maddeningly, I like the sound of the house elf at your place. Want one.
[STRIKE]Five[/STRIKE], six pleasures for Monday:
1. Toasted teacake for breakfast.
2. Much needed trip to the dump. It wasn't a pleasure, but it is now that it's done.:)
3. Talked on the phone to my best and oldest friend who was showing some not good upper-GI signs that have had to be investigated. Hospital investigations are happening - still inconclusive - and he sounds so much more relaxed even though he's doing the wait for biopsy results. It was a lovely phone call.
4. Quick trip to W8rz via free coffee.
5. Little bit more X**s shopping done. Getting there in babysteps.
6. Listening to Shadowlands last night - lovely. Thanks, Ampersand.
Sweet dreams

Skint: sounds like a lovely weekend
DigforV sounds like a lovely shopping trip.
Ampersand: I certainly am applying.
For Sunday
1. A very needed NSD / NPD
2. Bacon brie and cranberry sandwich for lunch.
3. Serious tidying and clearing out both DH and I setting about the task, we re-loaded the new van with some of the old van things, while we stared out of the window at some serious gunner planes flying over. 9 empty crates later, that was enough, we came back inside, and I started back on my clothes, another 3 crates totally cleared, it feels really good, they are all very old jumpers that will go to animal bedding, then I started making what I wanted to keep into outfits so I actually know what is there. Still got 2 more crates to go I am a bit embarrassed to say yup I am / was a bit of a clothes hoarder but it feels great to have the space and now know what I have and haven’t got.
4. DH listed a few of his bits and pieces on the auction site.
5. Food planned chicken curry and we had leftover pizza as well so a nice food day.
6. A nice feeling that we have done some bits and pieces, and achieved
For Today
1 Work wasn’t to dire.
2. Got back and continued to clear out trying to do a bit each day this week.
3. 2 loads of washing done.
4. Basic home made omelette thing with everything in for dinner.
5. Applied for 2 more jobs tonight.0 -
Evening all!
Not much to report today, but thought I'd better check in!
VJsmum - There are so many lovely places to eat in Leicester. Living in Rutland, we're spoilt for choice here too. Sadly our salaries don't allow us to try every pub so we'll be wading through the list for years to come!
BoP - Raffles sounds like a fab cat, exactly like Ozzy who I rescued 12 years ago (and who my mum still called "Kitten").
My (tenuous) 5 for today:
1) Some Christmas presents which I ordered with various discount codes and via TopCashBack have arrived today! I'm feeling quite organised.
2) I've just found the No Buying Unnecessary Toiletries thread. I NEED this thread.
3) The ironing fairy cracked under the pressure of seeing the mountain. DH has done a sterling job.
4) Met a lovely person via Twitter who has given me some wonderful ideas for teaching my current topic in school.
5) Bought a sneaky Dairy Milk bar just because....Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -
Evening
Pleasures for the last couple of days,
1. Meal plan and food shopping done for the week, it was slightly over bu
dget though this week.
2. Bit of a lie in on both Saturday and Sunday
3. Took DD to the Ideal Home Show and we got a few freebies, some of which have passed onto friend as I couldn't use. She was happy to take off my hands.
4. New great nephew safely delivered into the world yesterday, he looks a cutie
5. Even though have the christmas shopping done bought a japanese puzzle box for OH and one for my dad as think both will love them. I bought two of the cheaper ones but some of them are amazing and so cleverly made

