Gosh nearly midnight how did that happen?
1) managed to get up in time for lift (though did have to take breakfast in as no time to eat)
2) colleague's 40th birthday so we went out to lunch
3) dd picked me up from work
4) sunny day
5) bedMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025
25 for 25: 127 / 625
declutter: 173 / 2025
frogs eaten: 60 -
MHags - those nasty girls. :-( Yes, 4 years is a long time (especially when you are young) and I do hope there is a vacancy at the other school.
Pleasures for today:
1) Bit of a lie in.
2) Smaller son still ill but no relapse (I have a feeling it is only a matter of time before he will be back in a and e.....)
3) I thought we would risk a day out so made sandwiches and planned to go to 3 castles that are very close to each other (known as the Three Castles!!) 2 of them are castles with no entrance fee/shop etc so pretty much deserted which is what we like.
All went smoothly until we were trying to get across Hereford City Centre at which point the temperature needle shot up and the STOP light came on (I've never had that happen before!) So our trip turned into sitting in the car on the grass by the dual carriageway then popping into Frankie and Benny's for some water. They couldn't find a bottle so we had to walk back across the road holding 2 huge water jugs!
I couldn't find a water leak but we decided it would be probably be a good idea to head for home. We stopped at a National Trust place on the way home for our sandwiches and also to put more water in the car.
4) Popped into mum and dad's on the way home in case dad could see anything wrong with the car that I had missed (he used to build and race his own sports cars). He couldn't. Then we got sidetracked watching brother fit a new shower and dad put a swarm of bees in a box. Mum got upset seeing how rough smaller son looks, which was a bit sad.
5) Got home and my plants have come from Ebay so I'll be putting in broccoli and dwarf French beans tomorrow.
6) Made potato wedges for tea and had them with hot dogs.
7) Bigger son made some cookies.
8) Just emailed 2 patient liaison type agencies and the Chief Executive of the local hospital trust in the hope that smaller son's operation can be brought forward. I've said I don't mind driving him to Shrewsbury, Birmingham or so on or maybe they'll have some other ideas.0 -
Feeling sad for children suffering, how I wish I could wave magic wands. I can remember having to trek to school with a UTI as I was far too embarrassed to let on that anything was wrong. Luckily it was more or less a one off.
TG my children were more open with me; even though my Mum was a nurse, it didn't help much! We never saw doctors once childhood illnesses were outgrown.
1. Donation of unwanted but quite valuable item to guy who runs a charity stall that raises some £12 000 a year for local good causes.
2. Books back to library on time as 2 were requested for loan.
3. Reading a book from childhood - and have just ordered one from the same series that I have never read.
4. Dr C. had bought two mug-trees, unasked, so all my colourful mugs are now out on display.
5. Got the last two copies of the newspaper with £5 vouchers in for A!di. This at 11.45, having missed them at 12.45 in April, I will have to be earlier still next month.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... Friday evening here, sitting like a young thing with DD1 and her friends. We've had a very delicious afternoon tea....strawberry sponge, caramel shortbread, baby banana breads, lemon slice and banoffi tarts. Lots of tea has been consumed and just a very pleasant afternoon.
Nothing like guests coming to spur you on with housework!
Bought a nice loose shirt at salvos , might be good for flying home in 4 tiny weeks
Fruit and veg bought at old shop...went in there first and then the new one to see who/ what was cheapest. Got another tub of fruit for a dollar. Apples, oranges, pears and plums will be made into something.
Watched call the midwife whilst ironing.
Washing and washing and more washing done and hung out. Not dry but will finish off on the clothes horse.
Picked some late flowering flowers for my front porch table.
Cold to start the day and cold now but was a pleasant late morning/ afternoon.
Phoned school today and chatted with DD2's year head. He had already spoken to DD and biatches have been spoken to and given consequences. If there is any more biatching their parents will be called in.
Do have a lovely day0 -
I do hope the school follow through with this, Mhags. It won't be good for their reputation if DD2 moves to another school because they failed to control bullying. They should be going all out to control things.
My DD is just about to land and help me with the winter/summer wardrobe swap-over. Sat here in chunky cardi, as it's cold, typical.
Post has just come, think my copy of Living on A Pound A Day may have arrived. Have wanted my own copy since I read it as a library book. It cost me 1p, plus postage.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Mhagster - sorry to hear about DD2's school. My DD had the same, we switched schools and it is totally different now, so it's worth a good try. DD has really changed - I'm not sure if that's because she's a little older (and wonder whether that would have happened anyway) but it definitely worked for us. And it's better for me, because you feel so helpless.
