    Evening all.

Have caught up on all the posts since the end of last week. What a good read!
:wave::wave: to all the new people posting.
Ampersand thanks for the posts about the petitions (now signed) and about the reminder on medical records (will sort that later in the week). I've decided that I'm going to wear some kind of medical alert bracelet. That way important info is on my person and I'm in control of it if there is a problem.
KK, I've been wondering how your locality was coping with floods - have you got friends whose property is affected? I can imagine that travel might be getting awkward in places.
I'm feeling relieved that we are still ok in terms of floods, although the river upstream is now very high again. I have a rather guilty feeling that we are keeping ok because they are letting the water from our rivers flood the Thames. It was so sad watching people on the news talk about possible deliberate further flooding of their homes to save others. No win. :(

But this thread is about pleasures so here's my five pleasures for Wednesday:

    1. Bribing DS2 just now with a packet of Pom Bear Crisps (bought on a bogof on packs of 6) to finish the washing up that he started. It's working! A very cheap bribe :T

    2. Bright, bright sunshine mid-afternoon, suddenly skies go dark and there are torrential hail stones- big ones that set the car alarms off - for ten minutes or so, then just as suddenly there is bright, bright sunshine melting the mountains of ice on the doorstep. Extraordinary but rather exciting.

    3. DS1 got through an informal interview about his possible Masters/PhD proposal. He's now being put forward for a formal interview and has nearly got his academic referees sorted as well. It's all happening a bit quickly.

    4. Supermarket made such a hash of trying to get my shopping processed properly through the till - it was not recognising the offers - they ended up giving me a freebie little box of chocolates to say sorry. I can't eat them 'cos of allergies but I'm sure we'll find a good home for them. :D

    5. Just feeling glad that we have a warm, dry home with power, a working plumbing system and a roof, food in the cupboards and food on the table. Just need DS1 back home - he'll be back after midnight - and then all will be in order.:)

    Sweet dreams,

    B x

We shall indeed agree to disagree, bop - as per vjm. But you cannot seriously imagine treatment of any kind or urgency would be witheld, unreferenced, undiagnosed because you had not allowed this unsurveilled access to your medical history.
We'll agree here: 'Just never give in. Take no prisoners.' Mutual application, shall we say?

So. it's 2 as I recall, Venturing to recuperate incinerator, saw it had been joined by one of nextdoor's Bunny Towers rooftops! 2m x 1m, lugged back, still in one piece and restored by neighbour's daughter & & in gales. Had spare concrete fence strainer so that's up there too. Bit of a job.

    3. Good soup+add-ons brewing nicely, day 2. Mr T timing perfick - yellow stickers thought it was bop trumpeting Easter and 2 abandoned tillspits for 11p and £1.41 to use next time.

5.Chanel-ed this no. on way through John Lewis, after

4....which was an at-last Library collect of 3 reserved books. Feast time! While thinking to save new Horatio Clare and Ann Cleeves as some variant of 'best for last', started Celia Lashlie's He'll Be Ok: Growing Gorgeous Boys Into Good Men - and next thing was half-way through, still in Cambridge Central. I'll be buying this one, more than once, and am grateful for many Library reads, factors in such decisions.
Turns out she was NZ's first woman prison officer, so I will have to read her other book on this, too. Remarkable writing and brilliant insights, much recognition lol too - absolutely a must for all adults- inc. those in gestation, parents or no, teachers/educators or no. An essential book for Life.

Well done little new chicken girls.

I thought in a rabid sort of Daily Male dim way, How Come We in Fens, with East Angular tipping into the sea, houses ditto, are not being flooded out? A bit like sparrer's flood plain equivalent?...

VJsmum - hope your headache clears quickly x

VickyA - how did you get on today? My fingers are aching from being crossed that it was brilliant...x

Broomstick - luckily my village is okayish, sadly for some people whose road shares a communal septic tank it's not been great....well you can imagine the rest, yesterday was not fun for them, but I think it was fixed somehow today. The village where my placement school is was badly flooded last week, and today we took the class on a walk around to see how much the water has gone down.

