Consumerism is.....buying things you don't need with money you don't have to impress people you don't know and probably wouldn't like even if you did know them.0 -
Hello, I shall vent my unpleasantness here and be done with it and then swiftly move onto pleasures....
So my day started very early, in at work just after 6.15am, enjoying the peace and quiet and getting a start to things. Kitchen colleague came in ...started moaning about stuff ( had 'chatted 'yesterday ) , continues as morning went on to moan more and then some more. I told her I'd passed her issues on to the owners on Monday.....not sure what else she expected me to do. They had said they would deal with, explained to her they are both working full time at other jobs, etc....so she then decided to have a tantrum , swore at me, said she was in a good mind not to come in tomorrow ( our busiest day) . I asked her if she was or not as I would need to cover her shift ...and she said no I'm not coming in! Asked her if she intended coming back next week....yes! At this I felt so out of my depth in handling the situation. I thought you just cannot refuse to come in one day and then expect everything to be as normal next week.
Went outside and phoned/ texted owners for someone to please get back to me! They did. They've dealt with it and I don't think I will see her next week! It was horrible. So I am now working ( 7th shift in a bloody row ) tomorrow and not too happy about it but I will not let the cafe and customers be affected by her shocking attitude.
So my pleasures....
An early start...forgot how much I like being up and about!
Setting up outside furniture with a hot air balloon in the sky above.
Stunning day! As I sat outside in the sunshine on the phone.....with my ray bans on!
Was supposed to finish at 1pm, got out at 1.45pm ...better than 5 pm.
Nice drive home....needed my aircon on the car! This is our first warm day in absolutely ages!
Went to , I suppose, the equivalent of DSS( if it's still called that! ) to renew our Medicare card as we have new visa...did I bring the new visas...no, I brought the new 4 year ones, not our permanent residency ones.....the lovely lady allowed OHto quickly email them to my phone and read it from there....job done! Thank goodness for technology!
Did the grocery shop. Multi tasked and chatted to my boss as I went round, making arrangements for tomorrow and next week.
Drove home, sat outside in the sun, on my new garden sofa , with a cold glass of diet cola and my library book....bliss!
Went over to Salvos and bought 2 pairs of trousers for work....now the warmer weather is hopefully coming need something a bit cooler than jeans. And a nice floaty top. All half price tickets .
Home and I am just going to watch GBBO and hang up washing/ put shopping away and potter. Everyone is out and all is quiet!
A beautiful purple anemone at my front door and some lovely yellow freesia in bloom.
Parrots and more parrots!
Onwards and upwards Mhags! Feeling more calm than I did 3 hours ago!
I hate working in the kitchen and I hate working in the kitchen on a Saturday! But shall mKe the most of it, shall think of the money and the day off in lieu next week!
Have a fabby Friday ....I'm off to watch the bakers!0 -
My five are

Morning
Skint - Get well NOW.
Thank you for all the good wishes for DD
Pleasures for yesterday,
1. I know I have already posted it but DD getting a C in maths GCSE resit and all the lovely good wishes she has got.
2. As a well done treat for all the hard work she has put in over the last 2 years bought tickets to take DD to see War Horse on Saturday (on special offer of course). Her face lit up when we gave her the tickets.
3. Was naughty yesterday and bought myself a portion of chips at lunch time. They were soo yummy though
4. Singing along with the radio at work, just as well I am the only one in my office most of the time.
5. Finally sorted out another issue at work, I will have my desk free of customer complaints.
Hugs to all who need them0 -
Welcome back Skint, sounds like we both had a rocky start to the holidays but all's well that ends well. Hope you get over your sickness asap
Caterina I think Reverbe has cancelled her account or could be posting under another name now. You're absolutely right, sayings do stick, finding pennies will always be a reverbe to me
mhags what a horrid situation for you, so pleased the owners were able to take it from your shoulders and sort it out. We're swapping seasons again, you're using the air con and I was so chilly last night I put my heating on for a couple of hours - in August!
1. I love sleeping in my own bed but just as good is showering in my own shower, being able to put my hands on everything I need especially when I have shampoo running into my eyes!
2. Had a lovely day out with DD and DGD2 yesterday, I really splashed out and bought a roll of 50 black sacks for £3.50p. Spendthrift
3. Lunch out so I just had two crackers with cheese for tea. Discovered that Brie and Stilton freeze/defrost quite successfully.
4. Laundry line dried and folded so that there's minimal ironing
5. DS ordered me a sat nav which has just arrived. Fortunately I can change the voice, I'll be quite happy to follow English gentleman's voice I've chosen
6. Brought home some books given to me by DS's OH, one the story of a place I stayed when I was in my 20's which is bringing back so many memories, emotional but good as it was the first step to a new start in my life.
Have a good rest of the day0 -
Hello all and especially new people.
I am in the middle of a field in Wales with precious little Internet but am enjoying catching up with your pleasures when I can.
My biggest pleasure is that I am still managing to not murder the mother in law. On second thoughts I am not sure if that is such a pleasureI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
VJsmum well done on the self control lol
Sparrer welcome home - its always nice to get back to your own space
Had a very lazy day - am still taking it easy
1. lie in until gone 10am
2. poached egg on toast for breakfast
3. DS finishes work at lunch time on Fridays and brought home chip shop chips. Lots of salt.... did my throat the world of good ... had to be eaten for medicinal purposes
4. nice chat on phone to DM. She has had a chesty cough for about 3 weeks and has been checked out by Doc and told its a virus... lots of nasty illness around at the moment... I think the problem is we think "oh its just a virus" and try and carry on through it but maybe we should be taking it easy as these viruses can be really nasty..
5. lovely sunny evening after a cloudy day, but its definitely more autumnal temperatures now.

Hmm, this thread moves so fast, I've only been absent a few days and so much to catch up on.
Went to bank today and finally changed DDs account to a 3% one. They tried to sell all sorts of things but some info was useful.
Met up with old colleagues which was great, another called in who is normally nice, but got an odd vibe. Not sure what that was about.
DD made some biscuits and is now potato peeling. Asked if I wanted a go - no says I. :rotfl:
Am in a right fuggle, but am managing not to blow my top. What is wrong with me?
Have been around people with colds etc and now feeling a bit chilly tonight, fingers crossed won't be a cold. However is bank hols so at least I can put pjs on and hide.OSWL (start 13st) by 30Jun20 6/10
