Hugs Frith, sorry to hear about youngest's operation delay. It drives me mad that doctors can work so little for the NHS, after all, without them, they wouldn't get qualified. Grrr.......hope he can get a cancellation or something xx
1. Back home
2. Had a lovely lazy morning with DD at our house-sitting house.
3. Watched a HPotter film with her last night. She was thrilled and I've promised that I will read the books (at some stage)....
4. Nicked some of DD's hot choc when we stopped at a service station so I could turn my much-needed espresso into a mocha, nomnom.
5. Looking forward to sleeping in my own bed in a mo.
6. Feel like I've had a lovely 'holiday', amazing what 3 nights away can do for you.
7. Have done quite a bit of lesson planning over the break, still loads to do, but it feels more manageable0 -
Hello from poland. After 4 days glorious sunshine it's now raining so must be time to come home.
Conference was fun but much smaller attendance than expected due to organisers' lack of publicity. On the plus side i had plenty of time to network with the 5 other presenters, a colleague from dundee, 2 from edinburgh (including one of our externals), 1 from warwick and 1 from london. The one from warwick has invited me to do a session with her masters students and to join the AoME so i do not feel the trip was wasted workwise, despite the promise of addressing all the deans of all the polish schools not materialising! Friday night the organiser took all the speakers out for dinner - very nice and more friendly less worky networking.
Saturday conference was in polish so we went sightseeingglorious sunshine in the morning. My dundee colleague and i went on a boat trip then lunch then visiting churches at which point it rained so defo got that day planned the right way round
Saturday evening went to a very formal dinner at the university. Unfortunately they hadnt thought to tell us, fortunately i had decided on my new maxi rather than jeans!!!
Sunday we trained to lodz with polish friend. 5 hours 1st class but nooooo dining car! Fortunately we had water, biscuits and apples. And i got some marking done (vjsmum will sympathise!)
Polish friend lives in lodz and was pleased to see his cats again.Nice hotel, nice wander, nice supper
Monday morning botanics which was lovely, lunch with another polish friend from lodz, afternoon spent wandering round sitting at a street cafe, more wandering, sitting in the park, then dinner. Oh it's a tuff life!
Tuesday morning early (for us in holibag mode) check out and train to warsaw. Gorgeously sunny. Am blown away by warsaw - nothing like coventry with which it is twinned. Visited the old town which was rebuilt from photographs. Lunch, park, farewell to polish friend, more wandering, more sunning ourselves, dinner in the old town square then wander back to hotel.
Now it's wednesday and the rain has arrived. Dry now but clouded over, so must be time to go home. Plan for today - check out leaving cases, bit of touristy shopping, late lunch, back to hotel to pick up bags, taxi to airport, flight at 6:15, edinburgh 23:10 :-(
See y'all when i'm back in blighty xxxMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Let’s get ready to Swindle
In the bottom of the jar, I see the foam beer coffee residue. Now if you all drank tea, I could read the leaves, but I bet you lot have it in water proof bags.
5 BoPsie has texted her BoP. Raffles has caught a lander. Feathers everywhere, body as yet not traced. Wondered why he was off his go-cat this morning.
4 Now, if you want dates for the yellow thing again, you must note in these musings when BoP is on Holidays, just like last week. Next holiday booked for 30th June. Got it. Now if you cannot enjoy time off when BoP is off because you are a social worker, educationalist etc, then just look forward to the picture postcards from BoP instead. Apologies to Mhags, as the sun is upside down where you are, I cannot alter this. Besides, it is winter where you are now. So brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
3 Now out of the south face of the salt mine this morning, visibility is reduced due to water falling from the roof. Better it rains when the mine is open, than when it is closed.
2 Nite I has to do a rescue mission on BoPsie. You see she runs off every now and then. No cheese and whine will be involved.

Hello, late night post for me , so quick pleasures and then bed.
Workety work was fine.....busy sending a text on phone that I didn't realise it was my train station! Yikes! Just got off in time!
Worked very hard and was out earlier than usual, home before I'd usually get my train:)
Went out to visit colleague who died's mum and dad. Picked up my boss and we went together. They are such lovely people, as was their daughter and they are finding it ( understandibly) hard to get their heads round it all. There were lots of photos of her and we chatted about them. She had been happy at work and we were able to tell her the day before she died she had been laughing and smiling which hopefully offers some comfort. Her dad was cooking dinner and kept asking us to stay for food....I ended up with 2 takeaway tubs of pasta and the most amazing filled ciabatta I've ever tasted.
Dropped boss off at home and went in for a hot chocolate and a cuddle with her dog...got stuck playing throw the tennis ball again and again.....!
Do have a lovely day all
tealady, broomstick and skinto and mcculloch hope all is well with you and you get to join us again soon0 -
1.Not long now and I can do the scarey work countdown.
2.Seafood salad as a snack when I got in trying to be good, thou I've had my confidence battered by work:(
3.I did make bread pudding for DH.;)
4.A chilli tonight lots of greens and veg to use up and fancy something with a bit of a kick.:D
I will stash number 5.0 -
I know. Not live Scrabble. But live thirst dates. No know why. But I thinks of DD on moments lick this.
