mcculloch - thanks for the reassurance re:Frith! Hoping You are well?
greywitch - 17mo grandson & tree? Now that's just the most exhausting fun you can have! Home made soup - now that's an idea I will snaffle & run with.
CCP - thank you for the frog shelter link! Yeay the comp wins! Awed at your ability to guide customer services to the light of reason - hope they redeliver perishables, in time, to the right address!
Skint yet Again - so sorry your uncle has been gathered - I'll be holding you in my thoughts.
Purple kitten - great to spend good times with father & well done on cards! "Festive bacon" eh?! Love being paid to shop effectively & hope specialty food restores poorly ferrets.
VickyA - you're going to learn Dutch? Splendid! Frozen for the first time? Gosh.
mhagster - dratted lost post. Glad for useful rain & long dog walk! All this biting of tongue - may the coming year bring resolution before you leave a job you're wonderful at. Well done being there for DD2, & oh pup& socks... Have a lovely family-together time! Aww Haggis baffled by range of sociable dogs.
Tealady - so glad work has returned to almost civilised in time for Christmas! Hurrah for Sleigh tradition! Well done on a skillfully filled present cupboard. Hurrah for good times with Rainbows (hearing should be back in time for Christmas) & you should not dread work.
BoP - you wear the apron & take the palm. Fingers crossed fori nterview. Sprouts duly on, looking forward to seeing town vivid scarlet!
VJSmum - happy birthday for then! Hope the Lakes up to hopes. Children talking, pigeon, "random" win (indulgent chuckle), oooh cheeses!
Broomstick - please may I have a copy of your list too? I've iPlayer cleared down ready for Good Omens over Christmas. Less gas & more electricity? Meter reading worth the effort! Pegging washing by torchlight almost as eccentric as planting by touch (Hope weather lets me get fruit bushes in tomorrow!)
lovefullshelves - great to see you! Have another cupcake & step away from the cherry 7up - you know that's just a repackaged chemistry set! Frivolity is not unaffordable, it's *essential*, but it doesn't have to cost you a penny. (Watch a squirrel? Tickle a toddler? whistle at a lit candle & watch it jive?)
bagpuss - right with you on being a bit patchy at the essentials. All wrapped? <Awe!>
ampersand - the dfv family lurches quite a bit but the tombstone will definitely read "it worked for us". Here we can delight in the good things & get support amidst the tougher things. How soon before we can get Raffles to multitask on yellow stuff AND wifi, d'you reckon? Or is Fen interweb powered by pk's ferrets? Eep postage but great big bundles of wonder have such cachet. Bed needs conversion - know that one. Hurrah to make acquaintance of Ruby & her family & enjoy the glow!
sparrer - new tech! And Paddington - oh my! Squirrel teasing cats? The impudence is in proportion to the tail! "welcome to the 21st c"?! However, sort of has a point.
villagelife - absolutely right to run the freezer stocks down a bit to get the Festive bargains. Wonderful what a few lights can do for mood!
Chickenopolis - you spoil that man - a Macbook pro is nice tech & very canny buying! Dog *chose* bath? He's well?!
Frith - delighted you had a good time at Wigmore Castle. Glorious gatehouse. Strictly...

    OS Pleasures
Listening to my sons do a very cut down Christmas card list (all of 7 cards & envelopes, and they're whimpering....!)

Watching my man just croon over a new tool. The smith is rightly proud of it & now it's exactly handled as Himself wants it.

All menfolk curled up like pups watching some film.

Had to explain to mother about hand & we were able to sort *loads* of current family email addresses. My stash of Christmas cards can just wait til another year.

Eying the bright red long rugby socks my sister got me last year for stockings, and checking where the balloons are. Anticipating is fun too.

Son crept up on me clutching a sweetie tin & a mug of tea. Sweetie tin had my painkillers in, as well as a carefully chosen sweet. Awww!

Found someone else's work on uncle-by-marriage's family tree & copied chunks across, working up the female line first as the maiden name is the first to get lost. (Thank you for reminding me how much Fun it is, Frith!)

Great big hugs to those who needs them, may hot water bottles, warm fires & heartwarming conversations/ chuckles/ lights/ memories come to hand when sought (or not) and may these next lengthening days tick through with affection & tolerance & pleasure!
  • OMG. The trains are no running. We're in the Woolpack. The purse is being emptied. BoPsie is on the proper stuff. Ale. Real. Painting.

    Happy days. Christmas has started.
  • Mchags: Sorry your work day was naff, but glad today was better or is it now yesterday…
    For Yesterday
    1. DH snoozed while I was apparently in the deepest sleep known to man.
    2. Got up and watched possibly the best film I have ever seen for a recent film “the world’s fastest Indian”
    3. We went over to visit some friends and I vented and put the world to rights, the reason why I was venting is my DF is deteriorating fast now and some people have shown their true colours, but a pleasure to be able to vent.
    4. We ate to much chocolate but had fun
    5. A couple of 20p fresh fruit salads finished off, they were lovely, a balanced diet followed by smartie cookies
    For Today
    1. Bacon sarnie
    2. DH decorated the car with tinsel!!!!, and changed all of the ferret bedding to the Christmas HM fleece hammocks.
    3. I deep cleaned the upstairs with the help of a zoom groom and neutradol, then put our fleece bedding on don’t think we will be rushing to get up again lol, was able to hoover in the “box room” for once.
    4. Tidied up upstairs in general, dusted, cared for the plants, just about to go and vinegar and newspaper all the mirrors and the upstairs is all clean for Christmas
    5. Home made curry and hm sauce it was nice with a touch of hot to try and clear the last of the bug.
    6. 4 loads of washing done, 2 dried to hanging about drying

    Good evening everyone :hello:

A busy weekend, but a good one.

