Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
Evening all, and thanks for the kind comments re Isis. I've seen a bit more of her today - she's no longer running away in apparent terror every time I move - so can better appreciate her gorgeousness than when all I see is a rapidly retreating tail!

ampersand - the success stories make for great reading, don't they? I was particularly pleased to read Mikey's, having met him briefly when I went to the shelter, but they're all good.

sparrer - hugs to both you and Yang, and fingers crossed all is OK for you both.

LFS - gentle hugs to you, too, so as not to damage you further. Enjoy the TPs!

    1) Dreadful night's sleep last night - I finally managed to doze off properly just as it was starting to get light, and didn't wake up again until the day was well into double figures. :o I'm glad it wasn't a work day today, and that the LA office wasn't open as I had thought.

    2) NSD - probably the last for this year as I intend to pop to the shop tomorrow for a treat dinner for NYE. I'm quite pleased with my total of 84 for the year. :money:

    3) Did a decent amount of studying, and found it quite interesting even though it's a period I have already studied several times before (early Augustan Rome, for anyone who's remotely interested).

    4) Indian fakeaway for dinner.

    5) Thanks to no more rain and slightly more CH than I would usually use my flat is starting to dry out, and at least doesn't smell as revoltingly damp and musty as it did when I came home on Saturday.
Back after a very long break!

Tealady - a lie in is a lovesome thing! A snooze comes a close second. At least DD clearing up once "mislaid" floor. My lot carry on...
Chickenopolis - at least you kicked no shins, leaving The Tall. I'm not always that self disciplined... Clean bedding, terrier on beach, yellow stuff! Pity you had to work, but at least it was relatively quiet!
CCP - Isis is asserting her authority. Only share pigs in blankets if she's deliberately adorable?!
VJsmum - it's a chore being the short one, but at least you get to hide things on the top shelf at the back of the fridge. Tall folk don't fold willingly. (Give youngest 2 years & I'll be shortest of 3 generations, 5 to include little cousins.) Blurt & blub, that's the way. It does help. 84 NSDs this year! <awe!> early Augustan Rome? Horologium Augusti telling the time when the sun cooperates?
Ampersand - bag sounds stunning & rightly worthy of appreciation! AR a bit money centric but the van G was glorious - faintly Malkovitch!
camNolliesMUMMY - sleep! Hurrah! Better than champagne! Rid of packaging already? Superb!
VickyA - the joy of the sale is the chase, if not the win. Vouchers do expire eventually but no rush to the wrong thing. Good on you batch cooking! I'm stuck at the learn to put-in-freezer stage.
Mhagster - intrigued to see what you're taking home! Other than loads of rightly happy memories!
DD - a lighthouse cloth is in the pattern, then! (Lighthouse opera a Pete Townsend project IIRC but also a Peter Maxwell Davies thing) Dr.Who cloth cute! (Blanket a real hombre to knit & assemble.)
Broomstick - well done getting to the far side of the bug & likewise to your parents! Glad to hear the openplan fencing is not a contentious issue.
Frith - the last lie-in, but the joy of knowing they're back at school!
sparrer - you did *all* that, just so you've a clean space to store tins? <virtual headshaking!> Liquids only diet - the medics aren't completely finished yet, are they? Fingers crossed for you, not least as my turn next week I suspect! Special hug to Yang!

BoP - ah laminated flooring. Us twofoots nasty petty vengeance for not being graceful fourfeet. The indignant expression as they slide, and the yet deeper indignation as we laugh, is stunning!
Skint yet again - yep, dratted cold & dark after the yellow stuff. Your fridge freezer has died? And the weather so *changable*. Best of luck with finding a replacement! And making yourself pay for it - you do know that if you Don't buy it, the old one will conk at The Most Awkward Moment & the planned replacement will be out of stock for months.
lovefullshelves - more TP! Excellent, plus 4 random novels. My sympathies with the diary - it hurts, but yes 2014 will be better. New microwave makes life simpler for your menfolk...

OS Pleasures the last couple of days
"Because I'm inter-, intil-, clever!" Listening to a son get himself out of deep water is fun...

Son has said I remind him of Ian Hislop - given the respect & admiration I hold this man in, I am minded to be thoroughly amused!

M'husband, on getting a cramp in his leg, stretched it out. Sending a jar of water flying & causing a mass disrobing as every lad there rushed to mop... [House rule - if you knock it over, mop it up, & if that means your shirt, strip...]

What do you call a dinosaur that eats & eats & eats? An om-nom-nomnivore....

"Enough garlic to kill a frog" - a new rating for our spaghetti bolognese...

Big hugs to all those who need them, hot water bottles reliable white goods & kitchen appliances to all who depend on them & some floors merit polishing, others excavating...

Aye DFV we can but larf.

    SCRABBLE Latest.

    1-1 this evening.

Decider. Ms Bop on the rum.
She lays off a Zit on Wit, leaving the I's next to a pimk square. I thinks she has the Q to play next.

Fortunate that BoP has a M to cover the Pinkie. Darned, she puts the Latin for water down. Tight game.

Donna diva is on the music system. Pure indulgence.

