Hooray for Mr Bagpuss
x
1. DD and I bumped into the lovely poet who visited both of our schools last term (and also, coincidentally, visited my new school and has fond memories of the children's eager participation in his workshop) whilst out in small town. He's so nice and gave me lots of tips to get poetry into school
2. I also managed to get a 'class' library ticket which will enable me to get half price reservations and keep books out for longer - very handy I hope, as I don't want to spend all my salary on resources for school!
3. Sat with DD and ordered her lots of beautiful dresses to choose from, from John Lewis, ostensibly for my graduation in a couple of weeks, but I will be insisting that she wears it more than once! My girly girl is no more, she's much happier in jeans or leggings and a stripy top.
4. Laughed my socks off watching Horrible Histories outtakes on youtube.
5. DD and I watched the first episode of Bake Off....two to go
6. She did her keyboard practice without whinging, what a blessing!
7. I've enquired about joining a foreign languages group for teachers in primary schools. Hope I won't be stepping on anyone's toes at my school, but I get the feeling that they struggled to find a language leader this year...
8. DD and I enjoyed watching Mrs Doubtfire ...parentkins didn't watch it all, not their bag. Fools!!0 -
Afternoon
Well done Mr.Bagpuss
Frith - Hope you and the DS's continue to enjoy your well deserved break.
VJsmum - Well done on the self control
Pleasures for yesterday,
1. Up early and got the food shopping done for the week, all in budget.
2. Whilst out doing food shopping bought train tickets for mine and DD's trip to London. By buying our travelcards in the next town worked out so much cheaper as is in the London Zones, where I live about 2 miles away is outside of the Zones but can use the travelcard on the bus to get to the station.
3. Amazing trip to the theatre with DD to see War Horse. It is such a fantastic show would highly recommend. Our cheap seats were fantastic as well so an added bonus.
4. Using our travelcards to full use and did sightseeing by London Buses whilst in town. Even got to go on an old routemaster and a new boris bus.
5. Money saved on theatre tickets but us dinner and a cocktail in a trendy Covent Garden Restaurant. Atmosphere was good but not so the food.
6. Laughing at DD, she is so observant and made me laugh so much with her comic observations.
7. DD bought us all a giant macaron each for pudding
8. Early night in bed and slept soo well.
Hugs to all who need them and hope the poorlies get well soon0 -
1. Had a lovely breakfast of hm wm bread, butter (no more 'spread' for me, after the programme I watched of how it's made) and hm marmalade, the latter given to me by a neighbour
2. Another neighbour gave me some plums from his garden
3. Met with friends this morning, we went to a new coffee lounge and had hm cinnamon cake with a dollop of Cornish cream. very indulgent but good that my appetite is returning
4. Home to do some laundry, hung it out and it was dry in a couple of hours
5. Started to sort out car boot items, I have two large boxes so far and will have more when I go to DM's flat on Wednesday to start emptying it.
Have a good BH Monday, hoping the weather stays fine for us all0 -
Another busy one!
1) A good sleep!!!! Even I slept from midnight to just before 8!
2) Cooked breakfast.
3) Another shower! Looking forward to getting ours fitted.
4) More boating. We went the other way down the Avon today.
5) Went to Kenilworth Castle which had an event so we gave up on trying to park/find the park and ride. We did, though, see a couple of hundred classic cars coming the other way and the drivers waved to sons.
6) Went to Coughton Court instead (free with National Trust so that was MS!) Liked the orchards (we may have picked up a few windfalls). They had a WWII exhibition with Singer sewing machines that another visitor showed everyone how to thread. Then we played on a Morse code machine then sons were really interested in 2 typewriters!
They had a "broken, do not use sign" on and I did my good turn for the day by untangling a couple of keys and the ribbon and they were no longer broken! I had to tell sons that, pre-computers, anyone who had worked in an office would have been able to do that.
7) Tea cooked for me.
8) Quiz and disco. Always disappointed when I don't win but only sons and I on our team.
9) Remembered it is brother in law's birthday today. He's in Switzerland (I think) so won't know that we had forgotten. Got him a card from the NT place and also one for my brother ready for next month.
10) Just been playing hide and seek in the dark.
11) Very much looking forward to the Archers and the Pet Shop Boys will be on! They were my favourite band growing up and I saw them at the NEC c1990.0 -
Greetings all. Just listening to freddie and the weed as i type. Was busy walking the dogs in the park at 7.
1) ds got up to walk the dogs first thing (hooray) then baked a cake and brought me a piece and a cup of tea. Cake was lish :P
2) creche duty at church. Caught up with one of the mums who i've not seen over the summer
3) then m&s to get my rands for beg september
4) mum bought a ten pound meal deal for lunch then we caught the bus back to mine. Was lish
5) then watched the rest of the honourable woman. Am still reeling!