The six footer is in. Blonde. Ecstasy. No meant to say easy. No it comes over all wrong. Look. Poor girl is no going to turn her toad into a stool. But she no gives up.
Stirred signs. No just have to leave with BoPsie again.0 -
PK- big hugs, am sticking a virtual pin in an effigy of those baa-lambs at work for you x
1. Was a lady wot lunched (in a dodgy pub in our soon to be home town....think it'll be given a wide berth) with me muvva.
2. Daddykins took DD and her chum out for the day.
3. Yummy jam from the farm shop
4. Yummy fruit, including cherries nomnomnom.
5. Lots more planning....flipping 'magic porridge pot' scenario again! Trying to get ahead of myself if possible.
6. Iplayer - the Fast Show
7. Have registered my interest for a one-day Sanskrit course in London0 -
I show up like a chatty drunk. Unreliable, noisy but benevolent.
Kittikins - good on you getting some holiday in & delighted to read it's going well!
Frith - there are days when the love & respect I have for the medical profession could be measured in teaspoonsfuls. Hearing what they're doing, & Not, for Smaller Frith has my teeth on edge for you. I'll try prayer when I'm calmer.
Mhagster - eek Spiders! Abject salutations for your courage & compassion - may the lassie's family, & all who knew her, gradually rediscover their peace.
DD - have a glorious time in Poland! May the friendship, food & drink live up to hopes & memories!
Sparrer - travel swiftly (not on your treadmill!) to Croatia (?my memory) & have a glorious time!
BoP - rousing cheers to you & Raffles for the yellow stuff so far & the rain is watering in windowsills of seedlings! (I'm starting again with the collards...)
VJsmum - hug your OH from me & keep a safe distance from MiL. OH doesn't have the reserved to cope with wife being jailed for homicide too!
Purple kitten - steam fair, baby birds, bread pudding & Stardust! Splendid mix!
VickyA - well done on Cath Kidston haul, despite family 'help' & yippee for Bletchley. (Hugely to our delight, we've supplied them with genuine vintage Civil Service pencils!)
supersaver - SAGE is a real handy skill & if you can get payroll experience, you are worth frighteningly more per hour. It isn't a Dark Art, but folks like to know the paypacket is correct!
To everyone else, I'm sorry & will try to include you next time!
Would go on, but this Bank Holiday & half term have included a lot of time in the green gym (jungle we call the garden) so I'll chuck some chuckles into the air & roll towards a mattress.
OS Pleasures recently:
Three tiny nasturtium seedlings spotted!
All this yellow stuff! (And yet I've still got a waterproof on as it was cold earlier.)
In this heat, the lads have been gardening, & without prompting, showering. "It's not normal - we usually have to herd them in with a broom!"
Bring greeted by voting station staff as we dived in through lashing rain - seems not only were we among the first, we were (as a party of two) their largest group to date!
I've been measured for slippers - AngloSaxon slippers - with gaffer tape & an old sock!
Dry socks 'for after orienteering' left on car seat. Thank you my son...
Blimey for a free coffee the Waitrose brew is a good one. (I've switched to black then decanting it into real china & adding milk as I get two brews that way & it stays hot between the store & the desk.)
Helping son take his girl to cinema. Loan phone charged & programmed, finances sorted, appear & disappear times negotiated - and he's valeted my car, laid on drinks, chosen in car entertainment & done his level best to ensure fun will 'just happen'!
Through the rain to a market stall & all my cash later, both stallholder & husband are happy men. Enough change to get something for lads to devour, just!
"I have demented toes". My teen has a point - at some stage I must have not realised he needed new shoes & now his toes are posy-like blooming in all directions... Still, he's amused not peeved.
Big hugs to all who need them, happy travels to all in transit & parasols handy!0 -
Pleasures for today:
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Smallest cat was neutered. All went well and I can hear her throwing herself around the living room as though nothing has happened! They got me to pick her up 2 hours earlier than anticipated and mentioned that she never sits down!
3) Had not only my eyebrows threaded but also my sideburns. I was surprised just how painful that is. :-/ (They're not TOO bad, in case readers are picturing a werewolf!)
4) Sons came home. :-)
5) Went swimming with sons and my brother.
The not pleasure of today was going swimming to find smaller son cannot swim as in too much pain so he just walked around in the water. Since 3pm he has been lying flat as he now thinks he has a bladder infection as well as his ongoing problem. As he is already on the maximum dose of antibiotics (round 5), not sure there is anything I can do. I don't know whether to email the chief executive to see if there is a way round this (don't mind driving him to Birmingham hospital, for example) but not sure when I am going to get 10 minutes to myself to word it properly. Smaller son about to get in bed (I'm in it already!) to listen to Just a Minute.0 -
Frith - So sorry to hear your son is suffering. I do hope that it eases but also that they move the date forward, that seems a long way off.
Todays pleasures:
1 - Getting to do new things in work. I love a bit of extra responsibility.
2 - Ordering a few lovely new pieces of clothing (all with lots of discount)
3 - Getting an email offering free local theatre tickets for next month.
4 - Being motivated and getting stuck into something needing done in the house. Did an hours worth on one job, not sure it looks much different but it's done.
5 - Getting into my PJs and climbing into bed.0
