Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
Evening all, with a quick five as I barely slept last night and feel utterly dreadful this evening. :(

Thanks for your concerns over Isis - she was very unwell overnight and, after a rather pricy trip to the emergency vet, has been tentatively diagnosed with a stress-related illness. :( Of course she is now even more stressed after being chased, boxed, and pulled about by a vet - even a bowl of her favourite food hasn't persuaded her to come out of the carrying box, from where she has spent the afternoon giving me scared, reproachful looks. I really hope she's better by tomorrow or I'll have to take her back, which will only make the stress worse, I feel.

Sorry, this is a 'pleasure' thread, isn't it!

    1) Despite obviously feeling very unwell, and despite yesterday's carrying box fiasco, Isis woke me up for her usual early morning fuss. :D

    2) The kind pet-sitter who looked after her over Christmas came over to help me catch and box Isis, and refused to take any payment. :T

    3) Kind, cat-loving taxi driver driving slowly and carefully up to the emergency vet so as not to upset Isis any further.

    4) After I got back I had a long chat to my DM about how anxious I am about Isis, and that she might be happier going back to the CP and finding another, less stressful home. My DM very wisely advised me to leave things for a while before making a decision, and, in the meantime, see my GP about getting my anxiety levels under control. :o

    5) Spent the afternoon watching ice skating and struggling to keep my eyes open - I think I'll be having a very early night tonight!

Hope everyone has managed to stay dry and safe today.
Back after a very long break!

Poor isis and poor you ccp hope you dont go down with a stress-related illness! One of our cats from cat rescue was soooo nervous when she arrived we never saw her for the first month! She now lives in my bedroom, only coming out for food and the cat tray (there's a relief!), never venturing downstairs! But i do believe in her stressed way with her stress-related sneezles she's as happy as she can ever be.
Very lazy day. First real relax since xmas what with going away, teaching then hosting visitor.
    1) went round to dm's for coffee and blether. Returned her case and dd1 and dd2 returned my cases yesterday so musical cases has stopped with all in right addresses
    2) felt like spring was in the air.
    3) gbf came round and we took the dogs up the park. He wanted to get 'action shots' for his photography class. Winter returned brrrrr but we were well wrapped-up
    4) l!dl shop £15.28
    5) watched yestersday's match on iplayer. Can just about spot me and ds 77:55 into match :-)
Right off to watch france/italy. Xoh has dyed my hair which is now looking good. All week it's been dye another day. Then early night
    Hugs to all xxx

PQ - ' Purple is good.' Et oui, let's have it loud: :DPURPLE IS GOOD:D

    1. &was less loud hier@The Alma, not quite the same intensity, but a great afternoon again. Great acquaintance struck with nice man who played Palmerston North Boys' High[Joe S-c-h-m-i-d-t's [Why is his surname deleted?]career alma mater]there and here, senior schoolboy tours, 28 years ago, he calculated. Happy exchanges. He now has a daughter, 6+1/2, who longs to play rugby, but Mum won't have it... He steers clear on this one. Daughter WILL find her own way.
Couldn't be sure DD, but assume that was you in Match Deux having a wee cheer just along there 7 rows up. Bit of a walloping for those North of Border.

    2. Decent result for Les Bleus this arvo and for Toulon hier at Biarritz. About time. Enjoyed long-range, while out in one of &'s bits of lost Fen with book, Thermos, South and West-facing for beausoleil on face, aka yellow thing.

    3. Perfect late timing hier soir. Mr T for petrol was also lovely ham-on-bone, end-of, chuck-out time on deli counter. BLASPHEMY! Beautiful soup in the still as we speak - and gratuit.

    4. Another dozen Vicarage eggs after Communion. They're always an interesting size mix. Some tricky news to address demain.