Good news Mr Bagpuss!
Me today:
1. All day with DH, he agreed to take time off from kitchen works to spend some time together.
2. Freebie cinema preview, The Hundred Foot Journey
3. Freebies during our outing, tea (twice), cake, sample of booze, a few peppers.
4. Lovely long walk in Olympic village
5. DH and I talked seriously about simplifying life and living frugally in a creative way, having fun and finding pleasure in human pursuits rather than possessions. He really is on board!
Good night. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
1. dd- I was crocheting at that time. Another earnest story-line as loxfest ends with ghastly Woy not putting Mrs Nigel dec.d right, not crediting Dan with coming upon and helping Freddie.
2. No Church today but WWI exhibition continues in tiny near one - 15 men lost, 92 injured from a miniscule, largely agricultural hamlet[then and still]. They are all written up, with links to current locals, some pics, mementos. Immediate salutary reaction is thinking how this was repeated in tens of thousand of similar places.
3. Another empty space to be out in this arvo, mit thermos/crochet/book, amid distant whinnies and neighs and moos. And a golden oriole - briefly:-) Reluctantly finished Rosy Thornton's 'Hearts and Minds' - brilliantly done, so true and so funny and perfect. Academic path and present location happen to have tertiary/Cambridge/Fenny kinship - this is just SOOOO right for anyone who has ever been within coo-ee of any. Light, but not lightweight. As Dear Pete and Dud would say: Not only

“St Radegund’s College, Cambridge, which admits only women students, breaks with 160 years of tradition to appoint a man, former BBC executive James Rycarte, to be its new Head of House......The taint of money, the politics of gender and the colour of the SCR curtains: Hearts and Minds is a campus satire for the 21st century.”
4. Another ready to collect, Library em tells me.
5. Fair bit of crochet done. Ploughing on again in a few moments.

Hi Caterina - is the Hundred Foot Journey any good? I like the sound of it, Chocolat-esque?
1. DD's big bag of dresses arrived at our local MrW's before lunch, so we popped in to pick them up....and returned all bar 3 later.
2. The 3 dresses we all loved are beautiful, all very different in style, but all utterly gorgeousDD has a choice of 2 for my graduation and one for any day wear.
3. Free paper in MrW's when I easily spent £10 on wine and cheese.
4. Yummy scrummy nut loaf for dinner, I may have had 3 helpings....!!
5. Nice fresh sheets for my bed tonight.
6. We watched a fascinating ;Restoration Man' programme about a couple renovating an old lodge cottage and it's got me wondering about the quite derelict lodge cottage in my village....I wonder who owns it?0 -

Just did, bagpuss.
You are a love. Now stop those tears[as if you can, to order]
Here's one of these:)
and one of these:A
and one of these:grouphug:
[you're allowed seconds and thirds and fourths and...you get the idea, although I'm certain Mr Bagpuss will be supplying the very best ones of all, not that her kerfuffle should be allowed to taint your day out.]
It's just a whole lot more of that messy thing called Life, with added learning curves on your daughter's part. Being vile is safe when done to those who love her unconditionally. That just happens to be you. She knows you are vulnerable. All children and teens know this, as do all emotional blackmailers.
Seems to me, from your posts with us and there, that you are pretty special .
If you must, a simple, casual tone apology is more than sufficient. 'Join us if you want, but it's going to be very lean and mean, picnicky, smell-of-oily-rag, just a simple day. Only smiley people allowed.'
If she resumes tomorrow, you don't, just smile and carry on and enjoy your day.
Big hugs.CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:
