    Good evening all,

Kittikins hope your headache goes soon!

Here are my pleasures for today:

1 - After deciding to start giving myself daily goals in the morning and posting them in a friends' online group, I think I am managing to keep myself a bit more motivated and doing more things than I would otherwise do.

2 - Also maintaining a sensible eating plan, not a diet (had battered fish today for lunch, but with salad instead of chips, for example).

3 - The fish and no-chips outing was with an old (in age, she is 81) friend today and she was absolutely delighted with the treat. We planned to do it again but not too soon because we agree that fried fish is not always the healthiest of choices, but a nice occasional treat.

4 - All DH's shirts are ironed, now only the trousers to go and the ironing mountain will be done!

5 - DS is being really helpful and affectionate AND has seriously started applying for jobs, he finds the jobs and I write the nice bits about him on the applications!

    Good night all x
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

A night of trying to encourage smaller son to do his homework... there were 4 pages of different tasks and all 4 got screwed up several times, put under his feet and slid along the floor then forced through the grid of the fireguard. 3 pages have "stupid homework" scrawled over them and the 4th page of impossible maths problems was somehow filled in perfectly mid-scrumple.

Apart from that little lot, here are my pleasures for today:

    1) Not a bad sleep.

    2) Sons happy at school. Smaller son was allowed to take the ipod in to show the other boy in his base pictures of his trainset.

    3) Made a huge amount of soup and a casserole. 2 servings of casserole left and soup in the fridge.

    4) Builder phoned! He'll be coming round on Saturday.

    5) Watched Big Bang Theory.

    1) I filled almost a quarter of my petrol tank for £6 today (go Morribobs price cutting!)

    2) Resisted stopping for a chippy supper on the way home and instead made myself a HM version of sausage, curry sauce and chips (roasted sweet potato and carrots) for less than £1.50 (reckon I saved at least £4 on a chippy supper #Aberdeen prices!)

    3) discovered, once again, how much I <3 Home Bargains! (39p for a tissue cube, 29p for chip shop curry sauce, big bag of Danish biscuits for 89p)

    4) Phoned my Gran :D (she is amazing for 82)

    5) Enjoyed watching the fog roll in across the North Sea and melt away in the sun from my office on the 5th floor :D

    1. had a reasonable day with DM and DB, a wet drive but most were driving sensibly.
Rant - why, oh why do women have to follow so close on motorways in the pouring rain? Sorry ladies I'm sure you don't but some are so close I can't see their headlights . That's when they see my brake lights. In defence of women -I do wish men would buy cars with indicators
    2. Lovely pub lunch of creamy yellow free-range eggs and big chunky chips cooked in an Actifry. First time I've ever experienced one and I'm impressed!
    3. Sorted out DM's contents insurance, using a cashback site, of course

That's about it, need to take the dog to the vet as I've found a lump on his ribs. Not having a good time with my pets over the last 8 months

Won't be going to Yorkshire next week as sadly my friend's brother had a heart attack and died yesterday, They lost both their parents in the last couple of years and now her 48 y/o brother who was engaged to be married this Spring. He lived in Dubai so she's had to fly out today to arrange for him to be flown back to Australia where they come from. So sad.

Wishing the poorlies well and everyone a peaceful night. Sweet dreams:)

Oh Sparrer, how very, very cruel and sad for your friend. X fingers that the lump is something benign on the dog, too.
Some of the people who review items on Amazon Vine have been offered Actifrys. (Actifries?). I haven't owned a deep fat fryer - or deep fried anything - for many years now. I am not sure if I would use one, I've got so used to doing without.

    1. Dr C. doing several little jobs for me around the place on his day off. He also moaned like fury about turmeric stains on the worktops. He should have seen what I cleaned off; I think I'll mix my paste in the sink next time.

    2. Curry-related, I tried the Specially Selected Balti sauce from A!di and it was a little jar of pure heaven. We are fans of the Dopiaza, and have been for some time, but this was ooh, nice. I need to start making my own curry spices from scratch. I used to make the sauces from scratch but have never cracked the spice element. I used curry powder.

    3. Am@zon Vine are sending me a Breville Soup Maker to review. Nearly £80, wow, I am so pleased. I have broth mix and red lentils waiting!

    4. I didn't get the beauty set from Am@zon Vine, which would have given me 1.75 litres of shower gel to use up. I saw the words 'Beauty Set' and clicked...then realised it was body wash, but luckily it had all been nabbed whilst I was sorting out the soup maker.

    5. Another NSD. All the Christmas leftover nibbles have saved me a lot of money as many were re-purposed (cheese and salami made it in to risottos for example.) I will have to shop tomorrow but won't need to spend the amount I normally do - X fingers.

    Sparrer-
my parents had an actifry, which was lovely - but then, when it went to actifry heaven, they were given a Phillips version, which is even better! With an actifry, you use a small measure of oil, with the P one, you don't use any oil at all - and chips are.....awesome! You can also do lots of 'roast' veggies and other things (not sure, as I don't eat meat) in it.

Hooray, I've woken up without a headache! I think it's tension-related, I feel quite relaxed at the mo, hopefully that will last all day. I don't like taking painkillers for headaches, different when it's for my stupid leg or back, where they have known medical problems.

Hurrah, the end of the longest , hottest spell in Melbourne ( it's official) is in sight, a few more hours then we should be much cooler.
I woke up this morning with a spring to my step as I knew this was the last day of heat wave.

