Evening all... from a very tired, very stressed and overworked Ladyhawk....

Well the day has finally come... I am officially on holiday for the next 10 days. I will not check my work email and I will not check my work mobile phone until 8am on Monday 15th March... this is a vow that I am going to have to make to myself to ensure that I get the proper break that I so desperately need. Oh but I just have to send one more email before the vow comes into force...

so 13 hours crouched over a laptop is not good for anyone and my shoulders ache and I wanted to cry at several points in the day... and I didn't get to enjoy any of the beautiful sunshine :(

So positive points... let me think hard now...

    1) I am on holiday and I got most of the important things completed before I left the office... phew.

    2) Nice big salad lunch today involving roast butternut, mushrooms and onion that I made last night and loads of crunchy salad from the salad bar at work

    3) A piece of HM carrot cake from one of the admin girls

    4) umm.... not sure what else.... I'm going skiing tomorrow?

    5) I will draw myself a hot bath once I have bought my travel insurance, started and finished my packing, arrange a pick up time in the morning with my friend, written instructions for the lady who's looking after the cats, found something for supper and had a large vodka and cranberry juice.

Have a great week everyone and look forward to catching up with everyone on my return...

    L

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

Take care, Ladyhawk, a holiday is a good way to forget about work for a while and recharge your batteries!

It sounds like you have been working very hard for a while, your posts really show it - now it is time for yourself and for some fun and relaxation. Switch off that mobile and if you get anywhere near a computer, only check the OS forum, not your work email!

    Have lots of fun xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    5 for today!

    1) My brother drove us to school this morning (car still not fixed). Bigger son went as Grandad Joe in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in his shirt and pullover and my dad's tie and flat cap. Little son went as Harry Potter with a felt tip scar on his forehead, ordinary clothes, dad's tie (again), dad's reading glasses and a besom broom my brother made at 11pm yesterday!

    2) After dropping them off, my brother had a quick job to sort out so I went too. He was putting in some mole traps and chatting about the people who owned the house being in his tennis club. He was talking about the wife being a midwife and it suddenly dawned on me that she was the 2nd midwife who got here at the last minute when my little son was born! I didn't realise she lived just up the road.

    3) Brother came back here afterwards for a cup of tea and improve his golf score on the Wii.

    4) Once he'd gone, did washing, dusted and hoovered and started tea.

    5) Lovely bright, sunny day.

    6) Made a tea we all enjoyed. I did rice with peas, prawns and egg (like special fried rice) then an apple and raspberry crumble.

    That's about it!

Next door's boy still in hospital so I've been on dog duty today and will check on them again in the morning. No wees yet but they've got everything out of the kitchen bin twice!

