Today has been good as not been at work.

    1. Met a friend while I was walking my dog this morning and her tests have come back clear which is good news and made walking in very heavy rain better.

    2. Made soup for lunches next week.

    3. Listening to the woodpecker while I was gardening and the owls while walking the dog this evening.

    4. House is tidy - may not be in a couple of hours when DS2 and DH are home.

    5. My flowers are still looking good.

    Pleasures for yesterday:

    1) Did some work on another ghost story I'm writing, for another competition, then entered a load of competitions. One day I'm going to have to do some actual work during my working hours and it will come as a nasty shock!

    2) Got home and remembered to turn off my alarm as I had a day off today and didn't need it. :j

    3) Did an online focus group, which I agreed to for the £30 participation fee but found actually quite good fun.

    4) Then pub quiz, at which we came fourth, gaining me a bottle of cider (currently being drunk ).

    5) Walking home to the sound of waves crashing on the beach.

    And for today:

    1) Woken early by a flash of lightening and crash of thunder, rolled over and went back to sleep, waking up several hours later to find Isis asleep on my feet. :)

    2) An unexpected and rather odd-shaped parcel turned out to be a competition prize / freebie - a full-size sample of a new salad / vegetable dressing.

    3) Appointment with a nice GP who has referred me for an official NHS hearing test; I've had an unofficial one with a private company which showed I have some hearing loss, so just need it confirmed as a 'so there' to my line manager / colleagues who complain I talk too loudly (because I can't properly hear my own voice over the amount of noise they all make ).

    4) Fancied pizza for dinner but decided to be good and get an A$da one rather than a takeaway. :money:

    5) The afore mentioned cider, beautifully cool from being in the fridge overnight.

Have a lovely Friday evening, all.
Back after a very long break!
  • have not bad day today although went to hosp about shoulder gave me injection in joint which will help but may have to have small operation next year:eek:
weve had fox digging in garden near chicken house its well protected but will have to keep eye out
made bread this morning and butternut sweet potato and chilli soup for dinner
have gone through probationary period of three month on new job so wages gone up this month:D
we have a little robin coming down same time every day for his titbits
  • I did write up different pleasures, but while I made tea a ferret decided to surf the web and my post is nowhere to be found!!:rotfl:
Chicken: To right trying to clear the freezer down to make way for festive goodies
Ampersand: Sounds like you had nice company
    1. We were up very early cleaning tidying and fixing places I never realised got cobwebs, we had been deep cleaning bedroom and hallway for 2 hours prior to the mattress turning up at 8am:eek: with some very surly delivery chaps but they took the old mattress and the new one is wonderful. It also lead onto yet more cleaning and white gloss for the hallway radiator and white paint for a cubby hole that was going to be rebuilt but we didn’t get round to it.
    2. Then I needed to plough on and do year end information for work
    3. Lots of people popping by to pick up all the things I freegled, I did think about selling one of the items but it’s been clutter so long I was glad to get it re distributed, now the kitchen clutter is all gone.
    4. The car is in pieces on purpose so had to go for a walk to pick up the car part but it was nice bird watching and meandering.
    5. Freezer extract today was bread for lunch which was horrible and a big pork joint that was taken out yesterday and is slowly cooking away this evening for a very late roastie dinner this evening.;)
    6. While DH is outside and the dinner is cooking away, kitchen floor was washed, and more cobwebs removed, I am happy to live in harmony with spiders but at the moment they are doing a takeover bid.:)

    Evening all :)

Bit of a catch up for the last few days

    1. Loved following the Rosetta mission landing and it's aftermath :) The cooperation and team work it took almost seemed more awesome than the science and engineering.

    2. One solitary flower has suddenly appeared in the garden: long spindly stem, deep coral in colour and shaped a bit like a crocus. Could it be an autumn crocus? Whatever it is, it's very pretty and in complete contrast to everything else busy dying back all around it!

    3. Sorting paperwork in front of the fire - makes the job much more pleasant.

    4. More phone calls and texts with DS1.

    5. Entered a whole bunch of competitions today. There seemed to be a load of emails about good ones that arrived in my inbox in a cluster this morning.

    oh and
    6. Am on the Streetbank mailing list and someone is proposing to give something away every day for the 24 days of advent. I like that idea.

Back to the sorting... and a DVD on in the background.

Get better all (((((you poorly ones))))). Give in to the bugs, rest, drink and keep warm. It works, I'm now feeling much better. :)

    Sweet dreams

    1. Up early to surgery for a blood test, lovely phlebotomist who barely made a pinprick or a scratch.
    2. Doing some kitchen cleaning this morning I retrieved the steamer from the back of a cupboard, gave it a good clean and gave it a trial run with my dinner this evening. It's been put away for at least 5 years and it still works perfectly so another money-saving item back in use.
    3. Threw some sad veg into the sc before I went out, blitzed it later and had a delicious veg, mainly broccoli, garlic and cheese soup for lunch with a slice of hm seeded wm bread. Very filling and very tasty indeed! Plenty left for the freezer so more yummy and inexpensive lunches to look forward to.
    4. A friend dropped in for a cuppa this afternoon, we enjoyed hm sultana scones with some of DD's hm quince jelly. The second was just as good as the first :o
    5. It rained, and it rained, and it rained this morning, then just as my friend was due to arrive the sun came out and brightened up all the orange, yellow, white, red, purple and cerise winter bedding in the garden. it did look stunning, a beautiful free show of gorgeous sparkling colour.