    1. Day 3 of placement school has gone well :) I survived the walk through the mud and twigs with the class - phew!

    2. I've planned a killer (hmmmm) lesson for tomorrow, my first of the placement, woohoo! Here's hoping they all learn something!!!

    3. PTA meeting tonight - and I wasn't hugely late for once!!

    4. Big cuddles with a slightly poorly DD, she's coming down with a horrible cold, earache, tummy ache etc....I think it's half-termitis, she used to get ill just before half term in Reception/Year 1 :( Glad we were able to have some mummy/daughter time tonight.

    5. Hot chocolate and choccies in the classroom after our morning walking around the village :)

My heart goes to all the people affected by the floods. Hope you are all safe and not too affected.

Sparrer hope your DD feels better now with the meds.

Kittikins best wishes for speedy recovery for your DD.

    Here's me today:

    1. Visit from DD, difficult issue sadly still present but she is aware of the need to change, and it was lovely to see her anyway.
    2. Spelt banana pancakes for brunch (read: very late breakfast!).
    3. Good yoga class
    4. The chimney people came back to fix the stove and made a fire in it to test it
    5. So I took advantage and I cooked part of our dinner for tonight, soup for tomorrow dinner and oat groats for tomorrow breakfast on it.

    Good night
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

I agree with re the medical records BoP - though it pains to agree with you :p
Thank you for the picture Frith. When we were in Droitwich there was a torrential downpour for days which caused a natural spring to burst and come up through our cellar, which ex OH used as his office. The fire service having to pump it out and then having dehumidifiers for weeks was bad enough, I can't imagine what people are feeling seeing their whole homes being destroyed.
Hoping everyone stays safe and water free.
lfs the dog biscuit recipe is

Save all your old bits of peel, leaves, veg & salad stuff etc (not onion skin) in a tub in the freezer, add to it daily til tub is full
Buy a tray of pigs liver (65/70p) and whoosh it with the defrosted veg. I use a stick blender but make sure the bowl is deep or you'll be covered in the stuff, as I found out the first time I did it!
Add a good slug of olive oil, say 1/2 cup
Add garlic - 5/6 crushed cloves or a tablespoon of garlic powder
    Add 3 large eggs
Whoosh again til all blended together.
Add flour (I use basics), mix with a wooden spoon til very stiff.
Oil a roasting tin put mixture in and spread evenly
Put in a preheated oven about 175c for an hour. Take out and mark into 1" squares with a pizza wheel or knife. Put back in and cook for a further 1 1/2 to 2 hours until hard. Turn oven off and leave in oven until cold, or overnight. Break into squares and freeze. Keeps in the fridge for about 4/5 days.

CCP & Caterina thank you, DD has slept at last. Whether through sheer exhaustion or as a result of the meds or a combination of both I don't know, it's just such a relief that she has. Hopefully she can now sleep through some of the pain until this flare is over.
Chicken I had to smile at your 2. I didn't have a fob until I bought the new-to-me car last year, and still have to look to see whether I'm locking or unlocking it :o

    1. good haircut at the college, lovely girl who finishes her training at Easter and has a job to go to. Nice to hear as it's quite a popular career so can be difficult to find a position. Very pleased with the cut even if I did get windswept the second I stepped out of the door
    2. called in to see a friend who lives near the college, had a cuppa and sorted out the world with her
    3. home to a warming cauli cheese with Cumberland sausage and runner beans all from the freezer
    4. a naughty lazy afternoon snoozing through the washing machine and bm, half watching a film which of course I missed the end of
    5. a friend just back from skiing has brought me some Swiss chocolate, I'm very tempted to eat more than I 'need' so I've broken it into squares are put it in the freezer.

    Stay safe, sweet dreams :)

Hello from an over heated me! Very humid today which is unusual for Melbourne.

So my pleasures included waking up early , having had a decent sleep, phone calls home and then popped back into bed. Said farewell to everyone as they went off to work/ school and rela......x. Not quite!

