chicken the bird won't grow that big. I hope! Apparently it's called Echo which makes me think it's very chatty
. Don't worry about the birthday, I have an acquaintance with the same as mine and we're chalk and cheese, thank goodness
ampersand I agree re wiki, a mine of information. Billie Holliday yes.
VJsmum what a good idea to make Christmas cakes in ramekins, I make one in a giant dog food tin and cut it into 3 before icing for the singles I know. Need to wrap a good amount of brown paper round the outside though so it doesn't burn.
DD congrats on finding the 'extra' to reach your tenner, plus some
mhags the chips sound weird! But won't knock it til I try it, even with chicken salt!
CCP re Lively Lady conversation :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Good for you buying yourself a treat, we all deserve one now and then
BoP Mr Raffles has a definite 'Don't mess with me' look
Broomstick well done your son, a wonderful achievement
DFV tea at Champneys was just as I'd imagine tea at The Savoy. Dainty finger sandwiches, salmon roule, fruit scones with raspberry jam and clotted cream (my friend knows I don't like strawberries), a cakestand full of lots of yummy things I found it extremely hard to resist and a pot of Earl Grey, perfick.. I made a bit of a pig of myself and almost fell asleep during the meeting afterwards
1. Spent most of the day sleeping, was getting very annoyed with it as it's such a waste of time, then a friend told me on the phone it's probably due to Stemetil, a med I've been given for dizziness. Seeing GP again after the scopy-thingy on Tues so maybe he'll give me something to stay awake! The pleasure is being told what the probable cause is
2. Spent the evening listening to the soundtracks of Porgy and Bess and White Horse Inn thanks to some old tapes I inherited
3. Wrapped the first of many presents, at least I've made a start. Also wrote a few of the cards I've bought for this year, it's nice to have only a dozen to write instead of the usual 6 or 7 dozen. Still feeling guilty although everyone I've told thinks it a sensible idea.
4. Two bundles of bedding for CP delivered to my door today, didn't take long for word to get about and it's very kind of people, but I hope it doesn't become a regular thing as it has to be taken to a base 8 miles away.
5. Phone call from DS who is working over Christmas so is coming down to spend a weekend with me in a couple of weeks time. Will have to make it a special time, he'll no doubt be rushed off his feet in his 'big yellow taxi' as he calls it. Thank goodness for the emergency services
Sweet dreams0 -
Hurrah it's Friday
Woke up early and went out a long-ish walk, posted my Christmas cards at the same time.
Did grocery shop , bit more than past couple of weeks but did include some bits and bobs for Christmas and food for DD1's belated birthday do tomorrow .
Came home , hung out washing, moved furniture back into place in family room and put the oven on.....
Made dozens of tiny little pink and white meringues, rocky road cakes and a Christmas rainbow cake which isn't really a rainbow. Saw it in free supermarket magazine. One red layer, one green layer, 2 normal sponge layers. Butter cream icing to be done tomorrow ....will top with little tiny ice cream cones, covered in white chocolate and then with coconut to be snowy trees. Also made strawberry jam to go with scones ( as per requests) which I will make tomorrow . DD1 is having friends over for afternoon tea ( might not be sparrers standards but I will do my best!) They have now finished school for the summer holidays.
Watched programmes on you tube as I baked. Again , thankful for the coolness of the day to make baking easier.
Girls came in from school ...hello and then straight back out again...Cheerio. Enjoyed the extra hour of peace and quiet.
My daughters have just dealt with a spider on their landing! Apparently the second largest they have seen! Much trauma but rather them than me.
It has just started to absolutely pour with rain! Threatened all day but hasn't until now....oh well, we are all in and dry.
Have the loveliest of Fridays ....catch up tomorrow0 -
1) My sister should be leaving hospital shortly. :j It's only temporary - she has to go back next week for a liver biopsy - but, after four days on a drip and a blood transfusion to treat serious anaemia, she is now strong enough to spend the weekend at home with her partner. :j
2) A dreadful CBA day which, fortunately, coincided with having not much to do at work. I spent more time than I would like to admit following the Amaz0n Black Friday sale, but now have another part of my sister's Christmas present (a cushion decorated with a picture her favourite Muppet) and have a good idea for a present for my dad (they were selling a 'psychedelic salad' seed set, which I reckon I can recreate more cheaply and with more interesting types of veg).
3) Saw on the CP website that the other cat I considered adopting before choosing (or being chosen by) Isis has finally found a home of her own. :j I don't know why such an attractive, affectionate cat has taken so long to be picked, but then the same goes for Isis and look how that turned out.
4) Bought a cheap bottle of apple wobbleade for cooking, then dropped it when I got home and damaged the bottle. I don't know what I'm going to use the rest of the contents for now - any ideas?
5) Planning on relaxing after a stressful week in a sensible and mature manner - a glass (or two) of wine, a RTC pepperoni pizza, and the Muppet Movie on DVD.Back after a very long break!0 -
Good evening all!
BoP - raffles is defo an alpha male hunter gatherer type!
CCP - as father Jack would say "Drenk Drenk Drenk !!" you like a bit of cider .
Sparrer - yellow taxi :rotfl:
5 for yesterday
1. Work busy. Serious meeting had many amusing elements ..
2. Colleague who has been promoted within the team (we were all asked if we wanted to "step up" to do this role but declined) said that they can't hack it . I can quite understand why .
3. Terriers new dog tag came that I ordered from a website that errr...isn't on the high street . I don't like putting a home address on it so put "please call my people" on it
4. Macaroni cheese with smoky bacon crisps crumbled on top. How common. How lovely:)