    Sweet dreams :)

    Pleasures for yesterday (Friday)

    1) Not a bad sleep though bigger son sleepwalked at 1.30 and had a shower. :-/ He woke up sitting on the sofa downstairs, fully dressed so slept down there.

    2) Smaller son survived a plain clothes day at school. He absolutely hates not going in uniform.

    3) Took some photos/ancient slides to the local photo place for printing out A4 size for mum and dad's 70th birthday party (next weekend).

    4) Took sons to the barbers and after the usual refusals to get out of the car/they might see someone from school/how much they loathe going, they had a fair amount cut off.

    5) Bigger son went role playing with my brother and brother in law.

    6) Smaller son and I had cheating ready meals for tea and sat around doing nothing marvelling how quiet it was!

    7) Watched Gogglebox.

    8) Emailed from nice builder and he has written a report about how bad the bathroom is and put in a quote of how much it would cost to put it right - £1750! On Monday I will give Trading Standards another ring so I word the letter properly then it has to be sent with the nice builder's info by recorded delivery. Have heard nothing from original builders since the "we're taking you to court" email on Tuesday.

On way out, one victory to the good already, same shaped ball, diff. code - and against Oz, super savoreux:-).
But this is &'s top of the bill pleasure:

    1. '8) Emailed from nice builder and he has written a report about how bad the bathroom is and put in a quote of how much it would cost to put it right - £1750! On Monday I will give Trading Standards another ring so I word the letter properly then it has to be sent with the nice builder's info by recorded delivery. Thankyou Frith:-)

    2. Banking done with meaty pre-match talk with S. - & in advisory capacity for albion vs 'boks, before the main match of the day. & is now coaching ScotlandCotter, EireS-c-h-m-i-d-t, WalesGatland and is available to assist with Lancaster's re-training/jobshare. Today I lace Dan's beautiful boots.

    3. Birds are out in force this morning - merles, robins, wrens, dunnocks, doves, wood pigeons, woodpeckers, greenfinch, long-tailed tits. Grass getting longer and soggier and no likely 'last mow' conditions in sight yet.

    4. Tindalls rang another Branch for &'s fountain pen ink - burgundy/claret, any brand, is hen's teeth these days. Mont Blanc long gone from shops. Last bottle elsewhere set aside for collection later. Better do that pre-Alma:-).

    5. Up street as & headed to w8rs for The Cup That Refreshes, surely that was J coming towards?.....Yes, and how weary she looked. But her S. IS out of hospital, shares name and &'s charity b/g with person prev. referred to. Said taking that good news back would be welcome. &'s note received in week, with usual family effort required over 3 days to decipher &'s interesting handwriting....told her they were way down long list of Members of that Club, not remotely exclusive. Hugs and sharing - little enough but & makes her laugh. Prayers for both S's ongoing.

    6. Thick misty plungey black dark v. early hier. Hoisted sacks of bunny carrots from stables and couldn't see a thing. Made drive back feel hours long and unfamiliar. Strange air and time-shifty feeling. hwb and bed felt friendly.

Hello there, have to share in &'s joy at Frith's Nice Builders, yippee and yippee. I have been lucky, nobody has ever tried to rip me off. My friend got ripped off though, £1500 for a shoddy tack-on plastic sheets to already rotting wood fascia board job. The house was sold shortly afterwards so it wasn't an ongoing problem.
Most tradesmen at the house become aware of Dr C's presence, 6'5'' of extremely muscular man looming probably helps to focus their minds on doing a good job...

    1. The wonderfully kind woman who, seeing me struggle up the road with arthritic hip and non-co-operative granny trolley on Thursday gave me a lift of some 300 yards to the nearest bus stop, which is where I was headed. New trolley is on order, one with a seat, brakes and a back rest.

    2. My first bus trip in a year was to meet up with a former student, now a friend, for coffee and to re-investigate the shops in the town where I used to teach. It was lovely to see her and to chat.
She has a difficult life at the moment, she lives with her grandmother and now demented grandfather. The grandmother is reluctant to place him in to care but it's headed that way. My friend gets an average of 2-3 hours sleep a night thanks to Grandad. In addition to this she also does the school run and cares after school for her niece, with grandmother's help, when gfather isn't present.

    3. The X Catalogue shop came up with the usual plethora of unbelievable bargains. I have a new festive jumper - well 2, but one 'Christmassy' one is made of such cuddly fleece it will be worn in bed. The festive one is a long grey, loose-ish knit with sequins in, and a panda face.
I also have four new pairs of trousers. 1 needlecord jeans style, 1 chino-style, 1 pair with super-stretch fabric and gathered ankles that will be great to cycle in and a pair of Joanna Hope black linen trousers that will match a suit jacket I have. They cost £3.49. Jumper was £15, total cost of bargains was £42 - half of which was 2 jumpers. 4 pairs of trousers for £21 is charity shop prices, but these are new!!

    4. Sparrer got her steamer out, :D well my soup maker out for the first time this cold season and loads of delicious spicy dal made. It was so thick it was dal rather than lentil broth. Dr C. polished off vast amounts. I was going to order a travel soup/casserole mug from River for him at some £6. Home Bargains have them for 79p, and I bought two. He will be able to take soups etc to work with him.

    5. I always enjoy Children in Need. It was the usual tug on the emotions. This year it was a totally adorable five year old called Joe who having survived with an artificial heart for longer than anyone else now had a new heart. I had bought the 'All Stars' charity single, I nearly always do get the single each year, but donated more after seeing Joe reduced me to tears.
