Evening all. Pitch black before it should be. I am less and less tolerant of this long void to yellow thing. Thank Goodness for Raffles' [STRIKE]arrival[/STRIKE]Boppery takeover of those particular controls. Kindly keep him in all the Marmite to which he desires to become accustomed bop. You boys are already ganging up together. Allowing Lady Bop a Scrabble win here and there is an excellent ploy.

    1. Long haul Auction hier. Finished well after 21h! The Chinese were in force, as foretold. Their frequent seeking of further instruction via Modern Technology was responsible for some very slow and confusing bidding. I annotate catalogues for later ref. and realised I had so many categories - o=online, c=commission, t=telephone, r=room, l-left bid, u=unsold, or=online in room. There were sleepers: C18 bronze censer, est,250, took 2.6k[formerly a little old lady's dog's bowl which she brought in, as 'too heavy'], a little pale jade duck, est.<100, went to 2.2k,, as did a little unregarded bowl, also a pr of ditto vases to 4.3k. Quite a few and some fierce International bidding. A little Meissen clock, est 100-150, started straight in at 1200. But I enjoyed it, as always, and took all 3 of my prospects. Realised early on that the part PhD and samples Lots would fly - they did, over 1k.

    2. Have not felt unhappy today about my Lots - French erotica, no'd edn[which had not been picked up or understood in rear colophon.] C18th carved and mounted Chinese well bucket and best of all, an extra lot which had excited me during viewing. Confirmed gut feeling with research Mon night. Fingers crossed hier and the gods were smiling...suspect no-one had connected a monograph to a surname to a certain personnage/lifestyle icon, 1942. Probably thought surname meant a country. They are fabulous and I love them: 4 framed theatrical paintings with hand-written verse/satire/biting observation descending. I need to research more to i.d. some faces. I don't care how long I have them. They will go to a particular sector.

    3. Oh lawks, just let me get rid of blasted Dr Who on r4x...seems to be no avoiding wherever I turn, but at least I CAN do so and that is definitely a pleasure.

    4. Ease of library book renewal online.

    5. I have spent v. little time properly re-doing/sorting for Spits late this arvo, Oh well, on verra, but I already have nightie on and fresh hwb. I am this pathetic atm. It already feels like big clocks bye-byes time. Do I care? Not much. Had to scrape windscreen ice last night leaving Tattersall's, but did admire magnificent moon and stars.

lfs - are you about? OK?
sparrer - I have no interest in reading THAT book either, but look forward to...
mhags and dd discussing Salvation Creek. Have you started, dd? Might not be your cuppa, but you and mhags could always have a day out in Pittwater...when you visit:D
chicken- the lovely little terrier went for 500, the Harry Hall grey[839] flew>3.6k and Wright's Book of Poultry did 550, so just over est.
    Continuing good news re:Charlotte, Frith.
Isis, how fares your slave today?
bop - also infuriated by 10p rises on such things, completely illegal, in no choice saloon during Friday visit and can do nowt about. Remember Hull was Larkin too, who can be forgiven for just about everything[and there was plenty, a bit like Stanley Spencer in that respect] for the last verse of High Windows[mse police won't like preceding verses]:

Rather than words comes the thought of high windows:
    The sun-comprehending glass,*
And beyond it, the deep blue air, that shows
Nothing, and is nowhere, and is endless.

*wonderful, wonderful line and one I live every time I stop in winter-time car

I'll be deliberately avoiding Shula/Darrel before long too - lumbering inept unreal storyline, snailing along. Anyone who's had any dealings with the Darrels of this world wants to fusille the smug Hebden-Lloyds, get D building &'s shed....

Sweetness and lightly go I...bonne nuit.
Oh, 6. Glad I was not settling bill for lady ahead of me: over £15k in cash and she's 78, was straight off to Belgium for more buying today.

ampersand - more great auction tales. :) I particularly like the £2.6k dog bowl - I hope the dog appreciated it!

BoP - glad both Mrs BoP and Raffles made it back safely in time to beat you at scrabble. ;)

Frith - very glad to hear Charlotte is feeling better.

    1) A cheery and kindly 'get well soon' from the lady on the switchboard when I phoned in sick to work this morning.

    2) By mid-morning I felt human enough to finish off my job application, which I had to do as the deadline is tomorrow.

    3) NSD and NPD.

    4) No need to go outside, which was greatly appreciated when the hail started hammering against the windows.

    5) Decided to go with the 'little of what you fancy' theme for dinner tonight, and what I fancy is a prawn sandwich. The prawns are currently defrosting, safe in the kitchen as Isis luckily doesn't share Moggett's love for the things!

PS - if anyone sees Isis' toy mouse, I would be grateful if you could let me know - I can't imagine how it could get lost in my small flat, but it somehow has done!
Back after a very long break!

    It's obvious.
    'RA-FFLES?!?!'

re:censer/dog's bowl. W remarked 'too much of the ubiquitous, but she really did come through the door with it in a box of metal, or rather asked if we could bring it in. She truly had no idea.'
And at Lot 902: 'one of our Rowley friends declares this is Nigel Planer...and she's right!'
I'd mentioned thinking it online, then confirmed on viewing -

  • Sorry I didn’t post yesterday as another late work one, 11.30pm by the time I finished.:(
On the above note I had a couple of calls about jobs that I jumped at the chance of applying for.:j
We did a late visit to Mr T yesterday and while there were a couple of yellow labels it was an expensive pastime, so used up any club card money we had.

    For today
Was very engrossed in the kindle on the delay both way commute.:)
Came back to make a yellow dinner.
    DH has tidied a bit.
A couple of washing loads done
About to make a batch of millies cookies, I will follow the recipe after the previous disaster.
Seriously looking forward to a day off tomorrow.
    About to continue job hunting.

    Evening

    Pleasures for today,
    1. Porridge with last of the spiced pear for breakfast and yummy HM squash with chilli soup for lunch. All had HM lunches again today, seem to be getting back into the swing of making sure everyone takes a packed lunch.
    2. Work being over for the day, it was a tough one today with a new email system being implemented and while you know people will not like change and moan doesn't mean they have to forget their manners. I was very grown up and bit my tongue and walked away but one member of staff is a rude madam.
    3. Went for a walk at lunch time to get some fresh air and fresh prospective on the day
    4. Hair cut and coloured after work, badger streak is gone and hair now a nice rich dark brown. Was a bit light for my tastes last time so am happy to have it darker.
    5. Home to Beef Casserole from the slow cooker and DD had put the potatoes and veg in the oven so just had to serve up when came through the door

Hugs to all who need them

    Evening all.

    Five pleasures for Wednesday:

    1. Sunshine and, despite the cold, managed to get through quite a lot of the day without having any heating on.

    2. Catching up on Ep 1 of 'Last Tango in Halifax' while having tea and jammy toast.:D

    3. Definite orange-rust glow in the late afternoon light. Very autumnal and beautiful.

    4. Trying to work out how we are going to use up the veggie box this week.

    5. Celebrating with two other friends who feel the same, how mundane our lives seem to have become. :rotfl: It was good to have a laugh at ourselves.

    Sweet dreams

    Quick pleasures today:

    1) Not a bad sleep.

    2) Cup of tea and mince pie at caf! Neros.

    3) Haircut at local college. £4 today and they've done a good job.

    4) Dad Frith's birthday so popped there for lunch.

    5) Sons happy today.

    6) Just a tweet from Tom Watson (MP? Or former MP?) He mentioned a night club in Hull (forthcoming city of culture) and my cousin works there! ETA then got "talking" to him about his high school which is where smaller son is probably going next year!
