Just a quick update:
1) A long sleep!
2) Woken at 10am by sons who had been dropped off by their father to pick something up (can't remember what it was now!)
3) Worked on the family tree. Nearly done!
4) Went on the allotment. The cheapo greenhouse was damaged beyond repair in a storm a fortnight or so back so I took it down. :-( That meant scrapping the tomato plants that were inside so we have about 20 red tomatoes here and 40+ green ones. Also took home all the onions (had been on a rack in the greenhouse), lots of rainbow chard, parsnips, carrots, turnips and a few puny beetroot.
5) Popped to Sainsburys. Got the shopping and a new cardboard box for the cats.
6) Sons came home and hadn't been made any tea. So we had mashed potatoes, chipolatas and saut!ed rainbow chard. It was really nice! Then 12 tiny pancakes (YS down to 5p for 6) with blueberries, raspberries and maple syrup.0 -
We had a really busy weekend here so it all seems to have rolled into one. I don't think I can think of ten things though! So here's as many as I can think of for the whole weekend:
1. Attended a party where someone I really don't get along with was also there and I was pretty anxious about it but all went well in the end.
2. Got done up in favourite vintage dress and set my hair which is something I love doing.
3. Received a few compliments which is always lovely, especially for my hair so time taken putting rag rolls in the night before was worth it!
4. Woke up this morning without a hangover as was drinking lemonade last night. So felt good and saved pennies. Liver as well as purse thanks me.
5. Went to amazing singing workshop today which was so much fun and I'm so proud of myself at how much my voice has progressed over just the past year. Love singing. Also the event was FREE!!
6. Was starving and we contemplated going for dinner out after leaving the workshop but came home and OH made vegetarian paprikas out of things left in the fridge which meant I didn't spend any money today.
7. Also I got to relax while OH cooked as was so tired from all excitement.
8. Snuggled up to catch up with Dr Who finale on sofa with OH and full tummy.Vintage loving, allotment holding, low waste living. Indi = DH. Maisie Bones = fur baby
Credit Card paid off = 02/04/2018
Bank of Mum loan = £450

Just in, from reading 1st chapter of JG Ballard's autobiography to ME person nearish[not bunny neighbour]. This will be ongoing. Was returning from
1. ...sundown Grand Prix listening in one of &'s nowherelands, green tea thermos, post-w8rs 1/2 price cracker buying for enzed famberley[yes, know it's ridicule] etc.etc.
Saw Dr's vehicle o/s ME person's place and therefore stopped. Person has not been answering landline. Cannot always lift arm or turn to phone. Vicar discussed with & a while back. Also maintains frequent contact. Suggested mtg about a month ago. Thus we are where we tonight are....
2. An AB/Scout mix footnote, tangential only, dfv, but another of mcculloch's coincidentals:
Scouts, Brownies, Beavers all bore in various standards this morning. Remembrance Service. Always turbulence for &, but id'd the proud boy who must be son of best friend of someone in rugby pub yesterday.[comes right on 2nd run-through]
In The Alma, we are a loose group, meeting only in the heaving scrum of this great place for personally vital matches[ABs, Ireland[Joe Sch-midt -mse won't accept his surname???- Coach], Toulon, Glasgow, France, Shelford].
&, impeccably scarved and flagged over vestments of black+discreet solid silver kiwi, was again warmly greeted. One known-from-last-haka-occasion lady said 'You're from x village.' I am indeed. She saw me while driving to her best friend, mother of godson noted this morning, hence barely-valid Scouts segue:-)
Then arose talk of 'free Guinness if you're watching a match from your fave rugby pub' app....'BUT', said same lady, 'As you're from village x, I know you can't get anything there'. She then proceeded to regale all and sundry with her own primitive experience of useless &village connectivity during week, crowning it triumphantly, 'and it was on the National newds last week - RADIO 4!!! I rang and it turned out [best friend] had just tried to ring me and tell me, but...'[here came the killer line] 'she couldn't get her phone to work!'
& said how pleased she was to hear A Stranger say all of this unprompted.
Saves repeat bleat.[you've had it anyway].
& has never tasted Guinness.
No app. will alter that:-)
3. ...and then we won:-)))))))))))))))))))))))), unpretty but Doing-the-Necessary, Mask of Janus in 2nd half with gears left in box.....24-21.

