Pleasures for today:
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Tomato soup for lunch.
3) Got stuck in a CS book.
4) School friend here so made her favourite tea (toad in the hole).
5) Bigger son did a bit of half hearted homework.
6) A little shrew crept out of my log pile here in the living room and I've been watching it creep around the edges of the room! No idea how to catch it.
7) Bed soon with hwb and the Archers.0 -
Lots of yummy cooking going on on this thread nom nom. I came home to v. Nice chicken stew. Shame about the rugger ampers. I'm now listening to ipswich and i'm not talking footie.
Hope the lava lamp worked frith
Hmmm i'll let you know how i get on with the poodle lfs as my knitting skills are pretty basic. May be suitabele for a bag lady rofl
Good to hear of things surplus to requirements going to a good home dfv
1) watched dr who with dd2 and her bf. We had yorkshire puds with our kievs (since dr who claimed to have invented them) followed by jammy dodgers and of course tom baker's faves, jelly babies.
2) bought 3 plastic storage boxes to fill with retro sweeties for the children (idea from another thread on here) plus bought myself a chocolate advent calender in lidl as down to 49p
3) bought several more bargains for sister and dad. They like lots of little pressies so i do an anagram, wrapping each present with the initial of that gift. This year sister's family box anagram has 14 letters (11 done) and dad's 12 (6 done)
4) home from edinburgh on a very very busy aberdeen train. Very lucky to get a seat. £92 for my return dundee to newcastle. One does expect a seat!
5) Home to very affectionate pups and cats. Even xoh pleased to have me home! We watched lost in austen which is available on youtube.MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

1. Beautiful start to the day, yellow thing struggled but stayed, albeit weakly, til mid morning
2. DGD3 wants a gingerbread house for her birthday, found a build-it-yourself one in Mr M for under a fiver and bought some extra decorations, icing etc, to go with it.
3. Quick shop in nearby town proved very profitable, £4 + saved over 6 items.
4. Excellent lunchtime meeting with friends and as always a tasty late lunch afterwards. Good to be able to be a sounding board for one friend who has some frustrating family issues at the moment.
5. Another friend offering to to accompany me when I go for tests as they'll be done under local anaesthetic and won't be able to drive myself home. Like most I hate asking for help but she offered before I mentioned it. Very grateful for such good friends.

Evening
Pleasures for today,
1. Cup of tea in bed this morning and a read of my book
2. Bought DD needed new jeans using 25% off voucher and got me some new shoes using 20% off voucher in another shop
3. Free tea and cake for both DD and myself in John Lewis, thanks to :money:. As OH wasn't with us DD can use his voucher during the week as a treat while she is at college. The Waitrose in Kingston also does a takeaway drink now so will be able to take advantage of that next time.
4. Making a pack of sauasages stretch to 5 meals. OH had some for breakfast this morning and the rest was turned into Sausage, Veg and Pasta Soup which fed the 3 of us this evening and will do me for lunch tomorrow.
5. Ham cooked for lunches, tomato sauce made ready for tomorrows dinner and stewed plums done to go into porridge for breakfasts.
6. I really don't like heights and balconies to the extent that when shopping in the big shopping centre when on the 2nd floor with its glass panels and railings I walk next to the shops and don't like DD to walk next to the edge. Today when we were shopping a girl ran out of the shop and lifted herself off the floor on the railings and was leaning over, so scary but thankfully she stepped back down. I was nearly sick and am still shaking thing about it but thank goodness she was safe. Not sure where her parents were so informed security what we had seen and they were going to find the parents to have a talk with them.
Hugs to all who need them0 -
Thank you for sharing all your pleasures.
Chicken, I will be keeping things crossed for TinyTerrier. Hopefully it's an abscess.
When Boo the foal was four weeks old her breeder found her with a badly swollen jaw. Momentary horror and thoughts of a break, but it turned out that Boo had tried to eat stinging nettles.
Ampersand, black olives sound a lovely addition to the fishcakes, I will also use breadcrumbs next time. I am thrilled you liked them.
Frith , lava lamps take HOURS to get going. I had an original 70s one, broken by DD who broke bloody everything she could get hold of and climbed constantly to reach all. If it was in her hands as a toddler it had to be destroyed.
1. I loved Dr Who. Reminded me of why I loved it when I was younger. David Tennant back again, cameos from Tom Baker...
2. Two lovely pens in the post from Amazon Vine and already reviewed. Books en route too.
3. Dr C. went to Leeds for a guitar masterclass and enjoyed it so much, it was jazz guitar which is something he wanted to know a lot more of, and he does, now.
Great to see him so enthusiastic and happy about something. He has plans in place for the next few weeks that sound good and involve going down to the South - West of England and Wales, where family are.
4. I got into the red jeans I bought brand new from a CS in Darlo, 5 or so years ago, marked size 18 and actually a very small size 16. Happy me.
5. I accessed FB idly whilst Sis was on the phone; my niece's close friend, who delivered 2 of her 3 children (and was featured in the Midwives TV prog) has got engaged in whilst on holiday in India.
Her boyfriend proposed in front of THE Taj Mahal, on Diana's bench.
6. Found some photos I had thought lost, one is quite an interesting social 'comment' and will be published on the Net. I'd mentioned it to an archivist and he was keen that I find it if possible.
Another of these pics that I found was a school photo of mine.
I have heavy eyebrows, dark blonde fringe cut two inches above them like a Norman, but a clear skin - it was Acne City a year or two later, though I escaped scars. I'm now dark brunette naturally. Also found, a pic of me with my Mum, sister, niece and my children, taken by my ex 29 years ago.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Morning. Offski.
People often remark what is under my apron. I say, it is he same as what in under the duvet.