Sparrer, don't feel guilty. Such a sensible idea and a great charity. I think water is such a luxury to have. I think clean, hot water would be my desert island luxury, preferably with accompanying bath tub
Mhags, I watch th Inge on YouTube or I player while I work in kitchen. So cool that the IPad magnets itself to the fridge
CCP - glad sister is allowed out. Hope next week goes well
Chicken, love that patisserie. Seems a waste to. Have toast though. We, too, had beef for slow cooker - bought beef in Chinese supermarket. Good value and so tender
Yesterday's pleasures

3 potter round kitchen making broccoli soup(broccoli was in the super 6) and tonight's beef in beer in slow cooker

VJsmum, good luck to DD with the bumpy audition ride. Although, it might be easy peasy and straightforward.:D
Too tired/busy yesterday to post but here's five pleasures for Friday:

Beautiful Saturday ....sun finally came out, sky now blue and warm rather than hot.
Up early and made my butter icing for cake and decorated and then remembered why I'd said never again last week....crumbs in the icing! But had the company of my iPad . Set table for birthday tea.
Went out for coffee....I had water and pinched some of OHs fruit salad.
Cheap date.
Nectarines , peaches and cherries are in season and cheapsuch a taste of summer.
Walk with OH and he had another coffee stop... Had a bite to eat for lunch.
Bit of gardening.
Tidy houserooms of doom upstairs look perfect
Gaggle of girlies round for belated birthday afternoon tea. They are all nice girls and were all dressed for the occasion.
Made nachos, salad , sausage rolls, garlic bread to start and then lemonade scones ( gone very quickly ) with fresh strawberry jam and cream , very pretty pink and white meringues and cream, little chocolate muffins and lashings of tea
Treated myself to some flowers from ald:, first flowers I've bought since September . Then picked a little posy of garden flowers to welcome guests outside the front door.....checking for beasties!
One of DDs friends mum came in and asked if we had any mint in the garden ...have we ? Tonnes of the stuff so she went off with that, a pile of rhubarb , coriander and lettuces.. It was such a nice feeling to give our own produce away.....mint was going to become a mojito.
Much fun and laughter in the garden , DD given a swing ball set as a gift so they are playing with that. When we moved here , she left behind ( as we al did) good friends but has made friends with some lovely people. Makes a mummy happy to hear happiness .
Have a lovely day and happy St Andrews day0 -

DfV how did you manage that? Sons see you for the wonderful person you are... my son just thinks I'm a blethering idiot who doesn't know anything about anything!
