    Good evening everyone :hello:

Hurrah! It's the end of the week (in case you weren't aware!) :j :j

I walked down into town after work to pick up something from the Post Office and went to C0sta for a coffee (it was raining :) ). Whilst in there, I saw someone reading my book club book and walked up to her - turned out that she was going to book club too, so we had a good old chat. Also turned out that she was a teacher! Really glad I plucked up the courage to talk to her. I'm trying to get to know more people in the area and the only way to do this is to talk, I appreciate! However, random chatting to various people might not be the way forward ALL the time. :o

So, my pleasures for today have been:

    1) Talking to random people. It's given me a bit of a spring to my step!

    2) Failed to take sausages out of the freezer for this evening, but when I was in town I popped into Mr T's and picked up a yellow sticker pizza. Nice and easy!

    3) My T3sco vouchers have arrived, bought via my teaching union (and getting a 3% discount). Duly used and got my point for using my own bag!

    4) The ironing pile seems to have been brought downstairs by DH. It's now sitting next to me. Is this a (very) unsubtle hint? I haven't taken it yet! ;)

    5) Seeing my brother in the Farmers' Weekly magazine! Ok, so the subject matter isn't a pleasure if you have the time to read it - and you can't actually tell that he hasn't ironed a thing for the last 10 years (at least!).

Just popping on to say good morning , our cool change has arrived , it's 22oC at the moment , it was 44o yesterday so quite a drop.

The bird are singing and it's a wonderful noise, it's been so quiet the past few days as it's been too hot for them too.

The house feels warm inside rather than hot which is so nice. Everything was hot, the mattresses , pillows, sofas, work tops in kitchen, the washing machine, the sink etc so it is good to feel normal again and hopefully a return to a better mood :) we've all been miserable past few days , kids and I lurching from one area to another to try and find some cool. Drinking lots of water and ice cubes couldn't freeze quick enough!

Might pop to ikea today , OH works nearby and has to go into work today so might just hitch a lift and have a mooch around there.take my family card for a free refreshment!

sparrer glad your dog will be okay.
chicken what colour of egloo did you get?

Right, enough procrastination....I'm off to start this blessedly cool day!

    1. It's Friday!

    2. I don't have a 'research question' in my head yet, but I do have lots of exciting reading to do to hopefully start me thinking about my project.

    3. Happy songs on the radio made my commute easier.

    4. The lovely librarian who helped me do some (fruitless) searching, but lots of tips on how to do the searches more effectively for my new idea.

    5. Fresh bedding, I love my bed!

mcculloch I've been using lots of turmeric since reading its arthritis easing properties (no earth-shattering effect yet), and now cinnamon as that seems to be a cure-all! And doesn't stain so much. Thanks for the heads up re @ldi Specially Selected curry sauce, will get some when I shop on Sunday
kittikins pleased your headache has gone, horrid things
mhags I smiled reading about everything in your house being so hot, was thinking it would be great for proving bread!
CCP everything x'ed that your sister does get home next week, and I hope your holey home gets fixed soon. Don't blame you for thinking of moving though
Broomstick pleased my rant jogged your memory and you could get your headlight fixed. Congrats on the lb loss :D
Tealady not sad at all for doing your Christmas shopping now, it'll save you a lot of £'s and rushing around nearer the time. Very sensible
Chicken I know that no-one here drives recklessly, none of you would be on a money saving forum if you didn't value your cars - mind you the OGV could do my little Korean job a lot of damage with hardly a scratch to yours ;)
DD I love real Chinese banquets, even if I never get past course 3! Congrats on the £25 find, you can afford to get the trousers cleaned now or you could save it for something more exciting
LFS what a sensible day, reading is never a waste of time
VJsmum I love yellow flowers, the rose must have been a lovely sight in January
PK not much fun being woken like that, but I do wish I didn't sleep through storms as I love watching them. I think that one would have woken me up though!
VickyA pleased you met someone from the book club and I agree, talking is the only way to meet people. Some might give you a strange look but I just think that they're the strange ones ;)

    1. Doglet is okay :D
    2. Called in to see DD after the vet, had a cuppa with her. I like going to her pub, when I walk in the customers will say 'here's Mum, put the kettle on' cos they know I don't drink. Muttley got very spoiled while we were there
    3. Yellow thing until about 4pm, then some rain just to let us know it's still lingering
    4. The tub of yellow crocuses in full bloom outside my front door is like a bowl of sunshine
    5. Just taken a loaf out of the bm. Do I wait til it's cooled a little so I can be piggy and have a slice, still warm with butter, or do I do the sensible thing and wait until morning, thereby not suffering from indigestion in the middle of the night? Warm bread, butter, apricot jam (and rennies before bed) - no contest :o:D

    Sweet dreams :)

Still quite ill. I was tempted to make another dr's appointment today because (on and off) I am in so much pain I'm wondering if there isn't something worse wrong with me. I don't actually feel ill as such, just constant burning pains and gripes and a million vicious burps!

    Anyway, pleasures for today:

    1) Smaller son is back to normal, hoorah!

    2) Both sons had nice days at school.

    3) I started a jewellery making course at our local library. (Another lady had a chat with me as to how similar it was to the Archer's plot!) We each made a necklace today and I'm pleased with mine. :-)

    4) Cleaned the bathroom properly so it is fit for inspection by the builder who is coming tomorrow to give me a quote to replace it. (Allegedly...)

    5) Yesterday's casserole for my lunch.

    6) Went swimming with sons and my brother.