    Wobbleades are flowing!

It is a blank, for BoP!

    40 behind.

It would be be unkind to win every night, so with the blank stuck in my hand and forty behind. I looooose by a country mile. Next!

    Evening

Ampersand - wander in the countryside while ye may, I say
Camnolliesmum - not enough to be described as yummy, the pie must say Yum, it is the law
VickyA, good luck with the quiz
Mhags, sounds like you are having the loveliest time
DD nice content post from you
Tea lady, lazy days are good
Broomstick, the diary sounds good, may look it up
Frith, glad someone's trains are running :D
Sparrer, thinking of you. Hope you enjoyed your extreme menu today
BoP , LOLling at the cat on the laminate. Having witnessed that myself it is funny. Like a cartoon cat
Skint, congrats on the new freezer
LFS you have to do your time. Soon you will be wishing you could sit down for a while :) maybe not have the anniversary in your diary? You won't forget it, and if you do - well, maybe that's healthy.
Chicken - like it when it stays lighter later
CCP - 84 NSDs is fab (wasn't me DforV.). More like 4
DforV - Ian hislop? I wouldn't know whether to be chuffed or offended :D

    Phew!!

    Today's pleasures

1 despite taking DS out for the day, I didn't have to wake too early and OH bought a cuppa at 7.30
2 MiL drove us to station in pouring rain. She then went home - double result :rotfl: I am very fond of her but, goodness, she is hard work at times
3 good train Journeys. And connections and got loads of marking done
4 DS and chum enjoyed the National Museum of Football. Though they weren't there that long. The day was as much about the journey there as it was about the museum. DS chum is not as confident, so it was good for him to be a bit independent - I just deposited them at the museum and they made their own way back to the station (including a tram) I sat in first class lounge with marking
5 egg and chips for tea :D
I wanna be in the room where it happens

    AND R4, early news!
    1. Magnificently starry night. Wrap up, go and look before you head to byes.
    2. Exceptionally clear sharp afternoon arrived from nowhere as I was driving. Away, away, away left, could see Cathedral over 30 miles distant. No hills here, but small ascendance=altitude. Rare, but today it worked.
    3. A trout@Mr T CS needed attitude transplant yesterday, which I advised; strongly righted elsewhere today.
    4. Hours of bloodhounding for someone this a.m. yielded result. Back from leave Thurs, when &will be on case. [Does someone want to warn him?]
    5. Still don't know what's happening Thurs, but have London Sat again anyway, maybe more.
    6. Read this Archers post just now.

Here's a thought - why don't losers Helen and Darryl get together? Then they can have a good old moan and go and top themselves together. Get rid of two infuriating characters in one fell swoop. The saccharine Jess will, of course, find out that the odious Rob has been cheating on her, and will find comfort in the arms of a newly reformed Jazzer. Rob will fall desperately in love with the pregnant Leonie (don't they just deserve each other!), and James will realise that, all along, it has been the maternal Kathy that he has been dreaming about.'

But my Lawks moment ce soirCOLOR="Magenta"]and I 'fess I pulled over into lay-by to listen[/COLORwas hearing Adam say something about Jennifer's b'day next week.....NOT Friday, please not Friday....can anyone put my mind at rest?

    New Years Eve Eve!

    Pleasures for today:

    1) Bit of a lie in, despite sons being back!

    2) Train running well.

    3) Went swimming with sons and my brother.

    4) Smaller son doing the usual first day home from daddy's manic thing. And with a rash up the side of his chest/neck/face as the ex refuses to believe he can't have bubble bath/toiletries....

Awful behaviour from him all day until I hit on the idea of sitting him by the fire, in the dark, watching Mary Poppins!

    5) Pasta for tea then we baked a final batch of mince pies.

    6) Watching James Bond now.

    NYE party tomorrow!

broomstick 'Few Eggs and No Oranges: the Diaries of Vera Hodgson 1940-45'. sounds just my kinda book. will look out at the library
frith trains running is always good. ask my daughter. she has a part-time job with East Coast Railways and has the power to open up a train ;-)
jealous of the drying weather skint it's been persisting all day here
"What do you call a dinosaur that eats & eats & eats? An om-nom-nomnivore...." dfv made me larf and reminded me of DS when much younger saying to my vegetarian friend he was a carnival,.
spent lovely day hiding from the rain. Gave me a good excuse to..
    1) sort toiletries. some thrown, some dispersed, some stored
    2) sort knitting wool. wow what a lot I've got! threw away the booties i knitted for the son who didn't make it 24 years ago which was a little sad but cathartic too
    3) mark some assignments. the downside of going away for 2 weeks for work in January is if I don't do some marking during my holibags I'll be stressed out of my tiny the week back before travel
    4) bake some bread and make a quiche. haven't made quiche for yonks. bottom was a bit soggy (can just hear bop chortling over dd's soggy bottom) but good to get back to cooking
    5) knit the first 'square' for DD2's blanket. The Tardis and a weeping angel. Don't blink!!!!!!
tomorrow night will be strange. First one i'll have not spent with xoh for 30 years. life moves on. but still a little wistful...
