DD: Wow the Cayman islands sounds amazing. In one of my first roles back when I worked in life sciences, their idea of a conference was in a 5 star hotel in the Caribbean.
Ampersand: The fruit fairy is welcome to visit any time I will do my very best with them, now the garden is springing to spring I will gather some photo’s to post up, you are always welcome to visit, if you don’t mind taking us as we are of course (a bit of a tip).
Tealady: Sorry to hear about the redundancy, but I hope it also opens the door to new adventures.
Sparrer: This life is suiting you:)
I’m feeling apprehensive about the sabbatical later this year as both DH and I will be out of work. It’s something we have aimed for - for many years. And I am looking forward to it but I can’t help but feel somewhat apprehensive about the prospect of it. You only live once after all and we are going to enjoy a bit of time for a couple of months before finding work again.
1. I worked from home today which was lovely not to commute, I pre set up the work laptop last night it, and added my travel costs to the savings.
2 The OGV is meeting its maker, I always think it’s sad but there’s too much that would need doing, we can get another for the price it will cost the pleasure DH is loving researching and looking for the car, he’s in his element.
3 The old bashed up caravan is going tomorrow, both a pleasure and very sadreally as it holds lots of memories, but we said the insurers could not have it as they haven’t paid out as we don’t agree to their offer, so we have sold what we can, the carcass is off to be a trailer on a smallholding.:)
4 It makes way for us to get the concrete delivery in that’s coming Friday for us to build the mini animal proofing fence. We are with you ampersand as the fence that's ours, effectively our wedding present:rotfl: needs new coats of paint, have the paint just need the weather to do it.
5 Just got back from tonight’s Pilates class, glad I’m doing the course as I’m feeling like it’s doing good and improving my confidence:), but motivation to get to the classes is a bit lacking to be honest, but getting them done.0 -
Kittikins - well done on the observed lesson!
PK - I smile every time I see a car registration that has OGV in it. You'll have to buy another OGV!
Pleasures for today:
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Had hair cut at college - £3!
3) Dug on the allotment for about 1.5 hours so got a nice clear space to put up the greenhouse tomorrow.
4) Drink and a banana in Sainsburys before picking up sons.
5) Tasty curry for tea.
6) Paperwork has arrived for the allotment and I phone the man to make sure it was OK to put the greenhouse up.
7) Watched 24 Hours in A and E which is always fascinating.0 -
Dont wave farewell too soon bop still a few games in the season for us to grab defeat from the jaws of victory
pk my xoh is in lifesciences. Hasnt been to the caribbean islands but she's off to cold harbour sunday.
Well done on finishing the book vickya was it good?
1) pasta salad made with 1/2 tin sardines (40p a tin from l!dl)
2) mum invited me round for supper. Salmon nom nom
3) the three friends i've asked to do case studies during my teaching week have all agreed :-)
4) watching the windy weather on death in paradise. Mmm wonder how windy it'll be august 4th (bang in the middle of the hurricane season)
5) mum lent me another mavis cheek bookMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Evening all. Things have been a bit busy for the last few days. It's way later than everyone else but...
Yay  kiwiblue. I remember you too!
Lfs, I misread your post 26099 #3 'made donuts' as male donuts (it's those blinking biscuits again!) :rotfl:
Kk, it's lovely that your teaching is going from strength to strength - you are sounding so confident.:D
Sparrer, nine whole years is such a huge, fantastic achievement. Keep singing it from the rooftops. So much life to have reclaimed. :T
Frith, I'm very glad you are 'essentially normal'
Five pleasures for Wednesday:
1. NSD
2. Loads of yellow stuff which was particularly nice when I took a detour round a bit of countryside near here that I hadn't visited before to look for a cottage that I'd seen was for let. Lovely, lovely setting but a bit too close to a river that looked dodgy in terms of its proximity and floodedness. Shame, but great to see a new, very pretty little village.
3. Chat with vegbox people about the things that had gone wrong with my order this week. They offered refunds and free olive oil next week as a sorry which was great. Just have to work out what to do with the unexpected veg they sent!
4. Absolutely gorgeous pasta bake for supper with enough (providing DS1 doesn't take too big a helping when he gets in later) to do tomorrow night's packed supper as well.
5. Have turned around my totally miserable start to the day and have begun to make a really detailed list of how to make the move happen in a stress free way including beginning a list of small jobs that the DSs can get on with immediately. I've also begun a list of 'must haves' for the new place (eg out of flood zone and being able to dry clothes outside), as well as 'would be lovely' (eg woodburner/open fire)... might as well start sending out the right vibes!
