Some of you may remember about a month ago i said i was nominated for Britains Most Adventurous Family, well, many of you voted for us (Wilson family) and for that i cannot thank you enough, we are now in the final and those who voted helped get us there, so thank you all very much
My 5...
1 - Getting to the final of Britain's Most Adventurous Family
2 - Taking my 2 year old to Amsterdam for some quality time, the weather was great and we had a fantastic few days!
3 - For booking our flights with KLM expecting a BA strike, which unfortunately has gone ahead.
4 - Finally developing a dislike to Fish and Chips, hopefully Chocolate and crisps will be next!
5 - Well, for all the support we got from friends, family and people here in helping us get to the final:D:D
Thanks again all, look out for us April 7th - 10th!The Summer Holiday of a Lifetime0 -
Good evening everyone. I hope you've all had a pleasant day.
I've had an interesting day at work: I reported to our maintenance dept that we had no hot water in the kitchen, and the guy who came to repair the water heater somehow managed to flick the wrong switch and knock out every computer in the building for half an hour. (Oops!) My colleagues decided that, as I had reported the problem with the water, the computer failure was my fault.
They were mostly joking, but not entirely, so next time the :ps can sort out their own hot water. <goes off in a snit...>**************************
ACEY - I'm so glad you got a sensible and perceptive judge and that things went as well as could be expected. I hope the psychologist works out better than you expect, too: I've only once had dealings with a court-appointed psychologist (for a case I was dealing with at work, I hasten to add!) and he certainly didn't just parrot what the client told him - quite the opposite, actually! (L-o-n-g story!!)
wssla00 - It's lovely to see you back, and I hope you really enjoyed your escape from the hospital. I hope the tests sort things out once and for all.
sparrer - my sparrows don't seem to sing at all, they cheep - constantly and very loudly! I'm glad I like them as it's utterly impossible to ignore them!
jexygirl - it's nice to see you back on the thread. :hello: I love reading about your girls and megs mum's - I have to confess that I've never liked chickens much, but you both make them sound like wonderful creatures.
Mr Lahey - :T on getting through to the final. I would have voted for you even if I didn't know you, tbh - to me you were far and away the most adventurous of the contenders.
My five pleasures for today:
1) I got my shopping bargain of the week: 4 pears for -1p (yes, minus one!). The pack was labelled £1.79, but at the till I was charged £1.99. I went over to customer services to try and get my 20p, and instead got £2, plus the pears, "for my trouble". As I'd had my 1p change already they effectively paid me one penny to take their pears away.:money:
2) I used the £5 milk&more voucher advertised on this site to order some compost. I don't know if the voucher will be accepted - it's not food, after all - but even if it's not I'm still very happy to have the compost come to me rather than have to try to work out how to get it in and out of the car. I also ordered some reduced-price crumpets, to serve toasted with melted butter and honey.:drool:
3) Taleggio, tomato and pesto sandwich for lunch, using the last of the whoopsied taleggio from last week. Very nice it was too!
4) Apparently the National Trust are doing a free entry promotion this weekend (here, if anyone else is interested), so I might go and have a mooch round a stately home on Saturday.
5) Umm... I did have a fifth thing in mind, but I've forgotten what it was.I'll come back when I remember...
Ah yes, I remember - dinner tonight, made entirely from storecupboard items. It's rather satisfying turning the contents of a couple of tins, plus some veg, into a meal.Back after a very long break!0 -
Acey - Glad that you got on okay in court.
Mr Lahey - Well done on getting through to the final.
I haven't visited the thread for a few days as we were away at my mums at the weekend and then DS2 has been unwell, so I've yet to catch up on the last few pages.
Here are my five for today:
1) DH's birthday today. Not going out until tomorrow eve to celebrate so I made him individual fish pie and a Victoria Sponge birthday cake.
2) Finally turned off the heating. We have economy 7 storage heaters so I had to turn them off last night. Have been pleasantly surprised that the temperature in the house feels just right today.
3) Found some very good friends from long ago on Facebook - it's been great to catch up.
4) The weather - first time out without a coat today.
5) Enjoyed doing some research for an Aztec lapbook - there are so many great resources to be found on the internet and I got quite carried away!
