nutty elf how did you get the NT membership via NZ? I've looked at NZ,Oz, Bermuda, Barbados, and they all say you have to have a local address to join through them. Perhaps the rules have changed, would be just my luck as, as you say it's considerably less expensive :(
Ollie thank you, I have a yellow and white garden and am always looking for ideas...how could I have overlooked forsythia? I'll be on the hunt in the next few days :D
Eyelids are drooping so a quick 5 -
    1. out for lunch with DD and DGD2, unexpected last minute arrangement which was fun but costly - what we had used to cost no more than £12, today it was over £22 thanks to new owners
    2. Bought a spice rack on the way back to the car, in a new shop which sells lovely shabby chic kitchenware.
    3. The friend from FU emailed, he asked if I was still 4 feet 11" or had I grown up yet? When I reply I'll let him know I have, all the way to 4 feet 11 3/4 inches :rotfl:
    4. Not too impressed with the local sparkies, I've phoned five in the last couple of days and not one has had the courtesy to call back However the washing machine is still working with a lot of false starts each time, so managed to get two loads line dried.
    5. Sun, sun and more sun, and the promise of it being even warmer tomorrow...they say it may be as high as 61o :T Bring it on!

    Night night (((everyone))) sleep tight

    Morning!

Woken v early by desperate dog:rotfl: looks like no one let her out before bedtime last night:mad:

Sparrer - Had a quick look on NZ NT. Can't see where it says you need a local address to join? Even with postage to UK it would only be just over £25 for you. Worth a try!

Been having a bit of a crisis similar to Caterina, but have now got things in perspective, and will start looking for jobs rather than making a grand exit. Although Tuesday evening I would have gladly just slammed the classroom door, never to return!!!!!

Need to keep up with listing five things every day, otherwise I tend to dwell and go into a decline:(

    So, here goes...

    1. Start of F1 season.
    2. Fun lessons yesterday on the theme of F1.
    3. One of my 6th formers telling the head of 6th form she had a 'fun maths lesson'.
    4. Although got woken up early, the smell of stew cooking in SC was nice:)
    5. Popped into MrT on my way to collect DD from work last night to get half price creme eggs for my class, and got lots of YS stuff, and used a couple of money off vouchers! (Even got a few gift sets for the Xmas present box)!

Megs Mum - I love the picures you put in my mind, one day I hope my garden will be the same!

Ollie - I sometimes feel the need to pop in a 'Liverpudlian' word, even though I have tried to 'loose' my accent. (It comes back when I'm cross, so sometimes the kids at school try to wind me up just to hear my accent:mad: ). HA's will always be 'The Corpy' to me!!

Have lovely day everyone :A HE x

Jexygirl sponge type, i have a sticky toffee type recipe.I like to make my cakes in a 2lb loaf tin. Started using lakke land tin liners that ollie uses and it makes the cake look so prof. Would like toffeetaste in the sponge as well as the topping IYKWIM. Was going to try lemon driz cake without the lemon and mix toffee sauce into sponge mix, them top with toffee.
Talk soon, i'll post my pleasures later. love BTx
  • hi everybody ~ this is a really great thread, I have found lots of inspiring ideas, thank you all : )

1 ~ watching the clothes blowing dry on the line outside.
2 ~ walking to the post office in town this afternoon in the fresh air instead of catching the bus
3 ~ making homemade burgers to put into homemade baps for dinner
4 ~ taking photographs on my walk instead of popping into shops
5 ~ I am going to write a menu plan today based on storecupboard ingredients as I have lots of food to be used up.

    have a lovely day : )

Well done to both Acey and Mr Lahey!
Carolyntia, good to see another member of the happily single club!

    My 5 for yesterday:

    1. Petty, I know, but I couldn't help laughing when I got to the office and saw the form that I had to fill in for my annual staff appraisal, which will probably take place today. One question said: What work and what job do you see yourself doing in one/two/five years? See my signature for what I'll be doing in a year's time!! As for two/five years, my ambition is to be a successful writer. Of course, I didn't put any of this on the form..Today's appraisal should be entertaining!

    2. Seeing my friend in the evening; she popped round to meet Penny and Gizmo. Needless to say, she loved them!

    3. Saving money, as my planned curry out was cancelled, so I got a homemade bean and mushroom curry from the freezer. Yummy!

    4. Making good progress on polishing my short story. I've given myself a deadline of finishing it at long last by tonight.

    5. My gym buddy telling me he has found a suitable tenant for when I rent my house out. Only problem is, she arrives in Bristol next month and my house isn't available until October. But I really appreciate how kind and helpful he is being.
Life is not a dress rehearsal.

