5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Morning all! My 5 for yesterday:
1. Orange Wednesday at the cinema - saw "The Lovely Bones" with three friends, half price. So a cheap evening out. An interesting film, but I wouldn't say that people should rush off and see it; I didn't think it was that great.
2. Another 1,200 words on my short story. Should finish it in first draft later today. Not sure about letting anyone read it - that's scary stuff  for us writers! I do publish my stories on 2 sites on the Internet, but it's very different letting complete strangers read your work, to letting people who know you read it - and I feel like I know you lot!
3. A good day at work, got plenty done, which makes the day go faster. I don't enjoy my job but hey, in seven months' time I'll be flying to Bangkok and it won't matter any more!:D and triple
4. Yummy homemade chilli and rice for tea.
5. Chatting with my work colleague and having a good old moan - helps both of us feel a little bit better about work. Neither of us will be there for much longer anyway.
Have a good day, everyone!Life is not a dress rehearsal.0 -
Morning all  - yesterday stayed so dull all day, hope today manages a little better - some sunshine is needed even if the temps don't rise.
CCP - Hope you manage to get your shower temp sorted out soon - not nice to have that happen all the time. From one addict to another, there's always room for another pair of earrings :j.
Blimus - How lovely that you've unexpectedly discovered 'new' places on your travels because of the road problems - silver linings etc. wtg on the r-u-b-b-e-r chicken :T.
Caterina - oh dear, sorry to hear you had the 'spendies' on you - happens to us all at some point - big deep breath, close that purse and start again. At least you can put the cost of the cleaner's wages towards the cost of your 'splurge' :j.
house elf - sorry to hear that your daughter has had such 'bad luck' with laptops recently. Is it really worth paying out £500+ for a repair ? I thought you could buy them cheaper than that these days. I saw that programme on Skippy about 10days ago - it was interesting - I had a thing for Tony Bonner (helicopter pilot) back then. Wd on getting your tree to plant - hope it grows well for you.
Reverbe - ((((HUGS)))) to you. Relationships aren't all they're cracked up to be - unless you manage to get the Right Person first time round. Speaking from experience, I can tell you that not all of us manage that these days - some of don't even manage it 2nd time around either.
GirlySquare - If you mum decides on Sheltered Housing, check out a few of them as they can really vary as to what they can offer AND what kind of set-up they are. Some are large buildings with individual flats within the one place. Others, like mine, are individual properties - sometimes with communal facilities and sometimes without. wd on the bargain hair straighteners - think I'll check out my local Lloyds Pharmacy as my dgd1 would love some for her birthday pressie in July.
nuttybabe - wd on setting up your blog - don't forget to give us the link when it's ready for viewing :T.
Kittikins - wtg on reaching your spending money targets :j and wd to you and dd for 'getting stuck in' at the School Book Fair - parent volunteers are desperately needed and you're right, more of them should show willing :T.
ABerrisford - :hello: and welcome to you. wd on getting so much done in one day and how lovely of your Grandad to send you the sewing box
.
ACEY - wd you on taking the car into the garage - fingers crossed that this is the last of what it needs for the time being. wd you on your Viking Costume :j.
Ladyhawk - do you have a union rep who you can approach about the new contract? shouldn't have to settle for more hours than anybody else. wd on getting rid of you old comp desk to make space.
Tealady - wd you on getting to that freezer door BEFORE any real damage was done - phew.
wssla00 - :hello: - one of the pleasures of early spring, watching the bluetits - lucky you. Where lived before this place, we had them nesting under the eaves of the house and we could see them every morning as we had the upstairs flat
.
jexygirl - how frustrating for you - I well know that feeling . Can you upload your photos to a photobucket or flickr account and then just post the links? - may be eaiser than risking another comp crash.
sparrer - I need to find a way to print it off - somehow - as my printer desperately needs inks at the moment. I'm sure there's a way that you can buy a print-out from Ancestry BUT I wouldn't like to guess how much they charge. I know that they charge more for obtaining Birth Certificates etc than just contacting a registry office yourself. wd on your Yin Yang clock :j and have a safe journey to Jersey. Return to us relaxed and refreshed (((((HUGS))))).
Megs mum - how nice to be invited to join the local 'ladies circle' - I've now got visions of you being like Sue Johnstone's character in 'Jam and Jerusalem' (loved that prog!) - hope they turn out to be an interesting group of people to get involved with.
savingforoz - well done on almost completing the first draft stage - will you send it to a publisher when it's ready? I quite understand not wanting 'close people' to read it - I would never let family read any essays when I was at school. Always felt way to 'personal' to share with anybody except to the English teacher.
Mine for yesterday:
1. Very productive day in work and problems identified and sorted easily.
2. An afternoon of long-overdue paperwork sorted.
3. DD asking me to be present on Friday when she has a home-visit from her Counsellor - luckily I'd already taken the day off work as it's her birthday.
4. A rare treat of bacon, egg, mushrooms and potato cakes for evening meal last night.
5. Chatting on the phone with dsis for a while.
Need to get off to start work now - back in again later to check what everybody is up to - love Ollie xxx0 -
OK, I'm far too nosy for my own good - Megs mum - what's Red Dragon Pie, please?
Reverbe - I'm so sorry you had such a lousy day yesterday. I hope today's much better.
nuttybabe - I'm really looking forward to seeing your sock monkeys on your website.
ABerrisford - hello! Welcome to the thread!
sparrer - have a lovely time in Jersey (or, if you don't see this until after you get back, I hope you had a lovely time!)
house elf - I've never heard of the Great British Elm experiment. I love trees of all kinds so I'd be intrigued to know more about it, please.
Ollie - I knew you'd understand about the earrings!
Hmm. I'm trying not to get into the habit of answering everyone individually but everyone's always got something interesting I want to know more about. Hopefully it will all balance out over time!Back after a very long break!0 -

