Right gals, got to say this!
Back to work tomorrow0 -
Haha BoP, gotta love retirement!0
-
Sparrer - glad you're not feeling too bad.
Happy New Year, everyone!
My pleasures for today:
1) A lie in! Not the longest of lie ins now sons are back but anything after 8am will do.
2) Tasty sandwiches for lunch. Just tuna and pepper for son (grilled with cheese) and hummus and pepper for me, but just what we fancied with some nice grapes.
3) Good Housekeeping came through the post. Haven't had chance to look at it today!
4) Christmas tree down and is waiting for my brother to re-plant it again.
5) Had a good tidy up and dust.
6) DIY SOS was on repeatedly on one of the channels so had that on in the background.
7) Made lots of shortbread biscuits.
8) Party! Well, just us, my brother and my school friend, but that is plenty. Brother picked up the Indian food for us and I cooked the rice, naans and other bits (MS element!) Played Mario Kart on the Wii and lots of games of cards with a few breaks to watch smaller son and his trainset. Guests not long gone and sons now asleep.
9) In bed and about to listen to a couple of episodes of the Archers.0 -
Hello from me and a very happy new year to you all . May it be a happy, healthy and friendly 2014.
I have attempted to post 3 times since Monday but they have disappeared to where ever it is they go!
I am so grateful for my friendships with some lovely people.
Monday : afternoon tea at my friend's very beautiful country cottage. Aga on, scones made and home made plum jam . Tea in china tea cups all just perfectly eaten in front of the roaring fire! Our other friend joined us and it was just lovely to catch up with them both. I was lucky to receive beautiful gifts from them both.
Tuesday: we had lunch with friends...Who also live out in the country in a beautiful house! I had made soup to use up veg and an apple crumble to use up apples and the flour I had leftover...took some food that I won't use over too.
Met up with a friend last night at our cosy cottage 'local ' pub! Nice to catch up with her but I was so tired and just wanted to snooze!
It's been a cosy country cottage kind of holiday...which is nearly overwe leave on Friday and the time has just flown by in a jet lagged haze.
Hospital appointment with mum and it was running an hour late but at least I was there to chat to. Met someone I used to work with 17 years ago.
Kids have caught up with their friends too. Had a noisy teenage sleepover on Monday night...I went to bed!
We had chips from the chip shop on Monday night....nice but none of us could finish our portion! We are obviously too used to Oz chips now!
Loving the little British birds I don't see back home in my garden. Robins, bluetits, sparrows , wrens, mistle thrush and magpies. Not a noisy parrot in sight!
Loving the countryside around me. We've always lived in a town but always within walking distance to countryside ...hence all the friends with country cottages! Yesterday we actually had a blue skies and low sun and the scenery of low ,rolling hills and field after field ( often filled with lake sized puddles after the rain) was lovely....gladdened an expats heart!
Meeting with friends , hugs and squeezes, gifts and photos have to last me in my heart and mind until I see them next.
Popped into see my old boss yesterday .he is 89. Lovely to see him.
I wish you and yours a good 2014 . Here's to many more old style pleasures0 -
Meeting, reading, chatting with everyone here is a good New Year start.
Warm wishes to all, lurkers and posters.
1, Thought of a lot of past years' ends. V. different now, but I'm still here.
2. Still can't seem to make speak-y contact with NZ and France, but came back to msg from latter. Replied to em's expressing concern.
3. Grateful for car. It goes when I need to: bus doesn't always. Finally got to P&R>town>Fitzwilliam yesterday for Edmund de Waal...SHUT! Hadn't checked; assumed normal opening. Walked miles, dredged old bookshops, skimmed Hotel Chocolat sale, took pics: pink cloud towers over punting river in heart of town against ancient College backdrop[not a patch on bop's, but still a memory bank capture] For some reason, had never noticed the wording on St John's gates: Souvent Me Souvient, until I offered to fotey visiting couple against them. Finally, before minuit, ended up back here. Was expected somewhere else, but quickly asleep.
4. Last em before 2014 to someone.
5. Just as well I checked a date, so London/Brighton tomorrow>w/e.
6. Compline tonight.
mhags - I can hardly believe your wonderful cottage holiday has passed so quickly either. Can you opt to return or do you want to vary? You really did pick a winner with such terrific owners and it's been wonderful to read how easily your old family/friends threads have been picked up. Good luck with the new job hunt too, which we know is near-next-ish on your list.CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

We didn't end up going to the reception last night. Because of the cost it would easily of cost us £30+ to get home in a taxi. So we stayed in, put pjs and dressing gowns and turned the heating down.
We put a film on from the sky store as we had been given a free film to watch, three bottles of wine from our premier shop £8! And had a takeaway pizza £13.00.
And we ended up going to bed at 10:45pm haha but put a wash load on before hitting the sack.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
