Good evening all !
VJsmum- I hope DD got on ok today??
Mhagster - safe journey xx It sounds like you enjoyed e-v-e-r-y moment in your little cottage
5 for today
1. Work ok if not a little slow
2. Terrier is standing on my leg in disgust as she wants to boot the lap top off of my lap and plonk herself on me.
3. House full of food from xmas, so much choice I can't choose! But it will not be wasted.
4. Legs full of lactic acid from the cycling yesterday - good . Although my gait is even more clockwork and wonky.
5. Day off tomorrow
Have a good evening all
eta GOOD LUCK TOMORROW LFS xxx:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -
1) To quote Frith - not a bad sleep. I had so much on my mind that I thought I would never get to sleep but, after making a mental list of all the things that were worrying me, I managed to doze off and stayed mostly asleep until about an hour before my alarm was due to go off.
2) I need a blazer / jacket for my job interview next week, as the dress code in my current workplace is so casual I don't have one any more. I found one in a sale today, half price, and exactly the sort of style I was looking for - smart enough to look like I've made an effort, but not so formal that I need a whole new wardrobe to go with it.
3) Found a YS joint of ready-cooked ham which will do me for meals and sandwiches for the next few days.
4) Reverbed 5p.
5) Finally got hold of my elusive LL, who claims not to have received any of the messages I sent him over Christmas but has promised to get someone out to look at the leaky roof now he knows about it, although "he didn't find anything wrong last time he looked". I would say that rain coming in through the ceiling is a fairly good indication that something's wrong, personally! :mad:How is your sister, ccp?
Still no news, I'm afraid. The last I heard, the doctors had narrowed it down to one of three things (I don't know what things) and were going to do some more tests to try and identify which one is the cause of her illness. There will hopefully be some more news now that normal working days have resumed.
LFS - best of luck for tomorrow.Back after a very long break!0 -
Good evening everyone :hello:
DH is back at work today, whereas I return to school on Monday. I would say it's been a good day, but I've been doing lots of little jobs.
So, my 5 for today:
1) Ironing pile: gone! :j :j (and not shoved to the bottom of the wardrobe!) All put away too!
2) Used up two bananas in banana bread. Mmmmm, yum! DH will be taking slices to work instead of fruity muesli bars. The bananas were making a bid for freedom, so I'm quite pleased to catch them.
3) NPD
4) Started to contemplate what other things I could do for a job. Not OS, but blinking scary! Teaching is getting no easier and I'm either not in the right school or not in the right industry. However, I know I'm lucky to have a job but I'd rather not have a job where I come home and cry most evenings.
5) Sorted a computer issue for my mum from 60 miles away! We both have "Team Viewer" downloaded on the desktops so I can see her problem (normally a user issue) and move my mouse around until the problem is solved.
She thinks I'm amazing, I just think she needs to remember to right click. :rotfl:
Anyway, the banana bread is about to come out of the oven so I'll say goodbye for now!

