Hi all, not sure I really coped that well - when we woke up the second morning with another power cut I cried!! Plus trying to cook two roast chickens in mum's small kitchen, with a gas oven and two cats wanting the chicken and a stray trying to get in through the window.... not an experience to repeat!! But you should have seen OH with a blowtorch (for doing plumbing pipes) trying to heat a pan of water I was holding so we could have a cuppa!!! Oh and trying to blow torch teacakes doesn't work very well they tasted really funny
For the record about 12 tealights under a fairly large pan of water took about 4 hours to boil.
Anyway, for today:
1. Sunshine
2. A lay in
3. Popping over to mum to get the rest of my freezer stuff
4. Tuna in a value part bake baguette for lunch with a spread of pesto
5. My xmas cacti deciding to flower for a second time this winter.
6. My rose in the garden trying to grow again - loads of little shoots
7. OH getting some more sponsors for his 6 mile sport relief run.
8. OH going for a run this morning and asking me to map it out on mapmyrun and it being over 6 miles so he's feeling happier about the sport relief run (he usually only runs 3 miles).
9. When picking up the freezer stuff, finding the damson pie slices I'd stashed in mum's freezer months ago coz I had no room
10. Eating damson pieworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Hi all
Ollie the smileys in the post about our open-air keep fit made me laugh!
Savingforoz, thanks for mentioning homemade hummus. I am going to make a batch tonight, I keep meaning to do so and always forget. Will do it while I remember!
Here are mine for the day:
1 - Cup of tea in bed courtesy of DH
2 - Eggy bread for breakfast (inspired DD and DS to make their own too - I could not be bothered to cook for them this morning as I was in a hurry to go out). Had mine with last splash of ketchup, they had brown sauce with theirs *yuck*
3 - Got the right zip for the skirt I am making, found it for 40p at the market stall
4 - At the class, I put the zip on the skirt - very proud, this is the first zip I ever put on any garment!
5 - Lunch, BIG treat - fish and chips in a pub, where I know they have real homemade chips. Expensive so only a very rare treat, but it was delicious.
6 - On my way back I stopped at the Coop and there was so much reduced stuff, I did a very large shopping and it cost me just over £6!
7 - Looking forward to making homemade hummus!
8 - Looking forward to making a veg sausage and root veg stew with the stickered coop veg!
9 - Looking forward to an early night so I can read the book that arrived today "The Wartime Ration Diet" and plan for future meals (got to adjust them to an almost-vegan diet with only a tiny bit of fish and 2 eggs per week - no dairy, no meat!).
10 - Spoke on the phone with my cousin who had her breast operation, she is back home, they have already done the reconstruction and she feels better, and stays positive. Thanks God.
Have a great night everybody xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -

3 Ds1 has gone up another level with his reading books and is now reading from the years above reading books! And he just read it to me with only a little help on a few words!!

bellaquidsin congratulations to your dgs for his grammar school pass
Ollie step-dad was ranting about mum's consultant sending the letter telling him what he had to do for mum's welfare and health, including turning on the central heating . Checking mum's benefits is on my list, though normally she is pretty good at keeping on top of that. I haven't called today, will text family and call hospital tomorrow.
My five for today:
1) tea and porridge in bed courtesy of dp
2) swift cuddle from dd before rushing off to work
3) cheap lunch at Costco, well a cup of tea
4) cheese sandwich on hm bread courtesy dp
5) slow-cooked rice pudding when I got home, once again courtesy dp. My mum, gran and auntie all think he's wonderful, and I do threaten to have 'Girly's dp fan club' t-shirts printed for them :rotfl:
dp says Asda has Wispa Golds for 20p each"We have to be kind because everyone is fighting a great, great battle" - Sir Richard Attenborough
"There is a special place in hell for women who don't help other women" - Madeleine Albright0 -
My five for today:
1. A lovely, sunny spring day here in Bristol. I went to visit one of my favourite clients, the one who has an office in the middle of a forest, and the drive there is just so pretty. And it was good to get out of work for a while.
