Just back from ceilidh and noone sued us on our new insurance. Day of mixed fortunes. Yesterday you may remember i ordered a new computer and mouse from mr lewis (john not martin), paying the £7 next day delivery charge. At 15:25 my parcel arrived. One mouse. Phoned customer services. They have no idea why my order says complete but citylink have only delivered one parcel. After 17 mins 11 seconds on a 0845 number they said they would phone back. When i went out at 7 they still hadnt, and no email. Currently this is the most expensive mouse ever!
    1) pups had their first trim. Aw bless they look like lambs. They didnt mind the experience at all
    2) sorted noticeboard in kitchen and found a ticket to holyrood i'd forgotten about
    3) although very windy dd2 made it to work ok
    4) scrummy stovies at the ceilidh

Kittikins - I am also feeling rubbishy tonight and sort of peeved with the world! Let's hope we are back to normal in the morning.

    Here are my pleasures anyway.

    1) A lie in.

    2) Lovely kale soup for lunch with lots of stilton crumbled into it. I thought it would be far too "dark green" tasting but sons loved it! We had a tasty chicken and avocado sandwich with it too.

    3) Managed to get bigger son to do some of his art project. Again, I cannot believe what they are supposed to achieve at the age of 13... Find 5 pictures by Chuck Close, print them out, write a paragraph or so about each one. Write 250 words about Chuck Close. Do an A5 painting copying one of your 5 pictures. Look at this picture of an eye done by CC then do one of your own eye... THEN take 3 photographs on the theme of People and save them on a memory stick (we can't find the damned thing!) and write about why you took those photos. Aaarrrghghghgh!

    4) Train set still going strong.

    5) Library phoned and at the moment they still have places at a jewellery making course. It is first come, first served so will pop there tomorrow and pay the fee.

    6) Wassailing! Sons enjoyed the bonfire and running round in the dark and also card games with my brother. Nice to have someone else cooking the tea. Feel I should have made more effort talking to everyone but felt too grumpy. :-S

    7) Just emailed all son's homework to myself plus their Christmas thank you cards so I can print them out in the library tomorrow morning. I have always printed out all their thank you cards including a photo for relations who don't see them very often and that way, they only have to sign them.

(((Hugs))) to all feeling under the weather or out of sorts and (((Sparrer))) (((Yang))) sorry to hear the news about diabetes x

    1. xmas decs packed away. Don't ever buy a "snow effect" tree. Most of the snow falls off when unpacking/packing away the tree and covers everything - still, nothing that a good hoover didn't clear away

    2. popped out between torrential rain storms and picked up my new kettle/toaster in sale half price. Its nice to have a cup of tea with no scale (filter disintegrated in old kettle about a year ago) and a toaster that toasts both sides of the bread at the same time !

    3. most of washing pile done and put away. Only a few items that I actually iron and they are done. Just one more load of washing to do

    4. luckily my appointment at the hospital to see podiatrist was just after a hail storm and just before another rain storm, followed by thunder and lightening

    5. round to a friends house for cuppa and chat. Lovely to catch up

Have a good weekend everyone x

CCP fingers crossed for your sister and that your LL deals with the colander :D you are living in.

 That's exactly what it feels like - thanks for the metaphor!
CCP - poor you! Where is the LL?

At a rough guess, sitting in his own nice, dry house wondering what the fuss is about! He's a really nice bloke, but has a 'mañana' attitude that would put a Spaniard to shame!

I have just, very reluctantly, taken down my Christmas tree. :( Usually I leave it up until Twelfth Night but, with so much water around, I decided it would be safer to get the electric lights put away sooner rather than later. Next time it goes up it will probably be in a different place, a thought which I have yet to decide if it's exciting or terrifying!

A couple of people I forgot to reply to yesterday:

VJsmum - it sounds like your daughter's audition / interview went well - fingers crossed for her.

VickyA - I've been in a similar position before, being in a job that regularly reduced me to tears, and I can tell you that the relief when you leave for the last time is an unbeatable feeling! Best wishes for whatever you decide to do.
Back after a very long break!
  • Hey guys, hope all is well and the wind and rain isn't affecting people too much.

    Just having a cuppa and a quick catch up so mine for yesterday where;

    1. The house is starting to look like a home again, myself and my OH spent a good 12 hours cleaning and re organising after being away for the xmas hols and flat mates quite literally not lifting a finger!

    2. Tried a new recipe for polenta and made some polenta fries! they where lovely and only cost 21p per portion!

    3. Caught up on most of the washing. (Not very exciting I know, but not having it staring at me is most defiantly a pleasure!!!

    4. NSD!!!! Yey!!!

    5. Finally after a mammoth day of cleaning, had a lovely bubble bath with the new xmas smellys and once more the bathroom was gleaming!!! ... its the small things eh??

Massive hugs to all that need them!

    TFE

    Afternoon everyone!!!

    Yesterday's and today so far.