I really hope it gets sorted, however she will eventually leave school and be able to choose her own colleagues/friends - but the biatches will always be biatches.
Sending hugs to you both.

A busy few days enjoying the half term break with DH. He was phoned today by his work, asking if he's able to work tomorrow. In his previous job this happened all the time, but this current place they know he's on holiday. I know we should be grateful for work, but it's not like he's in a crucial industry (ie he's not in healthcare or an emergency service!).
Anyway, pleasures for the last few days:
1 Paid £2 coins into my bank. More money towards my road tax. :j
2 Ironing pile finished last night.
3 Visited Cambridge, which is near where we used to live. Love it so much.
4 finished reading a book. The first in ages!
5 DH has bought some new clothes, some of which I've insisted he's gone through TopCashback.Always used his Avios credit card! :j

Evening all
Hello Bluebell, sorry you are feeling so carp.. Hope things improve.
LFS - have you sorted the "unwelcome visitor" thing yet? Awkward i know.
Ooh Sparrer - that dinner sounds nice. Might try myself sometime, I have had a bunch of stilton things myself lately. Oh and did she?
McC - I wouldn't put all the wintery things away yet - decidedly chilly today, i reckon
Skint - welcome back.
Supersaver - love the word charabang, it reminds me of my mum
Giddy - Sympathise with lack of sleep - i keep waking up at 5.45. I think i need a blackout
Mhags - sorry about DD, hope it is now sorted
DD - welcome back. sunny? I am off to Dundee :rotfl:
Frith - Sorry about DS being unwell, hope you get it sorted
My pleasures for yesterday
1. DS and DD spent the day together at Alton Towers. I got a BOGOF which helped. DS ate 13 slices of pizza at a "eat your own body weight in pizza" place. I guess he got our money's worth
2. OH and I went hill walking. We dropped off the kids and went to the Staffordshire Roaches, not too high for my dicky knee to cope with but a lovely 4 hour walk
3. Yummy lunch with homemade cheese and chutney sarnies and - special treat - a packet of cheese and onion crisps. Lovely
4. Also treated ourselves to afternoon tea in a lovely tea shop - lemon and poppy seed cake and coffee and walnut. Normally we'd only have one between us, but went mad
5. Came home and DD, OH and i went out for dinner. DS was supposed to come but combination of pizza and roller coasters meant he wasn't up to it. :rotfl: I had liver and bacon, something i don't cook at home
And today
1. A soak in the bath with Happy Valley
2. Lunch with friend.
3. A fast day - but a bit easier than usual. TO make up for all yesterdays cake and crisps :rotfl:
4. A chat with my sister. Some issues have arisen over what dad wants to do with the house in his will, and i needed to talk stuff over with her. She was ok with some fairly tricky issues and knows i've got her back.
5. Very proud of a letter i've written to a bloody difficult student. Making it clear what i think of his complaint but couched in a way that looks like i am trying to help him.
Have a good night all.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
That sounds like a tough day, Bluebell68. Thank goodness for good neighbours, dogs and husbands.
Well! Here are my pleasures:
1) A bit of a lie in.
2) Took brother to his physio appointment and sons and I had breakfast in Sainsburys.
3) Went to the allotment to plant my dwarf beans and broccoli that arrived yesterday. Really pleased with the broccoli plants, they look very healthy. Brother hadn't seen it for a while so had a guided tour by sons and ate some radishes.
Fred (plot opposite) gave me a dozen runner bean plants so I gave him a tray of sweet pepper plants. He talked to my brother about his beehives and showed me all his huge tanks for growing carrots which came from the police after they discovered a huge cannabis factory locally!
4) Soda bread and jam for a quick lunch.
5) Took the cat back for her appointment following neutering on Wednesday and she is healing fine but they are worried she might have a hernia under the skin. So we have to go back next Friday.
6) Bigger son went to play tennis with my brother (he is in a tennis club) and really enjoyed it!
7) Car has only lost an inch of water today.
8) Bigger son decided he needed an early night (!) and smaller son is having a half term sleep on the sofa with 2 cats to keep him company.
And.... exciting news following the emails I dashed off last night when sons were asleep. I've had an email back from patient services saying they've passed my message on. AND... the PA of the chief executive said to phone the head of urology (not quite the right title, but that's what she covers) so I spoke to her. She has phoned the only surgeon who can do the op (apparently). She caught him at home on his annual leave but he/his secretary is going to phone me on Monday or Tuesday and try and get things moving faster!0
