camNolliesMUMMY - thanks so much for that tip about the potatoes. I'll definitely try it with some potatoes I have but probably won't use quickly enough.

    My pleasures for today:

    1) Posted the last of the Christmas cards. Not OS as they cost so much to post, but we have so many friends and family far and wide that it's the only way to contact them sometimes!

    2) Decided that I'm NOT sending my colleagues cards, but I'll donate money to charity instead.

    3) Chicken stir fry cooked this evening for supper. Used up some limp veg in the fridge. :o

    4) Planning our meals for the rest of the week, including my work Christmas meal on Wednesday! :j :j DH claims he still needs to eat. Shame! ;)

    5) Paid my credit card again (IN FULL :money:). I'm aiming to have everything sorted for Christmas. :D

Just got back from visiting my mum bro n sis as it's my bros 18th birthday today.

She said go from freezer to oven, don't leave them out the freezer to go into the oven for long as they may turn black then. The coating in oil must act like a barrier whilst freezing.

Right roller coaster of a day today. However, here's five pleasures from the good bits:

    1. Got a load of washing almost dry under the Rotaire and in the rain :D Brought it in after dark when I'd put the central heating on.

    2. Popped into M'nS and picked up a meal deal for a tenner. The pud will do for later in the week, the fizzy elderflower will do for Xmas (and nobody had better touch it beforehand or else! It's v. popular here - I don't buy/drink alcohol so it's the booze substitute.) The main and side course will do for tonight as a change from freezer emptying. The freezer meal planned for tonight has gone to defrost in the fridge and will do for tomorrow night instead when DS1 is back. He's eating out posh in London. DS2 and I are now doing the same but at home. :D

    3. Another £2 for next year's car tax! Have also started a 20p collection to save up for that very expensive pot of ink! (40p saved - only about a tenner to go!)

    4. Listening to 'Precious Metals' on R4 - Thanks Ampersand.

    5. A link on another thread sent me off on a tangent for a youtube search for folk singers, including Nic Jones. Loads of good memories. So tempted to try to get to see him live next year.

    Sweet dreams

    4. HM chilli from the freezer for tea, thank heavens for me and my freezer!
    5. listening to DS playing his drums:) cool!
Oh I took a picture of my tummy..it doesn't look like that from above, blargle!!
    Big hugs xx

    Pleasures for today:

    1) Not a bad sleep.

    2) Storage heater man appeared and has put a new thermostat in the downstairs heater. It has not worked properly for about 4 years but I haven't used it as I just light the stove in here instead.

    3) Second mother popped in with 2 selection boxes for sons' Christmas.

    4) Went into town to try and finish Christmas shopping. Nearly there now! Went round the charity shops and got a mini Boden top for bigger son and a scarf for me. Went to the Oxfam bookshop and got a massive encyclopaedia of trains for smaller son (brand new!), another Anthony Horowitz for bigger son and a novel for me.

    5) Yesterday's macaroni/cauli cheese for tea.

    6) Looking forward to ISIHAC later.
  • Broomstick - mystery soup & imaginative seed window shopping - sound a wonderful day! Then a very full one! What did you reckon to the Little Death Orchestra?!
VickyA - got my first £2 coin potted up towards car tax! With you on limiting outgoing post & hurrah DH cleaning! Meal planning one of the best OS tools going - hungry folks get more bread to eat.
sparrer - delighted to think of lad well fed & hugged & sent on his way! They're such Tidy souls, hungry lads. Very little food waste! A happy son is a delight.
Frith - porridge, a short break & fingers crossed for D&D? Sounds glorious! Holby baffling, but no sprechensie. Storage heaters are fun, piles of good reads even better!
lovefullshelves - ribbon woven flowers next?! And another bath, you mermaid, you! Enjoy every drop & twinkle. Keep the feet Up & keep reading, Maskerade wonderful fun - I love Agnes/Perdita! (And Granny as a retired courtesan - cooer!)
mhagster - sing every step of the way - it's fun! DD2 missed paid trip/. Drat whereas DD1 covered in glory? Excellent.
camNolliesMUMMY - the cooking all sounds wonderful! Right with you on not wanmting to get out of bed! Happy birthday your brother!
BoP - an 8lb cake?! Don't let Raffles near it! The combination could be devastating...
CCP - interview FRIDAY?! Thank god they moved it. Candle lit for you & sis & parents. All this quizzing & partying - fun!
Chickenopolis - counting the days with you & macaroni cheese cooked by someone else sounds glorious!
Skint yet Again - spinal fitness class? Eek! Ah, the Weth's feed - we had our team do there & didn't need to eat the rest of the day, veyr MS in its own way!
DD - you have a 22 yo daughter? Blimey! <shakes head in admiring disbelief>
VJSmum - aww Scooby Doo - wonderful in the right company! And lunch at Jamies, while DS cooks cake?! You done good!

    OS Pleasures
This, then three more days. Then let the rumpusfeast begin! Anticipation is a juicy pleasure...

Of course, with the prospect of leave, my nose starts to run - time to uncork the ginger syrup & neck a bracing dose. I've more on the freezer & am wondering about a ginger turmeric fusion.

Met a lady minding a charity shop, with a braid as thick as my wist, down past her waist. After I stomped down the jealousy, we chatted hair & her secret is genetics. Ah well, benign neglect is affordable & effective.

Carols sung, & candle lit. Hurrah for colleague leading the field trip as the Hidden Gem is very aptly named.

Several Explorer scouts tenderly asked in son was getting onions in his stocking. (But of course! and a satsuma, but the onions are essential...)

Big hugs to all who need them, giggles tickles & sellotape to all those short thereof & does anyone know where the clean hankies are hiding?

    1. ISIHAC was hilarious :)

    2. Sat in the uni library and worked pretty much solidly from 10am til 6:30pm and still have tons to do!! But, I'm glad I was able to cross out a lot from my to do list...

    3. I've arranged for DD and I to take one of her friends out to see a science show over the holidays.

    4. Bumped into a couple of course mates, I wasn't the only person in the library!

    5. Dropped the original copy of my school report in to the relevant office - what a relief :)

    6. Picked up a very happy DD from her Brownies' Christmas party this evening :)

    1. Had a sleep-in, it was a lovely busy and very full weekend but I was so tired this morning that I enjoyed doing very little
    2. Had a bit more get up and go this afternoon, sorted out the freezer and labelled everything - will be interesting to see if I've got it right!
    3. Made and portioned some cauli cheese and added a Cumberland sausage to each, now have 5 more dinners in the freezer
    4. Postie brought me a pair of oval brass miniature photo frames but one was missing its glass. Contacted the seller who has kindly refunded the money for both yet allowed me to keep them :)
    5. Re-installed Skype, which I uninstalled when my dear Aussie friend passed away as I didn't think I'd be needing it any more, but with a friend going to NZ it will be very useful again

Ready to fall into bed again and don't have to set the alarm in the morning. Sweet dreams :)

I enjoy lots of os simple things - I think the knack is knowing how to see them - they're everywhere if you want them to be.

Looking out of the window and seeing the sparrows on the feeder
A rose still flowering in December
    A walk on the beach
    A sunset
    Tea with my family

You just need to know how to open your eyes and see them!
