5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Good afternoon, everyone!
JennyJewell - hello and welcome to the thread! It's really just what the title suggests - people just come on and post a list of five nice things that have happened during the day - usually Old Style things, but it can be anything. Someone described it the other day as like walking down the street and stopping to chat to people, which I think is a lovely description and really sums up the pleasures of this thread for me.
Caterina and jexy - thank you for your thoughts on my supermarket dilemma - I'm so grateful that you took the time to respond to what was really just another whinge about Tesco. I already get most of my fresh stuff from local shops or from the veg box company, so all I really get from the supermarket is cat food and household items. I'm increasingly leaning towards trying Waitrose for a few weeks, just to see how I get on - I prefer their ethical standards and it will stop me coming on here and complaining about how useless Tesco customer services are.
Ladyhawk - have a lovely holiday, and don't touch that work email!
savingforoz - I hope your puddy tat's OK and the antibiotic drops do the trick.
newlywed - enjoy your night at the cinema. I'd love to know if you enjoy the film, as I've heard mixed reviews so far.
My five for today:
1) Had a nice lie-in this morning (although I've paid the price by being unable to wake up all day).
2) Went up the pub to watch the football at lunchtime, and remembered to eat before I left so I didn't give in to temptation when the barmaid started walking around selling slices of freshly cooked pizza.
3) We're going to Wembley!!! :j:j:j:eek::eek::eek::j:j:j
(Sorry. Particularly to non football fans who probably haven't got the faintest idea what I'm on about!)
4) Nearly all my plants are showing signs of life - the only one that isn't looking promising is my pet acer, which was frankly on its last legs anyway.
5) Chilli cheese burger for tea tonight - naughty but so nice, and made from ready prepared ingredients so all I have to do is stick it in the oven to cook.
Have a lovely evening, everyone.Back after a very long break!0 -
Hiya Everyone
Thanks everyone for the lovely comments about my sock monkeys and things! I really do appreciate it!
Mine for today -

3 Got a bit of time this afternoon to do some crocheting, i did start knitting but my fingers wouldnt do what I told them so gave up and crocheted instead!!!
4 My friend was really pleased when I showed her the picture of the sock monkey for her daughter (1 down, 2 to go!!!)
5 I will be having a glass of my favourite wine tonight as a treat but might do some sewing first!!!