DD2 phoned in a terrible state from playground ,nasty biatch from last year has started up again. Told DD2 to come straight home and I would get up and shower and take her into school myself.
Quick howl in the shower, as it had been a case of so far so good, she ended last year on a really positive note, we've worked hard over the summer building her self confidence, promoting life in Australia etc ( she would be back in UK in a heartbeat) and then some silly cow does something nasty and it all falls to pieces.
So , over to school, in rush hour traffic ( however, in my newly fixed car:))
Asked to speak to year head, signed DD2 in late ( by 10mins) , he wasn't available but did call me later. He would deal with it, several frantic calls from DD2 and then one saying biatch has been punished...she denied it but others backed up DDs side and she faces the consequences. So all credit to year head for acting very quickly. DD still miserable as she is seen as a tell tale....or dibby dob as they are called here.
In amongst this DD1 sends me a desperate text, she is on school camp until tomorrow and is obviously miserable! So much for my peaceful day off.

However after school drop off , I went to supermarket and did grocery shop. Got lots of special offers.

Breakfast of rtc chocolate eclair :)

Pottered around kitchen and cleaning bathrooms in between watching ye olde casualty.

Did a bit if gardening in veg patch, planted some pumpkin seeds. Lifted a few tomato plants as I really think they are past their best. Watered them with shower water and ice from the back of the fridge. A whole wall of ice had built up, so I emptied fridge into cool box ( or Eski as we call them here) and let it defrost enough to come off easily.

I was swearing like a trooper at the pesky flies in the garden but was being watched over by baby tawny frog mouth ( all on his own today ) so had to curb my language :)

Popped up to post office ! So yesterday , note through door( pushed under door as we don't have letter boxes in doors, we have mail boxes at end of gardens, saying you've missed a delivery and parcel is at post office . So off I trotted to collect OHs contact lens delivery.....but no! I was not him! even though I took a utility bill with address on it, I was told I could have lifted that out of anyone's mail box.....my ID is my UK drivers license ( under the visa we are on I don't need an Australian one) that was not acceptable. The woman behind counter was being so jobs worthy! I am in there several times a month , have been given a parcel before without ID and was rather p'd off! It was hot, it was humid, I'd been at work all day.....!
So today, off I went with my UK passport and the nicer one gave it to me without looking at it!! She was there in background yesterday but I think bossy boots was her supervisor! anyway...OH now has contact lenses so shall be able to see!

Passed flower shop and on a whim treated myself to some beautiful sunflowers. They were probably the cheapest flowers in the shop seeing as it's valentines day tomorrow. They look lovely sitting in my front room.

Sat on my sofa and enjoyed some crusty bread and pate for a late lunch.

And that ladies and pirate Pete has been my day off:)

Have a good day. Stay as dry and warm as you can.....I shall just melt quietly:)

Back in the slush, well that was all it was. Oh, and I appear to has upset &. Oh no, my bristles will be singed. Just like that Spanish fleet and their King

Oh well, suppose I must say why I am not opting out. In mes work at the salt mine, I do a lot with figures, and we know that there are lies, darn lies and statisticians. I am the latter part I get loads of data, all of it synthesised and cleansed. No not medical ones, but engineering. It has tags on it so it could be verified, yet I see not of these items. Some actually comes from medical equipment. And in other industries, I have a piece of kit that is tested in the same way, ah, there she goes :heartpuls Well, the salt mine I previously hacked at, had a medical division. And they did get data. Used to verify the use of their equipment. You probably used it without knowing. Now it got feedback on who had used it, when where, age etc. Now once, they received some data, not from the UK, that was not cleansed. In the normal sense, they did not have the post code, zip code, but do have the age, sex and other information. Yes they do need this, but location and DoB was stripped. Names were stripped before it got to the place. Once, a set of data was received that had DoB and Post codes on it. It was taken into the data set for analyses, before anyone noticed the mistake. But the alarm was raised as two expected fields were complete. DoB and Post code. I was part of the team that saw that data destroyed, and the whole data set for that year destroyed, because it could have been contaminated. No data for that year was used, costing the company, well the other division, a considerable sum of money in lost data. That data may had a significant piece of information, that could had led to a cure, or a drug introduced early. Or even, a side effect of a drug being discovered. Because of that, this was missed that year. That is why I will not sign.