As it's a knowledgeable heaving crowd in The Alma, all agreed, even more so at the end, and even more so with this from Steve Hansen:

Has Cruden redeemed himself for pick next match?....& can't say so, and yet one fantastic kick was a stonker[& Manual:Chapter Dark Arts Technical: p.1949] at a critical momemtum moment.
Guessed we would have the Kapa O Pango haka
http://www.bloggeratlarge.com/new-zealand/all-blacks-kapa-o-pango-haka-translated/
and was pleased. Who has lead the haka like Piri Weepu?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S92KA3RKguU
& knows them, lives them in The Alma...it's alright, none of you are my infants to be embarrassed.
Cap'n McCaw over the line, Faumuina's 1st AB try, a fantastic 15-man/22-phase prolonged team effort=glorious. The Alma were saluting such play en masse and not grudgingly, even as it relentlessly rolled and their hearts sank before the inevitable.
Then fabulous results from Ireland and Scotland. Great day of ballon ovale, preceded by 2 tighties from NZ Maoris and even League![heartbreaking for whoever had to lose that one].
Is that enuf rugger mugger torque?
[Thankyou &, don't call us; we'll defo. not call you.]

Chickenopolis- surprisingly, the garage was Kwk Ft! I know, I never thought I'd trust them but the two chaps who run it are great. I admit to having taken my car to another mechanic my parents use (miles away from where we live) over the summer and he said exactly the same as the Kwk Ft chaps.
My pleasures for today:
1) Went to see the rugby. Fantastic (read: we won!).
2) Booked flights & tickets to see them in France. Beside myself with excitement and realise that this is precisely why I've been saving all year. It'll all be worth it as we get strapped to the wing of the Rianair plane.
3) Finished my planning. Took forever, but it's all ready for tomorrow.
4) My cake for tomorrow night is cooling. We have the theme of "Boozy Bakes", so mine is a gin and tonic cake. Licking the bowl was interesting!!!
5) Watching the last episode of Downton. Love it so much!Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -
Evening all.
Pleasures for today
1 fairly lazy morning, I didn't have a hangover - OH not so lucky
2 made the best loaf of sourdough so far - and a banana loaf
3 got a better bathroom quote from wickes. And the name of a plumber from a friend
4 Downton nearly finished - quite a relief. Not least because I can then escape from the never ending stream of Christmas adverts
5 OH cooked tea - Barnsley chops (or charnsley Bop as we say), potatoes and carrots roasted with rosemary and garlic and some veg. Yum
Night allI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Evening all
Thanks for the various reminders about Downton. I'll catch up on that later.
Five pleasures for Sunday:
1. Drove DS1 into town to catch a train 'Up North'. We were expecting roads to be difficult because of Remembrance events but they were easy and, as the sun was heating the ground up, the mist rising off the fields was beautiful.
2. Sat and nattered with DS1 in the car because we got there so early and he went and bought me a decaff cappuccino.:) He's now arrived safely after a hassle free journey and will be away for the week.
3. Am fighting off a grotty cold and have spent much of the afternoon giving in to it with the fire lit, snuggled with fleeces in an armchair and watching iplayer and snoozing.
4. Had leek and spud soup with grated cheese on top for supper - exactly what I needed.
5. Rang my parents and chatted with my dad again. He's talking more about his childhood and the way the world has changed. If he's up for it, I'd like to record him remembering all this stuff. Am going to ask DS2 to dig out our recording machine and make sure I know how it works. Left me feeling quite pensive tonight but in a good kind of way.
Sweet dreams and keep warm