Pleasures for today
1. As out yesterday didn't get any of the usual cooking jobs done so this morning before work I made 4 pots of Tomato, Red Wine and Chilli Sauce and 3 portions of spiced pear. Also chopped up a squash - it didn't get roasted this morning as was so tough to cut up I didn't have time.
2. Pulled a HM ready meal of pork casserole and mashed potato out of the freezer for my lunch, yummy
3. Bought friend that has been letting me use her Debenhams discount a piece of cake today as a thank you
4. Easy dinner of sausage and pasta soup for dinner tonight with some left for my lunch tomorrow. Plus kept some sausages back for OH lunch tomorrow. Amazing how far can make a pack of sausage stretch.
5. Enjoying the walk home in the fresh air tonight, it was so hot in the office today was nice to get some cool air on my face. Just wish it wasn't quite so dark
Hugs to all who need them0 -
Sore throat here. :-(
Pleasures for today!
1) Not a bad sleep!
2) Staff at school pretending they didn't notice it taking me half an hour to get smaller son inside. The reason? Someone noticed him trying to get the sticky up bit of hair on the crown of his head to lie flat and made a comment. :-/
3) House all tidy. Lots of washing done and floors cleaned.
4) Went to second father's house today to help him put something on Ebay. Let me know if you want an old post box he saved when the post office he worked in shut down 40 years ago.
5) Good news! A local educational charity have given me some money for bigger son's bus pass. He goes to the school he is supposed to go to (i.e we live in the catchment area) but as it is over 6 miles away I have to pay £600 p.a.
6) Both sons did some homework.
7) Cat OK and has been lying on a hot water bottle this evening.
8) Enjoyed watching The Choir whilst sitting in front of the stove.
9) Bed in a minute to listen to ISIHAC.0 -
CCP - get rest, fluids, painkillers & then ginger & vitamin C. If none of those help, singly or in combination, add brandy? Glad Isis has taken to the pole! Congratulations on coming home early to a big purr & hurrah for the badge (doesn't it feel great?!!)
BoP - there's another player for the Scrabble board... Gorgeous! Good to hear he's bossing you around - how'd the marmite go?! Paws like spades - aww!
ampersand - didn't know it was *possible* to reverbe fresh food - atta gal! You & Julian of N reassure me about Mondays. Yale lock fell out? (Did it fall or was it pushed? Any chance someone's been giving it hassle?)
VickyA - farmers market sausages... Sons have taken to slicing the meon then poutting the whole into the freezer - makes for a tasty 'cube'!
Chickenopolis - given the practicalities, can I really say sorry to hear OH en sulk? Hurrah for fresh eggs though! Strategic disappearance when SHTF is a management skill.
DD - I took a careful look & decided to point it out to a more skilled knitting pal. One of my lads makes delightful similar things in felt.
lisakay - all the best with DH in hospital (got the dresing gown sorted just in time!)
Broomstick - congratulations on 1000 & hurrah for owls. Wise even if noisy getting dinner. Yeay for Waitrose coffee!
maddeningly - welcome! You're amongst those who count sleep as a pleasure. A MIL who can get the toys sorted & the children fed & scrubbed & a pleasure to meet after a long day? (Does she do lessons?)
mhagster - lucky you to show the Englishman the best time - how many of us would *love* to roll our trews up & have a paddle?! School books - ouch, yes. Never cheap. (Import from nil VAT UK?)
Frith - there's no such thing as competitive teas, just how fast the little dears clean their plates. Crab apple jelly & cat recovering more important! Hurrah for bus pass funds & may those who *comment* go bald. In stripes.
mcculloch - always good to hear a familiar song live (when done well). Right with you on mercurial menfolk eating...
VJSmum - teenagers & rails not compatible, without heavy duty bribery &/or blackmail. Money not spent now on bedding & curtains can be spent in new year sales or on other more interesting things.
Purple kitten - we had a ball. And I noted which sweets he was most ~protective~ of - they'll end up in his stocking. Bacon brie & cranberry sounds delish!
OS Pleasures
Really good sleep. Woken by Tamworth with an allergy - a tidied bedroom kicks up dust apparently. Woken again by the alarm clock - beastly loud!
Kitchen looking tidy - my fellow conspirator did a splendid job clearing the table. He's getting moderately deft at sweetie mugs - only dropping one per mug (usually a green QS) which seems reasonable...
Met with colleague, headed into Messers W for a free brew to find machine not working. So we got bags for life to bemuse family with & though both of us decaffeinated, we were delighted & giggling. Happily, forced back to work before we could get too tired.
Son has a momentary lapse in vocabulary - "killer-gee" where he meant calligraphy...
Have eaten a mince pie Out Of Season. Oh the shame...
Big hugs to all who need them, big draughts of The Remedy for all afflicted & health, happiness & rapt contemplation to all fourpawed companions!0 -
Good morning all !
DfV- your posts are hilarious :rotfl:
ampersand - thank you x I would buy such a painting too. Sensible head goes out of the window . As a teenager I walk past a shop with a classic oil painting of thoroughbred . You know the type, not particularly well painted or old but it just stood out. It cost me well over a months wages .Still have it on DM's lounge wall.
VJsmum - thank you . It was a bit s*it or bust with OH .
Frith and CCP get well now xx
Have a good day all !:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -

There is sometimes in such pieces a palpable sense of tribute, loss, longing which surpasses the artist's execution and stands free of its commissioning, medium and era, even at the humble end of the spectrum.
It doesn't always happen that initial inner box-tick tingle improves, or is at least confirmed when seeing, handling, in the real, but 860 def. does so.

Hello. Was 36o an hour ago and is now a much more pleasant 20o.
Have had a day where I've not done terribly much...living very quietly!
Nice chat with sister in law and my mum
Watched the trees out on the street being trimmed back from the electricity and phone wires.
DD1 had a study day off and made fried egg on toast for a late lunch.
I made pasta with bacon, mushrooms, red onion and cream for dinner.
Son went out for the day with friends for a day at the beach!0 -
Yay, another John FInnemore / cabin pressure fan. :j
For the first time ever, I loved Mornington Crescent.
And the Jeffrey Archer thing had me :rotfl:I wanna be in the room where it happens0
