was ready to be committed after 23 years with my ex, lol
Sounds like your OH is getting the bug newlywed - long may it last :T
My 5 -
1. Making a huge pot of chilli and another of korma for next weeks party.
2. Having a long chat on the phone with DM, and finding everything and nothing was funny. We do laugh a lot during our phone calls and my visits
3. A nsd
4. Seeing the washing blowing on the line, and smelling the lovely fresh air smell when I took it in to fold it
5. Using up the oven space while I was cooking to make myself a mini roast for dinner
Night night (((everyone))) sweet dreams
S x0 -
Morning everyone, my 5 for today are.
1. Short out my bedroom, why oh why am i so messy and DS so tidy...... Out with my timer, me thinks 5mins at a time will get me through it.:rotfl:
2. Have started to make and freeze my scones uncooked, working out really well. We only seen to like them warm straight from the oven. Think i'm getting a bit spoiled.:)
3.Read on another board about vol work, thinking about 2 hours one day a week to see how i manage. Would love to have something to look forward to in the week. I get so green eyed when i hear about your jobs.
4.Trying another toffee cake recipe today, and some twinks, might add some crunchie to some of them too.:money:
5.Friend coming for lunch today, delia's bean soup and hm white bread.Got some ys mussels from asda for tea.:money:
Have a great os day,esp you working ladies. Hugs to all who need them :A. Love BTxx0 -
Morning People, its light :j
Sparrer - Sorry about the linky thing 'tiz me not you that can't do it:o
5 for yesterday
1. Took my class on a visit to Careers event at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry - Posh.
2. Fight at careers event did not involve anyone from my school. That makes a refreshing change!
3. SC stew was nice. Might take it for lunch today too.
4. Finding some old bits of jewellery for DS2 to adapt into 'boys' jewellery. Found him some wrist band thingies and bits and peices to restring as pendants. He seems v happy with that!
5. DD has decided to stay at college. Had a bit of s wobble sfter some unexpectedly low exam results, but focused again now.
ACEY - Give us a wave when you are at the QE! We are not far away. DD was born at the 'Womens Hospital'.
Have a great 'Sport Relief ' day. Think of me walking a mile in ill-fitting sports kit. HE x0 -
Good Morning everybody - nice shiney sun already - hope it's the same for the rest of you
.
Megs mum - will you just [STRIKE]listen to yourself[/STRIKE] re-read your own posts and THEN repeat that you are lazy and play all day!!!! an aerobics run; keep fit; digging; gardening; writing a blog article PLUS you look after your hens as well - I don't see any laziness!
pepsimax - wd on looking after your dgs - what are us mum's like eh! - good idea to go with the electric fire - at least if there's a gas supply problem you'll still have SOME source of keeping warm. That's exactly what our HA did with these houses - gas c/h and electric fire.
CCP - wd to your veggie firm to support a local product in that way :T. lol at your 'catch-up meetings' and I thoroughly agree with you about statistics - keep telling my OH that they can mean anything that you want them to.
nuttybabe - wtg to your ds for his efforts in assembly :j - hope you can rescue something out of your weekend - such a shame if it all falls apart after looking forward to it so much.
GirlySquare - great to know that somebody is able to keep a close but discreet eye on what's happening with your mum - hope all's well.
Kittikins - I'm thinking of changing to BT - but keep hearing mixed reviews of their broadband - don't want to jump into something that's less reliable. Hope your herbs survive the transplant - bet the mint will - it usually does. Did you plant it in a container BEFORE it went into the garden? My grandad used to put it in an old bucket first, to stop it from running rampant.
Ladyhawk - wow your firm certainly get their money's worth out of you - don't they! How lovely to get a letter from your dad like that - my dad never wrote letters either OR birthday cards. In fact, I'm not sure I would even recognise dad's handwriting, at all - he left EVERYTHING like that to mum. Brie baguette sounds divine
newlywed - brilliant bargain hunting :j - amazing how much you can find, when you've got the time to shop around.
zarazara - wd on sorting out the overpaid tax credits - they're brill if you show willing to sort something out. My dd got into problems with them, but thanks to her ex-OH she ignored it for far too long and then had to pay it all back - only he's now not around to take his share of the paying back .
wssal00 - good luck with those appointments- Phil and Kirsty are my two favourites on TV
.
Carolynita - Hope you have a great off-shore day with 'your boys'.
mineallmine - love your no.2 - sometimes it's good to get into a 'different circle' for a while - there's lots of people in my organisation that I've never spoken to as I work 'out in the sticks', so I enjoy going on courses that mean I mix with other teams.
Tealady - lol at the 'twinks effect' in your office! Good luck with the guide volunteering.
bunny too - wd on your cs find of a silk blouse :j - enjoy your hair-do treat. I've already bought my box of colour for my next hairdresser visit at the end of April. Good luck with the continuing hunt for a toffee cake recipe - personally speaking, I think you're just looking for an excuse to eat toffee cake all day . Great idea of yours to check for some vol work - I did that when my kids were very young - worked in my favourite charity shop - believe me that's a great one!!!!
savingforoz - wd on your batch of spicy lentil soup AND your book find for your trip :T.
jexygirl - sorry about the tease with Emmerdale! Last night was nasty Sally 'date-rape-drugging' Ashley the vicar while his wife has gone to visit his niece (Jasmine - the lesbian police murderer) in prison. omg what HAS happened to good old, safe, dull Emmerdale Farm - Annie, Sam and Amos will be turning in their graves . awwww at your soggy hens - poor Roadie. good luck with your bottle greenhouse front panel :T.