2. Another no spend day, meaning more money in the trip coffers.
3. Another 2,200 words on my short story. It should be finished in first draft form either tomorrow or Thursday. Then the hard work starts in revising it and getting it ready for publishing.
4. Yummy homemade chilli for tea, and homemade hummus for lunch.
5. Chatting online to a Mr Possible from the dating website. Sadly the one who seemed almost too good to be true, and really keen, has faded into the ether...the ball's in his court to contact me and he hasn't. Never mind, plenty more fish, as they say!
Off now to watch CSI and have an early night with my two gorgeous foster cats.Life is not a dress rehearsal.0 -
Evening all,
I've had a bit of a crappy day tondayWork has been rubbish and my boss has been getting stressy with me about work that I need someone else to do. Come on job interview on Thursday! it has been topped off my my receiveing a penalty charge for going into the congestion zone a few weeks ago. I completely forgot to register for it... so £60 down the drain.
So trying to look on the bright side...
1) asked my director for a pay rise and he didn't day no! In fact he agreed that I deserved one, but he couldn't promise anything yet. So at least I have had the conversation.
2) My cleaner has agreed to look after the cats while I am away which is going to save me a fortune on cattery fees, and make them a little less stressed.
3) Had a nice chat with my friend who called me this evening. We work in similar industries so can relate to the pressure that I am under at the moment
4) Had some Tangfastics.... gotta love Tangfastics...
5) Easy supper tonight... butternut and sweet potato soup with homemade bread...
Night all.
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Ollie, you are so kind to write a message for everyone x
 Evening everyone.
1) Cat not limping and is over her first ever scrap with another cat on Sunday.
2) Sunny day.
3) Compliment at work, made mebut was lovely.
4) Back pain good today.
5) 24 in sky planner to watch in a bit when hubby home.0 -
Good evening everyone.
Reverbe - your hm soup sounds lovely. I love "veg drawer" soup (as I call it) - always different, always tasty!
newlywed - I'm sure it wasn't funny at all, but thanks for the image of trying to blow torch teacakes! I hope everything's back to normal now.
nuttybabe - I've been intrigued by your sock monkeys and have just been to look up precisely what they - very cute, seems to be the answer.Congrats to your DS on his reading.
Ladyhawk - sorry to hear you've had such a bad day, but the payrise sounds promising, at least. Good luck for your interview on Thursday.
jem - I'm glad your cat's OK. Mine's not a fighter either, and usually comes to get me if another cat needs chasing away!
My five for today:
1) The flowers on my xmas cactus are open - like newlywed's, it's on its second lot for the winter.
2) Had my current favourite breakfast of hm bread, peanut butter and banana.
3) And it was so filling I didn't want the soup I'd taken to work for lunch: I bought a cheapy sandwich instead and will have the soup tomorrow when I should actually be hungry.
4) A rather petty pleasure - I got some advertising material from a political party I have no love for - I'm registered with the mailing preference people so the party shouldn't have contacted me at all. I took considerable (if rather guilty) pleasure in reporting them. (I said it was petty!)
5) Jambalaya for dinner, in an attempt to make inroads into my stock pile of rice. (I don't even like rice very much, so I can't imagine how or why I have so much of it.)
Have a nice evening, everyone.Back after a very long break!0 -
1. A refund has come through from my credit card company and has been transferred to my holiday spending money fund - I'm nearly ready for the Whitsun holiday already
2. Lost 2lb
3. I've helped a lovely friend who used to sit next to me get a job back with the company after being made redundant 11 months ago. She starts, in a different office, on Monday and I'm so pleased for her as she'd only had 1 interview in that time despite countless job applications.
4. Saw crocuses on my way home from work and a man wearing flipflops at Mr T's
5. Bought lots of YS dry goodies in Mr T's and H0lland & Barrett, and was pleased to see the woman in front of me at the till also had an entire basket full of YS fruit and veg, a kindred spirit, lol.0
