Good Morning everybody  - looks like being an absolutely gorgeous day here - but still very cold - frost everywhere.
CCP - so pleased you asked about Red Dragon Pie - it's got me intrigued too. Oh yes - I definitely understand about earrings - my own personal weakness (well along with one or two others as well) but they don't have to be expensive ones - just 'interesting' or 'slightly different'
. On the lookout for a new Tragus Ring - one or two on this site. Good Luck with the work appraisal - coming up to our mid-year ones shortly
.
esmf73 - so would my dgk's
nuttybabe - wtg on your website - loving your family of sock monkeys. You've had one heck of a busy day - deserve to put your feet up for the evening. Good Luck with the production line once it gets going
.
bella - sorry to hear that you found your aunt in very poor spirits - she is obviously a lady who's been proud of being independent and self-sufficient all her life. I would hate to be in a situation where my 'personal choices' were taken away from me. I really hope she can come to terms with her situation and regain her sense of dignity and self. Well done to you and your husband for managing to keep your expenses down during your trip :T.
Caterina - lol at your soup with added veggies from last summer's- true OS/mse :j. My OH would love your smoked mackerel pie - but he don't stand a chance of me ever making it - I can't stand the sight, smell or feel of fish - unless it's skinless cod in batter from the chippy
. I buy fish for him (whoopsied of course) but he has to cook it himself when I'm out of the house for the day.
Ladyhawk - well done on your early start to the day. Sorry to hear that the job interview wasn't quite what you wanted, but at least it's cleared that up in your mind. Hope you get a decent wage increase when it finally comes through.
Kittikins - Hope you're feeling a bit better today - don't need to come down with something at this time of year. wd on your baking session with DD.
Tealady - you mentioned Farmfoods leaflets and Tescos - can we use the vouchers in Tescos - something that I didn't realise about? wd to your DD on getting herself ready for school without being [STRIKE]shouted at[/STRIKE] prompted.
Westy - welcome  - lovely signs of spring where you are - lucky you :j.
ACEY - wd on your costume designing :T - hope you get your car back soon and that all is well with it this time.
katholicos - wd on making your own dog mixer/biscuits and good luck with your yoghurt making.
jexygirl - good luck to your OH for fixing your microwave and hope all works out well over the Ice Machine. Great to get your recycling sorted :T - I know that things in the Highlands don't appear to be quite as simple as they do where I live - drives me potty when we're on holiday that I'm not able to recycle as I do at home . Love that info about the plastic bottle greenhouse though :j.
Megs mum - wtg on doing your bit for Woodland Conservation on your travels with the dogs. Hope your henhouse is of use to your neighbour.
savingforoz - wd on finishing your story and good luck with the 'polishing up' :T.
Mine for yesterday:
1. Visit from my housing officer in the morning - working alone, I don't often get the pleasure of chatting to colleagues. Finding out that he's been able to help get a CCTV camera for one of our blocks of flats to help solve a 'so-called prowler' problem.
2. Had to let one of our tenants back into his block after he managed to get himself locked-out while cleaning his windows - heaven alone knows why he didn't take his keys outdoors with him - tutut.
3. Call from another tenant having problems with his new washing machine. He had pressed the 'delayed start' button - finally put a piece of insulation tape over THAT button and told him to keep his fingers off it! What is it with older men and washing machines!!!!!
4. Managed to get on with some long-overdue paper work in the afternoon - phew!
5. Chicken drumsticks in gravy with mashed pots and steamed savoy cabbage and leeks -. (The drumsticks had been salvaged from mum's buffet a few weeks ago and frozen for future use :j - still got another 20 of them in the freezer :rotfl:.)
Just about to go out to DD's. It's her 30th birthday today and she wants me to be there when her counsellor comes this afternoon. We're all having a Chinese Banquet tonight .
speak again later if I get chance - love Ollie xxx0 -

Reverbe - great list of books you have to read, I have been looking at the 'Fay' cook book for ages and I just love 'Captain Jack'We saw him in pantomime two years running.......he is sooooooo lovely!

Good morning
Westy: I have blue tits too- first year of having a garden and I'm sooo excited!
Ok here are the ones for me today:

-Im feeling slightly better today so I plan to go out for five or ten minutes today to get some fresh air in my horrid lungs (I have a chronic lung condition)
-Wrapped up my mummys present and going to get it sent today for Mothers Day
-Rediscovered a nigella lawson recipe book I haven't read for about 6 years and found some really lovely recipes
-Made some delicious rolls last night and cos I wasn't eating properly, I had some lovely soft warm rolls, some cheese and some tomato soupIt was delicious!
Have a good day everyoneFeb GC: £200 Spent: £190.790 -
Just popped in before starting work and to say:
Jexygirl and Ollie, the smoked mackerel pie was an absolute success. I put half a swede, 1 parsnip and 1 large carrot to steam, meanwhile I skinned and flaked 3 mackerel fillets. I put 2 cups of unsweetened soya milk to boil and added a lot of frozen peas, 2 tsps cornflour and a good grating of nutmeg. No need for salt or fat as the mackerel contains both in abundance. When peas were cooked and the milk thickened a bit, I put the flaked mackerel in and gave it a good stir, then transferred the mix to a baking tin. I got the veg out of the steamer and mashed them into the pan where the peas and sauce had been (it helps with cleaning) and then spread them over the mackerel pie mix, it covered it just right! Veg water saved for future soup.
Meanwhile, while cooking the stuff on the top I also started baking some oatmeal cookies with marmalade and ginger - then when the pie went in the oven I had the two things cooking so I did not feel I was wasting oven energy. While all was in the oven I made a small tomato, cabbage and spring onion salad.
Dinner was a real success with DH and DS - good to use up fish when DD is at her BF as she hates fish, even the smell.
See you all later when I have done some work! xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Damn, meant to get this in in the morning but its just turned afternoon....
Therefore...
Afternoon all!
Jexxy girl and saving for oz - completely agree, book is brilliant but film such a disappointment from peter jackson. I have high hopes for Alice in Wonderland though!