    5. Double-yolker, Holy of course, with heavily seedy h-m bread and good coffee-always a simple, heavenly marriage, plus usual plain yogurt and fresh citrus fruit this a.m. Consumed looking out on noisy, tossing trees, flapping growhouse[well-anchored]and high-speed clouds on blue.

    6. Hearing tribute to John Tavener again:

and Hooray!, more from this excellent chap, Adam Gopnik:

Raffles, your Winter Olympics Freestyle Scrabble routine is a thing of magnificence, if clearly exhausting. I see no room for improvement. Here are your ISU Judging System marks for Technical Merit, Required Elements[in case you are playing the short game] and Presentation: Purrfect 6, Purrfect 6, Purrfect 6.

Welcome DphD, which is how I will distinguish you from DD. Can you appeal that refusal? ask why artlessly, pure and simple? why not?

Oh chicken, or chickle-fickle so far as Mrs red hen's concerned. Can picture it all, seen before. Fury and indignation isn't near. Comic outrage.

pk- as usual, chicken's sound advice, re: TS, is one to follow up. Saying 'too late now' is leaving rogue traders unfettered to repeat felony. Your report can be a needed brick-in-wall they can build.

    CCP/Isis - big hugs xxx

Broomstick - hope the floods have passed your house by, a lot of places between thee and me have been impassable of late x

    1. Mummykins made amazing apricot fairy cakes for us this afternoon, nomnomnom.

    2. Yippee - my placement school looks like it should be open tomorrow :) (the village was 2ft under water on Friday!). Looking forward to being back in school again :)

    3. I've just ordered some new boots (not wellies as I can't wear them :() as the sole has started flapping on one of the ones I currently live in! Used a 20% discount code that expires tonight, so MS as well :)

    4. I'm feeling reasonably organised for the week ahead. I have a box of biscuits for the staff room, my folders are prepared and I am charging my phone - what more could I need to do?

    5. DD and I had a nice afternoon snuggled up on the sofa watching a film together. It's been ages since we some home alone time.

    6. Started a lovely new notebook, it's got ice creams and ice lollies all over the cover. It'll make me feel summery, even though we're due yet more storms!

VJsmum - MiL still breathing? You just do not get the credit! Padua - have a wonderful time!
Caterina - time with DH should be precious, especially if he brings you breakfast in bed!
Frith - of course you are the best mummy, and honestly, gastoscopy is Quick. Under 10 minutes. Spend the time thinking on *exactly* where you want things in the allotment.
Debtphobic - can you appeal the refusal? Denial of developmental opportunities is harrassemnt/bnullying, no? Corned beef hash is seriously good food.
Purple kitten - these persons of unmarried parentage should be stomped on. Enjoy the brandy! (I'm with Chicken - report the so & sos.) Freezer lottery sounds lots of fun!
sparrer - hurrah for birthday season, even if I'm the other end of the spectrum regarding steak!
DD - next I'm in Edinburgh there will be a pm asking where this skinny triangle pizza place is! Greyfriars Bobby one of my childhood Walks With Grandparents landmarks! So good to read someone else eating Christmas pud at non-standard times. "All week it's been dye another day" - oh, dear!
mhagster - yummy icecream & tawny frogmouths are unspeakably cute! Hoping car can be coaxed into affordable health.
BoP - a brew in bed & hoops on toast - she's a lucky lady! Door stop carrots are cut how? (Need something to coax boys into eating them!) All the best with Scrabble!
Patchwork - roast dinner "so they go back to Uni feeling full" is brilliant! And any home made soup is good, but with home made stock is especially so.
Chickenopolis - I have plans to kidnap BoP, MsBopsie & Raffles thus bringing top scran & yellow stuff to Lancs. Shall we take turns? Or figure cloning?! Hurrah the Facething means you have new chooks (and pro tem civil war) & thankyou for clarification on roast chicken origins.
lovefullshelves - good to hear you sounding chipper! I'm all for cute deer, but not eating my veggies...

