Sitting here with putah and connectivity in rackety, on/off, ornery, jumpity limp mode, again and still. Just occurs to me - is putah deciding this is best match for &?
1. Hier's qtrly antiques auction here:
http://www.rowleyfineart.com/auctions/
1st sleeper, Lot 2 est. 200-300, realised 3600!
http://www.catalogue-host.co.uk/rowley/newmarket/2014-09-02/lot_2?prev_page=browse%20results%2c%20page%201%20of%2018&prev_url=%2frowley%2fnewmarket%2f2014-09-02%2fpage_1
This was the day's carboot find. 'She will be pleased' said Will:
http://www.catalogue-host.co.uk/rowley/newmarket/2014-09-02/lot_191?prev_page=%27my%20lots%27&prev_url=%2frowley%2fnewmarket%2f2014-09-02%2fmy_lots%3fpage%3d1
Several like that, but sectional swathes of unsolds, even within fine museum quality pieces, in ivory and jade particularly. Too much Chinoiserie? Those buyers were there, in force, but were holding fire for what they knew to be exceptional /sleepers, and fought bonkersly on some. Lot 573 was another, no est., indicating under 100. Realised 3600. & left before lighting and furniture. as usual.
Sadly, it's the last of the lovely catalogues too - personal signed letter from Roddy, explaining that online download's the option now, - not the exceptional publications I've treasured over the years.
2. No car till too late Mon meant no viewing for & until quick scoot in hier matin. Broke every rule in the book and bought 2 lots blind - and OK phew! though. Missed out on 3 Lots I would have liked, esp. the orig. cased Asprey silver bookmark
http://www.catalogue-host.co.uk/rowley/newmarket/2014-09-02/lot_434?prev_page=search%20results&prev_url=%2frowley%2fnewmarket%2f2014-09-02%2fsearch_results%3fpage%3d1%26text%3dAsprey
and a painting by Sir Alec Guiness misdated 1966, actually 1964.
http://www.catalogue-host.co.uk/rowley/newmarket/2014-09-02/lot_711?prev_page=search%20results&prev_url=%2frowley%2fnewmarket%2f2014-09-02%2fsearch_results%3fpage%3d1%26text%3dSir%2520%252bAlec%2520Guiness
Oh, that's odd - showing unsold, but I thought it went for over 400. Will find out.
3. Keatsian out there again. Just picked 1kg raspberries. Stung onder chin as I leaned in! Hurt and hurting, all red and swelling, despite immediate shower and hairwash. Now bath-robed with conditoner hairpile - Marge Simpson and What-A-Mess combined, with Sunday's blackberrying/stinging nettling still mightily in evidence. Beautiful not.
4. Left auction, fixed car thirsty for Mr T, but that part had sand down in various areas, barriers and bollards, which has a nice cursey ring to it...try: 'Barriers and Bollards!!!' Annoying[hope to get there] retrace required soon, as P&R fees now rule prev. journey ways out. However, phone top-up and oranges, which were rem.2 of Rule of Three, were joined by 43 other items - flowers, bread, plants, growing lettuce and herbs, sweet corn, peaches, peaches, peaches, peaches, kiwis, beefsteak toms, loads more, all 10p or less...so plenty of drop-off sharing en route. Flowers up to necks in water outside o/n.
5. Enjoyed free cappuccino interlude en rte to 4. No poppy seeds anywhere else of late, dkw - needed for bread and their Fairy liquid's on special. There is but one Emporium of w8r0s - free Sept mag's in too. Off to France mine go.
6. Revolving door mthly deposit will be done today en rte to collect new 'free' camera, then brought back again to tax car online before mot expiry. At least this sort of tweaking about is possible. Have left &matter ongoing over last year unspoken, but hope to have all-clear to resume prev. life soon. Local surgery and NHS are beyond price.. I miss/need Spits.
7. Lovely, lovely victory for Gäel Montfils last night. So talented - it's that mental fortress consistency that isn't his constant or absolute. Doing better without a coach atm. Over all, France produces so many more players of ranking quality, male and female, than albion. The Why?s are self-evident,
Need compline tonight too, hardly need say why after recent post re: state of world, now worse again.
dfv - marvellous to see you back in full form but skin graft for son! All zaps from &, who now has surplus to pass on.
vjm - hopefully, son's Ref. quals are tfr-able. This progressing chicks and nest phase really does have an autumnal fit/feel from you. Big hugs - so glad you had those recent, mindful, hols:-)...the vjm family memory bank balance is healthy.
mhags - wise, wise, wise.