    7) Tea at mum and dad's then we played a game a bit like Pictionary then had a beetle drive.

    8) Bed soon and I'll listen to the Now Show. Feet at the head of bed are now up on large English and German dictionaries in the hope I'll get a decent night's sleep.

Oooooh! I start work tomorrow! Yikes! Had a phone call about lunch time today from someone I went to see ( after a recommendation from a friend) about a job the day before I left other place. They didn't have enough hours for me then but now 2 people are leaving and do I want a job?
So in tomorrow for 4.5 hours and will let you know how it goes. I will need to set the alarm clock! Here's hoping it's a happy place!

So Saturday scone and paper mooching done.
Chats with mum and best friend from home done.
Groceries done and loads of rtc things bought including some beautiful pink lisianthus flowers half price.
Both girls had friends over which was nice.
House is now a pleasant temperature.
Veggies watered...the hoped for rain never came. Our courgette plant just keeps on giving and the tomatoes....there are hundreds of them but not turning red. I cut down the rhubarb as it was struggling in the heat and I thought better in my freezer than frazzled in the veg patch. It's starting to shoot again already. Sweetcorn standing very tall.

    Have a lovely day :)
  • I usually write these in a book that lives alongside my photo albums, but I always pop in here to read along too and have decided to join in. I tend to do 5 each day but as many as come along on days off with my son (the weekends and school holidays) to really help us count our blessings.

    Today -
    1) Waking up a little late - hubby had gone to work and my gorgeous little man was playing with cars and letting me doze. I only woke up when the 'race' got a little noisy! ;)

    2) Extra time to shower and enjoy some rose body lotion that my sister gave me for my birthday...probably helping my ever-growing bump stretch out too!

    3) Time to sit and enjoy our breakfast, some tv time and my morning cuppa instead of eating and rushing to do packed lunches.

    4) Playing 'shops' with my son.

    5) Being still enough to feel my bump wriggling and kicking.

    6) Actualy fancying a little 'nesting' time later (I wont have to force myself to do the cleaning!) ;)

    x Happy Saturday! x
  • Jenny sends a :heartpuls :heartpuls :heartpuls :heartpuls :heartpuls :heartpuls to SPARRA. Checks for aftershocks!

PM to MHAGS Cool! But please, do not let them Aussies get too excited. and No, no, no, no, no, no. I have a saying, it is bring them home and give them ... Oh, good luck in the Job

And to the crafts ones, gold dust there
Coasters, cuppa and books from another
Hens running wild and Putah back working
    Fogs, FOG HORNS no more!
Sales shopiing and scales for you. (They lie you know)

    Now where was I

5 Snorkers, Mushrooms, toast, toms, poached egg. Washed down with tea. Raffles cannot eat sausage, nor can any cat I know.

4 Ms BoPsie won at Scrabble last night, on the last play. So you can sees how kind BoP really is. Though, I did have to remove one word for a miss spelling and check her last words.

3 Raffles was caught lick pawing this morning. He went to get up on the side and missed. I was watching, so it was a quick lick of the paws to settle the youngster.

2 days we is outs and abouts.

1 Put you shoes on, and kick up some dirt!

mhagster - best of luck with the new job!

Frith - hope you feel better soon but, if you don't definitely go back to the doctor - there's no point being miserable if it's something that can be fixed.

    1) A lousy night's sleep, but as it's Saturday I could have a bit of a lie-in and get a little more rest.

    2) Reading a very interesting website on ways to stop worrying - I've somehow fallen into the habit of worrying constantly, and I hope some of the tips will help me to stop.

    3) Popped up to the shop to get something essential I forgot yesterday (loo roll :o), and picked up a RTC pack of stewing steak so I can have the beef casserole I've been fancying all week for dinner tomorrow.

    4) Isis has been hiding behind the sofa for most of the last 48 hours, but finally summoned up the courage to come out for some fuss a little while ago. :)

    5) And then the roofer knocked on my door and scared her away again, but, after some scrambling around on the roof in the wind and rain, he thinks he's spotted the problem: it's not the roof (which, understandably, he had been concentrating on) but a large crack in the wall above it, where the rain's getting in and running down and through my ceiling. He's coming back tomorrow as long as it's not raining to fill in the crack, so I've hopefully seen my last indoor rain storm. :j
Back after a very long break!

Welcome dingdong :hello: (typing that made me smile)

CCP, here's hoping that mend will do the trick.

mhagster, good luck with the new job.

Frith, like CCP says, don't let it drag on if you are still poorly. See your GP again.

Sparrer, you missed out that the butter was also yellow! :rotfl:

    Five pleasures for Saturday:

    1. Finished 'Few Eggs and No Oranges', nearly 600 pages of it. It is the most extraordinary everyday account of London in WW2 and, in many ways, it's like the '5 Pleasures' thread with all the positives of our lives, but with the blitz and war and standards of the time superimposed on it. I will definitely read it again. Heaps of food for thought. :)

    2. I knew I had to get out and walk today because it's unlikely I'll be able to reach my new target (of 4500 steps a day) tomorrow so forced myself out of the house and went and bought extra bits of food for our packed lunches in town and wandered round the shops but avoided buying anything other than food. Walking is getting so much easier. I'm terribly pleased with myself. :D

    3. Chatted on the phone with a friend.

    4. Caught some of Jeremy Irons reading T S Eliot's 'Four Quartets' on R4. Loved the bits I heard, am going to listen to the whole thing later while filing! :)

    5. Have just had my pudding (cherry yoghurt) while typing this and before eating my main course. :D

    Sweet dreams
