Evening,
Our weather seems to have been a bit kinder to us than most
Pleasures for yesterday
1 bit of a lie in. I need to do something to black out our bedroom, the light is bothering me more than it has in other years, but I managed to doze for some time
2 pottered around the garden, doing a bit here and a bit there. Still hoping to see a way forward. But broke my beautiful, work of art garden fork
3 cooked a lovely chicken dinner and my roast potatoes were just like my mum used to make :T
4 more R1 big weekend. Loved klaxons, London grammar, Kasabian
5 dad was chirpy
And today
1 took DD to get her eyes tested and she couldn't find any new specs she likes, so good old specsavers will put the new lenses in her old frame and the cost is covered by her NHS Voucher :T
2 visited poundland and stocked up on some stuff.
3 and got a long overdue new phone (not in poundland)
4 OH and I went to a nursery to buy some trees and then went for a walk round the National Memorial Arboretum. Thought of you, BoP at the Falklands memorial. What a lovely place the whole thing is and what better way to commemorate the dead than with something living? We will return
5. A Girl Called Jacks chick pea and peach curry. Yum and only 250 calories per portion, just right for a fast day.
Nighty nightI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
1. Lay in bed listening to the rain. A warm, cosy and simple pleasure
2. What better to do on a rainy Monday than put the treadmill together? Well it would have been if I had a clue what I was doing, it's as rickety as a Frank Spencer flat pack! :rotfl:
3. Baked bread and made a tea loaf for meeting friends on Wednesday
4. nsd/npd - even a no phone day. looked to see who was phoning and decided to let them leave a message if they wanted to. Nothing earth-shattering so I'll definitely do that next time I'm feeling unsociable
5. Tennis, lots of tennis, and lots more to come
Sweet dreams0 -
Evening all, dark and damp o'clock here, lots of heavy rain showers but they left lovely fresh air.
Had a productive start to my morning before going out. I did 2 loads of washing and hung them up ( inside...fed up living in a laundry though) , emptied the dishwasher, cleaned the kitchen and as I'm a woman and can multitask, watched a program I missed on Sunday night...yes the one in was looking forward to but slept through!
Train to work and train home .
Work was workety and fine, had a bit of a laugh with colleagues which is always good
Got soaked at least 3 times as the kitchen tap at work broke off and water spurted everywhere! Just sent a text to colleague who's in first thing...said bring your wellies.....text back...what are wellies? We'd had a conversation earlier today ( hence laughter) at the different names we have for things . Anyway wellies are gumboots!
Nice walk home from train station. Air smelled of wood burning stoves, damp air and autumn leaves.
Home with leftovers, bread, brownies, cookies, sandwiches and rolls. So that's tea and lunch for tomorrow sorted.
Right no rest for me....heading out to take DD to physio...ah yes, more money!
Happy Tuesday0 -
Wow. Everyone has been really busy.
Having a few days off as its half term.
Went shopping with DD today and bought a Monsoon dress for DD in a dress agency. They wanted £25 but I asked them to reduce to £20. Still seems a lot of money to me - what do you think? It is a party dress, no hope of it fitting me as size 8.
Also bought a couple of tomato plants, a coriander plant and some whole meal flour on short date from health food shop.
DD is making lots of soda bread from Jacks book. Very nice.
Had a lovely meal at family's on Sunday and came away with leftovers (so no cooking Monday).
Bought a large vase in charity shop for £3.95. (As if I don't have enough tat, but I really like it).
Dishwasher repaired today under warranty.
Lovely lunch to look forward to tomorrow with friends
Been doing my online Excel course from Groupon and finding it really useful. Going to do the Sage one after both will look good on my CV.
Have a lovely evening all. Off to chop up the potatoes, carrots, swede, beans, celery for the soup. Still got some cream left from the apple crumble yesterday so that can go in too - yum.:):)
Ps yesterday made the lemon curd cake on my diary and it was all gone by dusk. Going to try the choc orange version soonishOSWL (start 13st) by 30Jun20 6/10

Good evening everyone :hello:
So miserable here today, but DH and I are trying to make the most of both being off work at the same time. Our pleasures today:
1) Visited Bletchley Park, using our Art Fund cards to get in for free (well, they cost us a membership fee last year, but you get my meaning!). We've definitely had more than our money worth. If you can find the time to visit, I'd definitely recommend going. We spent 3 solid hours there and could have easily spent longer!
2) Not having to get up at 6am on a weekday! Bliss!
3) Being able to read my book!
4) Paid off my credit card for this last week. :j :j
5) Visited the Cath Kidston factory shop with DH. He was distressed, but managed to buy his mother a birthday present for a fraction of the price of what he would have spent. DH will thank me one day. :rotfl:Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -
VickyA: Thanks for the link
A really lovely short break over at a Steam fair, we arrived to a lovely warm greeting we have been going a while now and we know a few people now. :)The weather held out for all bar one night and Monday was amazingly warm, it was bizarre to drive, back into the rain. We packed very light so minimal loading and un loading and we used the snacks I baked as err snacks.:p
For Monday work has been work.
