5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Pleasures for today:
1) Bit of a lie in.
2) Went to the local motor racing practice. One ancient car flung its chain off on the start line, which was exciting.
3) Nice wraps for lunch.
4) Brother in law came to talk to smaller son about his probably forthcoming operation (he had the same thing at the same age).
5) Went swimming with sons and my brother.
6) Had chips from the van for tea at my parents' house.
7) Watched Casualty.0 -
Starting to catch up on posts
Five pleasures for today:
1. DSs tackled the outdoor shed and did a makeshift tidy into it so a large quantity of 'stuff' has been put out of sight, out of mind, in a more ordered way. They worked really hard. :T
2. Got the rotary drier and rotaire up and working. Dried and aired (so rescued just in time!) quite a lot of clean washing left damp in plastic bags from the tail end of using the machine at the old house . We don't get our new washing machine installed until Friday so I think tomorrow may involve the laundrette. Washing is building up apace.
3. We have the tiniest patch of lawn in a courtyard garden. Thank you for that post Sparrer! :rotfl: DS2 discovered the little push-lawn mower that had been left in the tool shed, oiled it and had great fun using an OS one for the first time. I think I might get several willing lawn mowings from him before the novelty wears off. After that the lawn will become a wildflower meadow no doubt!:D
4. Have shifted tons of books around the house in bags and boxes ready for a major shelving project tomorrow. DS2 found the missing shelf-fixings too which was very helpful. Also got a no-longer-wanted piece of borrowed furniture into temporary store elsewhere ready for a decision to be made about it, but at least it's out of our tiny garage. :T
5. While I was out and about in the sunshine I stopped at our nearest mega garden centre (not wise on a bank holiday weekend!) and got two treats. One was a lovely plain wooden broom with soft bristles to sweep the floors indoors which are all either varnished or painted wood or slate. The other was a cuppa and piece of cake in the cafe. I have avoided succumbing to any treats like this for the whole of the move, other than W8rz freebies - the temptation to frequent cafes daily would have been too great - but I thought that I could justify just this one private celebration that we've done the move and survived.
Hugs to all. Sweet dreams.

Oh bother whole post vanished. Went something like...
Well done broomstick on the move
1) alternated housework with writing - result - tidy clean house and another 1700 words written. Am now up to the 12th century with the islamic world taking the mantle on medical science
2) ds came home unexpectedly just before i was headed off with the dogs to see the steam train from inverness pass through dundee so he came too
3) further dundonian excitement with a sell out crowd watching dundee win the championship
4) mum bought a £10 meal deal from m&s which we had round hers
5) then we watched part 3 of scicily unpacked. We were there this time last year and was great to see the bikini girls again

PK congratulations on your wedding anniversary
BoP enjoy your break. Lovely part of the country
CCP sorry to hear you weren't as on top as you could be but sounds like a very successful 5. Look after yourself
AWOL yesterday due to an amazing, impromptu day with a friend. We'd planned to see a film but got the wrong time so had 2 hours to kill and neither of us lives in that town so we wen't window shopping, had tea and giant cream scones (lunch) in a cafe but got 'asked to leave' because we were holding them up well past closing time, went into a garden shop and spent a small fortune (my friend's, not mine) on plants, bumped into a friend and her DH so chatted for 20 minutes, went into a cs and spent so long browsing (it was a huge cs!) the assistant was standing by the door rattling the keys because she wanted to lock up - chucked out of two shops in the same street in one afternoon - shame on us! Went across the road to a bookshop where my friend bought four essential course books and I got a gift for a birthday, went back to the cars to leave our wares then on to the cinema. We bought a massive box of popcorn (tea) between us and laughed all the way through 'The Other Woman', the funniest film I've seen in ages. Came out of the cinema at 7.30pm and suddenly realised it was Friday and there was a fellowship meeting in the town at 8pm, so rounded off the day with friends we hadn't seen for ages, a cuppa and a chocolate digestive (supper).
This morning my friend got up to go to boot camp at 7am, I got up to let the mutt out at 9.05am
Today I've done 2 loads of washing on economy (36 mins at 30 c, min spin as it was warm enough to dry the clothes outside.
Organised two weekends away for several of us during the summer.
Read all I could about everyone standing in the May elections. I'm more confused now than I was before I knew much about them
Made a curry in the sc from bits in the fridge and freezer using a value jar of Korma, chucked in some coconut and half a duck breast which has been lurking for months, and have to say it's delicious
Weeded all the pots. Made the decision that next year I'm not going to grow so many flowers but will cut down on the number of pots etc., (27 pots, 7 troughs and 9 hanging baskets in my wee space of 25 x 20 feet) and just grow some interesting shrubs which will make life easier. Trouble is there are so many I like! We will see what happens when the time comes