DD - sounds like you had a *great* match & shared the fun with wee saltire. Love the Dr.Who meal <covet jelly babies>
VickyA - oh yes, clean sheets! Bliss... Pity Joules wasn't up to hopes, but well done planning!
Frith - You survived the London trip! If it helps get you more help, so much the better, but you are Wonderful. Don't let *anyone* take how much you achieve away - where lesser parents would have shelved the idea, you bought the railcard & did the job in style. If the lamp doesn't work, it's duff & can be replaced. How is little shrew doing?
mhagster - love a sunday snoozette!
VJsmum - love the idea of cracked face mask & all the best with DD's driving lessons. Supervising homework is no fun - glad you had choc chip muffins!
lovefullshelves - trying to imagine Mr.LFS shopping for ladies drawers... Hope he was successful & that you are decently & comfortably clad! Yeay Raising Steam! Got your "I Aten't Dead" card sorted?!
BoP - those fishcakes look utterly scrummy. And of course, any crumbs left are cleared by Raffles. <envies cat>
Chickenopolis - how are you & tiny terrier & why is her face swollen? Hens moult? <live & learn!>
CCP - hurrah for a lie-in, generic medication & anything with bacon! Best fuel to make it through the cold weather...
Broomstick - glad to hear all home & safe, mozzarella salad sounds glorious!
Purple kitten - a lie in & a good day - excellent!
ampersand - your carboot more fun than mine, but menfolk happy & so long as coffee machine works at Waitrose. Entirely reasonable to delay passport til full stero vision clearly restored.
sparrer - all the best with gingerbread house &, of course, tests.
Tealady - cup of tea in bed - HOW?! (Mine use it to haul me out of bed.) John Lewis tea & cake, eh? Absolutely with you on terror of children, heights, glass panels, railings & potential nightmares.
mcculloch - great to hear Dr.C getting into jazz guitar! Do admire family proposal venue - what an amazing place!
Sunday's OS pleasures
Pause before moving off - husband found open door had wedged into verge. (Bless the man, he took sole responsibility, despite the tonnage up front.)
Changed the rear wiper - daft feeling of accomplishment!
Eldest has earned his Young Leader badge & the nickname "Onions"... Good to have him back. [Despite tired, hungry & denying it all grouch!]
Husband picked up whoops rtc steak pies, so family supper all much more straightforward! (Hopes he's learning MS techniques dashed - cabinet was next where he was browsing anyway!)
"I've got to put my boots in the oven" - progress on waxing home-made AngloNorse boots. Temperature apparently "set for meringue"...
Tempting fate, but so far, today's pleasures
My feet look like chocolate truffles dusted with cocoa powder in these new boots. Warm, comfortable & holding the pavement well.
Drive in through dark - no rim of light around the horizon. Hurrah for a well rubbed windscreen & lights!
Going through Asda receipts - got a £3 plus payback on one! Now, chocolate or a decoration... (Funny money, so I get to pick.)
Been given a spectacularly Big Cardboard Box. Once dusted, & perhaps partly "wrapped", it'll be the basis of various Christmas Photos - if offspring cooperate!
Big Hugs to all who need them, whatever works &/or has been prescribed for all ailing (add a deep inhalation of brandy if slow to 'kick in') and It Is Too Late To Panic about Only 30 sleeps...0 -
DVF - I was wearing it in hospital..and there are alot of TP books to be re-read on the shelf:D Always seem myself as a bit 'oggish'!
1. Staples gone...I NEVER want staples agin!
2. Big drawers from OH are comfy and pastel..I have had to promise never to wear them when I'm recovered!!
3. Star trek t shirt I bought in sale for 2.50 fits me now:D I am boldly going:D
4. Slept better last night:) actually got comfy:)
5. Started on second bag lady hatas OH bought me lurid multi coloured wool:D DS has requested black bag lady hat...least he's game for a laugh!!
Off for a lie down..getting in a land rover hurts!
Big hugs xxx2013 NSD 100. CC2014CC- £31.50/£1352014 NSD 86 so far - May 20/212014 G/C spend £741.55 so far May £107.99/£91Debt Free - 30.05.13 Emergency tin - £1000June 23 - 9NSD0 -
LFS - hurrah to be unstapled, even if from the back of a Landy. Dress code for recovery is Whatever You Want!... Lurid multicoloured wool, eh? Atta girl - why knit anything boring when shock, surprise & awe are so much more fun? Why black? Purple more reliably eccentric old lady (say she with authority, and affectionate respect.)0

Just been catching up over last few days.
skint what are santas beards?
mhags... its only a tub of white candy floss, just thought it was a "sweet" idea labelled as santas beard, and only £1. Its quite a big tub so will fill a good portion of DS's stocking!CCP - I dislike Secret Santas as I always get the trickiest person to buy for!
ditto! Thankfully this year our office team have decided to donate the secret santa money to phillippines disaster fund instead.lovefullshelves wrote: »2. Big drawers from OH are comfy and pastel..I have had to promise never to wear them when I'm recovered!!