Off to read the rest of the pages, that's another pleasure in itself.DFW Nerd 941 Proud to be dealing with my debt
August GC £0/£3000 -
ACEY glad you had a positive day in court, well done you and your lads
Mr Lahey congratulations on getting into the final
My five for today:
1) breakfast in bed courtesy dp
2) cuddles from dd this morning
3) getting a lot done today despite feeling down and jaded, hoping it's just tiredness due to everything that's been happening recently and things will improve soon
4) dd cheering me up with her Hannah Montana song and dance act when I got home
5) QI on Sky+ and Rhod Gilbert on tonight and Russell Howard's new series starts next week"We have to be kind because everyone is fighting a great, great battle" - Sir Richard Attenborough
"There is a special place in hell for women who don't help other women" - Madeleine Albright0 -
Evening all
ACEY - Sorry to hear about the second fire  but glad to hear your car was intact. Sounds like you had a good day in court too. Followed on by great reports from the school for your boys :T:T. No wonder you fell asleep before you could post :rotfl:
Ladyhawk/Savingforoz - I've been single for the last two years and found that I prefer it. Sometimes it can be a little lonely but at the end of the day I can do what I like, when I like. I've had far too many destructive relationships in the past to give up my singledom lightly
Jexy - There you are! Glad to see you back. Now don't go wandering off by yourself again
Sparrer - Ten year ex is still lovely and a very thoughtful bloke. However he's currently going through a divorce and I've already told him I have no intentions of being his rebound. He also still lives near Stoke and I'm not sure if I could deal with a long distance relationship again
Mr Lahey - Congratulations on getting into the final :T
Ok folks I've had the day from hell so I might have a bit of a struggle to find 5 but I'll try - first a little rant.
I got into work to find an e-mail from one of our contractors telling me they'd done £16,000 worth of work I hadn't authorised :mad:. Included in this e-mail was a pathetic attempt at offering compensation of £1,500 :mad: I rang him and said I was very unhappy (understatement) and his general attitude was 'ho hum never mind' which made me angrier:mad::mad::mad: Anyway since then I've found out the unauthorised work has ruined two parts of our pump and I'm going to have to buy new ones. I'm currently waiting for prices of these before I get back to him and demand what I want. I've been fuming and plotting my revenge all day. Then just before I left another contractor rang to say he was having problems with some calculations. My head was so filled up with information I could hardly understand what he was saying (mainly my brain shouting NO!). Luckily he understood and will send me an indiots guide to look at in the morning
Ok here goes my attempt:
1) Car passed the MOT (just a number plate light bulb required)
2) Good shutdown meeting - been working like a hamster on a wheel to drag all this together
3) Nice gammon steak for tea
4) Lovely sympathetic texts from 10 year ex about my bad day
5) Lovely chat with friend in London who let me rant
6) Warm sunny day
Phew I made it. Sorry about the rant and the long post. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day. If not I'm offshore on Friday and the fresh sea air and getting away from the office will help.
Hope you all had a better day than me. Take care.
C xAs my dad always used to say 'Just because you've got the money doesn't mean to say you have to spend it all at once'0 -

Evening All...
Who stole Wednesday? I just can't believe how fast today went. I started working on the train into London at 7.20am and only finish when I got back to my station at 9.40 this evening.... And it was just go go go all day. Needless to say I am totally cream crackered!
So, let me think about my pleasures from today...
1) NSD!! One of the NGO's that I work with marketing manager took me out to lunch at a swanky restaurant. I had a really yummy salmon fillet with spinach and baby roast potatoes in a butter cream sauce... yum! I really wanted a glass of wine but decided that would be a recipe for disaster
2) I managed to print off the wrong train ticket this morning so when I got to the gate I had the embarressing situation of the guard telling me that my ticket wasn't valid. He was very nice about it though and just let me get another one.
3) I also forgot my laptop on my desk... so had to get a colleague to bring it into London for me. At least I didn't have to lug it in on the train myself!!
Well... I have only made it to 3... I'm tired, hungry, grumpy and my knees ache from skiing... so I am going to go to bed.
Night all... sleep well
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Evening! Got an early night so you are all in for it now!
Sparrer - thats spooky! I also got an email from friends reunited yesterday, and I havent been on it for years! Turned out I had 5! (dating back to early last year lol)
Megsmum - dust baths are hilarious arent they! They "bath" in muck and snuffle into it, I love it!
Bella - do you want to come coach me on growing stuff, I think all my seeds died now! Im a bad bad mother!