Morning all  - looking quite dull outside at the moment, though the forecast for today was a good one - we'll see :).

bunny too - wd on your violas surviving the winter - they always look 'cheeky' to me. Had another google and found this one which is supposed to be a Gordon Ramsey one. Many of the on-line recipes are US and start with 'a packet of German Cake Mix' (whatever THAT may be). wd on taking your 90yr old friend for the appointment :T. Just a thought, would crumbled 'crunchie-style toffee' work in a cake mix or in a buttercream topping shrug.gif.
wssal00 - sorry to hear that you'd been in hospital - hope they get to the bottom of your allergies.
pepsimax - wd on your cross-generational shopping spree - that's something that I've never tried - not sure I could stand the strain of being mum, nanna and daughter all at the same time . Good luck with your new combi boiler (we've got one and I think it's great) and new fire.
ACEY - wd on your day in court :T - wonder how long he'll stick to his supervised visits for ;). Let's hope that the court will be able to read beyond the answers he gives to the psych. Your ds2's comment reminds me of something that dgs1 (Nathan) would say in that kind of situation. He also seems to have trouble recognising a 'telling off' - difficulty in reading tones of voice and facial expressions and also difficulty in being able to put himself in somebody else's position to understand how they feel. Great results for parents evening :j.
Mr Lahey - wd on your family reaching the final of the competition. Like others have said, yours was definitely the most adventurous family out of all the ones that I read, so good luck to you all. Wd you on managing to give your family such wonderful experiences - I'm sure they'll benefit from all that they've done as they get older :T.
CCP - wtg on your minus priced pears :j - even I've never managed to get THEM to pay ME to take stuff away before. Great link to the NT - could be visiting John Lennon's old home this weekend .
Blimus - wd on being able to turn off your storage heaters - not able to completely switch c/h off here yet, but have reduced the amount of time that it's actually set to be on. We're the main road end of a 3-house row - living room and bedroom right on the end. Happy Birthday to Mr O'Reilly and hope you both have a great evening out .
GirlySquare - sorry to hear you've been feeling a bit down - hope things brighten up for you soon HSbow126420.giffor you.
Carolynita - ooooooh time to do battle girl - I'll hold yer handbag and organise your cheerleaders and ticket sales - 10% commission of course ;)! wd on your car's mot :j.
nuttybabe - wtg on your angel sock monkey sales :T.
Kittikins - Good Luck with your Sky. not sure if you're going with them for your broadband - but if you do, don't take any carp from them. I was having trouble with my broadband connection and they tried to tell me I need to buy a new modem from them for £65 when I'd had it for less than a year. I kicked up a fuss and they agreed to 'boost something' and all was well - luckily I didn't just pay up at the first suggestion . lol at you and dd getting the giggles :rotfl:.
Tealady - wd to your DD cleaning the kitchen down after you'd had your marathon baking session for her guides cake sale.
Ladyhawk - what a day - you must have been glad to see the back, even if somebody DID steal part of it ;). wd on the lunchtime treat :j.
jexygirl - lol at the 'erm ...... ok' shadow week - hope things get better :). Good to hear that your girls are now recovering their plumage and looking much prettier - even their bums ;).
sparrer - fingers crossed for you washing machine holding out until an electrician decides to ring you back.
house elf - sorry to hear that you've been having a rough time in work - hope things pick up soon. I do know that working with kids with extra support needs is verydraining - some of the tales my dsis tells are  - but she reckons usually it's the education authority/school rules&regs that are more frustrating than the actual kids themselves. lol at 'the corpy' my tenants still say that all the time - they just can't get used to us being a HA now and keep talking about K******* Council :rotfl:.
katymcdonald - :hello: and welcome to the thread - how lovely for you to make this thread your first post :T - looking forward to reading more about your life.
savingforoz - lol at your staff appraisal form - I've got my half-yearly one in April (groan, groan) - wonder what our employers would think IF we were all terribly honest with our answers - :naughty: - wicked Ollie!

    Mine for yesterday:

    1. Yet another visit from DS1 in the morning.

    2. Busy day in work with a few visits done.

    3. Visit from DS2 with dgs3 - needed him 'minding' while he took dgs2 to football practise and 'could I please feed him as they were having fish pie for evening meal and had forgotten that dgs3 can't have 'dairy'!' Managed to find a small tub of marge-free mash and a third of a tin baked beans in the freezer and he followed it with defrosted stewed apples - such gourmet delights :j.