I got some lovely ones in Asda last week about £3.99 (gold coloured tear-drop shape with brown/amber coloured stones within the tear-drop) - can't go wrong at that price - so lovely that I got the matching bracelet as well AND it fitted my large wrists :j - just wish that I could get neck chains to be a decent length on me as well, but they all seem to come in 16" chains. On the other hand, maybe it's a good job that I can't get them or I'd NEVER have any money at all.

Oh yes Red Dragon Pie - my kids would eat anything likened to a Dragon!Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Hiya everyone
i will be back later to post my 5 for today.
I just wanted to say thanks for the comments about my website (Sparrer - it wasnt that hard to do otherwise i wouldnt have been able to do it!!) and if anyone does want to have a quick look, if you click on my name it will bring up a list so click on 'go to nuttybabe's homepage' or something like that and it will take you straight there!! I would be very grateful for any feedback on it and how it can be improved or any advice - never done one before.
Thanks0 -
Wow, nuttybabe - they're brilliant! It's so nice to see the famous sock monkeys after reading about them, and I love them. As someone without a crafty bone in my body I am so in awe of anyone who can create things this! :T
The website looks good, too - nice and clear and easy to read, with some great pictures.Back after a very long break!0 -
Well, we have returned from Yorkshire but I'm afraid my aunt is not very happy. She has had her independance taken away from her in one fell swoop and is not coming to terms with it. We hardly got a smile from her.
Let's look for a silver lining behind the cloud:-
1. The kindness of the warden and residents at the sheltered housing complex where my aunt used to live. It's a great comfort to me as I am so far away - 120 miles.
2. The kind thoughts and wishes of people on here - thanks folks.
3. The sun shone all the way home.
4. The low cost self catering trip we had. Picnics in the car etc. I'm sure all the money spent on Co$ta Coffees consumed at motorway services would settle the National Debt.
5. Cheap tea coming up - fritatta and hm wedges.
Welcome ABerrisford - keep them coming.

Hi all
Sparrer, I hope you have a good time in Jersey! I went there when I was 5 months pregnant with the twins but did not have a lot of fun because on the first day I realised I had got chicken pox! Planning to go back there one day, free of spots and itches! Thanks for the kind words about my spend!
Ollie, thanks to your kind words too - I have rationalised it having received the kitchen scales today, they are really beautiful and I needed them anyway, so the only frivolous spend in the end was the 40's style book - the other book, We'll Eat Again, fits well with the rest of my OS life so I am now feeling better about it all.
Reverbe sorry to see that you had a bad day, hopefully tomorrow is going to be better for you.
Here are my pleasures for today:
1 - Received book and scales and they are both lovely. Scales are a needed item so I am feeling ok about them, book is beautiful so I am ok with it too! Can't always be 100% careful!
2 - Walk to Blackheath with DD to go to the PO Box.
3 - In Blackheath we decided to stop for a cup of tea and cake (we shared one cake between us, how virtuous is that!) at the Reminiscence place.
4 - Lunch of stretched leftover soup, I added some frozen veg that had been barbecued on the twins birthday last June - about time they got eaten! They made the soup taste lovely and smokey, very very tasty.
5 - Planning to make a smoked mackerel pie using swede and parsnip for topping because I have no potatoes in the house at the moment - wish me luck! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Evening all...
I feel exhilerated by such a busy day which started with me being in the London office at 7.30am. I didn't really mind though since I was taking an extra hour for the interview. I think that I performed well in the interview... however I don't think that I am what they are looking for. Which I am actually ok about. It made me realise that I have a great job and if my pay rise comes through them I would be silly to leave.
1) Busy, busy day but all really good. My presentation to one of our clients went really well... except for my phone going off half way through....
2) no having anything to eat today (not good for the ol' IBS) but came home to a childhood favourite... a Double Bubble Hair Bear sandwich... cheddar sandwiched between two slices of cucumber.... yum!!
3) Also got a £1 Asda pizza out of the freezer and topped with some yummy toppings... I haven't had pizza for ages!
4) Chatted to my mum this evening which is always nice.
5) I have been so cold all day and now I am snuggled up in my warm bed with the heating on.... brrrrr....
Have a great evening everyone and welcome to the Newbies!
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0