Sunday evening here and we reached the dizzy heights of 11o today, pouring with rain!
A day at work, new girl in today for a trial , seems very nice. Not madly busy and time went by quick enough.
Good drive there and back....no crazy drivers today.
Served 4 of my old customers today , nice to see them and say hello.
Went for late lunch with OH and DD2, shared potato wedges and then hummingbird cake.
Home and washing, washing and ironing. House now resembling a laundry and will do for next few months as I try to get it all dried.
Home with loads of leftovers, tea and tomorrow's lunches sorted !
Wore my new boots all day and they were very comfy
Have a fabulous Sundayhope the sun shines

BoP - chain & leather? Quirks eyebrow... And willow - ah, cricket! Raffles & ping pong ball - aww! Birthday flowers - in a can! Sometimes even a free lunch can be inedible. Ethics or just dislike the taste/texture? Senna 20 years ago - how come noone mentions Roland Ratzenberger? (Other than the children’s TV critter.) Raffles is devouring newts? (They are technically protected in law - awkward ground.) Cheers to the Texans - even if the US did bring us dried powdered egg. Darn tootin' it's nippy up North - we had Frost!
Frith - cats seems to be as complicated as family some days. Absolutely laud kitchen bin cleaning! So glad to hear of allotment neighbourliness but worrying about your little finger! Barry cat back, not be "muted" (there's an idea I shall curl up with on a cool evening!) Free running ? Delighted to hear big school being intelligent about smaller son & managing transition. If nurse reckons doctor should come see, Something is Up. All best with Consultant! "Never mind"?! That nurse will be fuming gently for you! Well done sticking at the desensitisation of younger son to GP & hoping brother in law is convincing. Motor racing practice sounds exciting!
Purple kitten - South Wales is an amazing place and has my heart in its Beacons. Laundry & holey clothes ring bells too! Seems entirely reasonable to put washing out when you know you'll have time to keep an eye on it. There's a printable LIDL voucher?! Well done only getting the berries as MrT, even if you'd hoped for better things! Happy wedding anniversary - every one is a special treat. Hospice walk sounds incredible - hope the bluebells hold off the aches!
Kittikins - good on you visiting the schools you might want to work in & hurrah for English Folder! I hear uke is easy but think guitar a more portable skill, somehow. Shakespeare! There's no gateway I'm aware of, you have to leap, but oh it's worth it. If it helps, I'm thoroughly positive about you at this small challenging school as I think they know it's blinking tricky but your planning skills will stand you in excellent stead. Your course leader sounds a sensible woman. Well done on your visit & on the email reminding you to get the app in! All the best! They now want you in person for interview so socks to this far more intelligent bit - it's *You* they want! Paper airplanes, evaluated by DD? Wonderful! You will cope with the planning for the range because you will have to & because you want to do the right thing & going in underprepared is not one of your vices!
VickyA - glad your Governor supports you - how else to get the Gifted to use it not cruise on it?! Well done budgeting for service even if schoolchildren "demote" you to cheerleading. All the best with Cadburyworld! You (all) survived! ParkRun is wonderful but if you're even slightly serious about timings, be sure you're at the front and not in the muddle at the start?! You are willing to help your school association (I couldn't.)? I don't feel *that* old either!
lovefullshelves - not yet stepped in catsh!t, but stepped barefoot on Cat kill. Leeks planted? Sounds so good, if blistering hard work! Reusing old boots as? Boots? Planters? Blimey that's a severe budget. Still, with cooperation, sure you'll achieve what you want to! Saw early new layout & agree (stuck on that on ipad so have to read via opera!) WW2 recipes definitely OS MS but seriously tasty! Tractor enthusiasts. Nice to take bows on your fathers behalf? That would be my worry about the living so frugally - I've not heard rabbits leaping into casseroles. Not sure my attempt at low carbing would work under a pound a day (but only on day 1.)
mcculloch - solar charger sounds fun! Tea sounds wonderful - different brews, different chuckles. You remind me - must defrost freezer (thank you!) & the shower cream sounds great fun. Occasional small treats are important!
DD - hurrah last square almost there (probably done by now?) Cayman Islands! May the Forth likewise! Well done with strategic flask usage & I had to install a new app for radio iplayer . There's serious writing! A "train magically suspended"?! Brilliant! If essay writing does that for housework, maybe I should try it. Loving the idea that "Am now up to the 12th century".
sparrer - photina doesn't half grow when it's happy - if you don't want it 15' all round, prune it. Three times a year is not too much according to RHS! You heroine, helping a friend with depression laugh! Loving the idea of "muttley & self" going for trim & blow dry together! Hooting with laughter at God, St.Francis & St.Catherine. Well done having a day off & loads of fun even if jobsworths chucked you out. The Other Woman, eh? Offhand doesn't sound my thing but I do love a laugh. Next year swap out a couple of flowers for herbs? Almost as pretty, smell lovely & taste glorious. (Just a tad biased, here!)