1. As it’s raining I don’t need to water the plants ohhh and 6 pots of begonias to plant up:D
2. 2 loads of washing done and hung out.
3. Seeing a lot of baby birds on the garden bird feeders
4. I Couldn’t bring myself to throw out stale bread, so made up a bread pudding recipe its cooking away with what we had in.
5. Enjoying stardust again.
6. Popped to Mr T no choice as out of milk, picked up a couple of rtcs unheard of during a half term week.:cool:0 -
Evening All.
1 - Weigh in this morning and I've dropped 2 lbs yay! And managed to resist the treats brought into work. Only about 6 lbs to where I'd like to be.
2 - Some very pleasing news when I got into work. Always good to start the day off on a positive.
3 - Catching up with a friend after work. Nice chat and a lovely cuppa.
4 - Bit more money transfered to my savings account.
5 - Home and chilling out in my PJs. Probably should be getting stuff done around the house but ho hum.0 -
A miserable morning here. Smaller son on 5th course of antibiotics. I was told his operation would be this week or next. Phoned round and round to get the right secretary and was told the paediatrician who does the op only works one day a month for the NHS (!) so he's not having it done til 15th July. :-( Goodness knows how he is supposed to cope in the meantime.
Anyway, pleasures for today:
1) Phoned our local surgery for more antibiotics and told them about the 7 week wait (that was supposed to be 1 week) and they are going to write and complain and say how much schooling smaller son is having to miss.
2) Borrowed a cat basket from the vets (neutering time tomorrow!) and they said not to bother paying the £10 deposit.
3) Drove out to Ludlow as the debacle re: the operation had made me cry rather a lot. Had a look round the charity shops and got a White Stuff summer top.
4) Then didn't know what to do for the rest of the day (sons home tomorrow) so drove on and had a look round Monmouth!
5) Indian takeaway for tea.0 -
Another White Stuff top, Frith? I am coming to your town for chazzer s.
Some sad news today, OHs cousin has passed away.. Whilst not terribly close, we had got to know him more in recent years. The worry is the effect on OHs mother, it will bring back the loss of BiL for her, although it isn't very far away in any case. She can be rather "spectre at the feast" at the best of times. I feel a right selfish cow for not asking her here for a few days but, .... I just can't. The cousin had Been ill for a while with cancer, so something of a release for him, and his wife. Sad though.
On to happier things
OH and DS had a lovely day out on the North Yorkshire moors railway.
I had a soak in the bath and watched another hinterland
Work was sooooooooooo Booooorrrrrrinnnggg, the pleasure was leaving
Watched the Inappropriately named, but brilliant, Happy Valley
Bought some chairs to take to Glastonbury - it's getting closer :j
Night allI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
(((Frith))) I am sorry and can understand that the news has got you down. Hope a letter from the surgery will prompt them to do something sooner rather than later
Sympathy to your OH VJsmum, but don't feel bad about not having MiL to stay. If you can't you can't, you know your limitations and it does rather sound as though she wallows, which you certainly don't need to cope with
Vicky pleased you enjoyed Bletchley Park, a member of my family worked there so I've really enjoyed the visits I've made
mhags autumn leaves, wood smoke and lots of goodies, sounds lovely and Autumny. Had to chuckle at 'what are wellies?' - my Aussie friend cracked me up when she asked if I wanted to see her new thongs, and pulled a pair of flip flops out of a bag :rotfl:
1. Sorry to be a bore about it but I had another go at the treadmill today and got it to work! No-one was available for another week to help me so I kept calm and carried on trying, am quite proud of myself that I've built it, done the electrics, and got it running (pun intended) all by my own
2. 'Bought' a replacement travel kettle (last one died in Barcelona) and a surge protected extension lead, both with nectar points. Makes me smile that they give nectar point on what you buy with nectar points!
3. Found a potentilla in Morries for £2, I've been wanting one for a while. If it stops raining for 5 minutes tomorrow I'll be able to plant it out
4. Bought the dry bits to eat on the plane next week, there will be two sandwich thins, a wee pack of cheese biscuits, a WW cake bar and a fruit health bar in each of the three Carte d'Or ice cream tubs. Taking three empty water bottle to fill at the airside water fountain rather than buy over-priced bottles. Can't squeeze in a piece of fruit but it doesn't travel well anyway, and we need keep it cheap and cheerful
5. My child side came out this afternoon, made a set of three flutterbies with net, garden wire, glitter etc., to decorate DM's birthday present. They were £1.99 each in the stationers so I'm pleased with my frugal efforts
Sweet dreams0