Sweet dreams

Time flies.
1. I don't think I'd discovered this thread when Kiwiblue was last here, but how nice to have you return. I wish you strength with your fight.
2. I've just discovered I've been paid via bank transfer for work completed in early January but not approved for payment until last week. Normal business practice is that invoices take 30 days to settle, this one was paid in three days. Hooray! I sent a thank you email for such prompt settlement. It wasn't their fault that the work took so long to be approved.
3. Lots of yellow thing appearing which has been so cheering.
Riding on the trike without going in to the teeth of a Force Nine gale, what a difference it makes! I picked up bargains whilst shopping and was generally a happy bunny. One bargain a half - price knee support, better than the more expensive one I have. Pain on walking reduced.
4. Another bargain a lovely yellow and white bouquet of flowers, the colours of Spring. I have them on the coffee table next to me so that I can look at them often. My snowdrops can also be seen in my under-window flowerbed (it's a huge picture window) and the daffs are going great guns along with a few crocuses. The snowdrops have tripled in flowers this year.
Dr C. (my son for new readers, who looks like TV doc. Christian Jessel ) disturbed everything in that bed whilst weeding and it appears to have agreed with them.
5. Freebies in the post, always welcome, books, cereals.
Tomorrow is A!di voucher day in the Mirror, looking forward to seeing their offers. Especially as I have a few extra pennies for treats.
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Hello, Thursday bedtime here and I'm tired and looking forward to bed!
A day off , will be my last for a while as I'm covering extra shifts for interesting staff dynamics person! Then got a text to see if I could work even longer tomorrow ...yes , I replied....read on for reason why.
A bit of a lie in by my standards. Woke up at early o'clock but managed to doze again.
Was most productive. Wrote a list, put UK radio on iPad and did my chores and ticked off the list. Washing, ironing, hoovering, bathrooms, sweep front and back porches.
Sorted through a basket of hats, gloves and scarves , so a pile has gone to charity shop with a pile of stuff that DD2 had cleared out.
Returned books to library and posted a postcard to my favourite 6 year old.
More ironing ....from today's massive washing...where does it all come from? But watched current casualty on YouTube that someone had kindly uploaded, I've not seen it in weeks .
Had the biggest giggle with DD2 over a packet off maltesers.
Uni fees have to be paid tomorrow ...$14600 Gulp! So tonight gathered money from the various accounts it's been accrued in and will send tomorrow. This is almost £9000 and is for one semester only. They are this high because he is classed as an international student. Hence the yes , I will work extra hours tomorrow and over the weekend! Every little counts....and then we have to start and save for next semesters!
Happy Thursday everyone. Good to see you back tealady, now just need a chicken and a caterina to pop in and say hello0 -
Morning all - supposed to be writing a lecture on Employment Law. They do like to keep throwing things at me that I can't do. It will be very much the "bones" of it, I think.
Chicken - hope you are OK and that all is well. We are thinking of you.
VickyA - hope you are feeling better. I love that Ant and Dec sketch. The actual Jersey Boys show is brilliant too.
Frith - glad you are essentially normal
DD - Krakow, Cayman Islands???? Wow. Death in paradise has the most shocking acting in it I have seen in a long while.
LFS - Wow, the deer sound lovely
PQ - I need to make wrinkly veg soup too, but needed room in the freezer first. Hope the raisin wasn't too hairy
Mhags - ouch those fees are painful. Though there is talk that the fee cap will be removed in the UK soon, so who knows what the costs will be? It will go back to education for the upper classes only soon - if it isn't already.
Ampersand - I don't make marmalade from oranges, I really can't be doing with the "Marm" cutting. Mine comes from a tin and works perfectly.
Tealady - Sorry for your loss. But how fab about the mortgage. Truly generous
Bop - Happy Anniversary.
Skint - At least they are cooking and not getting takeaways
Sparrer - you are an inspiration and nothing is wasted if you take something from it. I have rhubarb too - my first one! Planted last year and left as instructed, so now have to look at how and when to pick
Kittikins - Goodness you are coming on apace!
PK - I need to do something to stretch my aching bones and joints. Theoretically I do yoga but haven't been in an age. I need a kick to get me started again.