Hmmmm...that moment when you realise you need to check out at 10.30am and still have loads to do!
So a brief 5 or so:
Stocked up on cheapy shop supplies.
Primarche
A sausage roll from gr3ggs for lunch
Friends, friends and more friends ....popping in to those we hadn't yet seen.
Take away Indian meal ....delicious
Niece and great niece popped in to say goodbye.:(
I think DFV asked what I was taking back......napkins x4 packs, 8 Christmas loo rolls, cards and wrap and ribbon, Percy pigs, pjs, undies, Halloween cake cases, hair clasps, shampoo, deodorant , tictacs, polos, fudges, soothers, paracetamol ,Vaseline, cake decorations, paper plates, tea towels, apron and a recipe book. All bought in the sales and much , much cheaper than they would be in Oz.
Also some magazines that I won't read until I get back...something to look forward to.
Right I'd better get busy!0 -
DD - having had a huge tribe around me from birth, I find genealogy sites a place to find ancestors not siblings - must have been a shock?! Treble bonus for spelling celidh correctly within 24 hours of it! With you that diets can't start til temptation removed - Tudor Christmas had us all crooning over piglets as well as history!
Tealady - we all need to be called babe sometimes - it's wonderful for morale & giggling! DD OK- ish today (wrists can be wicked sore)? Brew & bed sound wonderful!
cNoM - a lie-in is a treat! Does the nail dryer do the job in the time?! Your headache is why I went on the wagon 12 or so years ago - rousing headaches & toddlers are a vile combination & I'm the only one who drives. In event of emergency, I'd really rather be sober. Getting tinkers washed?! Ah, happy memories of shower & one son in firemans hoist. Others watched wide-eyed & Learned...
CCP - free silly reading is part of kindle fun - I'm a big fan of detective fiction & my kindle means I've metres of it! Hurrah on blazer find & on capturing the elusive LL! All the best to you & sister!
VickyA - hurrah for friendship & avios points, a hamper of "English" things & success along the To Do list! Ironing done too? (Mine hidden in boot of car.)
Chickenopolis - we adore Hot Fuzz even if it isn't really *family* viewing - the whole Cornetto Trilogy draws us like fire! Really fresh eggs & Very Well Trained OH! Hope your trainer's son is found swiftly. All this cycling is admirable if uncomfortable - how else to enjoy all the Christmas treats?!
Bagpuss! Happy New Year!
Broomstick - don't let cabin fever tempt your mum - keep phoning! Wheat free? Sounds very tasty but complex, while I'll just quietly covet your kitchen...
Ampersand - I salute the Libournais who landed his coup de foudre! Hyacinth is one of the smells I can recognise - it does Fill a room, doesn't it! (Mum buys sacks of forced bulbs from the market in September & gives hefty bowls at Christmas.)
Frith - rot the man for being so foolish. Could brother point it out, it being a risk to you & yours? Or a very clear letter? Wow, these veg boxes sound amazing! Have fun with them?
Mhagster - I'm so enjoying your holiday I want it to go on, but your NZ life is as colourful & fascinating, just different. You have yellow stuff & different things in the garden. You *need* to eat more, here, what with the weather!
VJsmum - good luck with audition & marking - hurrah children can Hoover & OH can use a jar!
BoP - leaping Raffles, glorious homemade scran, why would you bother with shop pateee?!
lovefullshelves - I've no idea HOW you grow several thousand celeriac, but please rest up for the goosebumps & indignities of tomorrow?!Trounce DS at witches again when you get back...
OS pleasures
Being awake & out of bed (mattress & I have odd relationship) listening to birds chittering with a mug of tea.
Having started the car insurance renewal palaver & it isn't Much Worse than last year.
Whole family happily beguiled by Flash, again....
"Can you look up how to paint pigs?"
"Thought you used a broom & whitewash - nope, that would be the styes."
"28mm pigs!"
Realising that if I can find my title deeds (ecopy) I can check this tenancy in common but *without* a solicitor (on a You Never Know basis) but I have filed it Somewhere Sensible again... I have to laugh.
Big hug to all who need them, robust roofs & fences proof against wind and rain etc and safe travel to all who must venture out!0 -
Shan't be near putah till Sunday.
Fare thee well mhags and family.
The perfect new job will kick-start your next trip fund before you know it.
You're avoiding even worse weather.
1. nsd/npd.
2. Something dealt with, ready to send.
3. Early start demain, haven't done car yet, hwb any moment.
4. Hyacincth perfume, every time I'm within yards of kitchen. Not just a one-time pleasure.
5. Smoked salmon rouleau shortly.
vicky - put out your ironing good girl hand and have a shiny star. Being clever for Mummy is still a lovely feeling, n'est-ce pas? But your comment about coming home from work as you do is a watershed. Think about it.
lfs - not too proddy hurty I hope - and another celeriac fan.
ccp - thinking of sis., but your landlord...
dfs - try another country? mhags is heading back to an Ashy one.

We can all be thankful way past the tune of 5 osp's compared with this gentleman, who -fortunately - is getting decent, knowledgeable support from others.
-another reason to be thankful for this site and Martin.

Evening
VJsmum - Good luck to DD
LFS - Hope all goes well tomorrow and not too much prodding about
Mhagster - Safe journey
Ampersand - Drive safely and have a great time
Pleasures for today,
1. OH and DD both working this morning so I got back into some sort of routine again.
2. Cooked up all the bargain veg I bought at the weekend and now in the freezer ready to be used in coming weeks.
3. As the sun was out got some washing on the line, not totally dry but better than having it in the house all day and love that fresh smell.
4. Took the decorations down and all put away
5. Sorted a couple more drawers in the bedroom and another bag of things went to the charity shop. Plus another bag of rubbish in the bin.
6. Made a list of jobs I want to get done tomorrow as seemed to work today.
Hugs to all who need them0 -
Bon Voyage, mhagster. I'd like you to stay as well. I've loved hearing about your visit.
And safe journeys to everyone else travelling tomorrow.
(((Vicky)))
Five pleasures for Thursday:
1. Rediscovered a very, very simple fruit sponge recipe.Haven't cooked this recipe since my boys were little and I've realised that this is a brilliant one for fast puddings. Made it with tinned apricots tonight. I saved a few and had mine with yoghurt because I've stuck with the wheat free eating again all day today.
2. I'd planned to get to the shops but didn't so had another NSD.
3. Afternoon nap with a bit of a read beforehand as well. Feeling sooo tired today, even though the sunshine did its best to energise me.
4. Tackled some more clearing out of store cupboards. Have now got a complete list of non-food stuff, including all kind of things from loo roll to cough medicine to printer ink that needs buying.
5. Another chat with my mum on the phone. She's offered to let me raid their spare bed linen to get some more flat sheets and blankets so that I can get my non-duvet bedding properly sorted out. She wants the space and I could use the stuff - win-win.
Sweet dreams.