Why does the data need a tag and a trace. The data is supplied as a verifiable data, that can, should the need to implement a change of new pieces of equipment where I work, need to verify that data is accurate. The use of DoB and ZiP/Post Code is the only means to verify this data set.

And while we are at it, Most of my rebuilds have been done outwith of the NHS, oh no I hear. The NHS is a scoop service, not a preventative service. Well, when I did my back, in Dubai, I was MRI scanned within 5 days, given treatment and flown home. Went to the hospital, arranged from the Middle east on the Saturday, and saw junior quack, who examined me. He said I should have a MRI scan. No probs, here is the one I had done earlier. OK, best we get a specialist to look. No problems, here is his report 9in English and Arabic!!). Oh, they have done the good part. Physio for you, starts Monday. Fixed. The waiting list for an MRI scan then was 8 weeks! Why was there a waiting list.

Because since Mr Wilson and Mr Bevan were against the prescription and dental charges, politicians have got themselves too involved in the system. As long as it is used as a political football, run by bean counting civil servants, it will never deliver a true serviced.

The same as the railways. Two world wars reduced the railways to a thread bare existence. Then it was nationalised and the investment was at the whim of a 4 year term government. Yes some tried to do something about, and probably, the ex chief of ICI, Dr. Beeching did more than most to leave a viable railway, only for the media to criticise him and still no investment. Only just last week was a deal worth noting done by Bombardier, to have a fleet of trains, and manage them for thirty years. Yet in the NHS, a thirty year plan would be cuit up by the next election.

And tomorrow, at the emporium called Mr T, you can spend the vouchers he hath sent, we got £1.50!!! (petrol at Esso!) you just in time for half term, yet willingly give over the card as he gathers personal shopping information from you again. The next vouchers he will release at Easter. Presently our worth is 4(p You only get 1 point per two litres of petrol! 20 pence a week no goes far. It will be liquidated to a bottle of pop for BoPsie

Rite, if you got that far. Here is your five.

5 You nose how good it feels to gets it off your chest.

4 Would had run off with things to say. But BoPise, in mood at this time of year for her wedding anniversary, on 28th, is eying up the chocolate hearts and toys with a glee, knowing they will be left on the shelf, just like the blond, six footer. She is all geared up for tomorrow night as we go thirst dating, or watching the thirst daters.. So keep you flowers dry and think chocolate. But grab the barguns on SatDi morn.

3 Tonight is Guy vs Gals at Camera club. Got me images in, but BoPsie, I nose she is reading. She pilthed one of mine. I have already scored it like Norway.

2 I will be in the dog house later, as usual. Think my friend & has the keys at the moment,

1 Validation and Verification. If I can see the picture in my sample, I have knowledge of what is in the population.

Other Liars, damn Liars and statisticians create the Chaos theory. And then forecast the weather!

Ands I fergets, it is the mutality of the application that makes the diference, no just kow towing when the sheep hear the bark of the dog running across the meadow.
So here goes &, and she asked for it,

Yep, they used windmills to pump the water to drain the fens! The Dutch came over to do it, so!

Gosh, do you all nose what. I am really going to enjoy that cheap chocolate heart with BoPsie on SatDi Morning!