Have a good evening all.0 -
Hi All.
Having 5 mins sit down to catch up!
CCP - Great British Elm Expt http://www.conservationfoundation.co.uk/project_info.php?id=2 Linky thing.
Jexy - Pie in the Sky is on ITV 3 on Sat afternoon. Don't know if you would find that on a catch up site? OMG! I so want to have a go at building the bottle green house!:D May be if we stay here over the summer I could build one in the garden. I couldn't do something like that at school. The local kids would just set fire to it! I wanted to design a garden using old tyres, but the site manager nearly had a fit when he heard about it. He had visions of the kids piling tyres up to get on the roof, or setting fire to them. Trying to think of containers which are risk free.........and free...:(
5 for Thursday
1. James and the Giant Peach simple, but effective. DS2 v proud that he will Have his pic on school website:)
2. DD more cheery after I phoned Assistant Principle at College about lack of support from her tutor re laptop/week from hell!
3. Nice comment from a colleague who used my room. He said it was really lively and there was always something going on! Not bad for a maths room!!!:rotfl:
4. Watched 'UP' with DS2 and had a good cry at the start as usual:o
5. Chicken casserole from the slow cooker.
Back soon with Fri and Sat after cooking tea!
HE x0 -
Hiya, mine for today:
1) tea and croissant in bed
2) reading my Good Housekeeping and Glamour magazines
3) relaxing this afternoon and catching up on not having much sleep this week. Well, relaxing as much as you can when a five year old is running around
4) watching Come Dine With Me. Dave Lamb's commentary is another one of my guilty pleasures
5) Looking forward to Harry Hill taking the mickey out of Come Dine With Me again, and the 'K' Factor. TV Expert Of The Week '...well the car itself is a little German car, because it does say on the car, that it's made in Germany...'
6) Rufus Hound performing 'Lets fight for this love' on Lets Dance for Sport Relief (don't forget to turn the sound off if needs be)
nuttybabe the sock monkeys look great"We have to be kind because everyone is fighting a great, great battle" - Sir Richard Attenborough
"There is a special place in hell for women who don't help other women" - Madeleine Albright0 -
Hi all
Got to be quick as DH is in the middle of cooking and I promised I would help.
Here are my pleasures for the day:
1 - Peas and onion omelette for breakfast in bed, courtesy of DH - one of my 2 eggs per week (wartime ration but I use fresh eggs instead of powdered so I give myself one fresh and one "dried" equivalent). Amazing how much peas and onions stretched it, it more than covered one slice of toast!
2 - Shopping trip with friend. After having ranted against supermarkets in my earlier post to CCP I still went down to Mr S but managed to keep the shopping there to a minimum. Then it was my turn to buy us a drink and we sat in Starbucks and had a good natter over a cup of tea. I stretched mine with a hot cup of water so I had two for the price of one, as always.
3 - Came back to find the book We'll Eat Again has arrived, so tonight I can have a good recipe read and scare DH with the threat of more wartime recipes!
4 - In the post also a DVD from a free trial (Lidl), Sex and the City, I saw it in the cinema but really want to see it again, tonight is going to be my movie night!
5 - Free book with the Daily Telegraph - the lifestyle articles are very good but its political stance grates on me. So I only buy it occasionally on a Saturday when it has special offers.
6 - Trip to Waitrose to collect said free book (had to cut coupon from the Telegraph and bring it to the nearest Waitrose) so we went to the Canary Wharf one, nice little trip together.
7 - While in Waitrose I discovered that there were a few Poilane sliced loaves (Poilane is a wonderfully tasty real bread from France, that normally costs a fortune) with today's expiry date. As the other breads had already been stickered I went and asked if they could sticker this one too, and got two enormous loaves for £2 each (they were £5.49 before reduction). More than 2Kh Poilane, I am delighted, I love the stuff but it is so expensive that I only buy it when reduced. Have already unpacked and frozen 3/4 of it in separate bags so i shall ration it over the next couple of weeks.
8 - Forgot to say this at the beginning: the weather! It is so lovely when it is sunny!
9 - Going to cook together with DH who has already started. Green lentil stew wtih steamed potatoes and kale.
Edited to add no 10 - Before my trip to Waitrose I went with my morsbagging friend to give morsbags to local shops. We gave 15 to the local greengrocer and 6 to the health food shop. We will write a small article for the local paper and mention the local shops so they get some publicity, too. (Two eco-birds with one eco-stone!)
Good night everybody xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Evening all
It been a lovely day in sunny Norfolk. Hi JennyJewell come and join in....they're a lovely bunch on here. Jexygirl....the house isn't big but the flowers are....they smell lovely....I can't see us getting back together....we're still living on opposite sides of the country from each other......we'll stay friends and probably visit each other though.
1) More lovely sunny weather
2) Getting the garden tidied up and the decking clean
3) Ironing done and house very clean
4) People who came to view the house were very nice and seemed very interested. They were here for half an hour so I see that as a good sign. Please some one tell me that it was a good sign
5) Loafing on the sofa after the viewing was over
6) NCIS and CSI night on TV......my favourites
7) Very nice chilled glass of wine
Hope you all had a great day. Take care
C xAs my dad always used to say 'Just because you've got the money doesn't mean to say you have to spend it all at once'0 -
1. Baking; cookies, pizza, small white loaf.
2. Spending some quality time with my family.
3. Managing my 4th NSD for March.
4. Snacking on my dehydrated banana chips and avoiding the temptation of chocolate! A first for me....though now that i think of it, banana chips dipped in melted chocolate would have been yummy!
5. 2 x loads of laundry washed and put on clothes airer and radiators.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200
NSD Challenge: October 0/140 -

as i read about snacking on dehydrated banana chips i though 'mmmmmm dipped in chocolate' - then you said it!! great minds.... :rotfl:0 -
I can see avatars now, thanks everyone! Tried to put a picture up of my 2 cats but I think it was too big.
5 for today.
1) Bit of a lie in.
2) Easy morning, made some breakfast and let next door's dogs out and just read the paper.
3) House is reasonably tidy.
4) Went to mum and dad's for tea. (Still got no car).
5) While we were there, mum got out the old ice hockey game we bought decades ago. Its a little bit like table football in that your players slide backwards and forwards and turn on rods. Both sons enjoyed it (and my brother did) although there was a lot of flicking the puck right off the game!

1. Had a lovely night out yesterday, chatting away and completely lost of track of time, eventually got home about 1am, thank goodness my babysitter was happy to sleep over
2. The lovely library aunties let me borrow a children's DVD I'd reserved and I'll pay on Monday as I didn't have enough money on me, I'm "good" for it as am in there nearly every day.
3. Whilst dealing with the rental above, I gave DD the few pennies I had in my purse so she could buy a cup of milk from the old ladies selling drinks and home made cakes as she was overtired and very thirsty. Apparently she didn't have enough, so they gave her a big mug of milk for 20p and when I joined her, they told me they thought she was beautiful and had such wonderful manners.
4. Realised that I forgot one from yesterday (again) - I bought the "Father Christmas" dress for DD in the village charity shop, a gorgeous pink floaty dress that she will love to receive beside her stocking. I know it's only March but I already have a few presents tucked away for her and couldn't resist a gorgeous dress for only £3! I also bought a cute dress pattern for her for 20p, the village charity shop is great
5. We popped into our local Mr W and bought scrummy fresh fruit and veg and some white/wholemeal bread for DD as a special treat as it's nearly white....thankfully she does happily eat wholemeal but she thinks white bread is the height of sophistication, lol. I got myself some awesome basil flavoured tofu to have with my salad, I'm amazed at my self-control as I have over half the pack left!
6. DD and I had an afternoon nap, as I was a bit 'delicate' and she is very overtired again.
7. The sunshine - shame we didn't get out in it as much as we could have done, but we needed our rest more.....0