    4. Loving Emmerdale at the moment - can't wait for next week's.

    5. Bit more of family tree work in the evening - think it now needs some pruning, but it's looking good.

That's me done for now. better start work for the day - speak again later - love Ollie xxx

Oh Boy! You guys make me laugh/cry/feel sooo lazy - your days are so long and full and I just play all day until I take a rest!
Acey - so pleased your day went as well as it did. Hugs to you and the boys.
Now then - all you would be hen keepers and gardeners - great fun and really quite easy but a commitment. We keep ours semi-free range (sounds like Jexy does the same)in a 5m x 5m enclosure with deep bark chippings, within which we have a fully fox proof run and house, both of which get opened / closed at dawn / dusk. However I do still worry that foxy loxy will jump in during the day and Polly, Ginger, Mrs White, Gert and Daisy will be reduced to a pile of feathers. Also if you allow them to run free in the garden you wont have much garden left after say an hour!
    Enough!!
    So yesterday ....
    1. Lovely pre-aerobics run with my friend then a good jump around with the ladies
    2. Appreciation (as always) by my DH for a nice dinner (HM Shepherds Pie, carrots and HG cabbage (we ate a whole cabbage between the 2 of us)
    3. Digging (again I know but it is so good. Dug in leaf mould that I had made from our leaves in the Autumn. Gooooood stuff. Black and gorgeous)
    4. Pleased with article written for blog elsewhere (and to think I failed O level English spectacularly ...)
    5. My leeks have germinated - tiny bright green loops pushing through the compost. Isnt nature wonderful!

Make the most of the Spring weather. Have great day everyone and enjoy the best things in life. Smile and make someone else smile too.

    Stay clutter-free
No new stuff unless to replace broken items that are essential.
£2 savings pot (started Oct 09) £182 so far (£100 of which is banked)
Roadkill jar (found money) 87p and 20 eurocents

This is the 1st min I've had to myself so far today since 6am so I'm having a little chill out.
1,My Dgs2 has just been collected by his mum whos on half day from uni,so I've ran around like a mad thing tidying up and preparing tea.
2,Reduced salmon fillets for tea and salad.I also made a quick batch of fairy cakes as theres nothing sweet left to eat in the house.I had 1 egg left and thought I may as well boil it to have with the salad so I had a brainwave and stuck it in with the pots that were already boiling.
3,Watching my Dgs painting earlier in toddler group, although he had more paint on him than on the paper he looked so happy it brought a lump to my throat.:)
4,The dog is watching my every move waiting for his walk and its pouring down, but I suppose I'll have to shift myself and take him.
5,Well the dreaded boiler quote has arrived, god I hate vat.Its ok but will stretch us.To save a bit I've decided to have the same fireplace I like but with an electric fire so that will save the cost of a gas fire fitting.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
    Evening all.

    Here's my five for today:

    1) The company I get my veggies from has started selling stoneground flour made a little company on the Isle of Wight, which I've only ever seen for sale on the Island. My first bag turned up today - not only am I supporting a local company, but it makes some of the nicest bread I've ever tasted.

    2) Also in my delivery were some garlic bulbs bigger than the palm of my hand, and some clementines no longer than my thumb. It just amused me to have garlic that's bigger than my fruit! :D

    3) Met a work colleague for what we call in our diaries (which can be viewed by anyone in the department) a 'catch-up meeting'. It's more accurately described as a trip to a local cafe for a coffee, a cake, and a natter. :)

    4) Spent the rest of my working day playing around with statistics, and got a rare 'thank you' from my section manager for getting them to show our department in a favourable light. (What's the old saying about lies, damned lies and statistics? ;))

    5) Another purely storecupboard dinner tonight. I'm finding the whole storecupboard challenge thing strangely enjoyable.

Have a nice evening, all - I must go and start cooking said dinner. :)
Back after a very long break!

    Evening everyone

    Mine for today

1 Left on time for school run again today!!!

2 Toddler group was fun, got lots of hugs from one of the kids there and one of the mums thought i was only 27!!! Bless her!!! :j

3 Ds1 was brilliant in his assembly. He spoke the loudest and had the most words AND the headmaster even gave him a mention at the end!! :D

4 Shortbread in under 5's cooking. Yummy!

5 I went to the govenors meeting today and it went really well. I am now on some committees and the school have said they will organise childcare for dd and ds2 (although they said that before!!) But it was nice for me to be in adult company without kids running around!

Well, I now have to pack stuff for the weekend BUT I have just found out my dad has a bad virus so we cant visit them and dh's brother has had a meningitis case in his school (his sister then got home complaining of symptons of meningitis) and we were meant to be staying with them so dont know what to do! I dont want to risk going but dh HAS to go so dont know what to do!!!!