Sighs, and goes back to counting the beans!
  • A late one for Weds, as we got back in the early hours of the morning after a wonderful day out.:j
After a lovely slow wake up we ventured out to Brighton for the rest of the day.:p
Our first eye opener was of course finding a car park with enough height for the car, but we did one and it was cheap as chips.:T
We did a part of Brighton that seems to have all the hidden fruit, meat and charity shops, we got 2 work tops, a scarf, a load of butcher pet meat throw out, and a ridiculously big pack of bacon bits, that I have just decanted into smalled portions and frozen.:D
We got drenched, so we took the shopping back to the car literally used a towel to dry off change and head back out again, this time we headed to the flea markets as we have never been down in a week day it was so nice to not have to do battle with crowds and we spent vast amounts of time browsing, saying things like "I used to have this":rotfl: and that and reminiscing, and we bought a few bits and bobs, model cars, a model bus with the name of one of our pets on, and a proper vintage rather than fake vintage tin which has our surname on, and a whole vast bunch of knitting needles for 2 squid, and bags of herbs, lavender, rosehip powder, and cinnamon pods all stocked up on.
We had a voucher for a little caf! we have eaten at before so we warmed up and got a much needed tea, and had a lovely hot toastie sandwich, which we followed with an amazing ice cream sundae each, and the bill was half price it was a lovely mse way to warm up.:D
We then slowly walked and window shopped over to the theatre for the evening to see Derren Brown, which was an amazing way to spend the evening and left us with so so many questions of how does he do it. Wow and just incredible really.:T:T

The only sad thing was time has moved on in Brighton, it has admittedly been a long while since we ventured that way and a vast amount of the unique shops have now gone, one is now online and 4 have disappeared. Oh and whole wonderful market that we used to love and get lots from is now gone completely. :(

All in all a very lovely day, and a cheat mse early valentine.:):)

    For today
    1. OK I admit it, I was shattered from yesterday on a school day so worked from home,:o but did a lot of work, and it was a nightmare but.
    2. Remembered to get steak out of the freezer for valentines meal tomorrow.
    3. Let the animals roam about in the house and garden as I was about.
    4. Thursday is a bad day to visit Mr T this end I don’t hold out much hope of rtcs but you never know, positive thinking etc.
    5. Might just have to get a Derren Brown book out of curiosity into how his mind works.

Now to catch up on your wonderful pleasures on here.

Life is so quiet, difficult to put together five for those reasons but many thanks for all yours.

    1) A secure, safe, warm, dry home that will stay all of these things. Four years ago it was a very different story, the roof leaked, the outhouse flat roof leaked, the staircase was a death-trap, the wooden garden door had destroyed itself in high winds for the second time in ten years. All of those issues are now sorted. The garden door is now a posh secure wrought - iron gate.

    2. Still enjoying my bouquet of prize flowers two weeks after they arrived.

    3. Straighteners. For the past few years my hair has been a nightmare in damp weather, kinking and fluffing. Straighteners sort them in three minutes flat and leave me looking presentable. Plus these were ones that Amazon gave me as freebies. :)

    4. Speaking of freebies, a luxury shampoo and conditioner used this morning, sachets that arrived in the post. Something I would never buy for myself, I do love freebies.

    5. Dr C. took me shopping, I love the trike but sometimes it just is so much easier to jump in the car, use the blue badge and get the space right next to the door at A!di.
He almost always gets this space, I know it wouldn't happen if I was driving. King jammy, he is.
Lots of lovely goodies in the trolley, o.k. Dr C. pushed the bill up a bit but was good company going round the store and carried all the bags in too.
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.
  • Glad to hear you are safe from flooding tealady & broomstick

    PK ... lovely post.

Chicken I have broken my fob - I can only open car using it now and have to put the key in the door to lock it, amazing how such a little thing is such a pain!

VJsmum hope you are feeling better

    Pleasures

    1. good sleep
    2. walk in sunshine along foreshore this afternoon - tide was out - and was warm with wind behind me!
    3. late afternoon snooze... after all that fresh air and exercise
    4. eating from stores whilst DS away as I am skint. Made a big pasta bake last night chucked in all shrivelled veg lingering in fridge (mouldy bits cut off... eek!) enough for 4 evening meals and some for lunch today
    5. found a pork chop hiding in freezer so braised with onion, jacket spud, half bag frozen aldi cauli cheese and used up last of sprouts lingering in fridge...bbf 2 Jan!

May regret those sprouts later but what the heck.... there is only me here :rotfl:

Not expecting to fall over mountain of valentines cards tomorrow ;)