Popped into next town to pick up Hoover belt that had been ordered....managed to get out of shop without a new Hoover or a steam mop.....er....cos I don't want one....not for want of hard selling salesmen!

Popped into lovely cool supermarket and bought lovely rolls. Bought some lovely cheese from a deli. Had a roll and cheese when I got in.

Lots of washing/ ironing done today as believe it or not rain is on the way!!
Stood in front of the aircon unit to iron!

Made a lasagne, potato wedges and coleslaw for dinner....thought the oven being on wouldn't make much difference to general heat but by the time we eat it should be a bit cooler.

My husband is on his way home...he's been in a much cooler Sydney for work.

Hoovering! A pleasure as it was badly needed!

Had to water the garden this afternoon, everything had wilted badly but I got a courgette for the lasagne whilst I was baking!

Last night just after I'd posted we had a massive thunder/ lightning storm for about an hour, the kids were out in the rain enjoying being wet! Not a lot of rain but enough for them to smile and laugh and to save me watering the veggies last night. We had a few powers dips but luckily no power cuts.

CCP any word about your sister? Hope she's doing okay.
sparrer hopefully just a lumpy bumpy thing for your dog and nothing more serious. Thinking of your friend too.
frith what are you getting done?

Do have a lovely day...hurrah it's Friday the day the cool change came !

sparrer - I'm so sorry to hear about your friend - what a horribly tragic time for her. :( Fingers crossed that doglet's OK.

I had a text from her late last night to say that she has heard on the hospital grapevine that she may be released early next week. We'll just all have to hope desperately that her condition doesn't deteriorate again without direct medical supervision.

My first task for today is to call my LL and let him know that the 'repair' to the roof has just made things worse - I now don't have enough bowls to catch all the drips. I might spend my lunch break looking a new flat to rent!
Back after a very long break!

sparrer - same from me as well: your poor friend, that's so sad, and fingers and toes crossed for your dog. Thank you for your rant about drivers - I had a partial failure of one of my car's headlights yesterday evening and rereading your post reminded me that I had to book the car into the garage to get it sorted. :D Going in after lunch.

CCP, I really hope that things get stabilised for your sister now. It's been such a long haul for her.

Kk, was that assessment (the maths 'good subject and pedagogical knowledge one) the one you had been struggling with over the holidays and that you talked about with me?! :p;)

I didn't post last night because I felt ghastly when I got home. I realise now it was probably a food reaction because, apart from feeling horrible and sick, I started to feel really itchy as well. :(

Anyway, five pleasures since yesterday morning:

    1. Did so much shredding that the shredder had not one, not two, but three hissy fits where it went on strike and had to rest for half an hour before it would work again. :D Am about to have another session like that (don't tell the shredder)!

    2. Weighed myself this morning and astonishingly have lost another lb. Not quite sure how that has happened since I've been anything but careful this week. Am thinking it might be a little more exercise.

    3. Completely sorted out all of our essential 'save this file in an emergency' documents, including relocating all our passports, discovering to my surprise that our EHIC cards are up to date, finding out when CRBs, sports quals etc are all due for renewal... etc. I only have to find one missing certificate for DS2, and DS1's sports travel insurance, and I think that that job will be done. :D

    4. Lovely chat with a friend yesterday evening.

    5. Snuggled up in bed with a hottie and my book last night and read for ages.

    Have fun today

    Morning

Sparrer - So sorry to hear about your friend such a tragic loss for her.

CCP - Hope your DSis is on the mend and good luck with getting things sorted with your landlord

Broomstick - Well done on your continued weightloss and excercise

MHagster - Hope you are having your longed for cooler weather today

McCulloch - Well done on your assessment very well deserved I'm sure

Kittikins - Well done on the Maths assessment

PK - Boo to the horrible person at work, why do people have to be so unpleasant. Good luck with the job hunt

Pleasures for the last couple of days,
    1. Had Wednesday off work so could go sales shopping. Presents now bought for most of the birthdays through the year and a lot of the christmas presents for the end of the year. Sad I know but it is now mainly done and for a fraction of the price. Some really good bargains got for some really lovely presents including some very cut price Cath Kitson goodies.
    2. Had a free waitrose green tea after first assault on shops, treat myself to some yummy soup in Carluccios but only had water to drink so reasonably price and then in the afternoon had a free tea and cake in John Lewis. I love that tips on this site mean I can have treats like this for free :money:
    3. Made chicken pie for dinner and kept to the law with YUM proudly written on pie. It was yum as well, had it with some of the prepared potatoes and roast veg from the freezer. Used the left over pastry cut into squares and topped with a blob of BBQ sauce, some cheese and a bit of bacon and baked. DD loves these so was happy to have in her lunch.
    4. Booked some tickets to see a Agatha Christie play at the theatre on Saturday with the family very reasonably priced so looking forward to that
    5. Another quote for our roof to be fixed has come in at half the price and we know the contractor so happy that the work will be done well plus his wife wants a socket putting in her house so OH is doing a bit of skills exchange to get the best price for us.
    6. Meet friend yesterday for Coffee in Waitrose and she is enjoying her new job. Whilst I miss her company in the office am loving having my friend H back off maternity leave.

Hugs to all who need them and hope everyone is staying dry
