Quick pleasures as I've got to have an early night to go to London in the morning. :-)

    1) Not a bad sleep.

    2) Sons both had a good day at school.

    3) Got house tidy, bathroom cleaned, beds changed etc.

    4) Last night's HM pizza for lunch with some mushrooms.

    5) Went swimming with sons and my brother.

    6) Enjoyed watching I'm a Celebrity!

    7) Bed now with a hwb and the News Quiz. Up early to be on the train at 8 (station a fair drive away) then Science Museum, platform 9.75 then Covent Garden.

    Evening

McCulloch - Lovely video, made me a bit emotional
Ampersand - Ouch, hope your eye is healing
    Frith - Enjoy London tomorrow

    Pleasures for today,
    1. Call from DB3 this morning, once over the is everything ok as doesn't normally phone that early had a nice chat and caught up on his news.
    2. Yummy HM Squash and Chilli Soup for lunch and fed friend. She did say I had to stop feeding her until she ate the soup and then asked if she could change her mind, please can I keep feeding her :D
    3. Its Friday :j, no more work and new dodgy email system to deal with until Monday.
    4. Met DD after work in local pizza restaurant, had yummy dough balls and pizza plus price is very reasonable.
    5. Helped out at the Rainbow and Brownie Disco, still have the ability to hear, just. All the girls seemed to enjoy themselves if the noise levels were anything to go by. Very proud of the way DD works with the children who are not so confident. Lots of praise from other people about her which is nice to hear.

Hugs to all who need them

    :wave:Flamingo Welcome.
McCulloch, loved the mascot vid. Hope your extended family are OK.
DD, tweet for the day is brilliant. Both Barn Owls and Tawny Owls are in December so maybe they'll help me identify my noisy mob.:D
CCP, fingers crossed that your little sister's problem is sorted properly now and that it isn't too serious.

    Five pleasures for Friday:

    1. Mackerel sandwiches with organic cucumber for lunch.

    2. Spent much of the afternoon/early evening in pointless (not) driving in massive traffic jams - it was dire in our bit of the world today - so I was tremendously glad I was in the warm, with the radio to listen to and that DS2 turned up with a Kitcat for me. :D

    3. Got the X**S present booktokens I needed for young children in the family and a couple more tiny things. List is still being ticked off slowly (in my head right now because the definitive paper list has vanished  It had better reappear before I reach the 'can't remember any more things on it' stage. :)

    4. Tudor Farm was good. I particularly liked the description of the way the dairy was kept at a constant cool temperature - really simple and something that could be replicated when I need cool temperature food storage space without electricity... living off-grid.. one day... Can but dream. :D (Meter reader came round this morning so off-grid is a bit on my mind.)

    5. Beautiful glowing autumn skies again late afternoon.

    Sweet dreams

    Welcome to the newbies :)

    1. Up at 7 for 8.20am appt, it was freezing (heating doesn't come on til 7.30) but smelled lovely and crisp and clean
    2. Saw my GP who informs me anaemia has got to an iffy level so is getting me an appt at the local hospital for investigation within the two weeks. Not much of a pleasure but once more am thankful for the NHS, and my super GP.
    3. Postie brought me some vouchers for doing surveys, very useful for presents
    4. Breakfast porridge, lunchtime soup and bread, and cottage pie dinner, all home made
    5. Picked up a decent book to read, 'A Street Cat called Bob', a lovely heartwarming true story

    Sweet dreams :)

Just a good morning to all and here's Garrison Keiller:
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b019cbck -

Head 43.50 mins in for 'It's been a quiet week in Lake Wobegon', so good, true, sustaining.

    Hearing Camila Batmangeilidjh is another:
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/on-air
which lead me to old Grauniad pieces from which this
    http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/aug/30/poverty-high-cognitive-toll-children
gives this - Chronic poverty causes health difficulties, educational failure, mental health challenges, and impoverished aspirations. Finances for appropriate provision are not available, and overexposure to stress has negative consequences on physical and emotional development. Amid the plethora of consequences, a little-known theory as to causation is being neglected. It concerns a kind of cognitive depletion, a sort of "cognitive tax" on the poor. Researchers suggest that people who find themselves poor spend an enormous amount of mental energy managing the state of poverty. The constant preoccupation with the difficulty generated as a result of not having appropriate resources narrows down thinking, focusing attention on the concern at hand. This intense and concentrated use of energy reduces a person's "mental bandwidth", preventing them from managing effectively other areas of their lives, because worry is consuming them.
    [My underlining]
I see a lot of this: people who find themselves poor spend an enormous amount of mental energy managing the state of poverty.
Besides, she is a very funny lady.

Weird wake-ups, thinking 'Oh, must check time for Dr today - Tuesday' while hearing more Oz Amok from the Gabba, 1st Test. Then thinking, 'That's wrong, it's over'. Then thinking, 'Hold on, haven't been to The Alma yet, so it can't even be Sunday, let alone Tuesday.' Then realising it's Saturday, bliss! Feels like 3 extra days before Spits prep. Very weird not-me wake-ups indeed.

Another Tweet for the Day[and Martin HG]fan here.

sparrer - all the Take Cares in the world. Keep your heating on. I did the other day and felt better for it. Sometimes, sod the £s.

Lovely day in London to Frith and sons of.

    Kittikins - are you alright?

Everybody, please stay warm and well and ease up on Lists. Very few MUSTS actually matter.

mcculloch - that Latvia toll is worsening. Hope family members are untouched.

skint - earache is NEVER a small thing, esp if you're out in cold.

That's enough bossing for now. Raffles has decreed yellow thingON this w/e.

    Saturday bedtime:

Slept until 9am....I was shocked at the time when I woke up.

Chat with mum on phone. I can't be with her just now but I can call her everyday and as usual I am grateful for unlimited international calls.

Dodging the heavy rainshowers. Have given the garden and especially the veg patch a much needed drink.rain was forecast since Wednesday but never came.....however it did today.

Free coffee with loyalty card this morning. Mooch through papers

Went shopping this afternoon....specifically for final ( ish) things for kids Christmas . The pleasure was getting out of the mall and back into the fresh air! Got what we were after...a few things which were on sale.

    Saturday snooze.