Ollie - I did giggle at the not quite divorced bit for the last 20 years :P And as for the pastry thingys, its a life saving cheat like any bought pastry that you get in supermarkets, the cases come frozen and I just take out what I need, fold the corners, and bake! OMG they look sooo fancy! I am such a cheat! http://www.jusrolprofessional.co.uk/our-products/pastry-cases.aspx
2nd one down - dont they make me look clever:D:D I fill them with whatever filling I happen to have made (chicken and mushroom is this weeks choice! but fish pie or steak and ale etc) Shhhh dont tell anyone! And if you ever can pop by, it would be lovely to see you mom
:D:D:D
Bunny, what sort of toffee cake recipe are you looking for? like a sponge one or like a sticky toffee pudding thing? let us know!
Wssla - sorry to hear about being in hospitalAt least now you might get some answers, and it sounds like you needed it, even if we dont like to admit we dont feel so good, sometimes we have to admit we arent superman / wonderwoman. Glad things are being investigated though, lets hope for some answers. When I was nursing I hated waking patients at 6 for meds - i even got admitted once and was woken every 4 hours for drip change and meds, I was like huhhh? iM SICK DONT YOU KNOW! (Im not good at being woken up... lol)
Pepsi - I love the 4 generations enjoying time togetherI remember going to my great grans 100th birthday and there were 4 of us, it felt special
and the fact you all enjoyed it speaks volumes
what a great thing to have
(even tho everyone here is about 25 in my mind!)
Acey ... what can I say. I was worried about your house fire, then hours before you go to court you are up with a car fire... hun - hugs to you for being sooooo strong, you never let things phase you, or at least cover it for your boys. I am glad things went well in court, and your boys are doing so great in school as well - all credit to your strength, determination and charactergood on you hun - but no more fires ok!
Mr Lahey - WOW! I googled it, and you are amazing! Best of luck for the final - you deserve it from what I read, I will vote if you tell me when, I dont get TV, but will vote but need notice, (and will watch on catch up TV if you say when!) as I have to go out to the loch to get signal! But I am really impressed WELL DONE HUN! YOu gave your kids an amazing experience and should be so proud
CCP - come visit and meet my girls then tell me they arent your thing(does a proud smile as she writes
) I can understand tho, OH wont go near them and says they are dirty ( but still watches and laughs from outside the pen and has decided exactly where the "extension" to the run will go...) I cant believe you got paid to take pears away! RESULT!
Blimus - forgive my ignorance, whats an aztec lapbook? I agree that readiong other posts is a pleasure
Girly I love that your 2 is ALWAYS cuddles from DDyou are very lucky
I also hope your down feeling is tiredness and everything going on, in a way thats why I love this thread, we all have "stuff" going on ( I dont mean to make yours sound less please read on) but reading this thread and smiling, (or worrying - usually about Aceys antics!) makes me think twice, about me, about others and forces me to find 5!)
Carolyntia - thank you for lovely wordsIm clearly not supposed to be out alone lol! ( I am also allowed to paint with potatos if I have a responsible person to cut the shapes out for me! Its true!) I loved your comment, and sorry i went awol! But its likely to happen again so please dont worry
and erm,.. long post... girl... check me out ! Queen of long waffles! Its bad that there was work done you didnt authorise... and erm the "TYE" ( ten year ex for uninitiated!!!!) "happened to be there to sympathise..."
:D:D *whistles and looks innocent*
:D:D
Nutty! You put my supersock monkey on! BUT! You also put a pic of another one on and now I dont know which I like best to buy!
Kitti - shared school run must be ace, but not as good as getting the giggles:D:D
Tealady - thank you for the welcome, and how did you manage to get change from a bargain!!!!!! Thats awesome! How do you do your gnoochi thingy?
Lady - were we seperated at birth! how does thatday stealing happen when we arent looking! Sorry you had a long day tho, but I do agree someone steals the days when we turn our backs! I know your knees ache :S When I ski its hips and knees, I can barely make it up or down stairs! (makes me sound so old lol!) but think of the fab time! And the vid rocks!
My meagre 5! *thinks, goes and gets another brandy, and some lentil pate!*
1) cooked off 6 of the free sample pie thingys and they worked!
2) had new staff starting their "shadow week" with existing staff and all went erm... ok
3) this weeks experiments specials board wise are looking good! And someone left a lovely trip advisor comment too boot!
4) Going back to sparrers comment, and im not doing a ninja on pleasures but! I logged friends reunited after a few years and their were messages!
5) my girlies with their fluffy bums, and lovely eggs! It was rainy today so they complained at me all the time, even tho I gave them apple crumble leftovers - there are no pleasing some hens!
Jex