Broomstick - good luck with the house hunt
McCulloch - I love yellow flowers
Yesterday's pleasures
1. Had an hour in the morning to potter round tidying the kitchen, for the new cleaner who has started today.
2. Got my hair done. My hair is so thick and curly that I just can't colour it properly myself. So off I went, coloured cut and blow dry. Costs a bit but I don't spend a fortune on myself generally
3. Was a bit late for work so couldn't tell them where I'd been. Lied and said I'd had hair done Tuesday night, of course EVERYONE was commenting on my hair so I had to keep fibbing over and over :rotfl:Didn't say anything about why I was late, I am hoping they think I went for a job interview
In the end I neednt' have driven like a demon down the motorway as the two applicants I was late for didn't turn up
4. Chilli from the freezer for tea - can actually shut drawers properly now.
5. Another night off - OH and I sat in lounge watching TV. Saw an old Grand Designs and Outnumbered. Two nights in a row - unheard of! Did a bit of knitting - but it's slow growing. My new spring jumper won't be ready till next spring, I think
Have a good day allI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Afternoon all.
Apologies for the lack of post yesterday - I was having a really 'anxious' day and couldn't find much pleasure in anything.Thinking back, though:
1) NSD. :money:
2) Lovely yellow stuff at lunchtime so I could go out for a walk...
3) ...then heavy rain overnight which washed off all the sawdust left on my car by the council's tree pruning activities.
4) Chatting to my DM on the phone - she has suffered from anxiety attacks in the past so was able to suggest a few calming techniques that meant I got at least some sleep last night.
5) Another 'helpful' vote for a review I wrote on TA - I never get tired of those.
Hugs to all having difficult times.Back after a very long break!0 -
kittikins - hurrah for Latin Club - is hoping all going well there. You do know the Etch-a-Sketch laptop fix? No point in Tiffing over cuddles, just cuddle the "opponent" into submission... Ah, the attempt at a Hard Stare from a novice. Don the glasses & return the compliment over the frame edge?! There are, and will be, other pools to splosh in together! Enjoy the cherubim (while it lasts) and giraffe puppet?!
Broomstick - "seem to have decided they are now a couple" - is this a 21st century engagement, marriage or intention of buying of property together?! Whichever, congratulations, and will you need a new hat?! Dead right to start drawing up To Do lists for DSs, as well as musts, shoulds & coulds for New Place.
Frith - strategic bandaging sounds only prudent, happy D&D & hoping jewellery making still a delight! Your CS-fu is awesome - hoping the shirt Master Frith the younger wants to wear still fits him on the happy day! Well done on sorting your Dad's truck insurance, best of luck with unboxing greenhouse & love your surgeon's decription! In my ignorance I thought greenhouses went up on concrete or flags - an hour & a half's digging is a new ingredient...
sparrer - if you want ironed sheets, it is entirely your prerogative. (Just one I'm mildly stunned by, is all!) Yippee that Aldi shop! Well done keeping medic running on time! Happy Birthday! Oh that I could resolve the paperwork with a shredder... Not organised enough.
Skint yet Again - with friends like that... Ah yes, SA biltong - DEFRA uses Customs to stop it coming in. Sorry - a few minutes googling would have spared him that, but at least he could get at his woollens! Glad to hear he's not eating you out of house & home, even if you do hear his voice most mealtimes!
kiwiblue - be welcome! How do you cook crayfish? Agreement on upholstery fabric is always a relief. Cream fabric in motorhome? Either major scotchguarding indicated, or paintwork, but then I've sons. Who appear to share your dog's enthuisasm for unexpected soakings! Real fresh tuna?
Ampersand - isn't it glorious to hear other voices reading the Bible? As in not professionals, but real untrained voices reading with their own interests and beliefs audible. Let us know how the Florentine altarpiece Hunt goes?! Fence panels collected - all the best with the painting. Well done wrabbit-wrangling - hope critter properly appreciative!
mhagster - sounds like your boss not only has a robust faith in you but that it is entirely rightly placed. Takes growing into. "using up home made lemon curd"? Dim memory suggests neighbour with lemon tree, hence real lemon curd not as gruesomely seasonal as it can be here. Glad mum sounding bright! Splendid day off - making & baking & being neighbourly! Praise from awkward soul? Cor! Enjoy your Spag Bol! Extra shifts & extra hours - blimey running an international student is expensive. Still, better educated than ignorant unless selling for parts.
