Hugs and good wishes to all who need. Just a quick one as it's almost bedtime

    1. All decorations in their boxes except the wreath on the front door - can't put everything away til 12th night :o
    2. Laundry blown dry (had to anchor it down well) before the deluge - still raining now, but not so much thank goodness
    3. Phoned my media provider yet again, third time as they keep messing me about, and at last have negotiated a deal which I shan't believe until I get the printout
    4. A lovely postcard from a friend who is holidaying in Regensburg until next week. It sounds beautiful, I might have to add it to my list
    5. An evening of Dave Allen on the television. He always makes me laugh

Stay safe and dry, sweet dreams :)

    eta Welcome home mhags

It is absolutely stunning and I have been there and round a-bouts several times as have a friend who lives there. It is especially lovely around Christmas with the markets and there is a fairy-tale one up in one of the castles that dot the country-side.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Back to end of my day posting again....just as you're getting up!

Well the main pleasure was a feeling of coming home and that was a nice feeling.
Everything put away where it should be.
Some wind and rain this afternoon ...just in case we were missing it too much.....rustling through the trees wind not hoowoo wind! I think it's been very hot whilst we've been away but in for a pleasantly warm week.
Had a tiny snooze but woke up with a cramp in my leg! Been pottering about trying to stay awake so I can ( try) and sleep at normal time tonight.

Grocery shopping...the downside to emptying stores before a holiday is having to refill! However, it's done . A few items on special but so much more expensive than UK for equivalent products!

Having pizza for tea with RTC salad and the first tomato from the veg patch:)

    Enjoy your Sunday :)

    Morning all

Welcome home, Mhags. Mmmm warm sunshine, I shall have some vicariously :D
For DD - may be boring for others!
I went to Sri Lanka almost exactly a year ago. It was around 35 degrees every day and not much less at night. I don't know about Singapore etc, but Sri Lanka is 7 degrees north so clearly v. warm most of the time. I was working, but not very formally except for a couple of days when I went to the Ministry of Education - which I am guessing you might do too? So I wore "summer" trousers (light canvas) with white / light blouses and sandals. THat felt right. THe women you meet are likely to be in saris so whatever you wear, you will be different! I stayed at the Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel in Colombo - it has a wonderful lakeside restaurant called 7 degrees north! Other restaurants I went to were Beach Wadiya - literally on the beach, though as Billy No Mates amongst various couples / groups I felt a little out of place, but I had my Kindle and was glad I went. There's a lovely caf! at the Dutch Hospital, lovely building too. The Gallery Caf! on Paradise Road is good too (not Mother Kelly's doorstep - :o showing my age!). Finally I had lunch one day at a vegetarian restaurant - Milk and Honey. It was sublime!
THe stretch along Galle Face has great street food starting just before sunset.

I did work, honest, but had a couple of days to myself as well as most evenings. One day I had work to do "at home" to prepare for a meeting but, sunshine in January, I spent the day at the pool and then worked through the evening - it gets dark at 6.

You can get around easily by tuktuk - nothing should cost more than 500 Sri Lankan rupees (about £2.50) but agree the price before the journey begins as they do try it on and will try to take you to the sites! YOu have to be quite firm. They are exhilarating - read, scary!! But great fun :D Being on my own, I found the tuktuks a comfort, knowing that if I was getting hassle I could just jump into one - but the only "hassle" as such was people trying to talk to me. It was very flattering for an almost 50 year old to get "hello pretty lady" yelled at me :p

FInally, if you do get chance, the train ride up to Candy was fabulous. I went with a special company who hitch their coach to the main train - it was safer for me to do that than catch the train itself. if you are interested I can find out the company name.

Oh and jetlag - I am afraid I resort to drugs! Nytol or other sleep aid from the chemist. It means you sleep the night through. Even though it leaves me a little groggy on waking, I prefer it to pacing around a room at god-knows-what-time. After 2 - 3 days I am OK. If you don't want to do that then you have to stick it out - I have been known to power nap, set an alarm for half an hour (or whatever) and just get some sleep.

OK - back in the room!

The YUM pie police is approving :)

    For past couple of days

    1. Friday was work, work, work. Thought it would take a couple of hours - took about 10  The plan was to do a bit of marking, have a bath, pop into town, etc etc. Didn't bathe until 8 o'clock when marking was done  even took kids to dentist unbathed (had done teeth though), and in my pyjama top (under a hoodie and with jeans - though did apply mascara :rotfl:) The pleasure? got it done, I guess
    2. Kids tea was pizza - after dentist, popped into supermarket got 2 pizzas, on getting home handed kids a box each "there's your tea, there's the oven" :rotfl:
    3. Cheese and biscuits for me with a scrumptious glass of red wine, once marking finished. I love red wine, but it doesn't much like me - can give me an anxiety attack - but this one didn't
    4. Lovely bath
    5. Top of the Pops 1979

    And yesterday

    1. OH and I got up and out as he had to go to Malvern on work related stuff. So we called in on old school friend who has caf! there - haven't seen her for 34 years, both of us 200 miles away from school. Really easy to chat to though.
    2. After OH work stuff we went to a lovely deli for lunch - curried sweet potato and squash soup with ginger and coriander. Delicious. Actually there were 3 interesting soups on menu, shame to have to limit it to one
    3. A walk up a hill to work off all the food!
    4. Trip to Worcester - we are looking for my birthday pressie (some piece of art of some kind - but don't really know what I'm looking for:o) - afternoon tea in emaness
    5. Out for dinner with kids (yes, a day of food :D) on the money dad gave us for Christmas for just such a purpose.

Tidying, lecture writing, washing today. Yay :(

    ;)
I wanna be in the room where it happens