ACEY - I used to notice that teachers didn't get too close to us mums who helped in the school - then I realised that they are in a difficult position. They need to be on their guard a little with us, as it can be all too easy to let something 'personal' slip in the staffroom (when I think of what I and my colleagues would chat about in our breaks ). Obviously even when volunteering we were still just a group of 'mums' NOT trusted work colleagues. They didn't mean anything unpleasant by their reticence - just being careful with personal information.
sparrer - awwwww shame about your washing machine. I've also heard that they're not built to last more than 3 or 4 years - mine must be on borrowed time  by now. Maybe the best thing is to get the cheapest 'reputable brand' you can find, and give it a try - you'll still get a guarantee with it. good to hear you have a great chat with your mum on a regular basis - I can never catch mine at home.
house elf - :rotfl: at your no.2 - no offence meant by this next comment, but you sound like Mr Hedges (John Alderton) always sticking up for 5C in 'Please Sir'. Good Luck with your Sports Relief efforts.
Yesterday was pretty much 'more of the same' for me:
1. Morning visit from DS1 for our tea and chat.
2. More visits to tenants including one gentleman who had just come back from hospital and now needs far more from us in the way of services/care package.
3. Making arrangements for this mornings presentation - need to be there by 9.15 .
4. Cheat's tea of oven fish, oven chips and frozen peas/sweetcorn - but very .
5. More family tree investigations :T.
6. Just had a lovely phonecall from DD - a slightly bigger house has just come up for rent around the corner from where she is now. She's going to view and may take it IF it's a bit bigger and has an upstairs bathroom - not much point in moving unless it fits either or both of those.
I'll pop back later and hope everybody has a great day - love Ollie xxx0 -
Ollie - your posts are amazing ...
Here are mine from yesterday
1. Not OS this bit but read on ... went and indulged in pedicure (you should see my poor runners toes and they look awful without varnish on - chose Foxy Lady!! Hmmm ... anyway ... and had a good old waxing too. Sooo I was chatting to the beautician and suddenly decided it came to me that my running buddy BF (thats best friend not boy friend - my darling hubby is quite enough) who has rather a low self-esteem, lives in a very male household etc etc etc could do with some girlie pampering and she has a birthday pressie due - so - I booked us an hour of "how to do your make-up" but have only told her to hold the date open not what I am going to do. I actually will have to kidnap her to get her into the place - she wont even try clothes on in shops but does it all mail order so doesnt look good and so the cycle continues. So although this isnt an OS pleasure the THOUGHT is OS.
2. Truely OS - frogspawn in the pond
3. Woodpecker drumming contest this morning on our woodland walk
4. Watching the hens trying to eat as many grapes as possible as quickly as possible (the grapes were very very cheap from our greengrocers and the girlies love them. Its a small reward for their egg-a-day)
5. Another sunny day in the garden, weeding and digging.
Take care all - enjoy your offshore, on-shore, pre-hols, or whatever your thing is.
XX MMStay clutter-free
No new stuff unless to replace broken items that are essential.
£2 savings pot (started Oct 09) £182 so far (£100 of which is banked)
Roadkill jar (found money) 87p and 20 eurocents0 -
Morning all.Good Morning everybody - nice shiney sun already - hope it's the same for the rest of you
.
Can I come and visit you, please? I woke up this morning to dense fog and, although its lifted a bit now, it's still a grey, drippy sort of day.
I used to get my broadband from BT so, from my experience, I would advise pinning them down to a connection speed before you sigh anything. I was told I would get about 2mb, but it actually proved to be more like 0.4, which made it practially unusable. They let me out of the contract when I threatened to report them for misrepresentation, but it took quite a lot of arguing. I know a lot of people swear by them, though, so maybe I was just unlucky.
house elf - good luck with your charity walk later. I hope the weather's better where you are.
bunny too - I'll be very interested to know how you get on with your vol work. I looked into doing some a couple of years ago, but none of the organisations I contacted bothered getting back to me, which rather put me off. I hope you have better luck.
Megs mum - I just second what Ollie said. I'm terrified by your idea of laziness!
ACEY - good luck at the hospital tomorrow.
Jexygirl - I'm actually in Portsmouth, but my parents live on the Isle of Wight so I count it as a second home. (I'm not an IOW native - my parents and I both moved to the south coast about 6 years ago.)
newlywed - I'm glad your first job centre visit went OK - I remember my sister being pleasantly surprised by how helpful they were when she started going at the end of last year. Good luck with finding a new job through them.
Right, I must go and do something that resembles work.I'll pop back later and see how everyone's doing.
Back after a very long break!0