Mhags oh dear, your poor shoes! Thank goodness the cobbler was able to make them wearable for you. Reminds me of when my then lab pup got into my wardrobe, it's funny now but he too was lucky keep his life
villagelife congrats on the rugby win. Flowers are almost guaranteed to put one in a happy frame of mind aren't they?
Frith sorry to hear about the greenhouse:-( but well done for managing to rescue the produce. I was quite impressed with the DiY too, who needs men?
Vicky thank goodness for honest garages, they seem to be few and far between. Good for you helping to save what could have been an uncomfortable situation for one of your friends.
Vjsmum thanks, the ci has almost gone. Thank you for posting the photo's, I wanted to go but couldn't because of the ci so I was really grateful to see them from a 'private' camera iyswim, rather than just a glimpse on the news. 'Involved breaking out some fittings' - what a good excuse for having a new bathroom. Thank you for the help on posting photo's, just trying to add to the moggy gallery. I'll try again.
BoP well done Bopsie for seeking out the bargains, Raffles will love her all the more if that's possible. I love your blow by blow account of Scrabble, I can almost hear the commentator's voice getting higher and higher with excitement as it nears the end
Kittikins hot chocolate after tennis on an Autumn day sounds perfect. Love cs bookshelves, you can find some real treasures there
Chicken goodness , scissor sisters  !!!!! Pleased your muttley is happy to stay with your DM as you've had her tiny terrier so often, nice to have interactive dogs
CCP Good to hear Isis is on the mend, hope her ego wasn't too bruised at the cobweb incident. The little dog your met there sounds really cute.
PK I watched Gogglebox for the first time this week, loved it! Sorry to hear about the flea infestation, hope your furries don't suffer any after-effects
Broomstick get better now! What a very good idea to record reminiscences by our older relatives, such a shame so many stories of years gone by get lost with the passing of each generation.
& pleased you managed to recover your sweater and that it's still wearable.
1. An amazing day yesterday with my new-found granddaughter, her partner and my 6 month old great-granddaughter. They only live three stops away by train so have promised to come again soon with the 3 and 4 year olds (who were visiting other relatives yesterday as DGD1 thought all of them might be too much all at once. Never!). So much to talk about, tell each other what's happened during the past 21 years, yet still so much catching up to do. Also a relief they liked my cooking, there was very little left of both dinner and tea. Her OH put my new carpet shampooer together, he had it done in minutes, I've been putting it off for weeks! He served in Afghanistan and Iraq so I was pleased he wanted to watch the Festival of Remembrance, something I never miss. Got to bed just after midnight, a very happy and contented Grandma
2. A lay in this morning til 8.30am, cleared away the last dishes from yesterday and had a lazy breakfast of hm wm toast and chunky marmalade.
3. Watched the service at the Cenotaph, remembering also all the members of my family who served. I was silent for 2 minutes! Not even one word to the furries, who I usually chatter away aimlessly to almost all the time. Maybe they thought I was ill...:p
4. Drove to the nearby town to meet friends, wore my DM's very precious RBL brooch which is only given to people with long service. Had to pass 5 churches and each one was overflowing with cars outside. Good to see (but a shame it's not like that every Sunday). Had a good lunch of lasagne, very garlicky bread and salad. Still full after yesterday and today's huge food intake so definitely no tea or supper needed
5. Three phone calls from friends this evening, lots of meetings arranged for the coming week including two visits to rehab centres for informal talks. Better brush up on my speaking voice!
Sweet dreams0 -
Frankie
Sorry it's so big, don't know how to resize yet but at least I've learned how to get it on the page! Thanks to VJsmum0 -
Ooh a day off again? Yes please!
Phone call to friend, who's having a tough time at the moment, so I'm glad to be a listening ear.
Swimming with DD1.... Had to go and buy a swimming cap as I was scared my newly dyed hair might react to chlorine! Swam 50 breadths ( I don't like going out my depth) and then went in sauna and steam room ( very briefly) ....anyway, hair stayed dry, lots of other old fogies had them on so I didn't look too odd!
Then we went for a head, neck and shoulder massage....oh, ow, ee, argh, ah....silently I hope, although I did say at one point that's too sore! However, they are helping .
We went to the supermarket sized charity shop...complete with shopping trolleys, where everything is laid out in clothing type ( eg dresses) , size and colour so it's very easy to find things. We got DD1 her Valedictory Dinner ( like graduation) dress, in the most gorgeous shade of muted teal ( if that's such a colour) and I got 3 pairs of cropped trousers/ jeans and a book for OHs Christmas .
We came home, then straight back out and found her birthday party dress in another op shop.....brand new and rtc for $10 ( about £5) so she's all sorted, she's not bothered they're from an op shop and I'm quite happy not to be forking out silly money on dresses for one night!
Posted a letter to my letter writing friend and returned a book and borrowed a few more from the library.
Then had a siesta on the porch sofa with my dog!
Then....no wonder I need a siesta!.....DD2 needed me to take her to next town to get her a SIM card ( need ID) as OH got a new phone and she was getting his old one. Anyway, a very kindly chappy, helped us out and didn't charge us for it
Then home and DD2 washed the new to us garden chairs that DD1 and I procured last night! Someone in the street had put them out as , what we call hard rubbish. This goes out on your grass verge and will be collected by council but it's commonly known that people can help themselves. She'd been at a friends on her bike and had seen them on the way home, so we went out ...in pitch black ...and 'to me, to you'd all the way home! They are not brand new, obviously , but will be just fine for DDs party!
Then .....I made cupcakes for party. These are uncooked and in the freezer for now, have made vanilla , strawberry and chocolate. I wrote an extensive to do list last night, went out to get chairs and came back in and pup had eaten my list!
I'm trying very hard to watch Downton...Internet is being very slow, so very stoppy/ starty.
I do hope you have a lovely day0 -
