Oh dear Frith, I do feel for you. As marmite says take all the photos from all the angles of all the work, inside and out if they've done anything out there. Have a good look at the paper they gave you, was it an estimate or a quote? I would suggest you don't let them do another thing until you've spoken to the foreman/manager/owner in the morning. I would also use that other phone number and get your kitchen man to come and quote you for making good and the rest of the work. Most important is you don't part with one more penny! Don't let them make any changes which might add to the cost. Remember who is the boss here, who is paying for the work, and who has the final say. Don't be fobbed off with excuses that this or that should be done. They sound like a gang of cowboys and personally I wouldn't allow them in my house again unless it's to put right when they've messed up, free of charge.
Good luck, I really hope you can sort it out amicably0 -

Dearest Frith, I want to say please don't let them back in your house. Say 'stop' and don't pay them, but people can be aggressive so take care and do what you think, but don't be a pushover. Can you get someone around.

BOP: So glad it went well, fingers crossed.
Ampersand thank you for sending some luck my way, see below, perhaps not in the way I quite planned but lucky none the less.
1.I don’t know where to start with today’s peculiar pleasures as I have to stop my leaving countdown:o, after an “odd” call I was told paperwork is being processed for an exception to extend me:p, my response “oh”:o I had to give an immediate response to did I want it, it's basically the budget I didn’t use by being unwell is available to me for 6 weeks,:o I don’t have anything to go to, it takes us to the beginning of the festive season, I would have been a fool to say no, DH seems happy both ways, so hmm ignore me I’m apparently working and can’t complain as I will effectively be working and looking for job:T. But my emotions are all over the place:eek: I am happy but I was also happy winding down, today I was thinking oh this is the last time I will need to do this…:)
2. Popped to lidl for their mop special offer that started today, and picked up an easy chicken discounted put in the oven type thing and more Christmas bits.;)
3.Made a batch of puff pastry apple and cinnamon tarts, cheating a bit as using up any pastry bought rtc in the freezer but it needs using, makes them nigh on free I reckon barring the cost of cooking them of course but not being an expert they ended up with slightly “soggy bottoms”, I should have kept it colder and cooked it hotter reading up on it, nigella I'm not..:rotfl:
4.Working at home tomorrow.
5. Sorted out an old account to be activated by chatting to on the phone to them so it’s all sorted, pleasure to be off the to do list0 -
Fingers x'ed for you BoP sounds a bit like the old school tie system
Frith I'm praying for you that the mess gets sorted out quickly
mhags Happy 4th Anniversary, you've all been through so much, and been tested no end since your move, that it's heartwarming to see a family so strong together.
tumptyteapot it's definitely OS if you used a budget airline, or got a good deal on the fare
PK just read your post, well done on the 'reprieve', if you're going to have one this is definitely the right time of year!
1. DD phoned, did I want to go to a large independent garden centre on Weds as she has an invitation to their closing down sale (pre refurb) before the public are let in at the weekend? As if I'd refuse a trip to a garden centre!!!!!
2. Took the new white valance sheets out of their packets to put away in the airing cupboard but they were so creased I tried ironing them, gave up and put them through a light wash before ironing them damp. They're now crease free and a lot softer. All my red bedlinen has gone to next doors DD for her new flat (but I think her DM has taken one set for herself, she's always admired it)
3. deflea'd and wormed all the furries. Strange cats, they took their tablets like sweeties, while the dog-who-will-eat anything spat his out! No worries, I have cheese
4. Just realised it's my turn to do the dinner party in December, a group of five of us take turns to do one every month. How exciting, I'm not going to mention the C-word but I'm going to go to town with the table and food. Planning already
5. I know I'm repeating myself but I keep popping into my bedroom to admire it. It's giving me pleasure today and will for a long time to come. DS-i-L is coming on Saturday to put up the curtain pole so I can hang the olive green silk curtains, then I'll be able to sleep in there! I'm only next door but I do miss my bedroom.
Unfortunately the friend who did my decorating didn't really the do the doors very well, not being over fussy but they're all runs and bubbles so I phoned a friend of DD today who is a professional decorator (he did my lounge beautifully) and he's coming to see what, if anything can be done to save them. He said it does sound like new doors though. I can't say anything to my friend as she was kind enough to offer and having seen her house I thought she would be fine. So disappointed, though. But nothing like as desperate as Frith's situation for which I'm grateful.