mhagster - for all you being on the other side of the globe, you put me forcibly in mind of various beloved Aunts who garden. They could contemplate lashing rain with relative equanimity, valuing a full water butt worth confined small relatives. You do get some customers! Locked in the loo - oh dear! Very glad to hear you're getting the Autumn colours. Hot Water Bottle season already? Eek. Well done your mum keeping on & blimey well done DD2 on the jeans! Hummingbird cake? Just on Google that looks spectacular & delicious. All the best with all the laundry!
VJSmum - Schipol? Excellent. Quite understand yellow ribbon not feeling appropriate. Only knew dyb thanks to Ian Hislop! Chinese checkers in its native environment, and Amsterdam as it awakens then Rijksmuseum! Spot the gifted traveller - "a mixture of make up, well chosen clothes, coffee, adrenalin and bravado" - bravo! Mother from hell leaves me wondering how candidate will cope without her. Possibly fine, possibly very steep learning curve! What is DS doing that require overalls & steelies?! But yippee on mopping up market bargains & then making real jams! Well done on the first pack of the season & in all honesty, is it not better to supervise that yourself?
supersaver - hurrah for Bank Holidays! Helping folk, two bowls of Cornish ice-cream & you made stalwart! Congratulations! 30 eggs for £3! Well done! Gruesome job doesn't preclude friends, development & a better next step - hang on in there! Family make it so much more survivable.
Tealady - "grocery underspend" is an idea I must investigate - but 2 teen sons & a 3rd trying hard makes it trickier! Well done you! You can't take trifle with amaretto into work & not share - I'm surprised they didn't unburden themselves of all secrets!
CCP - so sorry to hear of the anxiety . Hope it is responding. An academic essay quoting Pratchett?! Excellent & is there a weblink?! Well done on a review that permits management to reveal its limitations! You have *excellent* friends who can warn you of grim traffic! Well done on the Tripadvisor photo! (A couple of mine went up when they had the tie in with a photobook supplier.) London Cheesecakes look spectacular! Just message me if you want GoT disks. I'm a techie after all.
Broomstick - you know we're happy to see you at any time! Well done you leaving everything in good condition & what could be unreasonable about saying thank you & leaving good wishes? The new cottage built in the 1700s? Low ceilings I'd guess? How are your taller folks coping? Or are the ceilings not That low?! And you've an outbuilding! All the very best wishes for each room of the cottage & the occupants! Enjoy the fun of real vintage mowing (photos!) and well done rescuing laundry! May your new soft bristle broomstick clean & cosset the floors!
OS Pleasures recently
Child: "Mum's annoying me!"
Husband: "She does that sometimes."
Stereo: "Sometimes?"
(From child & myself!)
The household mood-altering drug of choice? Bacon.
Rabbi Pete on teachers - makes the hair stand up - he has all the right words in the right order.
Oat biscuits made in an after school club - delicious & Still Hot!
Looking at the remains of the cherry blossom & finding charm in the remains as well as the curves of the tree.
Eyeing the Ladbrokes advertising & reckoning the Soviets had better artwork & better lies.
"Why's it doing that Now?" - bemused colleague of her PC. I reassured her that whilst odd & inconvenient, temporary - most of what I'm asked for is reassurance!
Psychology, Jim, but not as I learned it. Eldest sent to bed for misconduct. Youngest sent "to tuck him in". Brawl conducted under watchful eyes (& cries of encouragement) until both blown & giggling & best of friends again.
Garlic the Dalek coming to a very sticky end as son takes crowbar to it. Silver sibling rolling lumpily over floorboards threatening London as the black meets its doom.
"So huggable & without the glass eyes - always a virtue in a mother" a startling indictment by my son of the perfectly competent mothering by those with prosthetic eyeballs.
Potting on herbs - some have bolted a bit, but windowsills covered in bigger pots of orderly hope. Fingernails unspeakable...
Started a low carb way of eating. Delayed it as husband had a baking day - bannock, spelt, maslin - time travel in bites! Pleasure in feeling I'm finally going to get a grip - less so that the menfolk are planning utterly separate meals.
Child reviewing google - "there's some Arnie Hepburn thing" - my imagination switches the shades, adds a pink neck scarf & sprightly ponytail & retreats boggling....
"How much money do you get?"
Eh?
"For putting shampoo with numbers on it on your hair?"
Some.
"You're a guinea pig!"
(Ulp.) It hadn't occurred to me that sometimes the trials seem a bit strange to the young & enquiring mind.
Went to museum where son doing Work Experience - mostly to get multiple museum entry card name sorted but also to surreptitiously check out the dress code. Looks like polo shirt & slacks (possible even School Trous) will be fine. (Phew!)
Big hugs to all who need them, HWBs liniment tiger balm & brandy to be taken (generously) as needed, and happy Bank Holidays all!0 -