CCP - glad to hear Isis has a diagnosis - please, get a full night's sleep and look after yourself & I do hope all settles down!
Ampersand - rugby, like a cold, cannot be hidden. Every confidence your friend's lass will get her way. Ham-on-the-bone being transformed into delice du jour - excellent! Holy double yolker sounds like a superlative start to the day. (So glad it's not just me playing where-the-devil-is-it with the thanks button!)
kittikins - all the best with no longer sub-aqua school! Snuggles with daughter important, nay vital, for you both!

    OS Pleasures
Thank you to all who mentioned the Torville & Dean programme - an amazing hour & was it Really 30 years ago?!

Son cutting toenails (without prompting!) in bathtub for easy clear up. Disconcerting spectacle.

Another son found lost library book! (Fine more than replacement from Amazon, but libraries are special places.)

Watching Yulia Lipnitskaya skating. She's 15.... The pleasure is in the beautiful lines, and the lovely smile when completed.

Observing youngest son fresh from shower clearly in his father's shirt. It's been a weekend wherethe small two are wearing big/long folks kit & it causing a lot of strong feeling. He does look *cute* though. (Which may dissuade him from doing it again.)

Big hugs to all who need them, all the best in all the weathers we have to look forward to & may everything grow as it should.

    Good evening everyone :hello:

A funny old day. Woke up determined to drive up to my parents, 60 miles away, but came over all "work stressy" and so felt we couldn't as it would be a full day away because of my mum jabbering on and on! Feel really guilty that I didn't see my parents, but as it's half term in a week's time, I'll be able to visit them then.

    My pleasures:

    1) Payout for the book I sold on Amazon! Duly gone into my savings pot.

    2) NPD

    3) Coffee at a local "nice" restaurant just after 9am (as we had got up in time to drive to my parents, remember) with newspapers and a free refill. DH insisted that we have SOME relaxing time.

    4) Discovered that one of the "nice presents" designers has got a showroom & seconds shop not too far away. Hoping that I will be able to get some lovely, reduced price, gifts from there over half term.

    5) Just about sorted for the forthcoming week!!

    Night all x

Am feeling the effects of not being allowed to take any medication at all. :-/ Despite seemingly being on fire, here are my pleasures for today!

    1) Not a bad sleep.

    2) The allotment! The same skinny cat was back today and perplexed sons by "hovering" in the middle of the 5m square they had just dug and going to the toilet in an excessive way!

I nailed some slats back on the shed and we found lots of interesting things including 4 wire thingies that cover rows of seedlings and a new pond liner. :-)

    3) Went swimming with sons and my brother. Some pompous little man obviously felt he was in charge of the car parking for some triathlon event thingy. We didn't park exactly where he wanted (we wanted to get within a sensible distance of the pool) so he came running after us, waving his arms. He tried to have a conversation with us through the passenger window but I had brother in the back telling him it was a public pool thanks to the lottery and smaller son in the front who had heard enough and kept half shutting the window. :-/

    4) Stopped at the river Teme on the way home to walk over the footbridge and look at it covering the width of 3 fields...

    5) Soft boiled egg and soldiers for lunch and (after 10 years) smaller son decided he quite liked them after all.

    6) My school friend came here for tea.
  • Thank you everyone for the warm welcome :)

For the record I tend to use "Gentleman Caller" because "Boyfriend" sounds a bit childish (we're only late 20's though O.o) and "Partner" sounds more long term XD Plus I like using some old fashioned terms now and then :D

    My 5 for the day;

    1. Lovely late breakfast/early lunch at Caffe Nero while reading a book in a comfy chair.

    2. Made progress in a project I'm doing, hopefully I'll get it finished within the deadline I set myself, certainly on track for it it's just keeping up the self discipline!

    3. Had a lovely steak baguette for dinner.

    4. Had half a Kinder Bueno, making good attempts to be self restrained with them.

    5. Got clean pyjamas on, nothing feels nicer than that :)