Sweet dreams, hope everything works out for everyone in a fix or waiting situation0 -
Thanks, everyone (and VJsmum). Just emailing photos off to my friend now who is going to do the phone call of doom to the builders tomorrow. It was the extra £300 that did it for me. He did have the decency to look shifty as he told me that bit!
Pleasures for today:
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Bigger son went to Bristol with school.
3) After dropping son off at 8.05, went to a very quiet Sainsburys.
4) Popped to the library.
5) Went to mum and dad's and got another bag of crab apples.
6) At least the builders have gone and we have a sink. :-/
7) Watched Uni Challenge.
8) Bigger son made me laugh so much he had to send me out of the room! He was talking about doing RE at school. He said "What's that religious man called? Not Buddha.... Arthur! The man with the glasses and the funny laugh? Arthur Llama". :-D0 -
Hello from the back garden and woof from the pup who's running around like a daft thing with a plant pot. It's currently 32o and rather pleasant.
Busy enough day at work, I'm out of sorts as I wasn't in yesterday doing my normal Monday things. Almost got away early but a delivery hadn't been delivered and they would bring it straight away ...okay I will stay on and wait for you!
DD1 had her second dress up day, today she was an explorer for Career Day..2 more school days left.
Home with sandwiches and wraps and bread and cakes and some pasta salad and it was all rather heavy on the train home ....which was delayed and then we all had to get off at the station before mine and then all wait for the next train which was already busy and then all pile in like sardines . The only pleasure was the aircon was on!
Sat in the garden and had a turkey and cranberry sandwich for tea and chatted with DD1 about her day.
Nabbed a magazine from the swap box at library .
I need to go and water the veggies they will need a good soak after today's heat. Have a good day and frith have a hug as I don't have any other advise than you've already had! Hope your friend sorts things out.0 -
England Expects!
Got to say, you always must use rule of BoP, chapter 76, verse 19 and 20. Always plaice a schedule when you have works done. Although it looks cheap to get the fixtures yourself, then most I know would not touch with a rubber mallet. A schedule provides you with the detail of what work is to be carried out. This allows the tradesman to then invoice specifically for the elements carried out. Then of curse, there is Bob from the Hammer and Nails!
Rant over!
After the great war, it fell into a slight decline, this was due to the recent events. Prior to that, it was a celebration of sorts, a VICTORY. Most were grateful it had been achieved.
5 Back at the winding house today, bridge was a bit blustery, but we ploughed our way over. Trinkets laid out for the face workers. Shame, I apparently missed an appearance of madame yesterday. No worry, could be five months before she comes in again!
4 Was feeding Raffles last eve his treat stick. Those cat chews that come in packets of seven. Well, was leading him through, as he nose where they are kept, and at a height. Now as Raffles is the size of a lion, cub, he quickly leapt up and in one paw movement, removed chew stick from hand and wolfed down in one. Some cat! Now, as I have mentioned afore, he is the two in ten cat, well, we have managed to rid our house of cat food he refused and now he just eats the chicken or salmon box. Note we do not allow him to have tuna, as it is factory fished.
3 Now, as I have mentioned that you should always use rules of BoP, here is Chapter 94, verses 2 to 13 inclusive. The electric bored have taken far too much money of BoP, thus reducing BoP’s wobbleade funds dramatically. Well it has had to stop, and as I mentioned last day, I took a tenner from BoPsie’s purse to buy her coffee and cake. Now, when I was on me apprenticeship, we used to got the local YEB shop and get to know the keybored punches and like. Now I has gone off rant. Well, the pleasure is, that the leckie bored are going to repay. And BoP shall liquidate the funds and enjoy a wobbleade as well.
2 No news, but that is a bit early. Still working at the Salt Mine, so no changes yet. A PK chart of Chuffines isnot started, but will be … BoPsie is already too far gone and is giddy on her feet.
1 Trafalgar Day. In Edinburgh, the famous signal is flown from Calton Hill. http://www.edinburghmuseums.org.uk/Venues/Nelson-Monument0 -
1) cleaning the roof window in the kitchen so the light can come in
2) getting the clothes airer sorted out (the kind that goes up and down on pulleys
3) sunshine in the garden
4) slow cooked soup and enough food to feed an unexpected house guest0