Frith - can you really believe who you're seeing, when you look at those 2 young men? Hells Bells, you have done/are doing a fantastic job!...and you can now dawdle through CS's until next school hols:-)
sparrer - are you setting sail across bay of e? You mention pics?
Right, time to rinse hair, dress, drive, and imperative etceteras. Today's dicton:

Gosh wednesday already. Monday was almost a total disaster. Was punted off to terminal 3 by virgin stewardess. Turns out my virgin booked virgin checkin card was for a saa connection. Ok should have noticed but when the flight 21:00 for johannesberg was on the board at terminal 3 never entered my head there were two flights both at 21:00 one from terminal 3 (virgin) and one from terminal 1 (south african airlines). Found out at 20:10. Eeeeeeek. As did Heidi, a young woman from South Africa. Omg how we sprinted with 'you wont make it' feom the totally unhelpful person on the 'help' desk at terminal 3. The agony of waiting for the bus! The pain of the run to b33 (seemed like miles from the bus), the anguish at getting stopped for full body scan due to setting off alarm cos i forgot to take off my bangle in the panic. So no doubt about number 1
1) making the flight. Omg i was soooooooooo happy. Also very sweaty. Tmi? Made me laugh though when i realised my dress looked like i'd splashed red wine on - it was actually cos i had my hair dyed purple the night before (like i said i was very sweaty!)
2) the lovely staff from saa. They gave me water unasked soon as i got on and never made me feel bad for cutting it so fine (actually boarded 20:45, so grateful they didnt disembark me, and if terminal 3 did phone through as i asked thank you to them)
3) very welcome g & t with lemon and ice then supper and an episode of life of riley then sleeeeeep then breakfast 2 hours before landing in
4) south africa. Wow i'm here, my first trip south of the equator.
5) easy transfer to the hotel, check-in, 2 mugs of tea, blissful shower then
6) hotel organised me a driver. Maybe not the most mse os thing i've done but heck might never get here again and it was my only time for sightseeing. We went round johannesberg, stopped at the prison, then soweto. Mandela's house (now a museum), outside tutu's house, lunch then guided trip through a slum. Very humbling.
7) back to my hotel for a cup of tea in a room floorwise maybe the same as the guide's shack, with running water rather than a trip to the community tap, flushing toilet rather than the portaloo shared by 200, and 2 double beds for just me rather than 12. Like i say humbling. Also find it very hard to get my head round apartheid. How could it ever have seemed right? (Rhetorical)
8) drank the small bottle of wine saa had given me with my meal but quite honestly the g & t was enough so slipped it in my bag :-) and went through my talk again
9) then an ostrich burger. Hmmm well worth trying once but not again
10) snuggled under the duvet snd slept from 10-6. Bliss. Then fell asleep again so glad i put in a call for 7 which reminds me... Good that's done for tomorrow
11) nice breakfast (with sound of staff singing) then wandered over to conference. Welcome at 9 then me for my keynote on international trends in qa. I know, an awfully long way to come for a one hour talk!
12) rest of day interesting talks interspersed by nice food and tea / networking breaks
13) wine reception with beautiful piano music. And to once again retrieve my mse credentials got a top up to take through to my meal
14) news from sister dn's op, although long, consultant is happy. My goodness though i felt awfully far away while she was posting hourly updates saying 'still in theatre'
15) now in bed reading your pleasures and adding mine. Hope you forgive me for 15 - it has been 3 days! Tomorow we start at 8:30, i'm on the panel discussion in the afternoon, flight is 20:20. And guess what, wont let anyone direct me to terminal 3!!!MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Wow, sounds like a fab trip, DD
x
1. Kind of a NSD - I've paid for my DD to have tennis lessons for the term, and for her keyboard lessons, but they aren't really 'spends', they're education
2. DD's first day back at school - Year 5 already, where does the time go? Managed to persuade her that the traditional doorstep photo was obligatory
3. Sat outside after dinner and had a nice chat with DD and mummykins.
4. Enjoyed my last day of 'freedom' before starting school (training days til Monday) tomorrow. Am very nervous and excited.
5. Was able to pick DD up from school
6. I've got my packed lunch ready for tomorrow, need my pencil case and my school bag and I'll be good to go!0 -
Still feeling the effects of viral infection - Saturday sore throat again, Sunday throat better but stomach ache. Woke Monday was day off and felt ok but upset stomach in evening so I am feeling wiped out... but do have some pleasures:
1. visit to Spec savers Monday for free check up (due to diabetes)
2. despite trying to sell me new frames SSavers agreed to just replace the lenses in my existing frames for cost of £39. They also replaced the perished/discoloured "nose pegs" for free
3. lovely chirpy robin singing away outside our office this morning
4. take away delivered for tea tonight with 20% off voucher
5. lovely evening ... windows wide open ... but definitely chilly in the mornings now !