houseelf and Reverbe - Captian Jack! Mmmmmmmm
Thankyou to all who welcomed me to the thread.
My five for yesterday

2. Recieving all the messages of welcome from you all on this thread
3. Preparing and eating a bacon bit salad i made in the morning
4. being indoors until i went out to get my lunch and being hit full in the face by lovely lovely sunshine! Going to dig out summer clothes!
5. Having the head approve my plans to turn a courtyard in our built up school with no outdoor space into a herb and vegetable growing place! All part of a cross curricular project of course! :T
Hopefully i will be able to post here over the weekend. stay tuned.0 -
Red Dragon Pie Info Post: It contains no dragons(red or otherwise)!! But is one of our all time fav. veggie recipes from Sarah Browns cookbook. Its like a Shpeherds pie but the base is adjuki beans, tomatoes and tom puree (all red - get it?) rice, onion, carrot, splash of soya sauce, dash of worcestershire sauce, some veg stock and a few herbs of your choice all topped with buttery mashed potatoes. Mmmmmmm. Very yummy, very veggie, and pretty cheap too (especailly if you use HG toms, pots, carrots, onions and herbs).
It only comes second to Lentil Croquettes in our house....
XX MMStay clutter-free

Ollie - put my feet up?? as in have a night off!!! Whats that????????
ABerrisford - thank you and she is my favourite as well! :rotfl:
Mine for today -
1 Cleared out under the stairs so have moved some of my wool supply under there
2 Deep cleaned the kitchen and cleared the clutter.
3 When I cleared under the stairs I found the 6 - 9 month santa outfit that I will be making into a santa and a bird book that my dad gave me. I have put it by the kitchen window so if I see any birds in the garden I can look them up.
4 heard from 3 friends that i have not spoken to for quite some time! One of them i have not spoken to for years.
5 Friday night means Fakeout night - pizza and film. (got to stop letting the kids choose the food!! :rotfl:)
Best get back to it, sock monkeys to make, I finished the sock dog for the little boy and he liked it then his original one turned up so he now has 2!!
Have a lovely evening all0 -
nuttybabe -love your blog but I'm not a great success at leaving comments, the whole thing froze when I tried, don't know where I went wrong.
Today's jumble pleasures, should have put humble but jumble is about right.
1. Getting the whole house cleaned, we were going to leave it as we've been away this week, but the suns shone and put us in the mood.
2. The sun. Wasn't expecting it after hearing the forecast so it was a special pleasure.
3. A load of washing line dried, looks cleaner, smells nicer and the house looks tidier than when it's dried indoors.
4. Made wholemeal date scones.
5. Managed to make three cards. Not enough, must try harder.
Bella.A man's life consisteth not in the abundance of things which he possesseth. Luke 12 v 150 -
Good evening all, from a somewhat pensive CCP. The reason for this pensivity (is that a word?) is that I'm trying to make a decision: should I continue shopping in Tesco, as their prices are cheaper, or start shopping in Waitrose where the prices are higher but the stuff is better quality, and the staff don't respond to every query with "well, there's nothing I can do about it"? Or should I just snap out of it and stop worrying about something so inconsequential?!
Anyway. jexy - medicinal hobnobs - I like it! As my sister says, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!
Megs mum - thanks for the recipe for red dragon pie - I'm glad no dragons were harmed in the making of this pie. That sounds really good, and is going straight on to my list of things I must try making.
nuttybabe - the sock zebra sounds brilliant - I look forward to seeing his/her portrait on your blog.
My five pleasures for today:
1) It's officially spring for me - I've put my SAD-treatment lightbox away for another year. :j
2) It's been a beautiful, sunny spring day.
3) The herring gull shrieking from a chimney stack at lunchtime. It's a horrible noise really but it always reminds me of childhood seaside holidays.
4) Did my grocery shopping and bought what was on my list and not an item more. That's worryingly unusual for me.
5) I'm being a bit naughty tonight and having a bought curry rather than making one. It's a supermarket one, though, so at least it's a bit cheaper than buying one from the Indian takeaway.
Have a nice evening, everyone - I must go and put said curry in the oven to warm up.Back after a very long break!0 -
1;great day at work today :-)
2.the LOVELY weather
3.son cooked dinner
4.house warm when I came home
5.bargins in the supermarket"The purpose of Life is to spread and create Happiness" :j0