1 got rather merry with half a bottle of wine last night and ate a kebab!!! Omg diet slip up!!
2 felt so guilty about the kebab and was at the gym for 9am this morning.
3got back had a shower, put my thick leggings on as that thermostat is not getting turned up! Everyone is warm but me so I've out my dressing gown on.
4 prepd our tandoori in tikka masala sauce, all chucked in sc atm and smells lovely.
5 deep conditioning my hair, currently sat with a plastic bag on my head and a towel. This would cost me £40 at the salon.
6 my shellac base and top coat arrived this morning so I'm excited to give this a go no more mixing my acrylic, just can't seem to get the consistency right? Looking forward to having glossy looking nails. So far I've got a steady hand when it comes to painting nails. This would cost me £35 at the salon.
7 more pampering myself, il be plucking my eyebrows later as my tinting kit will arrive Monday....hopefully??? Saving myself about £18 altogether I think. That's £93 saving altogether!!!!!!!!!!!
8 watched my first episode of extreme cheapskates on channel tlc.....weird stuff but entertaining to watch, apparently the new series starts on Tuesday so I've series linked that for recording.
    9 miserable weather!!!
    Ds2 born 3/4/12 8lbs 8.5:j
    Ds1 born 28/4/07 9lb 8 :j

    1) Waking up this morning to the sound of the wind throwing rain and hail against my windows and knowing that my decision not to go to the tutorial in Southampton was the right one.

    2) NSD and NPD.

    3) My Easter cactus (which has never been good at reading the calendar ;)) has flowers on it. :)

    4) Around mid-afternoon water finally stopped dripping from the ceiling - the relief that the drip-splash noise has stopped is immense!

    5) Making a chicken, ham and (with mild sarcasm) leek pie for dinner. The filling is made in my usual way (chuck stuff in until it tastes right), and it tastes very good if I do say so myself. It will, of course, have 'yum' on the top, although I don't know how well it will show up on puff pastry!
Back after a very long break!

Ampersand - all the best with early start & enjoy the hyacinths!
VickyA - best of luck with supply teaching! Well done getting rid of a parasitic subscription & making the union one pay you!
Tealady - ah routine - longing to get back there! Hurrah getting fridge processed into freezer!
Broomstick - fruit sponge *and* bed linen negotiation success?Superb! WW2 diaries a robust tonic to present weather.
Frith - casserole clearly a winner! Delighted to hear smaller son rightly appalled at perceived garage rates. Hurrah for train set amidst memory stick frustrations & hurrah for thankyou letters almost done. (My bentwood chair, pistol & whip back in assigned places...)
Caterina - welcome back! Pleased cobblers hours worked out for you! Glad John Lewis treating you properly!
VJsmum - good luck for your daughter's audition & a stroll in the V&A is a treat!
Kittikins - glad you've had a great time & that you're out if the flood area now?! Some pharmacists are worth their weight in rubies.
Mhagster - so glad it's been good (spider-free!), travel safe & land soft! (Canny shopping in the teeth of longhaul & aw, Nessie!)
CNoM - right with you on olive oil as a hair treat! A clear filing system is very helpful - good choice of pre-baby gift! Occasional diet slip is to be expected!
DD - glad to hear someone else veg drawer is a spud & onion drawer! Happy open house - well done & more celidh playing?! Krakov in May? Wow!
Skint yet Again - laundry on line? Wow! Good luck with new fridge freezer! And kettle & toaster? We'll be over for a meal shortly!
BoP - porridge & Raffles sound like a potent combination...
Sparrer - so sorry Yang has diabetes. The chittering ones accept handfuls of seed, from the path, but couldn't brew for me if they tried! Till spit 9pence/litre?! Lucky soul, you!
CCP - pour another bottle & write to LL? Surely your OU tutor will understand, especially if you keep getting the written work in! Sounds a different place *has* to be better? Yeay leek pie -don't let this weather get you down!
Lovefullshelves - at least you saw a surgeon! Albeit a not helpful one. All this fresh air & shrewd shopping - now get thee horizontal under the new bed linens!
Chickenopolis - out in the wrong kit, no meds, & no realisation? Eeek not good. Fingers crossed. Love terrier shaped hwb! Glad chooks safely tucked in.
Thefamousexcuse - welcome! Bubble bath in cleaned bathroom sounds wonderful!

    My recent OS pleasures:
"As a rule I like to keep my daring rescues to one a day..." (Quote from Stargate Atlantis)

James May & the Mecanno bike - love it! Family delighted (& covetous of raw amounts of materiel!).

Tudor farm book - commenting on the horse "an independent thinker who did not feel he had to obey"!
Are we *so* separated from our past (& horses) that this comes as news?!

Just spending time with a wall of ikons leaves me soothed. That my husband was herding the brood through another floor of the museum helped.

Reassured Granny that the thank you letters (hand written) had been sent. Her delight made up for the irritation of her reminding me...

Big hugs to all who need them, clear skies & moderate weather for all & steady as we go!