 :rotfl:
Thanks for the offer of the GoT disks - I will probably be in touch when I've finished the books, as I don't want the two to clash.
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Chatting to my DM on the phone.
3) Wandered down to the bank holiday fair on the common, admiring the heavy horses and classic cars in almost equal proportions.
4) Watched the first half of Gateshead v Grimsby in a pub while sipping apple wobbleade and admiring some bar-keeping eye candy. (Far too young for me but hey, I was only looking. (As my sister would say - "I don't want to buy the dress; I don't even want to try the dress on; I'm just looking at the dress. :rotfl:)) ETA - just seen the final result of the match. Poor Grimsby - it looks like things didn't go well for them in the second half.
5) Might treat myself to a takeaway pizza tonight, as I've been emailed a BOGOF offer. My appetite has been dubious again for the past few days (darn anxiety) but I wolfed down a roast beef roll at the fair earlier and still feel peckish, so it might be worth a try.
Back after a very long break!0 -

2. Started my new health kick today, less caffeine, more water, seeds and fish - yum (I think)
3. £20 better off this month with cashback and reduced interest - just for shifting the savings around really
4. Fabulous dinner cooked by DH, he really is a good cook
5. Chat with my friend. We both have interviews in the next few weeks, so talked tactics and wished lots of luck

DFV herbs are a definite, although last time I grew rosemary it ended up almost 3 feet tall and looked like a not-so-miniature tree! Thanks for the tip about the photina
mhags hope the new girl comes up to scratch to make life a little easier at work
CCP pleased you have at least half an appetite. Hope you managed a pizza too
1. fun lunchtime meeting with friends as usual
2. went to Jordan's Mill for late lunch, was okay. A very limited choice (salad and jacket or 'roast' dinner), a huge cafe vaguely reminiscent of a holiday camp restaurant but much cleaner, very noisy compared to our usual pub restaurant but of course it's not carpeted. Wonderful views over the stream and weir. You pays yer money...
3. Brought home a big slice of millionaires shortbread which will cut into at least four portions. Will have a piece every few days to make it last
4. Went to a meeting this evening to give a talk, they seemed interested and asked lots of relevant questions.
5. Line of washing dried - rain forecast tomorrow so pleased I've cleared the laundry basket