kk - you've forgotten 'apple for the teacher' for tomorrow.
skint - if our viral Yuks are related, I empathise entirely.
jue - lovely pleasures, one now responsible for my instant need for h/m shepherds pie. I can feel right now how yummy and right it would be.
1. Just in from compline in the closing light of a falling day, candle-lit only in our ancient space. I deeply value this meditative pause and always need it, every single month.
2. Dropping off rtc goodies from hier turned into long cuppytease outside and talk/walk /examine friend's garden mess, not much tended this year, comme le mien. She, too, has mad out of season things happening. Also auction catalogue browse and tales, book talk, old academic life talk, miniature goss., both wishing ourselves and each other in somewhat better state, outrage/horror/despair over various things.........all in all a delightful several hours before IS THAT THE TIME!!!!! made itself felt.
3. Did her posting as I could, if I hurried. Saw the this-is-news-to-me newed-up interior of Newmarket PO. RM is just another cash cow now...don't start me. Fortunately, same good staff are still there.
4. Yellow thing eventually turned up a bit after 3. That's big late in &'s book. I see no bop bulletin aujourd'hui. Dares not, j'assume. Even Raffles is making himself as scarce as the newts. Thought grimly last night '2020h and it's fully dark', same ce soir.
5. Had never heard of Gigi Salmon, but she's a great addition to tennis commentary on t'wireless.
6. Deer challenging me with Landseer stare en rte back.
7. 1st for ages - 5p reverbe while fuelling at Mr T, so Yes, I did just make it back into town, despite more miles of bright orange lighty an'all an'all .
dd - this qtr's tidings of Scotsdales' bogofs, offers, talks, freebies arrived today. Always good, as is your Jenny Josephs hair. Well done you!
Derwent May writes in today's Times[read free, with ditto cappu, at the emporium]about wasps, esp. superstingy-girlie wasps full of eggs, arriving in numbers, dive-bombing ripe and soft fruit, being angry....just as &found out in earlier dispatch no. 3. Can see the puncture, but pain stopped and swelling down, just little reds now.
Right, Andy needs me shortly, but will he listen?

Ooo, sounds exciting, DD.
Get well now, Skint.
Best of luck, Kittikins. :-)
Pleasures for today:
1) The school run was accomplished - eventually. Thought we were doing well - up 2 hours earlier than during the holidays! Special occasion croissants eaten. In the car by 7.40 (the SEN bit opens at 8.20). Instructions to bigger son to stay in the house til 8am then walk over to the bus stop (only about 20m!)
Drove down the hill out of the village and saw a mysterious taxi driving up the other way..... and from the company due to take smaller son FROM TOMORROW.... Phoned bigger son and the taxi man had been to the house but asked for another boy altogether! Bigger son eventually explained that smaller son was the one they were after but that he wasn't there (I did phone and tell the taxi company last week).
Somehow managed to drive the 13-14 miles to new high school in 20 minutes so we were early.
Smaller son hugely enthusiastic, said hello to teacher. I signed the "manhandling forms" in case any one needs to restrain him or chase after him (no one ever has and I despise those forms!) Then I turned round and smaller son was crying. :-( This happens perhaps once or twice a year, is completely silent and I have no idea how to deal with it as it is so rare. After a few attempts at chatting, I had to leave. :-/
But at least they both got to school!
2) Had a cup of tea in town with my school friend.
3) Had a text from smaller son's teacher saying he was fine once he saw his friend.
4) Picked smaller son up and he had been to every lesson. He hasn't worked out yet that all the children with various problems are in his form - he just asked why there were 4 teaching assistants in there falling over each other!!
While I was talking to Mrs E, he decided his uniform should come off (well, not the trousers) so we had to explain quickly that it stays on until you're in the car, regardless of discomfort! He also told me he took his tie off at lunchtime in the loo then couldn't put it back on right for 10 minutes. :-) Amazingly, he loves it and wants to have a cooked dinner tomorrow.
5) Tasty tea culminating in cherry pie and double cream.
6) I pickled some beetroots from the allotment. Apparently they freeze OK once cooked so I'll be able to get through some of the other 50+ that are left...
7) Bigger son returned (this not in chronological order anymore!) and also had had a reasonable day.
8) Going to listen to Dead Ringers now.0 -
Well done Masters Frith on your new starts, and what numpties the taxi company were!!
Just watched lovely old Miss Marple on TV and feel ready to crash out and try not to carry on being nervous for tomorrow. Thanks for the good wishes0