Megs - HM lemon curd, I need that recipe! I just realised I buy value but have dozens of fresh lemons every week! Also glad Im not the only one that insists on matching undies!
Savingforoz - when can we read the story! stop teasing already!
Ollie *curtseys :D* lovely caring post :) hope you had a lovely time with DD and that the councelling went well.
wssla - sorry to lower the tone, and i knew what you meant and its lovely :) but all I read was "I have blue tits too" and I giggled sorry!
Caterina, sounds sooooooo lovely, cant wait till mackeral is in season to try that! Thanks for posting the recipe.
Aberri - well done with the herb garden. Did you see in my last post the plastic bottle greenhouse link? great project for anyone any age, has full destructions and is aimed at schools primarily, push your luck and tell the head you can become self sufficient :D
Nutty - I cant wait to see the zebra on your blog! I might look up how to make them, they look so gorgeous! (after finishing the crochet scarf in time for lent as promised ofc) *whistles*
Bella - nothing like sun to put you in the mood *winks!*
CCP - I cant help your dilemma hun sorry :( I would if its cost effective go with small independants against supermarkets though if possible, ( tho I understand the practicalities too arent always as convenient) the relationships you build are worth their weight in gold :) treated as a customer not a "profit and loss number".
Zara - a good day all round it seems :)
Kitti - what a lovely thing for DD to do, and hope the night out was good too!
Girly - why cant my posts be as concise as yours! you are putting me to shame here! Glad you had a lovely couple of days :) *mental note to self, buy a creme egg!*
Pepsi - well done on the swap, seems like a massive task, but isnt as bad as it seems, and often saves so much. Im trying to sort one out too!
Blimus - I giggled at the antonio banderas as im sure you did! Kids have a habit of putting you to shame with no inhibitions dont they!
Westy - good on you with the bargain book and the plan for you time :) and ofc the ladybird rescue operation!
Caterina - See the book was worth it, you wouldnt have had a lovely lie in without it :D
Carolyntia - Seriously, how big is your house, is there room for more flowers!!! so when will 10 year ex become the current OH? :D just wondered... *whistles* glad the work trip was good :)
Tealady I love the jumbalaya :) we call it fridge pie :D Or as my nan used to say "catchers catch can!"
Thrifty - did you see my greenhouse linky! (Can you tell I am impressed with it lol!) lucky you with so much space for growing :) sounds wonderful. Fresh leeks, no smell like when they are first picked :)
Ladyhawk have a fab holiday, I am so jealous, I love skiing! will look forward to hearing all about your antics :)
Acey - the costumes sound ace - good old dad lol! Mad eme think about a punk party we held at the last pub, and 2 of our regulars getting inundated with requests to "borrow" there normal everyday clothes for a fancy dress! and as for the midwife, small world!

    My 5 :)
    1) reading this thread, always makes me smile as i read it, wanted to thank thriftlady for starting it, as I realised how much I look forward to reading about everyones day, and simple things like washing on the line and sunshine :) It also makes me think of the good things that happen in my day, not focus on the bad, so thank you all :)
    2) Our KP started today! After running the kitchen with 2 of us since September, it was lovely to have a 3rd!
    3) Our woodpecker is back! Heard him today for the first time this year. Sadly havent seen him yet, but its amazing what the little guys do! We had to cut down a dead cherry tree that was dangerous and the little guy had worked so hard on it we found out!
    4) The girls bums! See, I was told that I should never repeat to anyone that I said that, and yet I can confess to you lot! Dont worry, I mean my hens lol, and when we got them, I had never seen a live chicken that looked like it was ready for the oven all plucked and bald! But today suddenly all their bums look so fluffy! They have been feathering up so nicely lately, but today I was definitely admiring their bums!
    5) I have a date... with dancing on Ice friday! post done!

Have a good day all :)

    For Friday-

    1. Made some oatcakes based on a Staffordshire Oatcake recipe i found somewhere on the net. They were approved by all who ate them. (I'm a potteries gal and wanted an OS way of fulfilling my ' cheese oatcake habit' and was delighted to find a recipe).

    2. Sliced 3kg bananas and put them in the dehydrator.

    3. Crocheted a couple of squares and sewed some together.

    4. Did a load of laundry.

    5. I'm defrosting home made pizza dough, bread and biscuit mix for tomorrow which will obviously be a day of carbohydrate eating :D

Belated reply to Olliebeak - that's not Gizmo in my avatar, just a cute kitty that I came across. Gizmo is ginger and white, and behaving like an complete hooligan this morning - he is a naughty boy, but so lovely!

    My 5 for yesterday:

    1. The lovely spring weather. I see the magnificent Clifton Suspension Bridge across the Avon Gorge every day as I drive home, and yesterday it looked wonderful.

    2. New season The Mentalist on TV last night - a great episode, with Simon Baker looking pretty hot, as per usual.

    3. Taking Penny Pusscat to the vet as she has a funny eye (bit cloudy, and the pupil is dilated) and having the vet rule out serious nasties like glaucoma and cataracts. We're still not sure what the problem is but she is on antibiotic drops and hopefully it's nothing serious.

    4. Yummy spicy lentil soup with a roll (both homemade) for tea.

    5. Short day at work - we finish at 4pm on a Friday - always good.

    6. Starting the editing of my story - this is the bit that I really enjoy (well, I enjoy all of it, actually).

    Have a good day, everyone!