BoP - cheers for the Chicken Tikka recipe! I'm sorely tempted to hand it as is to firstborn, but he's a shrimp in comparison & thus I will translate somewhat. Many thanks! Come on, Martin - gage is down... Must try that fruit salad when payday comes! Happy Anniversary of first sighting!
lovefullshelves - enjoying the converse shoes? "3 blackcurrant buses where I killed the lavender bushes" - my lavender didn't survive either but it was replaced with herbs - may your blackcurrants thrive! What is a leftover artichoke? Other than a delight to you watching it being eaten by deer? Well done on being able to feel ribs - although too many choc-dunked spaceships will cure that! Emergency tin at £780?! <Stunned Awe!>
CCP - there are times Isis puts me in mind of a baby - wanting to play at silly o'clock. Glad she's calmed about the humidifier & taking her meds - hope yours don't waste you away! We too have needed blinds as the Yellow Stuff comes pouring in. Hoping Isis emerges to see what parcel is! Well timed rain that washed tree prunings away, after you'd had a stroll in the yellow stuff!
VickyA - my abject apologies re:ironing. I'm developing a special signature dish, "YS soup". You've been paid Already?! Serving pizza with a glass of wine? My lads would give me *such* a look. They're strictly Cola with pizza types! Must see if the temp Amazon Famly includes streaming movies - thank you for putting the idea into my head! Step away from the Lakeland catalogue...
DD - passphrases *can* be easier and safer - I find adding minor swearwords help both memory & typing. Atta girl on knitting weeping angels! Ulp! Must research Salamander - wikipedia sounds enthuisiastic. These minor acts of kindness are vital - saving PhDs, getting invites for others, and possibilities for yourself! Case studies in teaching week? (please translate?)
Purple kitten - ah, working from home, with lunch in a park. <Sighs she from the office desk. > My stroppy animals demanded a Chinese takeaway, but one is officially now a teenager. (Eek.) You loose both OGV & previous caravan in one swoop? Owch. A wedding present fence - there's an *intriguing* gift.
VJsmum - you know we back you backing young sir - hopefully the right team will win, reinforcing the delights of money of one's own & you can dripfeed the wisdom (and rousing cheer) as your grace & wisdom suggests. You have a 40 year old sister? First daff and Confirmation of Genoa?! Whoopee to come! Tidying the kitchen before the new cleaner - blimey, I used to clean for a woman like your good self - she made my job a doddle as all the surfaces were clear, the cleaning tech worked & often she'd already emptied the bins! Enjoy the hair & overlook the motorway hurtling!
Patchwork - why is it the most dubious sounding soups can taste so good?! Unexpectedly found sweets taste better too, and are officially calorie free!
Tealady - sorry for your loss and botherations over 99% certain redundancy. You are loved & appreciated, and others will learn to, so whilst a tinge of blue is entirely reasonable, allow fireworks of hope to illuminate the future?
mcculloch - the gardening method of trampling whilst weeding is known as occasionally productive. Delighted to hear daffs, snowdrops & crocuses as well as bargain bouqet all delighting the eyes!
Chickenopolis - where the devil are you & small terrier, dear girl? Likewise Caterina?!
OS Pleasures recently
Is it just me or does the slender arc of the Moon put them in mind of the DeathStar?
I have the doings for Yellow Sticker Soup!
Looking for & grinning at decorative brickwork in Manchester - plenty to enjoy, in little corners & on main streets.
The comfortable ethical quandary - to buy teabags to get the freebie PG Tips heat sensitive mug, or not. (We have 2 already, but they are really nice generous, as well as funny, mugs.) Just not a PG fan...
Watching the buds on the cherry trees - blossom in 4 weeks? Right now, not looking likely, but I'm delighted to be surprised!
Another morning bright & clear yet not subzero!
Very small brown bird skippetting past me, far more concerned with breakfast than this odd thing to one side.
Heard a snippet of Abba's Fernando & was transported back to a time where I had mostly milk teeth. Still awed by the diction!
Wonderful what an extra hour's sleep does for the joie de vivre, although the traffic was a beast.
Spotted TWO Walking Buses! Aww! Fleccy jackets, warm hats, happy smiles!
Hurrah for Asda Customer Services, who reassured me I could have cash back for the asking (after several bad face to cashpoint moments) & thus my Second Teenager got his choice of birthday nosh!
Yellow stuff! Which I can enjoy even shackled to my desk.
Cheerful banter as one floor in the building reports a lack of water - last time these emails flew, those still in the building were sent home early. (Today I go in half an hour Anyway.)
Big hugs to those who need them, may your fences stay upright & thank you for the Yellow Stuff!0 -
I feer BoPsie has been surfing in this area and she thinks I forgets my glasses on the Beer call
We had buckets for the beer, and the beer glasses were forgettens. So we drank straight from the bucket.
Goes home, tail between the legs and fogerts choccies!!!!0