    My pleasures:
    1) Farmers' Market in the town yesterday. Got some cheese for the Christmas Day cheeseboard, all from local producers. My father then asked for Camembert. Tough, doesn't fit into my local plan - and I'm buying it, so he'll have to just do without it!

    2) Saw The Nutcracker, from the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow, on a live stream into the cinema/arts centre near my parents. Stunning.

    3) My friend and her mother were sitting next to us! Meant I could catch up with her as she's just returned from Dubai for the Christmas period.

    4) Started to wrap presents... :j

    5) Strictly Come Dancing final last night. Loved it.

    Night all x

Mum was at the live nutcracker screening in dundee vickya sez it was absolutely fab. Not sure how it's got so long since my last post. Been mega busy and reading posts but not getting round to posting.
    1) friday had to go to glasgow to get 2nd passport. Saw then 9:30, they said come back at 1 for passport so of course had to spend time christmas shopping :-) and since 2nd passpor only needed for work can claim back travel and cost of emergency passport
    2) singing at friend's friday evening. Another friend gave me a lift. He drives vintage buses for a living and came in his uniform. My very own chauffeur! Shame it wasnt the 1966 routemaster
    3) nativity rehearsal and brass polishing saturday morning. Was feeling a little lonesome on way home when i bumped into a friend i havent seen for ages. She invited me over to hers for a cuppa. Had a bacon roll, chats and before we knew where we were it was 7! So good to catch up
    4) shortest day today but pretty long as nativity this morning then lunch with cathedral friends then back to set up for candlelit carols then service.
    5) watched headhunters. Rather bloody but very clever story. Cant believe though it's a 15!

Not long got home so pleasures for today (Sunday).

    1) Bit of a lie in.

    2) Sons off to their father's in a relatively organised fashion with toothbrushes etc.

    3) Ate quite a lot of Christmas cake with the HM royal icing from last night.

    4) Friday's left over chicken casserole for my lunch.

    5) Changed beds, did 3 loads of washing, tidied etc.

    6) Spent the evening at sister and brother in laws playing K2 board game and eating curry. Sister now just short of 35 weeks pregnant.

    7) Saw a tiny deer in the hedgerow as I drove home. I don't think it was a muntjac, more a young one of the native varieties.

Hey from hot and humid land!

Today was a day off ( with innumerable calls and texts re work!) , woke up at 4am but did not get up! Dozed again until 7am ish which is a long lie.

Called friend from home and tidied as I talked.

Walked dog over to vets to book an appointment for neutering tomorrow ...poor soul but want it done whilst OH is on holiday. Nothing to eat from 8pm tonight....anyone want to explain that to a permanently hungry Labrador ?

Did my fruit and veg shop locally, very busy in our tiny one street of shops!
Bought sunflowers and cherries.....very seasonal ( in Australia! )

Popped into salvos and got a lovely wrap dress, a skirt and a nice top for my work night out tonight ...half price at $2.50 thank you!

Girls went out and about with Dd1's friend, I gave her $10 towards her petrol costs.....hopefully setting an example to my daughters to do the same next time!

Popped into next town with DD2( yep ,the expensive child) I had a gift to buy for bosses daughter for tonight. Took DD to get her nails done, this is a Christmas present and as a nail biter hopefully a deterrent for her! She got acrylic nails and shellac polish....this was a whole new world for me, I've only had my nails painted twice in my life at a salon. I'm a very low maintenance kind of girl! I was a bit freaked by the process but she is happy and has been reminded that it's for Christmas .

Confirmation call from restaurant for tonight...yep we'll be there...then the texts start to come in! Surely you know before 6pm whether you're going to make it or not ( and I'm sure this was from the person who has me for secret santa.... Bah humbug Mhags! )

Anyway , I'd better get myself sorted out, it turns out I no longer have the skirt I had planned to wear.....obviously gave it away when I'd lost weight which has slowly crept on again. So need to rethink what I will wear.

My displeasure for today....went into the garden to pick some flowers for a posy for front room , calmly arranging them in the kitchen ,when I felt something crawling up my bare back ( had a vest top on...it's hot, had I mentioned that?) oh dear, I was sure it was a spider and was screaming for son to come to my aid.....his name over and over again! It's just a mantis said he! So now I have a mantis somewhere in my kitchen! I was sobbing hysterically by this time and cursing Australia! Poor dog was rather confused by my reaction.

    Have a fabulous day :)

    Pleasures for the weekend:

    1) A couple of nice long lie-ins with Isis snoring by my side.

    2) What seemed to be the start of a cold cleared within 36 hours, so was obviously just a minor case of sniffles.

    3) Treated myself to an Indian takeaway on Saturday night, and the portions were so big that there was enough for Sunday night's dinner too.

    4) Prezzies wrapped while watching the showjumping from Olympia.
Back after a very long break!

BoPsie, who helped paint town red last eve, unfortunately this mourning has a suffering ache in her head. I advised her she should ...
